This is my first season using pgr. I did a split app for my first application because I was afraid of tip burn and just kept doing half rate apps every two weeks because it seemed to be working well. Glad to see someone with more experience validating my approach 😆. Thanks as always for the great content, Ron!
Also started doing this based on your recommendation. I’m not seeing the rebound effect either near the end of regulation, lawn is thicker, and I’m seeing a deeper shade of green in my 419. 👏
Just ordered Primo Maxx from the Golf Course Lawn store. This will be my first time using PGR on my 1yr old Tiff Tuff lawn. Can wait to see the results.
Long drought in the north alabama area that sprinklers are rare. My lawn has taken a hit but is by far the greenest and least dormant lawn in the area I have seen, to include the rare lawns with irrigation. I literally have applied no other products aside from the feature and bug killer I apply with the PGR. Most underrated lawn product by far.
Hi Robbie. All the turf raking and verticutting I’ve been doing recently has been with the lawn under regulation. It likely would have recovered a bit faster without PGR.
Hi Ron great videos, I have a plush green bluegrass, so of course I wanted to keep it that way, so when I heard other viewers mention using Iron might help keep it green, so I though that was a good idea. It was not still yellowed , but liquid iron never seem to work for me, But at least it did slow down my growth. Now waiting for it to turn back dark green. Thank for the videos! My opinion, I do not recommend this product on cool season grass! even at a slightly lower dose it keeps my beautiful KBG and Rye brown, yes it did slow the growth which would have been great with a dark green lawn. My lawn has never look this bad. Cool season grass grower with a beautiful lawn BEWARE! P.S that was about the T-nex P.G.R
Check out Aneuw pgr, different chemistry that isn't so harsh on the plant. I used it on my tall type fescue with iron in the tank mix and it slowed the growth and got darker green.
Put my first app of Primo Maxx PGR this morning. 0.2oz 1gal 1000sqft. Will report back in two weeks. (Bermuda, HOC 1”) UPDATE: 09/21/2022. First mowed since I applied PrimoMaxx. Holy crap! This thing is amazing. The grass hasn’t grown at all, I barely cut any grass of off the top, this is the fastes, easiest mowed ever. I am very excited
UPDATE:06/26/2023 last winter was a bit rough and some of my Bermuda died in the middle. So had been waiting for it to repair itself. It’s nicer and filled in, so today was my first application of PrimoMax. Mixed it with Iron, Seaweed & Humic Acid, and TurfPlex. Will report in a month for a follow up.
Came back to this video now that it's PGR season here in North TX. The split Primo app has done wonders for the lawn already. I appreciate the awesome tip!
Would love a video or tips around PGR and using fertilizers/herbicides. Are there any gotchas? Is fertilizing and applying PGR less effective? Just don't want to waste money throwing stuff down that would be negated by the PGR.

I’m going to follow your reduced rate and bi-weekly recommendation. Last season I experienced significant bronzing on my Tif-419. With temps in Tulsa this week predicted to be in the low 100’s, will that pose any risk? I’m very hesitant.
Hi Mark. Applying at half rate should be MUCH safer than full rate in higher temps. I've been applying all season long (with temps in the high 90s and low 100s) without bronzing issues.
So I over seeded in a couple areas that were thin back in early May. Wondering with the new grass still being very thin and small if I should wait until next year to use PGR or if it would be ok to use this year?
I wouldn't use PGR until you're regularly mowing the lawn. If it's filled in, then you're good to go. Check out this blog post for tips on how to get a good result with PGR: golfcourselawn.store/blogs/diy-lawn-care/how-plant-growth-regulation-can-make-your-lawn-thicker-and-greener
With my sprayer I seem to be able to spray my whole 10k square feet with the 4 gallon tank. Does that mean that I can put the half rate of PGR for 10k square feet in the 4 gallons and go spray? Or do I need to run it at the half rate and spray one gallon per 1k at the time?
@@RonHenry I don’t know? I’m using the ortho 4 gal wand backpack sprayer. The 99 dollar one from ace hardware. (Bought before I knew better) Even when I use the red tip, which is the “High flow fan tip”, if I’m walking at my normal pace I can spray the whole 10k in one full backpack. Ron, I’ve been using the TNEX PGR that you recommended last year. Have you switched to a better type of PGR? I’m applying less than half rate and seeing great results! It's up to you Matthew. If it were me, I'd apply the PGR but it depends on how worried you are about the lawn starting to grow quickly if it comes out of regulation. Hopefully you get rain soon, but if it were me, I'd be applying Primo.
I’ll look into the Primo but need to use up my TNEX first. I got a gallon of it when it was like $80 for a gallon I’m about to mow and go ahead and spray it I use my new 31-gallon tow behind North Star sprayer, pull with my ZRT mower.

Hey Ron, one question. I have used Primo Maxx for the first time in my lawn 0.2 for 1000 when the label says I can apply 0.6 but I have still seen tip burn. I have used 2 gallon of water will you say was that the variable that burned my tip?

Sorry for being ignorant - but I never understand why people want to slow down the growth of their lawns 🤷🏾♂️ Especially if you enjoy mowing and you already cutting twice a week - I don’t know - but I like mowing and I want my lawn to grow as much as possible - I have seen people with spare spots in the lawn and using a regulator product - why slow down the growth when you need those spots to fill in - if I were going out of town for 2 or 3 weeks and could not mow then (maybe)
You still need to mow when using growth regulator. I still mow every other day. The clippings that come off the lawn are substantially reduced. It allows me to maintain the lawn at lower cutting heights with less chance of discoloration from mowing. It’s not like you apply growth reg and don’t mow your lawn for a week. Doesn’t work that way.
@@RonHenry I understand that you still have to mow - sorry I just don’t get it - (reducing the clippings ok) - but cutting every day and using the product 🤷🏾♂️ - whatever works for you guys 👍🏿 - you have the amazing lawn so I will be quiet - but I knew that using the product doesn’t mean stop mowing
