I did an online test and got low, however based on your video, I'm a definite high. My hair does not hold styles for long no matter what products I use, once the humidity hits me, here comes the frizz. Thank you so much!
Hey Clyo! Yep that sounds like high porosity! Our hair looses definition & starts to matt just like that. Thank you so much for watching
I'm definitely a combination of both.
I thought I was low porosity based on the float test. I'm actually high porosity based on your video! Thank you! Awesome video! ;-)
Oh wow!! What a difference! I'm so glad I could help xoxo
Thanks, you helped tremendously!! ;-)
Mel Wal me too, crazy
Mel Wal me tooooo
Mel Wal me too... WOW... glad I saw this video
YES I have 3c fine delicate high porosity hair I'm so glad to find someone who knows what its like. If the air is even a bit damp in the winter my hair frizzes up :(
Hey!! Welcome xoxo Mine too! It doesn't take long for the weather to mess with our hair! lol
Right? And thanks for the warm welcome :)
I'm definitely high porosity, and I didn't figure that out until waaaay late in the game. That's why you are one of my favorite RUclipsrs. You know the struggle. :-)
Lol! Same here. I figured it out 2 years into my journey but thankfully I was already using heavier products like the shea moisture smoothie & stuff. ; Aww
6 months being natural and I have high porosity hair. Didn't know why my hair felt dry, and why I was experiencing product build up. Thanks so much for the information. 😉
Hey Letha!! I'm so happy I could help! I know that strand test can be confusing & not the most accurate. xoxo
This is right on time! I've been confused trying to determine if my hair is high or low. TFS😌
Yesss!!! 😄 I'm so glad it came on time & that I could help! From the characteristics I mentioned in the video which porosity do you think you have now? xoxo
Thank you for stating this so simply! I have watched SO many videos trying to determine where my hair’s porosity level and nothing made it clear. I was so confused. Thank you SO MUCH!!
I have combination of both, also have about 2-3 different textures🙋♀️, so difficult to manage sometimes. Thanks for sharing.
i think i have medium porosity... honestly I'm still very confused! But i'll do more tests but out of the two i think I'm closer to low porosity than high porosity
I’m in the same boat
Now I know why my hair behaves the way it does. Everything you said about high porosity is me. It was always frustrating to do some of the natural hairstyles I see from other ladies on youtube and not have mine looking miraculous for an entire week. I'm going to have to subscribe to your channel.
I'm so confused now. I thought I had low porosity hair yet I've got issues from high and low. 😣
Hey Felicia! Dang :( I'm sorry to hear that! I can only imagine how difficult that must be. You might have different porosity levels in different areas of your hair.
me too. I think we might be medium porosity....?
Same.
You have medium prosity hair then
Same.. I was told I have medium porosity
This is the best explanation I’ve seen. Thanks so much!
Thank you Makeba!! I'm so glad you found it helpful! ❤️
I have high porosity hair. Easily wet, lose moisture easily. Always tangles and does not keep styles for long unless done small.
OMGGGGGGGGG ! No wonder my hair acts crazy. I’ve been thinking I was doing something wrong this whole time 🤦🏾♀️. Thank you so much for this video, extremely helpful
I'm glad I found your channel. I used to think I had low porosity hair that wouldn't accept moisture. So when I started using low porosity techniques (eliminating heavy creams and oils, conditioning with heat) my hair never improved and sometimes got even drier. Finally I got fed up and decided to do the complete opposite: heavy cream, oil rinses, apple cider vinegar, anything to close the cuticles down and patch up the gaps. I was desperate, but I didn't think it would work. Boy was I wrong. I used techniques you and other hi po naturals recommended and OMG my hair got soooo soft! For the first time my hair was moisturized for 2-3 days without needing to be refreshed! Normally it's bone dry the same day I finish my wash and go. Twist outs would just look like frizz balls with random limp waves. Not anymore! My curl definition has been great, even in the cold winter weather!
Everything you said in this video about high porosity is me 100%. I don't know why I didn't see it earlier. I think it's because I read on some forum a year or so ago that most naturals have low porosity hair. Silly me, being new to trying to style my hair just believed it without considering anything else. I've been without a relaxer for almost 6 years, but I've never tried to style it myself until the last 5 months.
Anyway, sorry for the long comment lol. Your videos have helped me a ton.
Aww your comment made me so happy! I know how you feel. I used to do the same thing, following what everyone else does. Then when I learned about porosity I realized how big of a role it plays in hair care for me. Some things I would never try now because I know it just won't work for me. I'm so glad my videos can help you! It's definitely my goal to make hair care for high porosity hair easier because I know there isn't a lot of information out there. So we're on this journey together! lol
Thank you so much for this video! Your explanations are so clear and helpful for those like me who are learning how to take care of their hair. I now know I have low porosity hair. Thumbs up and sharing !
Aww thank you Arame! I'm so glad this video helped u out!! 💓💓 God bless!
You really deserve more followers. U explains thoroughly and you're one of the only high porosity hair youtubers
Aww thank you so much ZiZi! My channel just reached 20k subscribers today! I'm so excited about this milestone xoxo
I'm high porosity!!! Now I find what my hair need. Thanks so much
Yayyy! Im so glad I could help Beverely :) I actually have a playlist with videos specifically on high porosity hair care. Feel free to check it out xoxo

My hair is a combination of normal/medium porosity and low porosity. I'm mostly low porosity along the front of my hair. Great video as always!
Omg all 3?! GIRL lol ; Your hair looks amazing in your profile picture though, so i'm sure you know how to tend to all 3 levels. Thank you so much Elle!
***** oh, no! Lol! I have 2 porosities. I was just calling medium porosity an "aka" for normal porosity. I have that from the middle of my head to the nape. and then from just in front of the middle to my hairline, I have low porosity. Thank you for the compliment! I manage the majority of my hair pretty well but still trying to figure out how to moisturize my low porosity section without creating build up..which happens pretty easily and I hate it because it's in the front and can't hide the build up when it happens. Any suggestions?
First time I've actually understood the difference between them. This explains my hair exactly! Thank you for this.
Awww I'm so glad to hear this Ta'Coia! 😊💗 Thank you!
Thanks so much. I was always confused about my hair as it always absorbed everything! It even absorbed the relaxers but yet never looked straight. I've been natural for 4 years, yet struggling to find the right balance until now.
I've thought I had high porosity hair for sometime now, and your video just gave me confirmation. Thanks AK!!😜
Hayyyy! 😄 LOL so happy to hear my video helped!! xoxo
high porosity hair suck...I lightly spray water three times a day on my hair just to keep it moisturized 😣
Lol!! It can suck at times, most definitely, but nothing worth having will be easy
That sounds like LOW porosity hair.
just think of it like this : we have a beautiful tropical plant on our heads ❤❤ i love tropical plants heheheh
Thank you so much, very good explantation. I just recently started on my natural hair journey, and I am new to your channel, so I am looking forward to see your tips and recommendations on products for those high porosity hair types.
You are so welcome Natacha! 😊 Looking forward to seeing more of your comments on my videos. 💜💜💜
Thanks for a another great video. Your curls are poppin' too!
Awww thank you 💕💕
thank you . ive watched many porosity videos and this one definitely was clear and understanding.
I'm so glad you understood this video. Thank you! ❤️
You got a fire channel love it. As a young dude I used to just think using the sponge was the only thing I could do to my hair. But I’ve been on a curly hair journey and I’m learning so much about my hair and how dope it can be. Glad I came across your channel your answering a lot of questions I had that no one could answer and shout out to KingBril who got me started
Hey Drew, thank you so much for your kind words. I appreciate that! 💯 I hope you find my channel helpful as you're on your curly hair journey. Let me know if you need any help! ☺️
I’m glad u made it simple! Thank you!
Your video is very informative. Thank you. I'm high porosity and need to moisturize every day. I do the L.C.O. it really works.
Thank you so much! I was confused on whether my hair was low or high porosity. My hair is definitely high porosity.
You're welcome China! :) I'm glad it helped you out!! xoxo
I am high. Thank you for your information. I have been so confused about my hair. Now I understand how to treat it. Everything that you described my hair did. Seven years ago when I decided to go natural there was nothing on the market to use on my hair. I found a good barber and wore it very low. I am letting my hair grow now and thanks to you I'm giving my hair what it needs.
Awww thank you so much Carol. That means a lot to me to know my videos are helping! I will definitely be making more videos specifically for high porosity hair because I know there's not a lot of information on it here on YT xoxo
im definitely a combination of both medium and high porosity x this video helped me out so much
Omg you FINALLY HELPED ME DETERMINE MY POROSITY!!! 🥳🙌 it was honestly at first your hint about TANGLES. I have 2c 3a, damaged af hair and regardless of what products I use my curl pattern gets misshapen and the 3a coils that do appear get blended into one big clump 🤦♀️ #highporosityhair
Thank you I know for sure what my hair is more so now! I have silver grey hair and it gets a little wirey and dry trying hard to take care of it!!! I am on a journey to get it healthy and grow it out!!! Thank you so very much for doing such a good job explaining!!!!
I'm super confused when it comes to my hair porosity. I share a lot of characteristics from low and high porosity hair. For example, my hair gets soaked with water in no time and it dries in like and hour and then I put product in my hair. I don't necessarily need to re apply throughout the week, instead, the product seems to sit on top of my hair and because of that I have a lot of build up in my scalp. Humidity doesn't affect it but it's really hard to dentagle. And I could go on and on with the list. I don't know what to think anymore, lol.
I have been natural for 4 years and was using the wrong products (for low porosity). I was getting ready to relax my hair. thanks for explaining the difference in hair porosity I am high porosity, my hair needed moisture. thank you for your suggestion I started using them. glad I didn't relax it. my 3C/4B hair is beautiful and I'm loving it.
Awww your comment made my day! I'm so happy I could help! I'm sure your'e going to find the right products for your hair now that you know your porosity! I actually have a whole series I did of Top Products for High Porosity Hair. I'll leave that link below in case you'd like to check it out xoxo
ruclips.net/p/PLwLOoSMTF7HUZOfYNWkbafwD0SWtJLYpx
Thank you for the links. I'll continue using your recommendations. I'm just on my second week of discovering HP. I did my first protein treatment, followed by the deep conditioning treatment (of course using the products you recommended) this past weekend. I see progress already. I'm so glad I found your channel. Keep up the GREAT work!
I thought I had high porosity and you just confirmed it!!!! I do have a more low porosity section but most high porosity!
I'm low porosity and I always have to shampoo 🙄 that makes so much sense though with your last point. Thanks 💕💕💕
Thank you so much!
Definitely a combination of both!
This video really helped me because the strand i water test is exact. I now know I'm high porosity. Thanks 👏👏👏
OMG. You just dropped some serious knowledge on me. Thank you!
Glad to help! Thank you for watching Paulette.
Thank you-thank you-thank you! I'm living in Cambodia and every wash day experience the sight of my hair allllll over the floor.. it's frustrating! It was longer when I arrived one year ago than it is now. I'm high porosity in this humid heat... ugh! Now I know and can start to figure something out. Sadly, I can't get any products here... but I can start with this knowledge. Thank you!
Your hair looks the bomb!
Thank you so much Rickell!! 🔥💛💛
Omgggg you just read my hair like to the T! Very high porosity I never knew 🤷🏽♀️
Low porosity, very helpful thanks for sharing!!😍
Hey Shalanda! 😍 Thank you girl!
High porosity hair. This was very informative. Thank you
I have high porosity hair. Thanks for the information, I thought I was doing something wrong. 💝💖❤
You're so welcome!! Nope, lol. High porosity hair just requires a bit more work & maintenance! 💙
I'm a combo of both . Thanks for sharing very helpful
Thank you so much for sharing Theodora! ❤️
Excellent explanation!
Aww I'm glad I was able to be clear enough with all the information! 💛 💛
Hi, thank you for this simple yet thorough explanation of how to know you hair porosity. Thought I was low but actually HIGH. Ty💜🌹👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
That is awesome to hear! Thank you so much for the feedback Sarah! 💜
hair stays moisturized for days at a time yeah right I wish
Lol! Ikr
so good!! nice and comprehensive. thanks.
Awesome to hear Edla!! Thank you!
Thank you for this video! I definitely have high porosity hair
Thank for the info it's been helpful.
I am definitely high porosity. Thank you sister
I have hi-po with a small section in the top that is low-po + multiple curls patterns in different sections. I don't have prob retaining moisture my battle is keeping moisture from the air out! My twist outs always look like a stretched W&G cuz the curls remain! Great informative vids!!! Keep up the great wrk!
Wow so do you try to avoid products with humectants in them? Thank you so much for your feedback ❤️😘
High porosity, however, my hair has begun to retain moisture longer once I started using protein-free products and trimmed away some of my color damage.
Hey Norree girl! ; Really?? That's pretty interesting about retaining more moisture with protein free products! How often do you moisturize now?
High porosity hair. I think years of relaxers messed my hair up. Just starting my journey but I'm determined to turn my hair around. I love your videos. Thank you❤💛
Congrats on your new journey!! 💛I'm almost 5 yrs natural and still learning new things about my high porosity hair. I think my videos will definitely help you out! Thank you
Thank you for responding. Wow five yrs! Good for you. I wish I would have done it sooner. I look forward to more videos. Take care😃
Well how about that! I have always thought I had low porosity hair because it floats on top of the water in the water test! But yes humidity frizzes it very easily, it is drenched easily in the shower, it is dry after moisturizing like an HOUR later lol Thanks!
Hey Maya! Wow I'm so glad this helped you!! Here's my high porosity hair playlist. It might help you! xoxo
Playlist: ruclips.net/p/PLwLOoSMTF7HVtOHLA6D5CNfLjDNd9CbDN
Maya my hair is like yours my hair floats forever which means low porosity but it will not hold definition, frizzes up fast and dries quickly
I’ve never done a float test or even thought of looking into my hair porosity but I am on a hair journey & after watching this I’m so confused and I think im a mixture between both. Lol thank you for this but I hope I figure my hair out soon
Khadija, I love your hair and looks ;-) I have high porosity hair, but I noticed that anything containing protein does not suit my hair at all, would you recommend a DIY deep conditioning mask free from protein
thought I had low porosity hair bc when I swim my fro is still standing after I submerge it in the water😂! my hair fights water lol! thanks for confirming😊
Girl you are so lucky!! lol ; Yep definitely sounds like low po. ; Thank you for watching! 😊
Hello, I did the float test and thought I had low porosity hair. I kept noticing different textures, curl and thickness in certain areas of my hair. I decided to test again, and the hair went straight to the bottom of the cup. Your video explains porosity more accurately . By using characteristics, I am better able to determine what hair type I have by how it behaves. My hair is dry soon after conditioning and moisturizing, the hairs wrap around themselves, and rain and humidity cause my hair to swell. I have high porosity hair and have been treating it like low porosity since I recently began my new hair care regimen.
this is so helpful b/c I was using the same method I use on myself for my daughter and wondering why the products just sit on her hair. She has low porosity. I was starting to feel guilty for always having to shampoo her hair but now I don't. Thanks
I'm so glad this helped!!! I know some people with low porosity hair like to co-wash, but i would say most ppl with low porosity hair that i watch recommend shampooing to remove the buildup & help with product penetration.
If a person with low porosity hair goes outside and gets rained on then they have to walk around with damp hair longer or can't really do wash and goes without applying a little heat before they leave the house because their hair does not dry right away. I go in between both high and low depending upon the season honestly.
Good point!
I have a very short attention span but wanted to learn. This video was PERFECT! Thank you!
Yayyy!!! I'm really glad this helped & and wasn't too long. I'm with you on having a short attention span! I can't watch long videos myself so I try to keep my own videos short lol
I thought I was high porosity but my hair just floated at the top of the water for about 10 minutes. I didn't understand that floating at the top met low porosity. I guess that's why my hair doesn't freeze up in Texas or Florida's humidity and I also get product build up as you said. I now wash my hair every week.I just purchased a steamer and I am going to start using it.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Very informative! I have high porosity hair but I also experience the product build up on my hair a couple of days after I wash. My hair stays wet for a couple of days. I don't use heat on my hair NEVER but i keep my hair in a bun and i take it down 2-3days later and yep still wet in the bun. But thanks again for this... I have true high porosity hair.
Yes! I do too, and I believe that's because the creams I use on my hair are always super heavy. Plus, having fine strands I get build up fast. Hmm..about the drying time high porosity hair usually dries fast compared to low porosity. I know that with low porosity it can take days ; You're welcome!! You could have a combo of both porosity levels. Maybe certain sections are less porous, so they take longer to dry.
👏🏾👏🏾 I completely agree. The same thing happened to me on the CG method. My hair took forever to dry. Then once I started using atleast 1 silicone product in my regimen it takes less time.
I really liked your video!!!
So I have dreads, and when you spoke about high porosity, i was nodding my head like crazyyyy. even though some of my styles are kept up easily, because i have dreads, i find myself oiling my hair twice a day and STILL having dry hair. its annoying. thank you for confirming this for me!
Hey Kilah! I'm so glad this video could help you w. confirming your hair's porosity! ; I know what you mean, but hang in there girl! lol
Thank you for doing a video including the low porosity people like myself.. I have the thickest low porosity hair.. idk what works for me bc my hair just always feels like hair to me lol
Hi!! You're welcome! I'll try to do more vids including low porosity :) ; LOL! Well if your hair is healthy & you're retaining length I would say your regimen is working for you & thats all that matters lol
Yeah you are right, I just really want one of those wow moments you know lol.. thanks!!
Hola. I found u just un time. This IS the best explanation to decide if i am high or low. Just did the chip so un reaserching. Now that i know i am high, i Will reaserch for products. You ve got a new sub. Gracias chica😃
Thank you so much Dr! Welcome to the #afrodisiacfam 💖
Thanks for the clear explanation. From the description I must be high porosity.
Thanks for sharing this video. I now know the kind of hair i have. From watching this video I know my hair is high porosity but I really want to know kind of product to use so it can grow my healthy. I cut my hair very low because I was so frustrated with it.
Hey Stephen. I posted a video a while back on my hair regimen for 2018. The products I mentioned in that video are my favorites!! You might like them for your high porosity hair too. Here's the video link: ruclips.net/video/CMRuKTbwAUM/видео.html
I have high porosity hair and I’ve been on this Journey for three years and I’m strongly Convinced there’s a such thing as healthy high porosity hair, my hair sinks to the bottom of the water all the time and my hair gets tangled very easily. At the very start of my journey I got so into definition I kept finger Coiling My hair and soon had dread locks. One day I decided to de-dread my hair, lost so much of my hair but it was like a restart on my Journey. That was two years ago. Since then I’ve learned about deep conditioning. And I do that every week or two weeks. Shampoo twice a month with co-washes between. Been doing this for two years and I’m hair is healthy my twist outs will last me for days or even weeks, my hair holds moisture for days. My hair never loses curls now. Yet it’s still gets easily tangled and matted if not stretched and I don’t use heat I band my hair at night and sleep with satin cap so my hair doesn’t tangle it’s still rough but healthy. You can keep definition and and moisture for days on end. You just got to find a method and products that work for you. I truly believe my hair is still high porosity, I’ve just learned how combat the cons unless I have med porosity now *tho I doubt it*
this helped me without the float test. High porosity...I know what I need to do now.
Yayyy! 😃 Awesome! I'm glad I could help xoxo
This was awesome.. I totally didn't know what kind of hair I had and why my curls wouldn't stay or why my hair would look or feel dry in one day.. you did a great job!! I'm well informed!! :-)
High Porosity my hair loves water, protein treatments, Shea butter and oils. Hot oil treatment not needed. I can shampoo my hair every week or every other week. Prefers silk over Satin scarfs.
Okay I have been following a low porosity regimen, but all of these characteristics match my hair. Except for the fact my hair doesn't absorb moisture easy at all, oh and I get build up easy! So which do I side with! Will be sharing this on my channel soon!
this was extremely helpful thanks so much I was so confused with all the other videos you explain this to me like I was a seven-year-old haha and my Denzel Washington boys I found out simple and quick I am high porosity thank you so much 👍👊❤️
I have a question. I feel as though my hair is combo. My hair does react to the weather and is super dry. However, i do feel like products build up easily. I did the water porosity test. Some hair stayed afloat while others went to the middle of the glass. 🤷🏼♀️
Hey Sarah! Your hair could definitely be a combination of both. Hair isn't perfect so it's possible lol. I say just pay attention to the different areas of your hair. You might feel like one side/area reacts differently than the rest. I know for me the inner sections of my hair get drier before the rest. I assume those areas are just more porous than the rest of my hair.
Thx so much. I knew I had high porosity hair and this info confirms.
I would wonder why my hair doesn't stay moisturized for days like others.
Yayyy! I'm so glad my video could help you confirm your porosity! xoxo I know it's a relief to know lol
You're definitely not alone girl!
I think I was high porosity when I first started embracing my natural hair in Nov because I damaged it with highlights and it couldn't hold moisture. Then I had a friend tell me I was low according to the float test and how I can get protein overload easy since stylers with protein get trapped until my next wash and dry my hair. I'm pretty sure from your video, I'm low or in the middle a little.
Hey! It's also possible to have different porosity levels throughout your hair just like how we can have multiple hair textures throughout our hair. High porosity hair is generally very fragile, tangles a lot & dries very fast compared to low porosity. xoxo
thanks for this video! the whole time i though i had low I really believe its high or a mixture of both
You're so welcome!! I'm glad this video helped you out! xoxo
Very High. Excellent Video.
⛳️Bingo girl you made my life so easy and now I understand my hair is High Priosity. Thank you
That was the goal! Thank you so much for watching & I'm glad this video has helped you. xoxo
I thought I had high porosity at first, but after listening to you it sounds like I might have low porosity especially since it takes forever for my hair to get wet when I wash it. I actually have to prewar her my hair before washing it if that makes sense 😂😂😂 I'll wash it with a cowash before actually using regular shampoo. Dang now I know.
Your hair is gorgeous. How is it styled, w&g, twist out, etc?
Thank you so much! It was a 2nd day old twist out
Ms. First I shall tell about you. Your presentation, Shining Eye's, dazzling Teeth & a small ornament ( Koka ) all has attract me. Besides I'm 65.
My hair's are in full of scalp & are Low in Porosity.
Now I'm consulting as Hair.
I thoroughly reviewed the information provided by Green Beauty channel regarding porosity. My 4C fine fragile curly strands had all the characteristics of the high porosity...but when I did the water test my hair floats each time..I've tried it a couple of times. Sweating, humidity, of course water will shrink my hair in seconds and tangles.. I'm confused and don't know what my porosity is...just want it to grow some length can't seem to get it.
Low perosity hair takes forever to dry. It normally takes my hair 8-12 hours to naturally dry. For some girls it takes up to 24 hours or more!
Thanks finally I know my hair porosity after 4years
I think you'll find my channel really helpful for high porosity hair tips! I too have high porosity hair
Very informative🤗!
Thank you Jai!!! 💗
I got that low low low porosity! Once you get the technique down, it stays cute for days- unless yo like to touch your hair like me.
Lol!! Thank you so much for sharing! ^.^
Thank you high porosity hair I think never can keep a style long
I washed it and rinsed out the conditioner and just let it air-dry. It dried 80% in 57 minutes. It's gets wet really quickly. At the end of the day it's really dry but it also beads up when water touches it
wow! Im here for the hair... but your skin! godess! ❤❤
Very helpful, but I still do not know which one I have. I'm not sure of my hair type either.
Aww :/ which characteristics does your hair seem to have?
