Hi Ted, thanks for the reply. If it were behind the fork, I would not be so concerned, but it's at the front of the fork. Like I said I took the entire fork apart and the tube and everything seemed find. Most of what was inside seemed like ground sand. I moved to a different island where the roads are a bit "dirtier" and most of my ride is along the shore or some kind of beach..... About 7 miles of it.... 14 in total if you include out and back. So it could just be that like you said.
Exactly! As the producer/camera operator of this and the Nibali Bike Build video, it never occurred to me to wear a mask. And I have witnessed/filmed more steerer tubes being cut, and now seat masts too, than I can count. Can I expect a slow painful death? Lighten up commenters. CK
Hi there, such a wonderful mechanic! I'd like to know the brand/figure of the measure stand which you use to adjust Cav's bike(2:10 in the video, which you use to adjust Cav's bike to fit his need). That is just awesome and professinonal. Is it according to Cav's bikefitting data? That is just an amzing bike adjustment/measuring stand!.
Is it behind the fork where the downtube meets the headtube? If so, then it's probably a fine mixture of dirt/dust/rubber/grease that gets thrown up by your front wheel. I think everyone's bike has it if they log real miles.
I'm not familiar with the requirements of the sport of BMX, but no doubt the quality construction of your bikes directly translates into your ability to safely and effectively perform your tricks. The same is not the case for road cycling. You need only look to Quintana to see what riding an incredibly heavy bike for years will allow you to attain. And that's not even my point. I'm saying, don't ride a bike with a pro's custom paint scheme (what's under that paint is perfectly OK).
This answers the question as to whether or not I installed my fork and head tube correctly, but can anyone tell me why I keep getting a bunch of black fine debris accumulating at the base of my head tube right where it meets the fork? Initially I though I put on the crown bearing wrong, but I took it apart and all was well. It seemed to be dirt and sand, so I cleaned it up, but I'm noticing it again. Does anyone else have this experience? How do I solve it?
@nathan bailey- you don't have to be a pro to ride an s-works or any top end bikes. If one can afford it and appreciate the sport, the technology, the bike then that's great.
Let me add fuel to the fire by saying its actually nearly impossible to ride the same frame as some of the pros of certain teams. Certain brands (including the one ridden by our favorite doper) add extra layers of carbon and have totally different carbon layups in their pro's frames that you cannot buy in a store. Their frames are much much stiffer than ours. On the bright side, we can ride much lighter bikes than they can and we can have luxuries like disc brakes which the UCI has not approved.
You're saying that only the elite should ride them though; you aren't giving other people the chance to show their potential. I already have a road bike, allez actually, as with my limited funds at the time that was all I could afford (second hand) yet I'm happy with but am now looking to upgrade. You seem to think that you are above others and that you are an equal to the professional cyclists. Ironic? I think so.
This sort of comment is really getting to be quite old. Enough already. The pros have their special bikes, which only they should be riding. Stop asking for shit that's not intended for you.
The only people who can afford to buy this bike are either sponsored or past peak physical condition, i.e midlife crisis losers who's wife won't let them have a Porsche.
How is it elitist of me to suggest that professional cyclists should be the only ones (justifiably) riding their custom-made/painted bikes? Go out an and buy one - just know that you'll always be the a**hat riding a pro's bike with only one tenth (generous) of his ability.
This video says it all! As a mechanic this means everything to us. Thanx
Grazie mille!
The green on this bike is so nice!
Love the videos of how they build the pro-bikes ! Keep them coming ! :D

Now THAT bike is really specialized...

Wonder how much the replicas will be :)

That's a cool stand the mechanic was using.
Is Cav no longer sponsored by Pro? Noticed the Zipp bar and stem.
what's the name of the first song ? :D
"Iceland/Greenland" by Junkie XL and "Cutting Out the Bad (Instrumental)" by Copy Haho
Sephardic
mmm it does sounds like Iceland or Greenland :)
We want the sabe type of video with Jaroslav Kulhavi's Bike !
the big chainring is incorrectly
whats the second song?
the last one..
I so want this bike!!! Would be completely wasted on me but at least I'd look cool :-) I'd be happy with just the groupset to be fair :-)
Why cut the seatpost down?
Weight
I want that bike so badly D:

no power meter?
Doesn't matter. It wouldn't be able to withstand the power of Cav!
Cav´s power is infinite :)
Any going spare? ;)
bike framset is made in Taiwan, OK
That bike is sick. Mine is not too far from it though.
Can you make mine next? Thank you in advance.
i have 2 one di2 dura ace and 1 11speed dura ace mecanical
Perhaps OPQS aren't using them? You'd have seen PRO on Cav's bike whilst he was at Sky as PRO sponsor Sky.

Quisiera ser profesional o rico para acceder a una maquina como esta...
Just look at John's comment.
Alright cool bike... All I need now is to not be broke af.
Nice , can I have one ?
I am surprised he wasn't equipped with a Di2
It´s because of all the sponsoring and contracts and stuff.. OPQ rides Sram :)
Omg, can you guys fix up my bike :D

I call specialized bikes special-ed because it is like that if you take out the i and z
he should wear a mask when it comes to cutting the carbon fork and seatpost
hail - hail the hacksaw!!!!
as for wearing a mask - come on people lighten up!!!!!!
Bloody hell you take a chill; and thats an incredibly elitist view as well.
...like the majority of the planet :D
still made in China, great.
music completely ruins it
..or they have monney :))
Relax...do so yoga or something :D Is not good for your heath to be so mad...
I'm going to guess you don't normally speak english.
