Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has defended his government's actions in the region since the uprising against his rule, which erupted in 2011.
In an exclusive interview with the BBC's Middle East Editor Jeremy Bowen, Mr Assad denied that his forces had dropped barrel bombs indiscriminately on rebel-held areas, killing thousands of civilians, and dismissed as propaganda a statement by the UN that his government often blocks access to besieged areas for relief organisations.
The Syrian leader also denied that there was a direct dialogue with the US-led coalition fighting Islamic State but confirmed that "general messages" were sometimes passed via third parties.

1 you r not "innocent " if u have rocket launcher on your roof and u stay in the war zone even after the israelites beg u to get out over phone/sms/and flyers.
2 israeli IDF is doing above and beyond to reduce collateral damage under extremely difficult conditions to protect israeli citizens from ppl who trying to cause harm even to their own ppl for "media coverage" and PR purposes..
IDF collateral damage ratio is one of the lowest among all the armies of the world relative to the number of conflicts that IDF involved in.

GooD ShePherD The Stern gang Hagana and other terrorist organization in early Israeli history indicates otherwise. Colonist vs colonized, I am on the side of the colonized. If you want to be pro-Israeli, talk to people with similar view. Palestinians and Arabs have handled the Israeli occupation poorly, which is why the Jews will end up controlling the entire region. I don't really care either way, but it is important to be objective. Last year the Israeli targeted plenty of civilians in Gaza, but you pro-Zionist love to ignore Israeli crimes instead of being objective

"The SOHR attributed 83,500 civilian deaths to the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and its allies"
"vast majority of the abuses having been committed by the Syrian government"
The Assad regime has used chemical weapons (chlorine gas) against civilians and conducted torture and extrajudicial killings. Assad has also used "Indiscriminate and disproportionate aerial bombardment and shelling" which "led to mass civilian casualties and spread terror."
According to a 2011 UN report, Syrian armed and security forces may be responsible for:
unlawful killing, including of children (mostly boys), medical personnel and hospital patients ("In some particularly grave instances, entire families were executed in their homes")
torture, including of children (mostly boys, sometimes to death) and hospital patients, and including sexual and psychological torture
arbitrary arrest "on a massive scale"
widescale and systematic destruction and looting of property

Facts about life under Syrian President Mister Doctor Bashar Assad:
    - No Christians were persecuted under Dr Assad's regime.
    - Syria was the only secular regime in the Middle-East
    - Mr. Dr. Assad's cabinet consisted of both Sunni and Alewite members, no sect was persecuted.
    - While Syria was not Sweden in terms of democracy, it was much more democratic than other regimes in Middle-East. It was light years ahead of Stone-age sharia dictatorships like Saudi Arabia.

But my reasons for supporting Assad is because the FSA(Free Syrian Army) has connections to Al-Queda, Taliban, ISIS/ISIL, etc. And some of the FSA have even threatened to attack America, Europe, and other Western countries because of their affiliation to those groups. So as much as I don't agree with alot Assad's ideas on how he handled certain things since he took power in 2000, he's at this point a much safer bet right now because he's at least trying to fend off terror in Syria!

It is UK journalistic tradition at least since Jeremy Paxman. Makes the public feel that truth has been looked for rigorously. Often the questions to be asked are given beforehand, although I don't know if that happened in this case. It gives the interviewee the opportunity to shine much better than easy questions. Assad did very well. Also, this seems better than licking the man's boots or the highly emotional shouting that is the US style

Actually, Charlie Rose's interview with Assad is very measured and calm, a welcome exception to the rule. Apart from that though, one hardly knows how to compute the number of facepalms your comment deserves. The whole of US culture is so very much more ra-ra and hyperbolically emotional than UK culture. For mere example see O'Reilly, O'Hannity, the list would stretch around the girth of the hopefully not entirely failed experiment that is the average American (ie US citizen).

What is astonishing is his measured and calm way Assad argues his case and before his country called upon him to return to he lived in the UK where he had a practise as a doctor in Harley street in London.
