Not a jibber or trees or heavy park guy. More all-mountain cruising and carving with the occasional side hit/roller/freestyle if feeling frisky. Thanks!

      At US Men Size 11 and 185 lbs you would be better with the 160w but that is dependent on your height, make/model/size board you have now, make/model/year boot you have, and how you like it. I think the 155w might be better but that is a touch on the narrow size for you. Great job have been watching your reviews for years.
    Looking to upgrade my board for next season.
    Been riding the older Arbor Element rocker and Clovis for the last 5 years (~20day/yr) switch, no park, small jumps, carvy and playful.
    wondering if the Shadowban is not too similar to the Clovis or maybe another board suggestion?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад

      Thanks! If you have the old non-tapered Clovis then yeah the Shadowban would be a good replacement. Brother - thank you for the reviews. I have a yes basic uninc paired with Rome Cleavers. On the east cost. The thing has no chill, it’s so stiff. Is this due to my bindings? I’d like to focus on jibbing but not lose my control on ice. Should I change bindings or do I need a whole new setup?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Thanks for the good words. The Basic Uninc isn't an ideal Jib board and the Cleavers aren't ideal for jibbing either. You would be better off with something like the Dicey and Crux or Vice or even the Katana with its softer high back.

    Love the reviews, thank you! I’m currently on a 159 Snowtrooper with M Stratas, thinking about Shadowban 157 for a bit of park, side hits and S-M jumps. Occasional powder in the glades too. At 190LBS & 5’10” would the 157 SB, Strata M and 10 Boa Photons be good fit ? Conflicting info about the flex, some rate it soft/mellow while others rate it closer to medium. A lot softer than Algo?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Yes the 157 ore even the 161 would be a good fit and it would be somewhat of a lateral move from the Snowtrooper with the exception of the very different camber profile. Yeah the Algo is a little stiffer and more damp.

    • @allanrocha4647

      Yeah, the rate the shadowban as too soft but it's actually middle flex to a bit stiffer depending on the size, probably comparable to the Jones Mountain Twin (6 or so). At least I have seen two reviews plus went to the store and tested it with a pro there and it's not too soft at all.

    I’m stuck between the Algorithm 157 and the Rome national 158. I am 6’1 180 with size 11 boots. I’m a High end intermediate that’s a little on the aggressive side and want something that can charge hard, lay a carve, and boost side hits but still relatively forgiving and butter-able for 30% park laps. They seem really comparable, but how do they compare directly? Especially in terms of forgiveness, flex, speed, edge hold, and pop?

    Awesome review, thank you! Debating between the Shadowban and k2 passport, intermediate rider, focus on carving mainly (I like the aggressive camber feeling) but also love ollies, small jumps and butters, pow. Do not do much park apart from a box here and there. Current riding Rosignol Jibsaw 155 looking to upgrade and improve my riding. Height 175cm and 170lb (77Kg), boots Vans Aura pro 10 (feet 9.5 though), debating between 154 or 157cm. For bindings thinking of Burton Cartel or Union Strata, but open to other options. Which board and bindings would you recommend?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Thanks. Passport review coming but both are a little different. Both are not aggressive camber. Of the two the Passport has a little more camber happening. Both are more directional than the Jibsaw but the Passport is more directional with a little taper too. I would not do the 154 Shadowban based on your specs. 157 is a better call for size 10's and your weight is probably a little better for the 157 too. Same goes for the Passport. If you want more of a feel like your Jibsaw but with the ability to set further back in powder the Shadowban is the call. If you want more directional set back and tapered the passport is the call.

    • @allanrocha4647
      @allanrocha4647 Год назад +1

      @@thegoodridesnow Size 9 and 180-185 geared-up. I can get a 55W for 300 or a current season's 57 for a little over 400. Is the 55W to wide for my size 9 or I can go for it and save over 100usd?, planning to use it with flows nx2, as my current board and bindings(burton hth and cartels) will leave towards someone else.
      (I already brought the nx2s)
      as a side note, the hth was/is a nice board but, with too little dampness for my old knees and, especially, too little grip on hard and icy man made snow, as we're getting 90 to 95% of the time in my area. Because of that, I was actually considering a pyl uninc(for !grip! in hard snow)... but, after some extra consideration, that's more of the same type of board with my hth, only wider and probably stiffer. I also wanted a board to chill in the afternoon, which for me, the hth didn't want to do; when I just wanted to easy slow-ish speed relaxed cruising, the hth always threaten me with catching an edge.. so.. a slightly softer, more relaxed board is what I am after, hoping the shadowban is that board.

      Those are two great boards. The Ride's have a more stable feel between the feet and they bend in the tip/tail a little easier. The NS boards you have flex in the middle easier and have more pop in the tip/tail. All 4 are really fun rides and are very forgiving. They just have different personalities.

    I see this video and The Good Ride(great website) stresses boot size. Unfortunately I’m a size 12 but weighted for a 155W(Ride Shadowban).
    The waist width of my Wide 159 Gnu Hyper is 26.7cm., versus 258mm. of the 155W Shadowban. Certainly under-foot isn’t waist. Is that the reason? Perhaps I’m not too aggressive with the Hyper?
    Any thoughts on me managing a 155W with size 12 based on my happiness with my 159W hyper? Or are the foot bases that narrow on the Shadowban in your recollection?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Many thanks! Rode all three you are asking about and this is my take. The Shadowban is super far away. The Berzerker is more directional and has a very deep sidecut that always wants to be turning and prefers across the groomer to circle carves. The Shadowban is less directional and has a more balanced sidecut for all types of turns. The Manifest is not close to the Berzerker. It is more like a stiffer damper version of the Shadowban and even Algorhythm with less set back on board. The Berzerker is it's own unique board. Not many other boards turn like that one.

I am mostly riding with my wife who is now in her second year of snowboarding so having an aggressive set up is not ideal for riding along side her at a slower pace. I am looking to get a second board to match the bindings/boots for the days I will be going a little slower and more playful. Both are really great all mountain rides. Lynx has a little taper and a touch better float in pow. Also has a little faster base and softer flex. Somehow it's just as damp as the Shadowban. @thegoodridesnow  7 месяцев назад

      I think going to a 157 Shadowban would be a much better fit for your 9.5's. Your Mercury is softer and much more chattery/bucky in uneven snow than the Shadowban. Even more so than the Algo and even the YES Basic Uninc is a little stiffer/damper but the least of these three in the comparison. Your mercury does have more pop than the Algo and Shadow but the Merc has less directional float than all three and the Basic Uninc has better pop than the Mercury you have now. Your Merc does have a little faster base though.

    Looking to pick up a 2024 Shadowban thanks to your review which according to Ride is the same as the 2023 but with updated graphics. I'm torn between the 155W and the 160W, I'm wearing size 11US Burton Photons, 5ft 10 and 171lbs. I don't really do Park riding but more cruising around the groomers, carves, side hits, butters, some switch and some powder. The 160W I guess is more likely to fit my boot size but the 155W more suits my weight and perhaps a bit more forgiving flexwise. Currently riding a Nidecker Merc 159W with Nidecker Supermatics... Any thoughts ?

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Oh man...the one thing that bums me out about the Shadowban is the sizing in Wide. No idea why they spaced it out 5cm between the sizes. Neither size is ideal for your specs. I wish they had a 157w or 158w. The 160w will feel a little big and the 155w will feel a little small. I would say 160w might be a bit better but you could do either with reduced footprint Ions. If pow float is more important 160w and if Buttering/side hits is more important go 155w. If you want to get into detail about finding a board that better fits your specs, ability level, and riding style hit me up here shop.thegoodride.com/merchandise/gear-advice/

      @@thegoodridesnow Thanks James for the info, decisions decisions... Seeing as I'm already riding a 159W I'll probably go for the 160W with my fingers crossed. I also have the Nidecker Escape 159W which I picked up on sale thinking 'How different can it be from my Nidecker Merc?'. While I can ride the Escape, it is maybe a bit too stiff and generally feels like it is trying to kill me at the slightest mistake which isn't much fun. The Nidecker Merc is much more surfy and has been my first board for the last year since I started boarding.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      Yeah full camber with the Escape vs. camber between the bindings to a lot of rocker is a massive difference. You probably would have liked the Thruster better as it has lifted sides that makes it much more forgiving as well as more floaty. I think going Shadowban 160w should work for you then and give you what you wanted from the Mercury but with more directional float when set all the way back and a more damp ride in all conditions. The only thing is the Mercury will have a little more pop but I think overall you will like the Shadowban as a one board quiver replacement to the Merc.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад

      No problem. The Benchwarmer is a true twin with a centered stance and a longer effective edge. The Shadowban is a directional twin with a set back stance for better directional float in pow. You get the Benchwarmer if you don't set your board back in powder and want more of a mountain freestyle ride. You get the Shadowban if you want something that ride centered on groomers like a mountain freestyle board but then set it back and have it act a little bit like a freeride board.

    have this board 2024 model have some observations:
    nice and damp carving. the nose doesnt really chatter even though its rockered
    top sheet is a scratch machine even your binding ratchets will leave marks(paint underneath is white). the edges of the top sheet will lose the black color quite fast from the lift line
    stiffer than advertised but it does soften up
    slow base that does not hold wax well. my yes standard uninc(same base as regular standard) is a decent amount faster and holds wax over twice as long(same wax done myself same days riding)
    pretty good edge hold on east coast ice
    will get alot of compliements its quite the looker
    great all around board with a few flaws. with all that being said i would easily purchase this board again. very stable and forgiving.

    What I find interesting, having ridden both the ride boards and bought one - is that my experience is kinda similar but the interpretation is the total opposite of yours. To me, the shadowban is the more damp, relaxed ride whereas the algorythm is the more lively one that carves better and delivers more power. Both are very poppy, the algo naturally takes a bit more loading up, but then of course delivers more in return. But I absolutely found it more lively, less damp. Perhaps because it begs for slighly more power I liked both, could've bought either one. After riding pure camber boards for the last 20, I went with the shadowban. Against my style. As I figured - both are underpowered to what I'm used to, but the shadowban was more relaxed so it was worth it. I love the board and it's my quiver of one for 8/10 days - But I still go back to my stiffer full cambers when I want to feel in control.

      So is it not really camber ? More like the salomon huck knife quadratic camber ? I mean having some rocker in tip and tail is pretty much essential for it to be functional as an all.mountain board ...although some people seem to think it's basically a park board ... so confusing what it's supposed to be

    • @TeeFunkable
      @TeeFunkable Год назад +1

      @@stevros48 It is.. camber dominated. Little rocker in tail, slightly bigger in the nose. Dunno if that makes it an all mountain board as I've spent most of last two decades on 100% camber boards. I know this one doesn't annoy me as the ones with more rocker do. Didn't enjoy the huck knife for example, that one really felt lacking in the actual riding department even though it was a fun thing to play with.
      I don't know what it is supposed to be. I'd say if they were going for jack-of-all-trades all mountain board, they pretty much nailed it. But I'd say that it's definitely more towards the freestyle than freeride, even though it carves like a beast and tolerates speed really well. But in super steep terrain or pipe, I'd ditch the rockers and get something stiffer just to eek out a bit more power. Personally, I pretty much stopped hauling around other boards than the shadow on most days and only break out the super stiff full cambers when on a big mountain trying to break speed records.

      I think you could easily manage a 157. I think it depends on the board size you are comfortable with now.

    Buying my first snowboard in 10+ years, need some sizing advice for the shadowban. 5'9, 185lbs, 11.5 US boot, would 155w, 160w or 161 work better? Mostly for hitting blues/trees/side hits in icier conditions. Thanks for the review!!

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      So don't do the 161. Unfortunately you are in between sizes. The 155w will work but it's a little small for your weight and height. The 160w is good for your boot size but you won't be able to ride the board like I described in the vid when I was riding a 157 with size 9 boots, 185lbs and 5'10". So if you want the Shadowban the safe play would be to go 160w. Or hit me up here and I'll throw out a more accurate recommendation if I know more about you. thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/

    So….you’re…saying..I should’ve gotten the Yes for my Midwest icy slopes….AFTer I purchased the Shadowban..
    Suppose I should’ve been subscribed sooner. Sounds like the Shadowban runs narrow, too. Even in W?..

    Is this Shadowban as catchy as the Indoor Survival? Also is the SB more torsionally flexible? I found it was tough to twist the IS.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +1

      Yes the Shadowban is much more forgiving because it has less camber and more rocker but more stiff tortionally. I compared my 156 Indoor Survival to my 157 Shadowban. If you want real advice hit me up here. thegoodride.com/snowboard-binding-and-boot-advice/ there are many ahead of you but I get to every one.

    Like a lot of people I’m torn between sizes, it’s disappointing Ride doesn’t provide any Wide sizes between the 155W and 160W. I’m 6’2 size 12 175lbs, a 157/158W would be perfect!

    Wise move filling that “average” rider void. I wasted hours of research looking for the “best” board. Eventually I understood I myself wasn’t the best.
    Really target that average market. They are the ones who really need help.
    Hope you can find a way to get paid for your time/experience.

    When you mention the algorithm is more damp and less poppy, are you sure you’re not meaning to say the Shadowban is? From all other reviewers I see them say the opposite.

    • @thegoodridesnow
      @thegoodridesnow  Год назад +2

      So what I was trying to say and I thought I said in the review is the Algorhythm takes more work to make it pop but when you give it more effort it pops more than the Shadowban. The Shadowban is easier to get it to pop for average riders like me and doesn't take as much effort. The Algo I had was more damp though. I felt this from same day testing, same size boards, same boots, same bindings on the same exact runs.

      I was riding a nitro swindle 142cm, fun for a jib board. With the Shadowban I plan on riding most everything other than big booters and most jibs.
