- Restoration rusty old air compressor | Restore vintage air compressor
Our next project is to restore an old air compressor. The air compressor we bought at the second hand shop. It still works quite well, but its parts have been rusted a lot. We are not specialists in machinery restoration , so there are not enough tools for the job. But with all our strength we try to improve in the best way. I am happy to receive your feedback, advice, suggestions to improve yourself. I am very sorry that there are unwanted mistakes in the video .
Thank you for watching the video and for us to suggest

very nice job. but four things concern me, one the water that came out of the tank, in order for me to use that tank I would preform a hydraulic test in order to validate the structural integrity of the tank. Two I would be cautious of using the old pressure switch, it might work for a bit but would fail down the road, I would end up replacing it with a new one. Three I would never paint the air pipes with the fins coming off the compressor, due that what helps cols the hot air coming off the compressor. And Four I would replace the quick connect couplers with newer ones so I can us them with any newer air hose and tools.

I agree is this thing just be a big bomb
Anyone who puts hate in these videos I want you to think about how you would feel if you were the person getting the hate. You "adults" need to grow the hell up and stop sending so much hate and start commenting nice things. I guarentee that most of you who comment hate can't do anything in this video or any of the other restoration videos on this channel. I seriously hope that you people learn that nobody cares about all the hate and that you just need to treat others as you would treat yourself. Excellent work. Keep it up. I support you all the way on your restorations!😁
Nice job 👍
I admire the hard work but it seems you don't care about some details and I must agree with some comments about them. Still a good job: you saved an old air compressor, so many years still to live. Thanks for the video.
I rather call that a WASTE of TIME, him doing things he had done and us all watching it...................... lets use real names for real things otherwise we all end up as that poor compressor - artificiall
When he sprayed water into the crankcase I had to cry.😭
To use that compressor is like having a time bomb in the garage.. and the paint turned out ok btw 😉

@@dhcraft9472 the amount of pressure in a tank like that is quite impressive.. so In my garage that thing would not be "restored" might part it out until a better specimen had turned out with a blown engine or something like that.
@@just_a_norwegian That is how I'm fixing two compressors now. I bought them as new/delivered damage to motor parts but the tanks are undamaged. Silly thing is that the brass fittings which are broken are an uncommon size to find and the manufacture rep wants over £20/$26 for an 10mm x 3/8" compression to male threads which is £5 max part

@@GGigabiteM the rust was just surface rust if you open any new compressor tank nowadays imported from China they have as much rust inside their tank as this one had on its outside ! But the paint job was awful just a fews can of spray paint would have brought it to the next level ,spending so much time in taking it apart and ruining it at the end , also probably a new set off new cheap bearings would have made it quieter !

they have not been opened and checked: engine, valves, ball bearings and fittings.
most importantly, no air leaks have been checked from the tank and at the beginning of the video the water is rust-colored, it is not a good sign, probably the inside is worse than the outside.
advice on painting: do not paint the cylinder dissipation slats otherwise the heat will not be disposed and there will be a risk of breakage due to overheating.
It's clear he doesn't have a clue what he's doing.
do not paint the cylinder dissipation slats otherwise the heat will not be disposed and there will be a risk of breakage due to overheating.
That is inaccurate. Heat dissipation is the same painted or not. They are painted from the manufactures.
@@ShainAndrews the manufacturer's painting is specific to have a high heat exchange, the one used in the video is a normal discount paint shop. there are different types of paints, some tend to block the temperature (surfaces treated for thermal insulation) others resistant over 600 degrees (car brakes, turbo covers).
@@giampierodipietrantonio2847 You bumped your head if you think that budget compressor came from the factory with some special heat conductive paint and anything he applied is going to block that thermal exchange. Paints you mentioned have nothing to do with thermal conductivity.
The work you did is similar to what is done by those who go to your house. you pay a fortune, they do it in a hurry, and it is left with a bungling finish. What time have I lost watching this video

Great Video ❤️
Restoration Restore Tool thank you very much - Not now 🚀
Channel should be called " 5 year maintenance" and not restoration as it fell quite short of restoration. Not enough in depth work went into this project. I can appreciate the effort to make this a better working machine but it still falls short of a FULL RESTORATION. Much more attention to detail needed to actually call it a RESTORATION.
One of the shabbiest restoration videos I've seen
Thank you for watching the video
I've heard of rusty bottoms in compressors blowing out and leaving a hole in the shop ceiling.

This was literally the thing that drove me to the comments. Glad to see someone beat me to it.
lol, and yet almost 1.4 million views. Its a cruel and unusual world we live in.
Glad I am not the only one cringing at this video. Let this video serve as a reminder that some people just don't know what they are doing. Also the complete lack of tape and general awful painting.
OmegaGamingNetwork more like a repair than a restoration. He apparently had the tools to grind and sand the rust pits and parts clean. He masked a lot of clean up by throwing a thick layer of paint on it.
The failure to keep paint off threads and masking of labels etc made me cringe.

The condition of the compressor raises too many questions... Why the receiver is so rusty relative to other components. The piston supercharger is possible in oil, and the electric motor is also in oil? But like there is no. The cover on the electric motor is generally as new. Why do fittings and pressure gauges then look in good condition? The receiver in General how could there be rust? I have the feeling that with him first, especially chemistry washed off the paint, and then direct pour acid or salt solution on it straight rust STAINS. Note that when he removed the electric motor and the piston supercharger, the pads on which they are installed in the MOUNTING PLACES also have an even layer of rust. How is that possible? Was he in the water all the time? If it was in such an aggressive environment that it was covered in rust, why did nothing happen to the sticker on the side of the receiver? Around the sticker you can even see a flat strip, as if it was sealed with something. The paint on the piston supercharger is all in lumps, as after applying the paint remover. All threaded connections are unscrewed easily and naturally, and this is in this state.... By itself, the compressor may not be very new, but not exactly vintage. Don't take people for fools. (google translate)
Yes, paint thinner and salt mixture.

great job, for a home gamer with little knowledge and simple tools, this turned out great.
With so much water drained from the tank, one wonders about the condition of the tank from a safety standpoint. Is there weakness due to corrosion which might not be readily apparent? Good clean up, by the way. What was the coating which you used on the tank prior to painting? Was it a rust converter type of chemical?
I would say the same! A series of errors in this case!
its a ticking time bomb just waiting to explode......too much pressure and then dead people.........
Agreed. That tank should be hydrostatically tested before it is pressurized. BTW, that rust converter was probably Ospho or something similar.
@@therestoration2r878 ...before or after you kill someone???......
I agree, the condition of the inside of the tank is vital. Search RUclips for “exploding compressor”.
If you attach a warning about this to the video you might save lives. /Best regards M
Como dice Marcos Marques, podría haber sido mejor, pero considero que con la limitación de recursos fue bastante buena.
Felicitaciones!!
You should replace the power cord with an earthed one, this is currently a death trap.
@@therestoration2r878 Maybe it was not required in the old times when this device was made but now all device needs to be earthed except double insulated ones. If you check the video at 15:05 there is even a broken earth tab on the down-right corner of the terminal block. Just connect it to any holding screw of the electric box and you should be good. Also the power cord looks a little undersized, but that could be the video, just in case you should check it against the amp rating on the motor.
@@netpok not all countries use the earth wire or have anything earthed.
Oh. You great ....👍👍👍
Thank you for the entertainment But ,You didn't coat the inside of the compressor with ANY kind of enamel paint against the rust it would have helped its longevity.

lack of experience, so many things half way cleaned and poor paint job
Neat trick to clear all the water from that tank is pour enough denatured alcohol in those tanks to be able to roll the tank around to saturate all the walls with the plugs in all the holes then take the plugs back out and dump out as much as you can and the rest of the alcohol will evaporate the rest of the moisture left
