Summary of this video : 1) How seriously others take us is inversely proportional to how seriously we take ourselves 2) If we are not there to laugh at ourselves there's someone out there who would do that for us 3) We live in a time where leaders who are imperfect, have a good sense of humor, and the ones who not take themselves too seriously are much more valued as it makes them look much more approachable and the work environment becomes less stressful 4) There's something really genius about being childlike and finding 300 things a day to laugh at, let that ingenious silliness out cause life is too short
Such an important message delivered in an ingenious way! I shared this with my leadership team, as well as multiple units at our hospital during staff meetings. It was well-received and prompted some very meaningful discussions. You're such an entertaining speaker!
Wow! What a great talk! Thank you so much! I have worked with Americans for over 15 years and I have laughed all the time. Now I understand why I have good relationship with my American students and colleagues, because my local have been puzzled for years about that. :) Humor is such a soothing thing!
When i was a student at OU in Athens I had that student number with one too many 7770 and the lecturer cannot remember my name because i was too Asian to have a very cocasian sounding name , so she calls me the girl with kingky student number. Its even more kinky for the owner of student number with all 7s. I checked it out from the computer lab box shelves😳😁🤫 well as the saying goes, life is indeed like a box of chocolate. I just appreciate humor. Glad and happy to listen to Paul.
Wow! Very well said Sir! I liked your style of being humorous boss. And I am fortunate to admit that I am humorous boss, father & friend of my son. God bless you !
2016: We live in a world right now where interacting with people is becoming optional. 2021: We live in a world right now where interacting with people is becoming *illegal*
all hail the Chief Wit! Loved your talk Sir....a mighty honor to see n hear and listen to your most invaluable, ingenious message. real blessing.hope you continue to be the kind of leader that you've shown you have been.
Yes! Great talk. Leaders, now more than ever, have the ability to lead by example by bringing humanity, humor and vulnerability to team communications. With office life changing rapidly, it is more important to make the time matter in connection on Zoom and on phone as we are missing the opportunities for bonding and social time that reinforces office relationships that create trust. Adding simple ice breakers to Zoom meetings greatly impacts how creative that session will be vs. cut & dry.
great talk! loved listening to you and laughing with you! I use humour regularly with my clients too (healthcare) and definitely feel it helps in both the connection and the healing! thank-you!
Hey Paul, I just got done reading "The Levity Effect" upon your recommendation and just thinking about humor and levity in a different way has really impacted my entire team. I really enjoyed this talk man, great job! Oh and by the way you are right about one thing, you are definitely too short man! I look forward to seeing more talks man keep it up!
This video was a real breath of fresh air, Paul. .I have gained an insight into interplay between the Mozarts and the Salieris. I believe it could prove helpful in engaging with the challenges created by cronyism. What would be the best way for me to get in touch with you?
The most boring people are actually those who say things like “ I wish my workplace was more fun”. you can probably do a study and write a research paper saying that 9/10 people who write “ I like to have fun” in their profiles are actually the most boring people you never want to be around with
I have a question, about to take serious my self insted of bullying, if to take no serios my sefl and let somebody laught over me when we have to take care when som body is try to bother me? any sugestion or coment?
jorge espinosa great question. Humility must be accompanied by self confidence. Self confidence without humility is arrogance, but humility without self confidence is just self deprecation. It’s good to be able to laugh at yourself and to let others laugh at you as well, but only to the point that everyone is laughing. Once it feels hurtful or uncomfortable to you then it is no longer helpful. Sometimes it can be easier to start by laughing at things you do rather than who you are. ✌️❤️
Thanks Akasha- that’s one of my favorite lines in there & whenever I’ve used it I felt like people don’t love it as much as I do. 😂🤷♂️. Keep laughing! 😉
Remember the one Friends episode where Chandler had a fake laugh for his boss's bad jokes lol bazzinga! I'd say he's the love child of mr clean and where's Waldo lol *shots fired*
Good point, Richard! Everyone has a different sense of humor, but the most important thing is to use it! I think of it like exercise... It's good for us and people can do it in a variety of ways. Thanks for watching!

Quote: " - Life is too important to be taken seriously!" So contradicting that it sounds like wisdom. But never say that to a terrorist.

I married my husband because he was funny!
Life is far too important to be taken seriously. Hahahahahahahah
Lol so funny
I suppose on what you find what is funny. A sense of humor is not a common experience.
