I'm so glad you made this. I was homeless for a year in Australia, came from domestic violence and left at 18 because I couldn't handle it any more, I admit, i got lucky, someone gave me a chance and rented a place to me and I have since bettered my life, my plan was to travel around doing fruit picking if I couldn't get my self off the streets. It was a very hard year, the stigma on homeless people needs to stop. I have now gotten myself into university and i would love to take that to helping the homeless as I know very well the struggle of the streets. keep your head up guys.
Lesley Lima I do sympathise for those coming from a broken home, abuse etc nut not that much with the one drin king his bottle of water,Ike whatever his name is because he goes like "i had a job, didn't like it yap yap yap!"When i was younger, was a bit lazy at times, drinking too much, drugs and stuff and nearly found myself like he is but now i'm back on track, sober etc and am i happy to go to work everyday to be with people i don't really want to be,well sometimes no but i carry on,walk or die...Life's not suppose to be happiness all the time and even if that was,we would take it for granted and not enjoying the good times anymore,no?Hello from France :)
Lesley Lima I have been homeless in Australia, but it's not my home country, the one thing I found was that there was a lot of food help in Melbourne, but not in Perth. I think it's awesome that you are now at uni, and that you have found your own strength and made a way. You are a survivor, and I respect that. One day you will be able to speak into the lives of people who need your particular expertise and it will come full circle.
You are very welcome how amazing you have done be proud of yourself you doing so good its so hard for good people who find them selfs homeless I was homless years ago family problems but the people I met were amazing so kind and careing these good people would give you there shirt off there backs to help you all a lot of these people need is help understand kindness same sort love a lot of homless people are very unwell with disabilities disabled or mental health problems a lot been through sex abuse a lot ex army navy and so on this get me so angry they would given there lives to help other but when they need a helping hand back up nothing iv seen homless people beaten spat on abused treated like animals there only crime having no home or no family that care enough or loved enough not ever one in the world has a mummy and daddy that do everything for them some of these rich pricks the way they treat people its shocking all because they got no home are government's are shameful these people are put in power to sever and help there own people in there countries but are government's do is spend there money on bankers to get them aut of shit wars the rich supper rich they make more money and help them first in rich countries like American oz England Russia and so on they should help getting homless people off the streets with help treatment for the addicts help for people with mental health problems work programmes to build these good people back up more littel homes for all homless understand time kindness careing it could be so different but the greed of people they not happy having millions they want billions thats not enough then its trillions and not help any one like the bloody rothchild family one of the family members was heard saying we not got enough they will not be happy untill they have the world everything in it how sick are these people to say that and not to give any one nothing half of there wealth could end poverty hunger homless in the world but no they want more greed of people no one needs all that its a bloody sad greedy aut of touch world we live in not all rich are that way??? but most are nasty horrible people it could be so different in the world I dont no its just all so sad no humanity should be treated this way I think you do amazing you cheered me up I thank you for this you live in a nice country id love to help others in the world maybe one day if I ever find the cash to get to these countries
For a 17 year-old... I dunno WHICH you have most of: Heart, Compassion or incredible Talent as a Film Maker but I know ONE thing: You most certainly have ALL THREE! Keep telling the stories of those whom have no voice, Sweetheart 😘💖
I watched this and felt sad that Humanity judges others based on there circumstances. We are all Human Beings, not animals, and not all are criminals, every poor soul has love in there hearts too. A very well made Documentary you have made there.
although i'm only watching this now 5 years later but the issue of homelessness is still very real. And sadly even more so now. thank you gordon for taking the time to create this and bring awareness. There are some good charities like youth without shelter out there that are trying to help the homeless, I implore people to give either their time or money this holiday for these good causes.
Great job making this film guys. I think just as powerful as the homeless message is the message that the makers of the film are young people who give a damn, you are a credit to your generation.
I hope who ever the sick individual who threw water on a homeless girl sleeping on a cold pavement already, hope you get your just deserts in this life and until the end of time. Shame on any human being with so little compassion. Very well made documentary.
I am so happy to know that your generation does care about the homeless. Thanks for making this. You have given these individuals dignity and a voice. I hope those filmed are alive and thriving now.
Documentaries like this are so vital for bridging the gap of contextual understanding between the different "class" structures.Thank you Gordon for providing this platform for those who so rarely get portrayed correctly. Your documentary really shines a light on the far too often shadowed. There is so much truth here... I hope this message reaches those who need to hear it.
I will pray for all the homeless, addicts, traumatized, abused, lost people. Im studying clinical psychology in hopes to help people live a healthy normal life someday.
good luck its great to help people out, this guy by the building i work is homeless and he told me someone fucked him in the ass on a weekly basis because hes homeless
It is so sad to know that there are so many homeless people in Toronto . This young man did such a wonderful job by bringing awareness about homelessness in our city. There are several reasons for loosing roof over one's head.
Great documentary! When you see homeless people, really look at them and let them know we see them.A genuine smile goes a long way. Thank guys for this great piece!
Many years ago while on a hitch hiking trip I worked at a restaurant in Amsterdam. We were told to chase away homeless people when they turned up at the back door looking for leftovers. I did it the first few evenings but one day decided not to damage the leftovers and made up a bag with food for a man who slept nearby. I started to take food from the fridge. He dropped by every evening and I gave him a grilled chicken and bread and sometimes a bottle of beer. After about 7 or 8 weeks he stopped coming. I looked for him around town but never found out what happened to this old man
Beautiful piece of work Gordon. What an amazing capture in to the hearts and souls of the homeless. We're all human regardless of our status in life.Too many people forget this
I was one of these people, and i can say for certain, you can get out this situation, but most will never try, even fewer will succeed, and even fewer still will flourish, i think the number for somebody like me was less than 5%. I am not lucky, and nobody helped me get out the situation i was in i did it myself, and am 15 years sober, and about to start a job that pays 100K+ a year, if they say they cant, what they mean is they wont. I can say that because i was one of them.
An amazing short film, the beauty of the human spirit shines through. I hope this documentary will enlighten the public on a Global scale. We all should be each other's keeper!
This kid brought me to my knees . I suffer from mad dep from a serious seizure disorder. I know how you feel every single day terrence. You got this and your music literally brought me to my fn knees at 6 am . 💨💨💨💨
Excellent documentary, eye opening, and I enjoyed it. Your goal of the documentary is at 4:59 - to rid the stigma of homeless people and to understand their stories ... and lend a helping hand. This documentary tugged at all my heart strings and you'd have to be pretty cold not to feel for these people after hearing their stories. Now that I can reflect a bit, here is my view. It's 2019 and there's a new respite centre near my condo. There are needles on the ground near the school being built and I've seen more cops in the area and a lot more homelessness in my neighborhood. The respite centre has made for an increase in these needles as well as a lot more trash, bottles, and rags and people sleeping on the street. Unfortunately a lot of these people have a drug problem or mental illness - one of your interviewees says it himself and he's the most ground level we can get. Things are starting to happen in the community, making the home owners and rentals feel unsafe. To me, this is a systematic issue and the heavy lifting by our MPPs. I agree, we need to "lend a helping hand" but sadly it comes at the expense of something else, it seems...
Documentaries like this are so crucial in educating people and spreading the word on important topics. Impressive work Gordon!! People need to know the real stories behind people who are homeless. Thank you for telling them and giving them a platform to share.
Very powerful! Thank you Gordon Sun and Crew. You asked many of the same questions I would have asked. My goal in life is to open my own (shelter) home & help those who want to get fully independent & back into society, by being able to get jobs, the right education, health services, and of course their own homes! Keep up the great work of informing us. 🌻🐝🌞
Very touching and studio level editing. Thank you for opening up my views on these people, I've met most of these people downtown and ill be sure to help them out next time.
it is a struggle, adventure, and a journey of self discovery, and place. We all must keep moving toward or destination, hopefully choosing the right paths. A way out of the maze. God Bless Them All.
Thank you for taking the time to make this video for so many to be inspired and motivated to spread the love. Hopefully we can work together and making not only Toronto but the world a better place. Cheers to a better tomorrow! 🙏🔥
Thank you for this video, thank you for giving time to people who need it. I have been working with the homeless for a few years and they are my people. I love them deeply and I appreciate you guys doing this to help take the stigma off of them.
It is so important to have the help and support of your friends and family when you are going through a really difficult time such as being homeless. When I look at homeless people my heart just breaks. It just seems that no one really cares about them anymore.
I'm so honored to watch this video surely we all have one thing in common despite being our differences thanks for this i appreciate to really see what other life's is going through
we all have to help each other and ease the suffering of humanity. Hope You're all in good health and living the best life you can. Good movie Gordon, hope you helped them, god help us all.
Great documentary! Amazing way to grasp what they've been through and that homeless people aren't just all "addicts". There's reasons why all this is going on.. I find that homeless people have such great stories and when I can I stop and speak to them. I live in Toronto so this was a great documentary to watch. When you have time, go for lunch with a homeless person and get to know them because you might just learn something about yourself.
Very intelligent portrayal. Much work like this and more needs to be done .I visited toronto this summer and people sitting or lying in the streets are just walked around like pieces of trash . Very little if any people will actually stop to ask a person if they are simply ok.
Great documentary, especially for an amateur. I have always felt empathy for the homeless because so many people are there and not by choice. It is dysfunctional families that put them there. In my twenties when I had nothing, it was a loving family and the work ethic they gave me that helped me achieve my dreams in Canada. I only could not relate to those interviewed who mentioned they were homeless by choice because they wanted to travel, gave up material goods or did not like to work. Is this mental illness? Sincerely wish them well.
Outstanding documentary. You mention your team is by no means "professional". I hope you mean that you've not been paid yet, not that your talents are lacking in any way. I've always had a soft spot in my heart for individuals suffering homelessness. Stories like these are too common. It's a shame. There has to be a special place in hell for anyone who abuses a homeless person! They don't deserve it. Any one of us could be in their position on the turn of a dime. One lost job, savings spent & your life unravels like a loose thread on a sweater. 1st your car is repossessed. Then utilities are cut off. Then the house goes into foreclosure. Then where? Exactly. You're on the streets. There by the grace of God go I.
I never knew that they are so many young homeless people in Toronto. It's sad. If those people will only take advantage of the resources that might be available to them in Ontario. While there is life, there is hope. God bless! You guys are an amazing and talented group.
I've been homeless and unless you have some sort of plan.. one may never get off the streets it's really no way to trully live a life.. it's a great way to find yourself if only done temporarily. The key to helping the homeless is acceptance. Adam had some great advice..."Don't hurt yourself.. and if you don't hurt others even better" Words to live by. Thanks for this peek into life on the streets. (Is there a follow vid? Would be nice to know how they are all doing.)
Once upon a time, centuries ago, we didn't have streets, and homes were more basic. It was normal, it was how humans lived naturally. My point is that discriminating against people that don't live in a conventional home or in a conventional way is wrong. The fact that most homeless people have had rough pasts should make us want to help them, be sympathetic, and not judgmental. Homeless people are people too. We were never made to live in boxes. Literal or metaphorical boxes.
I’ve watched a few videos on the homeless crisis in the US recently and for many they are there due to other things other than drink or drugs. Many have been forced on the streets due to high living costs and not being able to afford the rent. Many are working, but living in tents, RV’s or cars. That just doesn’t seem right and govt’s need to do more for people like this. They’re not all drug addicts looking for something for nothing. I hope these people are given the hand up they desperately need. London, UK
SAID @6:10... I sympathize with both you and your family... I've been in your mother's situation... and well, I handled it much differently. But the way you were treated by your family was inexcusable. Break away and I think you could be very successful - you appear to be a very kind and thoughtful young person :-) There are many of us out here who are more than happy to help you move on and succeed so that you can become your own successful individual :-) (And while none of us ever become 'rich'... we should measure our success in how many friends we have, not in how much $ pours in.... ) Best of luck Said.... take care... ~Mindy
Well done! I've watched a lot of these kinds of videos and this is one of the best!!!I liked your finish? Well done. I will say that Under the Same Roof would have been a good title as well.
You can make a difference in helping these young people. Finding people who can understand their sitiation and give them a chance to work . I know they are willing to change their life. To trust them and believe on them.
Was homeless in Toronto for 3 years as a youth and it is rough but it teaches you humility. Not everyone chooses to be there, im a domestic violence survivor
Please people if you see a homeless person in the streets treat them with respect show them a little dignity they’re just a person like you and me they have a heart. I often said if I ever won a big lottery I would help the homeless out they deserve a second chance in life.
Hi...there...i can feel the Pain.....these people....feel....i am living in Big City in Asia.....but....it takes a lot of Self...Discipline......(Life is too Short)....So i stick to my Parents...(Mom)...Both divorce......But today i have to look back and feel a sense of GRATITUDE.......now.....
I have a message for everyone . I live in Toronto. The message is don't give up because when you give up the future is even worse for you . But if you don't give up you will be glad that you didn't. I gave up when I was younger now I am 27 and a failure . If I never gave up when I was younger I would be highly successful right now :) .
Amazing! Just came across your video because I'm working on a blog post for a "Children and Global Perspectives" class. It's definitely inspiring and has been an insightful 30 minutes just listening to the stories of these individuals you were able to interview and kind of "shadow" for the duration of your recordings. Out of curiosity - have you followed up on these individuals? I think it would be cool to see where they are now. Nonetheless, growing up in Toronto and seeing the common homeless person on the street with a sign that says, "God bless" or "anything helps" has always moved me to help them. At one point, I was commuting to go home for the holidays via TTC subway and didn't have any change -- I gave a man a Ferrero Rocher LOL! But in all seriousness, this documentary speaks volumes, and I hope you continue what you're doing, even at such a young age! I think we walk past people and have that stigma that, "Oh gosh, they might hurt me" or "How could they be on the streets?" We see people on the streets and as a human being, I'm almost positive that more than half of us will ask ourselves, "How can I help them? Should I help them?" I'm on Melanie's point - Whenever you can help someone - help them. We're all human and have feelings. Bottom line - we're all called to LOVE! Helping out, reaching out, and taking time to even chat to say, "how's your day" to someone on the streets -- may make the biggest impact in their day, if not life. Keep on keeping' on Gordon!
Gordon Sun you guys were right there with that Said kid... couldn't you see that seems like all you needed to do was to set him up with an appointment with a local homeless youth case worker to get him into a job and temporary housing. Seems like a responsible kid. How could you not have seen that he actually wants to get off the streets- just needed someone who cares to help.
9:29 I laughed and applauded this guy's no BS brutal honesty. I totally relate. The only difference between him and I, is that I gamed the system and worked life-threateningly hard for a year and then retired with a bankroll and some properties. But yeah, instead of doing some of the chores I'm supposed to do, I'm watching this. Viiiiibe!

Well done! I wish we knew what came of the young boy. He was fully aware of his situation and it seems this weighs on him heavily.
Great documentary guys, ive seen alot of homeless people in my days and just to remember we are all the same we all bleed red AMEN
These questions are so honest and deep.
Thank you guys for making this. It was very informative and real.
Would be nice to know how they are all doing.)
love your messages to the world. I got it, love to all of you. Hope you all make it.
Literal or metaphorical boxes.
truth
+Jo Aldridge Thank you very much. Well put.
“Said “- God bless you . May God be with you all ! I would love a follow up on these young people . “Chevy” - those eyes tho ! 👀😊👍🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
This was so inspiring. Thank you
Great documentary, thank you for the post.. you guys have really done a wonderful job.
really heart felt video man, hopefully these homeless people find there way to achieve there goals
London, UK
excellent documentary! you guys did a really good job on this one :) the homeless people were extremely candid on their tough life and experiences
SAID @6:10... I sympathize with both you and your family... I've been in your mother's situation... and well, I handled it much differently. But the way you were treated by your family was inexcusable. Break away and I think you could be very successful - you appear to be a very kind and thoughtful young person :-) There are many of us out here who are more than happy to help you move on and succeed so that you can become your own successful individual :-) (And while none of us ever become 'rich'... we should measure our success in how many friends we have, not in how much $ pours in.... )
Best of luck Said.... take care...
~Mindy
Thank you brother for made this Movie
Gordon, really great job. At first, I thought this was created by a Canadian Broadcasting station.
Great job doing this short documentary. Thanks.
Just beautiful.
Excellent video, outstanding work.
Amazing job! Thank you!
Was homeless in Toronto for 3 years as a youth and it is rough but it teaches you humility. Not everyone chooses to be there, im a domestic violence survivor
Homelessness is the biggest scandal in modern wealthy societies
Gordon and Team. May God bless all of you. :)
Please people if you see a homeless person in the streets treat them with respect show them a little dignity they’re just a person like you and me they have a heart. I often said if I ever won a big lottery I would help the homeless out they deserve a second chance in life.
Well done guys. Keep it up.
Good Documentary! Thank you for the awareness...God Bless!

OMG! just realized the sound track behind this is "Who We Want To Be" by Tom Day!!!!
Wonderful documentary! Thank you
Heartwarming documentary
Gordon Sun you guys were right there with that Said kid... couldn't you see that seems like all you needed to do was to set him up with an appointment with a local homeless youth case worker to get him into a job and temporary housing. Seems like a responsible kid. How could you not have seen that he actually wants to get off the streets- just needed someone who cares to help.
Is there an update on Said's situation?
You guys are amazing!
Good work, I enjoyed this, We never know how the other person lives. I try not to judge.
this breaks my heart. wish I could help
you could help by donating money to homeless charities

I laughed and applauded this guy's no BS brutal honesty. I totally relate. The only difference between him and I, is that I gamed the system and worked life-threateningly hard for a year and then retired with a bankroll and some properties.
But yeah, instead of doing some of the chores I'm supposed to do, I'm watching this. Viiiiibe!
Very nice video, it really touched my heart and gave me inspiration
There must be hope for people to carry on in life.😇 and not be defeated due to the many circumstances that may occur these are trying times.
this makes me so sad. i dont want anyone to have to live like this. no one deserves to be on the street :(
This is a great documentary! :) You bring up great and important points here! :)
You picked some amazing Tom Day songs.
Love Ike's brutal honesty
