What an absolute disgrace to remove these people from the camp, they respected each other had a community.Looked after the camp environment and the nature around it.Were totally civilized only to end up on dirty streets and cold alley ways.
Shame on the state and the authority's for allowing this to happen.
There should be more camps like this.
Any one of us could end up in this position.
How are people suppose to get on in life if they cant even have the basic right to live!!
    Shame on the government too.

mark farley This "state" that Americans are in was planned. The gov't & its special interests deliberately set things up so Americans will be reduced to a "third world" status. They did not 'let' it happen, they planned it to happen. This is not a "theory."
I have been, along with millions of others, been watching it go down for a couple decades now. We all are seeing it, but so many Americans don't want to know what it means nor the why of it, nor where it ends up. Apathy is rampant in America, & it is costing us all. those who want to bury their head in the sand, & think the next person "elected" will straighten all this out. BS magical thinking, wishful thinking.
Lots of people say the gov't would not do this. That's because their heads are focused on the TV,& never on the world around them, even when it is their own fellow citizens who are sounding the alarm. Many people are under the delusion that our gov't will let them know all we need to know, & don't want to think that our gov't tells us only what They need for us to know. Therein lies a big difference between the two.
People think our gov't will come around to help sooner or later. That is exactly the attitude the gov't cultivates. It of course, will do no such thing, except to herd us where it wants us, & it is doing exactly that right now. Homelessness is no accident or "sign of the times." It is part of a careful plan.
The New World Order dictatorship is moving along nicely.

It is a shame to allow homeless camps to exist. People should have a right to a proper home, paid for by the tax payers.

Ya, the world needs a giant kick in the butt to get going with tax financed government welfare. Welfare is the key here, not fantasies about everyone getting a rent paying job in the capitalist economic system, which is a system impossibility.

Absolutely right. Life rips the rug out from underneath you sometimes, without provocation or warning, and suddenly you are without your basic needs. People are so quick to judge but fail to realize that it can happen to anyone, regardless of race, sex, or financial stability. Mental illness and addiction (sometimes both happening simultaneously) run rampant in these communities. The world needs more people like you who operate with empathy and love. Thanks for your thoughts. It reassures me that there are other individuals like you and I out there. Cheers friend.

We are spozed to be helpfull with our brothers & sisters of the world. Not get in trouble for trying to help another human being. The governments of the world need destroying instaid of them hiding & living it up in their ivory Towers protected from the General public.

This isn't about people from other countries. It isn't like our government is taking money from homeless support programs and are giving it to assist people to relocate in the US. This is the result of capitalism and privatization of mental health care, substance abuse treatment, the habitual criminalization of poverty, and the "I got mine, go get your own" mentality of our citizens. Microloans, sponsorship, and financial support of local organizations is the best way to help...because I am sure after making such an ugly post you are more than ready to HELP, right?

There should be a free, self governing, no questions asked, public camp for anyone who wishes to stay there regardless of income or circumstances. A person's reasons for being there should be a private matter. The camp should have adequate toilets, showers, trash pick-up and a heated, safe, community structure where people can sleep when the weather is dangerously cold. It should be supported by donations and whatever the campers can provide for themselves. It should have accessible public transportation. It should be enlarged to the capacity needed. There should be such a camp in every part of the country where five or more people request one.

Most people who live in a house are barely making it as it is. Sounds like another well intended drain on everyone else. I would encourage all bleeding heart, self=appointed "caring folks" to actually volunteer for helping the homeless. More than HALF of them are fine with their "laid back life of sloth and the insignificant footprint left on this planet.
I was raised and taught that EVERY person alive has a duty to the world they live in to do what they can to make it a better place. That's the opposite of selfishness. Show me an addict, I'll show you a selfish person. It's that simple, and buying them things and coddling them only steepens the slope to hell for them. Folks who feel pity for these people are mostly ignorant of the lifestyles they have and their preference to remain as they are.....until they shoot up that one last time and leave this world. You can believe what the media portrays the people as, or you can actually go hang out with them a couple of days and nights, and quickly see thru the bullshit.

I'm 44. When I was 22 I wanted to know what being homeless was like. I was fresh out of the Navy and wanted to travel for a year before reentering the workforce. I was educated, had a little money, just spent 4 great years on the sea, single... free. But I was desperate for adventure, more education. Not the type my GI Bill would provide and not the type you get sitting in class. I decided to sell or give away most of my possessions and begin a homeless trek westward as an experiment, or better yet an experience. Within 1 week of my drastic decision, I left Va with nothing more than a backpack, $400 cash and my wits. I rented a storage unit in Va for 18 months prepaid just to store extremely important documents, photos, and small belongings. I locked it up and told no one of its location or that I was disappearing for an undetermined amount of time.
I boarded a bus and headed for California. It was the mid 90's and it was the destination for despot hobos back then. My goal was to document a full year of living homeless, and joining a homeless community. I spent the first week under a bridge living close to 3 other wanderers. I learned very quickly what I still believe is true today. Being homeless for MOST people is a choice based on a lack of drive and motivation. Period. I met terrific people. I met horrible people. Most of the people I met along the way were addicted to one substance or another. Their lack of motivation was usually a huge factor in becoming addicts, and once you're an addict, there's very little hope of ever regaining that motivation, especially when you're broke and homeless. The cycle keeps these people "lost".
During that first week I tried to fit in as much as possible. I even experimented with various drugs (no needles, though). I quickly became bored with the lazy pace and lack of ambition. I tried to tell myself that I am still too fresh, that some of these people had given up on life. 6 weeks in and I was starting to feel truly homeless. Scruffy, not so clean, tired looking, a shoulder injury. I helped others collect cans and bottles, scrap metal and tires. Monotonous and very little reward. Surely that had to be another way of making money (without getting a legit job, of course). I stuck with it, vowed not to break down and get a real job or return to Va. Any given day I had less than $1 in change in my pocket. My initial 400 was gone within the first 2 weeks. I laid awake one night listening to some others talking in a tent nearby. They wanted to rob tourists in Santa Monica. I knew it was time for me to move on to a new community. Before the sun came up, I packed my bag and left the bridge. On my way out I met a young girl, 19, who also wanted to leave. So, we left together. She, for other reasons. Tanya said she was sick of the lazy, shameful act of panhandling freeway exits. If you had 8 hours to sit there and hold a sign, surely you had 8 hours to walk around and look for some type of work. I agreed.
I was finding it impossible to be in big cities and NOT stumble into a job. Seriously. People offered me a job several times every week. But I was determined to finish a full year. I came up with an odd way to earn money. Good money, fast. I was situated in a suburb of LA and surrounded by golf courses. During my many shortcuts through the woods I would find dozens of random golf balls strewn about the ground. As a golfer myself I saw the value in these balls. I began collecting golf balls and cleaning them. A few dozen at first, then hundreds, then thousands. I developed a system for locating balls at night in the woods and marshes next to particular golf course fairways. I'd hustle a few dozen here and there, to golf course pro shops, print ads (yes, before Craigslist), flea markets, etc. It started slowly. $15/day then $50/day then more than I could handle alone. Soon, I had to upgrade my shelter to accommodate the added gear for cleaning and sorting golf balls. Then, there was the whole "keeping it secret because I didn't want thieves to steal my product" thing. Being homeless was starting to slow me down.
I'm 10 months in and I have over $9000 from 3 months of "balling". Mind you, I had no "bills". 2 months to go. But I caved and rented a safe deposit box for my cash. Tanya helped me a great deal and I paid her very well. In fact, within a few weeks she had enough to buy a van and finally leave. But not before she wrecked my experience. One day I returned from the hardware store, buying cleaning products and 2 more large tubs. Walking through this secret part of the woods to my little camp, I noticed pieces of my home scattered about everywhere. All was destroyed or stolen. Everything. I started over at a new location. After 14 months I packed up and headed back home with a sizable little stash and a business idea.
Today, after decades of working corporate management, I have returned to golf balling. Only this time with a license, contracts, insurance, taxes and space to work in. For 4 years I've been doing this and now make more annually than I ever did working for someone else. But it all started while being homeless and penniless. I couldn't fathom the idea of sitting around waiting for someone to give me a handout. Or spending hours laying around in a tent, or at intersections with a sign. Some homeless are truly incapable of helping themselves and/or have ended up this way due to no fault of their own. BUT a majority of them are simply lazy. Able-bodied physically + mentally = no excuses! There's always a way.

Jason I'm in totally agreement my journey as a single mom for 20 years working 3 jobs and I am not saying this to make ANYONE feel sorry for me. I am so blessed to have the drive and not make excuses as to not make these youtube videos saying "I" a million times. Everyone has a story. Well, learning a long time ago, no one cares about your story at all. Unless you have done great things. my job is working with homeless, mentally ill and abused victims and I can tell you 85% is so intitled and looking for something for NOTHING!!! If I was a home.owner and your camp was 50 feet from my property line I would bring in a bulldozer. All my life of paying for my 30 year homeloan to let you take my property value down is displaying no reguards to anyone but yourself. I sure did notice all the people without teeth though mmmm look like a duck and walks like a duck. I have compassion but it goes to the ones that are truly mentally ill that dont do drugs and dont pray on others kindness. There are jobs get off your butt and go get them!!!!

Amazing how much of our money goes into funding crap we don't need especially when it comes to wars but never to help people who are their lowest in life. Forget about the separation of those who are better and those who are not. Forget about what society have bestowed upon you as good and bad. Listen to the Lord, he speaks through your heart. Return to the nature of peace and harmony, and help out the people around you. Hahaha I think I might go find a camp like this and live in it for a while, just to learn some personal discipline. Let me understand this: We are the richest country in the world. We can provide shelters for millions of people around the world in catastrophic events: Philippine, Syria.. We also can pay hundred of billions of dollars to rebuild Iraq, Afghanistan. We contribute billions more to shelter animals that were abandoned by their owners. But WE CAN'T HELP OUR FELLOW AMERICAN? Yes, they had issues at beginning with. Yes, they are addicts. Yes they are ex-con. But YES THEY ARE HUMAN BEING. Now what you do better? You evicted them? They dispersed all around your neighbor too. They have to sleep on the concrete and expose to the elements.
They are many thousands and still growing around this country BUT we can't solve this problem??? We can help illegal immigrants. We have law to let them go to school and pay at in state fees, take care of them when they are sick. BUT WE CAN'T HELP LESS THAN A MILLION HOMELESS AMERICAN.

Capitalism does not allow you to stop. You must walk until you die. -
There are many reasons for homelessness but at the root of all of it will also be abuse. Many people are abused and never get psychological help. That kind of help works part of the time. But, we really are our brothers keeper--capitalism doesn’t allow that. Only long distance. Or war for profit interests the powers that be. It’s all appearances; and the increase in people who can’t function is no coincidence..... God is testing us....and we are failing miserably.

I feel for these people, that was pretty heartless booting them like that.
Todays times are very hard specially the older you get I know first hand.
I lost a job of 5 years & have not been able to get much in employment for around 3 years. I was totally unemployed for over 2 years then got 2 jobs, one I was making very low wage the other like double the wage I was planning to cut the low wage job & suddenly was terminated from the higher paying job, terminated for a very lame reason as I was from the other job.
This kind of crap is happening all across this country along with the over flow of illegals who are lowering wage standards being it will be much more than where they come from in most cases. I don't blame them I blame our government for allowing this to be happening. I also blame corporate America for being so greedy they also allow this to happen.
I think people need to leave these people in these tent cities alone & work on solutions to the cause of what is making people create these tent cities bottom line. All they are doing is trying to have a place to live & sleep in this ridiculously bad economy, it is bad I know as I said first hand. I will be losing everything soon if things don't get better soon I can not survive on my current wage & it's only part time, I have been living on retirement wage which is close to gone & I am 48 with no retirement, yea America the land of opportunity what a joke!
For who is what I'd like to know?
Americans need to start banding together again & take back what is rightfully ours this really needs to stop, not one damn American should be jobless or home less unless of course they chose to be.

If you want to help, propose and enforce a change in laws which allows for exemptions to insurance, zoning and sanitation laws. Encourage your councils to allow such places, within reason. (For example, well managed and clean "tent cities".)
These places are a stepping stone where there was none, it might just be one step from the bottom, but it is a step. Evicting the homeless, what a sad reflection on our society.

A good story. I was glad to see those people have a place to sleep and a supportive community while it lasted for 2 years. When you first become homeless it's a total environmental shock for awhile and then you learn to thrive outside without getting sick too much from the heat and the cold.. Food stamps helped a lot.. Veterans should remember to get free passes at the National and State parks all over America. This is what I did for 2 years and actually loved the wilderness for awhile..

  • @maddybrummett2069
    @maddybrummett2069 8 лет назад +7

My husband and i got out of homelessness through hard work. This really pissed me off, we have never received government assistance, we did scrap metal for money sometimes though. These people get welfare, food stamps, and have benefits at churches for them, while ALL OF THEM DO NOTHING TO GET OFF THE STREETS THEMSELVES. My husband got out of the Army after 10 years and 3 deployments with an honorable discharge. The transition into civilian life was hell. We have a little rental house now, an old truck, and yes we live paycheck to paycheck, but it's our money not a handout.. We consider ourselves the working poor. I do understand how quickly everything can change, i understand what it is like living in a hotel with 3 kids. But we are doing things without any assistance, so it is possible. I personally believe people get comfortable with the assistance, and handouts, so they become lazy.

    • @maddybrummett2069
      @maddybrummett2069 8 лет назад +2

Bonnie Lee I never once implied everyone is sucking off the system. Yes there are people who need the assistance, and that is what it's in place for. But now more and more people are using the system THE WRONG WAY. My point in my comment is so people know when these homeless people say getting on your feet can't be done, they are full of it. We are proof you can achieve what you want. It might suck for a couple years, but if you put in everything you got, and even if you start on benefits, you can work towards not needing them also. YOU can overcome homelessness, BUT YOU HAVE TO WANT TO, and not depend on handouts from everyone else. You have to want to change yourself, and then you can change your situation. Yes it can happen to anyone, but it's what you do in that moment to change it that matters. Just laying around and doing nothing about your situation IS YOUR FAULT, not for the rest of us to fix. And again yes there are people who need assistance, and i have no problem supporting the handicap, or veterans, people who truly can't work due to legitimate reasons. But the other 75% just using every petty excuse they can think of to not work is BULLSHIT. If you are an alcoholic go to rehab, drug addict go to rehab, you have to TRY. AND YOU CAN'T CHANGE WHAT YOU DON'T ACKNOWLEDGE.

Do you know how corrupt and fraudulent the system is in the government itself and pretty much almost every business that's somewhat larger and you care about somebody getting some EBT or maybe getting one over on their EBT. It's people like you that goes straight to hell you are no better than anybody else. You just have to look down on people that don't do the things that you do so you can feel better about your nasty ass self. Not to mention you have help and many people don't not everybody has a husband that will provide half of everything for them what would you do if he dumped you.

At least give the lucid ones vehicles... that they can drive. Sometimes mobility is all that a person needs. The vehicles would have to come from the government, with maybe special plates... Once they get an apartment, then they have to give the vehicles back.
    - People want to build slums to house the homeless - very expensive and face it.. they deteriorate rather rapidly... Then no-one wants to be near or live in them. It's a very 20th century solution.
    - A car for a single person. A van for a couple or with a kid or two.
    - The government can then give them a weekly allowance for gas, and free vehicle maintenance.
    - In cold weather, the gov can provide heat hookups - like how drive-ins used to have speakers.
    - It will cost money, but it will be a lot less than building buildings and neighborhoods for them.

Great job, kudos to The churches. This goes on every day all over the country, but no one ever says the good things churches do for the community.

It is now 2020, and I am so curious if you have kept in touch with any of the people of "Camp Take Notice"
Have they ever gotten back together, what has happened to them, including the founder of the camp Caleb Poirier ?

This has got to be where group morals came from in early man. I know that this isn't the point of this video, but it's an interesting side note. Everyone makes a set of rules, you can get voted out or reinstated. They don't need Jesus, they need to buy a speck of land somewhere and continue this experiment!

To the man that petitioned against this camp...there are drug overdoses and crime EVERYWHERE!!!! I would rather see these relatively clean, self-governed camps than people sleeping on sidewalks. Where else are they supposed to go? There clearly are not enough homeless shelters to meet the need!!

We had a farm owner take about 5 of us in with our motor homes for the winter. We had water, lights & sewer. We could keep our pets. The Town of Brookhaven kicked us out. The owner passed away.

giving the homeless land would be less money for the tax payer as it is 40,000plus a year to jail a person times each year of life opposed to 10,000 for piece of land once.
