    Nice interview. The interviewer did seem a little intimidated, rightfully so, being around the film buff's film buff. Entertainment itself looks like an easy 5 bags of popcorn and 2 smashed drinks.

    This film is most definitely not a comedy. That said it's more of a black-meta drama.
    I've rewatched this work of art on Netflix at least twenty times. The master craftsmanship that is used here is fascinating. Each detail is so precise and intentional it's actually refreshing to see such a well executed project of passion.
    Since I've seen it it's become my dream to meet Gregg Turkington and buy him dinner.

    Underrated movie, everyone will get it eventually in 20-30 years...

    • @alexbutlerful
      @alexbutlerful 8 лет назад +2

      +TheHooliganification Granted the movie is a bit of a dark comedy, did you find most of the movie to be comical or disturbing? The reason why I ask is the second time I saw this in a theatre with more people than the first, there were a group of people who laughed at the birthing scene in the bathroom, both at the events leading up and after. Maybe there was some intended comic relief at the sudden cut after the scene, but I didn't find it as hilarious as those who were laughing through out the entire scene.

    • @lonobl7575
      @lonobl7575 5 лет назад +2

      Alex Butler I reckon it’d be a nervous release - that scene is pretty absurd and confronting, and because it was in a social environment, they were laughing for comfort.

    I can't be the only person who 100% believed I had heard the interviewer introduce us to the On Cinema studios. A million questions ran through my mind - is this some kind of rival to the undisputed master of independent film and analogue recording archiving over at VFA studios? Has Gregg stoppped by to lend some much needed expertise to these pretenders over at 'On Cinema Studios' with some kind of Q&A? And who is his new companion, he doesn't give off the vibe of a movie buff, which is something every seasoned buffer has a sixth sense for, and it has me worried that Greg is repeating old habits by pairing himself with musicians and druggies, he will have a Dekkar 4.0 reboot tribute band on his hands if he doesn't keep a close eye on this unshaven guy, who doesnt even look like's ever even seen Free Willy 3: The Rescue let alone knows the running time (a clasically sub 2 hour smooth 1 hour and 27 minutes, a real popcorn movie, family movie, and obvious five bagger)
    Be careful Gregg, even finding out it seems actually she said BeyONd Cinema and its completely unrelated, I had to warn you, one buff to another, part of the code of the buff brotherhood.

    Entertainment is not a good film.
    A perfect film for Sundance fest: alot of static frames, rare music bits etc.
    But a total lake of character motivation.
    The whole environment in this movie seems to be the depression of Neil subjectivity,
    but, if he is a downer, you never have any contrast with upper somewhere.
    I wonder during all the film "why people are interested to invite this guy?".
    I'm a depressive and I don't even recognize myself in Neil,
    because there is no outside of him into this world, he is totally connected with the environment and the result is this is boring.

      I like Rick Alverson's movies because they make me inhabit the emptiness of the characters by showing them without a filter, people who are living only to live, to entertain or satisfy themselves, and how emotionally bankrupt and life-draining that existence becomes. I think it's hard to do that without either being heavy-handed in portraying a monster or leaning hard on an anti-hero/redemptive angle, too many writers and directors want the audience to see themselves uncritically in a character to legitimize that character's existence or journey, not many are as able to present them this fully realized or challenging.
