For me I use Skull candy earphones more for just everyday life but when I want to listen to something with the highest quality I use my Sony wireless ones. The Skull candy is more convenient but my wireless ones are just better to listen through.

+Ian Coates yeah IEM's tend to be much more expensive than equivalently good sounding over ear headphones, up to a few times more expensive. Even top tier IEM's sounded rather cramped and congested when compared to top tier over ear headphones.
But more often than not the return of quality for each dollar is greater in lower priced (200 or below) earphones. Anything else is ridiculous for the casual/enthusiast wearer.
I do have a pair of each. V-MODA Crossfade LP, and Blue Ever Blue 833. The first I got massively discounted on Amazon when they were still the newest model, and the second one I got from Massdrop on a grab bag for $22. Both are incredibly comfortable, feature very good sound, especially on the low frequencies, the way I like. The V-MODAs already came with an in-cable mic, but I preferred their BoomPro which has great quality.

One of the BIGGEST issues I have with headphones (that you didn't mention) is how sticky your ears get! Your ears produce a lot of wax when they get warm so you're left with a very unpleasant surprise in your ear holes after using large headphones.
Well, i work as cabin crew and the reason why we tell passengers to take off headphones is, if we do an important announcement for takeoff or landing people with headphone will not hear it. It's actually only for that reason. After landing gear is retracted you can use them.
Before I even watch I'm gonna say that there's been years of research that show earphone destroy your hearing and everything about it. So no matter how comfortable or portable they are, nothing beats that.

A long time ago I bought beats studio headphones and while I enjoyed the sound quality, I didn't like how loud they were for others besides me. I then switched to Bose noise cancelation headphones and they didn't have a ton of base but sounded better for acoustics and others couldn't hear me. Then I got the beats Tours and it had way more bass than the studios(which I loved) and I could blast them while it wasn't super loud for those around me. Accidentally left the, in the wash a few years ago and haven't had a good pair of headphones since. Still don't get all the hate on the Beats Tours
Need to know info for earphones users: You don't have to use the silicone tips your earphones come with. Get some memory foam tips, they isolate so much better, they're a must have!

I've also heard somebody shoved a tip into his ear so far that, when attempting to remove it, it came off the earphone and was stuck in his ear canal. He went to the doctor to have it removed and all is well now, so even that isn't irreparable.
I think the little ear buds block out more sound and make it harder for air to flow through. So the sound is worse then over ear. dont know about the tight ones. Just never get hit in the back of the head while wearing tight over the ear headphones. It echoes and feels like your skull has been smashed and all the sound exploded your ear drums, so now you have a really bad headache and throbbing ear pain

On a serious note, earbuds, not to be confused with in-ear monitors (IEMs), cannot create seal inside or around your ear, so it's very difficult to get bass extension into the sub-bass frequencies. That is why in-ear earphones are popular in the audiophile community. You should check out "custom iems" on google. They are molded to fit the shape of your ear so you can't even feel them when they're in place.
Idk how to describe them but earbuds used to be prominently made one way and now they're all made with those rubber pieces which go deep in your ear canal.
I have both, and yes both side of the reasons made sense. Earphone is best for traveling, portability even at work (if allowed in you workplace) while having the over year one for my main system at home. Exclusively a home headphone. kind of like some people refuse to take their tablet outside of their house while their laptop or phone is best both in door and out.
4 years have passed and we now have superb earbuds like the SoundPEATS Truengine 3 which beat any headphones bar none and cost way less than any decent over ear headphones I've heard.

Reason #6, if you have pierced ears, like I do, you can have earings in while using your earbuds without pain. Whenever I use over ear headphones, it hurts my ears if I have earings in, plus you can't see them so it defeats the purpose of wearing them.

You forgot one very important thing. Way better surround sound. Because the sound comes right in your ear, you are able to locate the sound a lot easier. Over-ear headphones have that space between the speaker and your ear, and it feels akward when there is some really extreme surround, especially ASMR videos. This is only IMO.
Im working in a call center and some agents preferred using earphones than headphones because they have sensitive ears, some headphones cause earache if you use it in a long period of time. But earphones audio quality is bad.
I hugely prefer these because I cannot stand having shit on my head. Also, I find in-ear headphones very comfortable (I'm used to wearing earplugs for work) while on-ear headphones start to hurt after only a few minutes, and over-ear headphones get sweaty.
One reason why listening at high volumes w/ in ear headphones is really bad for you: Since it's closer to your ear drum, it has less distance to transmit sound, thus hearing loss. Listening with over ears is better for your ears at high volumes.
Not convinced. If you ask me, wether to go with in ear or over ear really depends on vereuis factors and situations. When it comes to bluetooth battery life, over ear has longer lasting batteries. But go with buds instead if you're wearing a hoodie or suit and tie.
I definitely prefer ear buds rather than over early headphones for lifting and jogging, it just is annoying dealing with heat and wet ear cups in some cases
You should really try listening to the Sol Republic Shadow Bluetooth in ear headphones, they're kind of expensive but they have the best sound quality out of in ear headphones I've ever experienced
In-ears helped me pass high school. Back when I had long hair, I could record answers on my phone and then play them on loop with one of these little guys in my ear, completely covered with hair.
my friend had the same idea, except not with answers, just listening to music. He was gonna use the wireless headphones, specifically either the new AirPods, or the wireless LG headphones.
My friend have been buying headphones alot recently, and that is because they break, in a matter of 2 weeks. Even headphones with a decent price, they break as well. But the reason why they break alot is bc one of her family members leave them on the floor. Her house have 2 dogs and 3 cats.
My main reason : I listen to music all day (reasonable volume) and earphones hurt my ears overtime (actual wounds and bleeding). Headphones for live if you have sensitive ears and use them a lot.

I use the apple earpods for earbuds, the Audio Technica ATH M40X for audio editing and recording, and the Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum Snow for gaming. Love the sound of the Audio Technica and Logitech sets but they always leave me with headset hair, but I can't game or work with audio with the earpods :P dem tradeoffs

Wrong....good headphones have incredible and very deep bass. Ear buds frequently don't fit right and that causes a loss of bass.

I feel like long term usage of earphones is bad for ur ear canal compared to headphones. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'd like someone's expertise on this.

+Jared The only harm that can come from in ear monitors is if you play them to loudly, but that is true for all headphones. I've also heard somebody shoved a tip into his ear so far that, when attempting to remove it, it came off the earphone and was stuck in his ear canal. He went to the doctor to have it removed and all is well now, so even that isn't irreparable.
I think the little ear buds block out more sound and make it harder for air to flow through. So the sound is worse then over ear. dont know about the tight ones. Just never get hit in the back of the head while wearing tight over the ear headphones. It echoes and feels like your skull has been smashed and all the sound exploded your ear drums, so now you have a really bad headache and throbbing ear pain
6th reason: the tips that fit in your ear block any sound of the exterior better than any big ass headphone
+JAMiE DC noise isolation is the term used in headphone reviews, and you are quite right. Noise isolation was a huge oversight for this video. It's the most important aspect of an IEM, other than sound quality.

On a serious note, earbuds, not to be confused with in-ear monitors (IEMs), cannot create seal inside or around your ear, so it's very difficult to get bass extension into the sub-bass frequencies. That is why in-ear earphones are popular in the audiophile community. You should check out "custom iems" on google. They are molded to fit the shape of your ear so you can't even feel them when they're in place.
Makes sense, I always did notice the more prominent low-end but the seal just doesn't feel good to my ears.

Idk how to describe them but earbuds used to be prominently made one way and now they're all made with those rubber pieces which go deep in your ear canal.
I have both, and yes both side of the reasons made sense. Earphone is best for traveling, portability even at work (if allowed in you workplace) while having the over year one for my main system at home. Exclusively a home headphone. kind of like some people refuse to take their tablet outside of their house while their laptop or phone is best both in door and out.
4 years have passed and we now have superb earbuds like the SoundPEATS Truengine 3 which beat any headphones bar none and cost way less than any decent over ear headphones I've heard.
I tried them and there amazing. Another headphone I would recommend is the Sony wh-ch510

certain tips are standardised so you can get replacements or steal some from old pairs. although some can change how the sound is though

Reason #6, if you have pierced ears, like I do, you can have earings in while using your earbuds without pain. Whenever I use over ear headphones, it hurts my ears if I have earings in, plus you can't see them so it defeats the purpose of wearing them.

I agree. Gym or on the go i use earbuds. but relaxing or listening to music, playing video games I use over the ear monitors. just better sound quility with the big drivers.

Because the sound comes right in your ear, you are able to locate the sound a lot easier.
Over-ear headphones have that space between the speaker and your ear, and it feels akward when there is some really extreme surround, especially ASMR videos.

Im working in a call center and some agents preferred using earphones than headphones because they have sensitive ears, some headphones cause earache if you use it in a long period of time. But earphones audio quality is bad.

I hugely prefer these because I cannot stand having shit on my head. Also, I find in-ear headphones very comfortable (I'm used to wearing earplugs for work) while on-ear headphones start to hurt after only a few minutes, and over-ear headphones get sweaty.
One reason why listening at high volumes w/ in ear headphones is really bad for you: Since it's closer to your ear drum, it has less distance to transmit sound, thus hearing loss. Listening with over ears is better for your ears at high volumes.
Not convinced. If you ask me, wether to go with in ear or over ear really depends on vereuis factors and situations. When it comes to bluetooth battery life, over ear has longer lasting batteries. But go with buds instead if you're wearing a hoodie or suit and tie.
I definitely prefer ear buds rather than over early headphones for lifting and jogging, it just is annoying dealing with heat and wet ear cups in some cases
You should really try listening to the Sol Republic Shadow Bluetooth in ear headphones, they're kind of expensive but they have the best sound quality out of in ear headphones I've ever experienced
In-ears helped me pass high school. Back when I had long hair, I could record answers on my phone and then play them on loop with one of these little guys in my ear, completely covered with hair.
my friend had the same idea, except not with answers, just listening to music. He was gonna use the wireless headphones, specifically either the new AirPods, or the wireless LG headphones.

My friend have been buying headphones alot recently, and that is because they break, in a matter of 2 weeks. Even headphones with a decent price, they break as well. But the reason why they break alot is bc one of her family members leave them on the floor. Her house have 2 dogs and 3 cats.

I use the apple earpods for earbuds, the Audio Technica ATH M40X for audio editing and recording, and the Logitech G933 Artemis Spectrum Snow for gaming. Love the sound of the Audio Technica and Logitech sets but they always leave me with headset hair, but I can't game or work with audio with the earpods :P dem tradeoffs
