Hey bro how many months do u think I will take to become good animator ?
In blender
@@Adoof_3.0 around 18 months to 3 years, depends on your knowledge, practice time and speed...... Not a master ofcourse but an okay good animator, becoming a master requires going into a good school or institue and about 4 to 5 years in education
@@legolizard3d damn I got time I won’t say my age but I haven’t reached collage yet so I am lucky
@@Adoof_3.0 yeah same with me...take your time and move on....
to inform you guys even more "The 3d animators who creates feauture films can also work in vfx projects and create realistic movements!
Plus they can also make 2d animations using 3d software just by playing with some shaders
@@user-gq1ij no they can't. They can do clockable uncanny valley. Like Berserk 2016 or RWBY
@@katokianimation it’s not impossible to make 3D look 2D, it would be easier it’s a more western style instead of an anime for example
@@IyeViking of course its not. We just have to look at Paperman, spiderverse, or even in some video games like dragon Ball fighterz
@@katokianimationYes they can, literally google it...
So, I myself am a 2D artist and 3D artist, and I thought I'd weigh in on this topic.
Firstly, 2D animation teams are typically made up of keyframers, in-between-ers, background artists, and different people for editing, visual effects (explosions, sunlight, etc.), sound effects and music, and of course the voice acting.
3D is usually concept artists, 3D modelers, animators, and editors/post processors.
NOTE: These are NOT including the people responsible for creating the story and script. This is just the core of the animation team.
Now, the thing with 2D is that most people aren't going to be good at everything needed. For example, one person maybe be a great character artist, while another person might be good at drawing environments. You basically NEED specialized teams of people in order to get things done with any sort of consistency.
For 3D, the only real things you may need specialization in are modeling, texturing, and rigging/animating.
Now, I'd like to mention something. 3D is actually EASIER than 2D, and here's why. For 2D, every background viewed from a different angle HAS to be a new drawing. In 3D, it's as simple as moving the camera to a different location. Also worth noting is that 2D can't exactly reuse anything a majority of the time. For 3D, there are plenty of assets and even animations you can reuse, like for crowds or buildings, plants, animals, even cars can all be reused for different movies.
Even for something like flowing water, 2D animators have to draw every frame that you see, while 3D animators can set up a simulation and let it play.
Now, the amount of time needed. 2D productions do take a large amount of time to make, since everything needs to be drawn for that specific production, but every drawing can basically be used as soon as it's finished. 3D productions also take a long time, but a lot of that can come down to render times. I'm sure these huge companies have some insane computers, but even something we take for granted like a shot of a character looking out at a vast cityscape for a few seconds can take anywhere from a few minutes to a whole day to render. Things like fluids, hair, grass, lights, they all add up to huge render times, PER FRAME. 2D wins out in speed there because each frame is dependent on how quickly the artists can draw, not to mention most dialogue reuses a few frames, except for if a character moves their head or is at a different angle.
That's one of the other things too, frames. 2D animations are done at varying frame rates, but typically its 8 or 12, while 3D films are at 24, 30, or 60. If we go with 12 and 30, that means 1 second of 2D animation is 12 drawings, while 1 second of 3D animation is 30 images. With the amount of time rendering takes, I wouldn't be surprised if a large portion of time spent on a 3D film was waiting for renders, not to mention if there's a glitch or something isn't animated properly, leading to a re-render.
Now as for budget, I don't think that's a very fair comparison. Anime studios don't exactly have the same available budget that Western companies do. I mean, we're comparing Disney, the biggest player in the entertainment business, to Japanese studios that nobody outside of Japan or the anime community have heard of. Let's compare.
Disney as a company is worth $54 Billion. The entire anime INDUSTRY is worth $22 Billion. Disney alone is worth double the entire anime industry, and we still haven't included Pixar, Dreamworks, or Sony. Also, anime studios have been very well known for underpaying their animators. So yeah, it isn't really comparable when it comes to the cost of these projects. The truth is most, if not all, 2D animation studios can't afford to even come close to the amount of money Disney can throw at its projects.
Now, I'm not trying to say one is better than the other, or trying to discredit the amount of talent and work that go into any of these projects, I'm saying that comparing the costs of one of the biggest companies in the world to vastly smaller studios in a different country isn't exactly the best way to determine if one medium is cheaper than the other.
That's not even mentioning that there are FREE pieces of software you can use. Photoshop has plenty of free alternatives, and Blender is a free 3D software.
In my opinion as an artist of both 2D and 3D mediums, 2D is harder and more time consuming (if we don't include 3D render times), while 3D is easier, since there are plenty of free assets you can use, most of the hard work is done by the render engine, etc.
I think 2D is more expensive but less quality demanding. I don't mean the animation quality, but for 2D you can get away more easily with simpler drawings that look good, use cheap loop sequences or make smart holds and slower frame rates more excusable while In 3D because its a simulation you have to be more accurate with realistic light, physics and textures otherwise it would look cheap.
thats how anime studios and studios like Cartoon Saloon and Powerhouse can compete with 3D companies of their size
nah, you probably not well educated with 3d. Both are difficult, in 3d animation the level of technicality is much higher than 2d. Not to mention, 3d animation studios sometimes build a specific software just for the project. In 3d you can't make cheats like you do in 2d animation like anime, animation in 3d is more lively and it is animated in 3d space. And don't even argue that anime has cheaper budget than disney like studios, anime is cheaper because it is created to be a cheaper and quicker to produce style of animation. In anime, studios can make a single episode in a week while in 3d you can do that.
your comparison is dumb, all the pass in 2d pipeline are also in 3d pipeline. All the things you mention in 2d pipeline, 3d has that. You are underestimating 3d animators like they are just pressing buttons to animate characters. 3d animators are better and much technical than 2d animators most of the time. And you know how hard rigging is? you did not even mention this. 3d artists often have atleast decent programming skills, the 3d production pipeline is so bloated that if you know how to do all the things in there you are basically a god.
@@ian3087 dude im doing 3D as well as 2D, trust me, I know good 3D animation is really hard to do and you basically have to take care of every single controller for every single frame to recreate the illusion of life for a fictional CG character.
however, 2D full animated sequence is much harder because a 2D animator have to achieve all of the skilled I mentioned as well as having great drawing skills, trying to make the perspective work and keeping the character consistent.
thats why most of the 2D work is mostly limited animation and the full animation sequences are kept to the hypex moments.
modeling? rigging? lighting? thous skills are super hard but their not part of the animation stage.
also I don't mean to say one is harder or better than the other, each medium has its strengths and its struggles, and I think the future hold for the mix of both of them anyways.
oh, and anime is cheaper mainly because tv series tend to be cheaper than movies. thats the same for western cartoons.
@@kupeart3746 nah, what about anime movies compare to western animation movies? and western cartoons show is much expensive compare to anime shows also. I know both medium, in 2d you can cheat a lot. If you are talking about animation alone, the style of animation in 3d needs to be complex, it has to be. the physics and realism in movement must be achieved all the time. For example in 2d you can lip sync with using just 2 mouth drawings, in 3d you cant do that. The frequent use of still images in 2d animations? how about that? Thats the thing in 2d animation, you can cheat a lot in animating process (unless you are doing a disney 2d style of animation). 3d animation is always complex in motion and it is done on 3 dimensions. That what makes the 3d animating process harder.
Also you have to remember that a good animator must have deep understanding in physics and principles. That is the essence and the hard part of animation.
You should’ve also included examples like CG animated films made in Japan like Stand by Me Doraemon, or CG films from Illumination or Sony Pictures Animation. For the latter two, their budgets are a lot lower, but that’s due to how their animation is outsourced to other countries for cheaper labor.
Basically what I’m saying is that CG can be just as cheap to produce as a 2D animated film.
In some of these countries 3d animation is cheaper than using cameras to shoot. End result is crap, but it's cheaper
Actually is cheaper , the main reason why both east and west go for 3d instead of 2d
@@guotyr2502 It depand, if doing crappy, stiff 3d,yes it is cheaper.
But if doing it for quality, details, a lot of money and time would be spend into modelling. And if the anime contains a lot of characters or surroundings, it will also cost more.
I agree, price doesn't reflect amount of work.
One big reason for 3d films costing so much is because most are made in the US.
American film and animation workers earn 80k-120k dollars a year.
Add that to venues, marketing and equipment the number goes up very easily.
In countries like South Africa, Brazil and India an upper middle class or wealthy salary is about 20-26k a year.
These nations are also technologically advanced in their urban areas and are great for starting animation production
Most of those US made movie budgets include marketing, but yeah, to produce a 3D animated film in the US cost way more than the cost of producing anything 2D in Japan!
And the cost of the voice talent. Recent films are using famous actors. Cha-ching.
@@bentontramell both of you have good points
Plus all the celeb music and actors doing the voice overs ...it all adds up quickly
I personally love 2D animation and 3D animation equally. They can create amazing things separately and together. Both have their ups and downs.
We will always have bad 2D and 3D stuff like Berserk 16/17 (3D), The Emoji Movie (3D), Norm of the North (3D), The Queen’s Corgi (3D), Big Mouth (2D), Brickleberry (2D) and Paradise P.D. (2D)
However we will always have masterpieces from both like Spider-Verse (3D), Arcane (3D), How to Train Your Dragon (3D), The Incredibles (3D), The Lion King (2D), A Silent Voice (2D) and Spirited Away (2D).
In the end, i will always love animation in general. No matter what kind of art style 😊👍
As he said the softwares studios use are subscription based, I think to myself, Thank God blender is free, at least breaking away that thought that 3d softwares are expensive and will always be for studios, which I had before as a noob, who taught Maya is the only pro software.but preferably 2D seems the very best for anyone no matter what OS you use, even with nil budget, all criteria for professional 2D is all your skill.
No one in their right mind would use Blender to produce a full length 3D animated film, for 2D, no problem, they did as great job of using Blender for I Lost My Body, but not 3D, unless you want to produce something that is very limited visually, like they did with Next Gen!
@@gcharb2d nextgen ?
@@TechnologyQuest369 A full length 3D Film made with Blender 3D, look it up, it's not bad, but visually disappointing, and it was a nightmare to produce it with Blender according to several sites!

3d is not easy to learn, the question is why people in the industry are underpaid?
If u say Japan anime u have
The quantity or mass produce the one with studio manage to make 10 anime in a year but only 2 or 3 are actually good rest are garbage like the isekai genre that they are making a lot of.
Most of their anime merchandise aren’t so profitable and a lot of outdated business practice.
A lot of them are freelancer or outsource from other country and a lot of animators don’t have money skill or negotiation skill for their salary.
Also profit margin are very low so they mass produce more than 10 anime per year.
Then u have Quality like Ufotable and Kyoani
They release less 2 or 3 anime per year and they have the most valuable IP franchise and merchandise like Ufotable have Fate and Demon Slayer both make biggest bank for Ufotable and they also try to up to date the business model also they like to try crowd funding. So the animators are well paid.
Western animation like Disney or Dreamworks or Sony well they have valuable IP and and a lot of money to advertise globally and sell merchandise to everyone. But there are cases where workers are being abused same as Japan animator.
2d animation is better for longer shows and anime. 3d animation is better for short movies like most pixars
Demon slayer, Dragon Ball super, Atlantis the lost empire and Treasure planet all make use of 3D animation mixed with some 2D drawings, even Tarzan was 2D drawings made on top of a 3D modelisation. And Klaus was a small production, comparing its budget to big feature films makes no sens.
As far as I can tell the only one of your exemples of 2D animation to be pure 2D is Spirited-away (and Tarzan if you count the fact that there is no 3D left on the final screen). Most 2D films (including the ones you quoted as exemples for 2D animation) nowadays includes 3D scene / backgrounds because it is indeed cheaper than fully drawing everything.
The only true conclusion that can be drawn from your list is that animation is much cheaper in Japan than in the US, which is absolutely true but has nothing to do with 3D vs 2D.
Ufotable makes the 2d animation to the next level, i rarely watch 3d film but anime is something different.
Thats so true
For me it is shaft and mappa
Ufotable does 3d they just make the lines sync perfect if its 2d either bones or toei
@@irfanhossainbhuiyanstudent3757 shaft tru but mappa is inconsistent and their staffs barely hav eyes due to overwork too
If you made 2D animation with CG instead of hand drawn would that be faster or slower and would it cost more or less
Great video as always
I'm working on a short 3d film myself, so you really put into perspective just how huge of an undertaking this will be 😅
Thank god I'm getting my 3080ti this tuesday
Nice job at feeding scalpers
@@goldencarrotmlp2157 nice job assuming.
I got mine from a genuine source
@@neian147 Where would I be able to watch this film? Is it for a student project, a personal project, or something to pitch to studios? Basically, what I'm asking is if the models would be available to buy?
I think tutorials will be the best this time please
Wait if 3d costs more and takes longer, how is it killing 2d? People still love 2d so why not take advantage of the low costs and shorter production time?
2D animations isn't bad at all, but if there's a way to mass produce 3D animations cheaper, then everyone will move to 3D animations most likely.
No one really care about 2D aesthetics but 'the styles' which is still very difficult and expensive to applied in 3D animations.
If you watched 3d(the good one) and attract to it, it will be hard to go back to 2d. 2d look plain in comparison.
Because this guy is literally full of shit . 2d is way harder to do in terms of the actual animation part of things . Once a character is rigged ,you can reuse that throughout the film vs drawing that same character a billion times . Modern day animators don't have the balls for that
Because 3D animation is cheaper and budgets are indicated without taking inflation into account.
I'm no expert but I honestly think it just comes down to ease of workflow.
With 3D, you can easily adjust angles, character positions, and poses on the fly while doing any of that in 2D requires redrawing an entire character or entire scene, something that can be extremely tedious.
3D also comes with increased returns the longer a project goes on. For TV shows and movies, the benefits of not having to constantly and consistently redraw environments has to be pretty massive. For a good looking shot in an anime or 2D cartoon, the work that went into it is only really reusable a few times before people notice that you're using the same shot one and over again and get annoyed. With 3D you can just take a good oooking environment and film it at a different angle for a fresher take.
3d waaaaaaaaaaaaay is less laborious
So I can I do this?
Thanks for these important facts about the industry.
I like your videos then watch
are those numbers with inflation in mind?
not really!
3D costs more money to make, but looks worse. I wonder how much would anime cost if the artists were paid properly. Maybe more than 3d or even live action movies.
i use udemy

you ar comparing old 2d movies (and klause thats an small netflix produccition) with the BIG TITLES we see today, you have to compare somethig from rougthly the same year, and the same studio size
If 3d Is More expensive then why we don't have more 2d movies???
3d movies made more success in box office
@@seedad117 No
Because Bob Iger, that's why. He banked everything on 3d movies alone and ditched the 2d studios. Now Disney is trying to train new future 2d animators because they are in serious need for them and see profit on 2d production.
I'm saying Disney to simplify. But its the same thing with the entire western entertainment industry. Some other studios like sony just fund shows from japan so they make 2d entertainment and movie studios like universal and 20 centilury fox usualy just make live action movies(and mostly use photo realistic cgi). There are also newer methos of making animation in general that are helping both 2d and 3d be cheaper and convenient.
Because 2d is not as suitable as 3d for big screen.
So, the big answer is…. No? 3D isn’t cheaper than 2D? It’s just less time consuming, right?
No matter what anyone says, 2D looks better
False thumbnail lmao ds is 3d and if 3d done right thats the result the future ppl are working for
Most of the works he cited as 2D animation are actually a mix of 2D and 3D to various degree. 3D animation is present in the vast majority of "2D" animation nowadays and people only complain when it's done wrong while they eat it up without even realizing when it's done right.
3d animation is justt combination between 2d and 3d
2d animations also use alot of 3d animation
