My Thai wife is from the south. She has always said Hua Hin exactly as IC does here. I just shake my head when I hear people say it that other way...don't they ever think to ask a Thai person as you just did?
Thanks for this comment, it's exactly how Som says it. I don't really give a damn, to be honest, it just amazes me how expats come to Thailand, living in the best country in the world. Just a simple mispronounced word that isn't their native language upsets them so much. Like, man, take Valium lol
She should giver ther pronunciation of Pattaya and Patong too, always here those pronounced incorrectly
I will get her to go a short of Pattaya this week 😀👍
She was so lovely I found myself feeling proud of her from young dog sitter to business woman really great post mate 🙏🙏🙏
Another great vlog Jonnie, its great that your helping IC along with her business 👍well done champion 🏆 their's no W in Hua Hin 😉
Nice interview, Johnny! Glad to see you’re branching out in terms of content.
G’day Jonny, we were in Phuket last year and mentioned to a Thai person the places we had been-including Hua Hin. They were amazed that I pronounced Hua Hin correctly. This is from watching your channel and others. I have picked up some Thai from just watching RUclipsrs talk to locals. Thanks for another awesome video.
Always interesting and entertaining as always, wishing ice success in her business for the future . Hope all is well with the family
Thanks Michael glad you enjoyed it, yeah i am sure Ice will be successful moving forward. Family are well thanks, we off to Bangkok for 3 days Friday so that will be fun. Take care buddy :-)
IC - nice work Jonny - very cool video - As expected , her English is excellent - very good - 👌👍✔️👋🙏😃
Great informative video and a testament on just how you help others too.
Another brilliant video Jonny and ic seems lovely 👍👍
😀🙏
Thank you because you are amazing because you are open. From Switzerland
That is awesome that she started this school. Many foreigners could benefit from it just as locals. Great video. Many Thanks to Iceland you. Cheers guys 🍻🥂🍻🥂👍
Great show Jonny! Enjoy your day! Enjoy your day! 😊
Always enjoy your videos Jonny.
I appreciate that Dennis thanks for watching 😊🙏
Ice ice baby! Man she only got better over the years! Would love language lessons from Ice.
Jonny,
Awesome.
I'm glad you asked IC about pronunciation. In fact most people miss pronounce Pattaya too.
Cheers.
Awesome!!!
Thank you for sharing
My pleasure🙏
IC seems like she would be an excellent teacher. She's outgoing, has a sense of humor, and seems very organized.
Supporting local business, good job Jonny. Hope to visit Hua Hin on our next ASEAN visit, thanks.
Thanks for watching, I will always support small business in this town that i think deserve the recognition. I hope you have a trip when you come to Hua HIn 🙂
It was not a million dollar question because if you look at how it is spelled in thai then it would be completely obvious that it is Hua Hin not Wa Hin
It was a million dollar question actually, you don't read every youtube comment published on this channel lol
@@jonnyasia Haha okay fair enough
Jonny you're a gentleman and a scholar!
All the best to Ice on her new endeavors! 🙏
CHEERS!
Thanks Scott hope you are well 🙂
@@jonnyasia You're welcome Jonny!
I'm doing well here in far West Texas, thank you for asking.
Glad to see you're having Ice help you out with Som and Title becoming more fluent in English.
Any plans on you attempting to learn more Thai?
ALL the to you Jonny, Som and Title! 🙏
Thanks Jonny for helping us to say the Correct Pronunciation of Hua Hin. You, Som and Title have a good day.
Thank you, i only give you guys the best possible advice i have🙂
Good interview !
Thank you 🙏
Jonny,Som,Title, and Ice, y'all rock! Ice is beautiful 😍! Peace 🤘 💥 ✌️
Thanks Benny hope you are well mate 🙂
Smart girl, wish her the best
Nice one 😊
I wouldn't mind chilling with Ice..........
Informative. On your best behaviour :}
Thanks for clearing up the pronunciation. I have been wondering about this for a while now. Pattaya also has 2 versions and this is another quandary for viewers. Any chance of Ice clearing that one up once and for all. Thanks.
There is only one way of saying Pattaya in thai and it is the way thai say it... not the way english speakers butcher it.
Never mind, just say Patio Beach. 😄
Impressive young entrepreneur.
Now we know! Thanks.
Glad to help!
Hua means head. So like any word, there is a correct way to say it. Thanks for clearing it up IC.
Yes! Thank you!😊 🙏
@@jonnyasia perhaps in the future, ask ICE advice regarding the 23 hour =- flight to U.S.
Very good very good 👍
Good work JS
Hua is Waa in Mandarin, Who-a in Thai. There is a big tech company in Thailand called Hua Wei and it’s pronounced Waa way, but that’s because it’s the largest tech company from China. But internet trolls demand you say Waa.
Ha ha, I was just reconfirming my Hua Hin with the wife. Then she pulled out the Chinese/Huawei example for contrast. 😄👍
Wow I hope she offers school visas , I may give it a try ! Thanks Jonny ... enjoy .
Nailed it jonny
Another good one Jonny, mixing it up, gee, you both look so different than 8 years ago, both looked so young, still look great but you were both handsome and pretty, lucky you had Som in the house, could easily had been led astray 😂😂😂
สวยและฉลาดขอรับ
I'll be in Hua Hin next month with my 8 year old half Thai son who legally can own property in Thailand but can't speak a word of Thai might come see her.
Can highly recommend Ice, have a great trip and all her contact details are in the description 🙏😊
Thank you Khru Ice - I will revert back to saying Hua Hin rather than Wa Hin.
Nice work Jonny. Hoo-ah Hin, Hoo-ah Hin. Best of luck for Ice and her business. Hoo-ah Hin, Hoo-ah Hin. 🤣🙏
Do you have her website or FB link? I’m hoping to go in November and it wouldn’t hurt to learn some Thai ahead of time
👍👍
Hello Jonny, I like the Thai language. But I find it difficult, because I do not know of anybody here that can speak the language. I will be in thailand in 3 months time. So I will try and pick a book while I am there.
I was going to comment it would be nice for title and mom to learn English so they can participate more in your vids....nice. now, let's hear you speak Thai...
Hi Peter, Thanks for your comment! Learning Thai is tough for me due to dyslexia. That's why I use the Timekettle translator www.timekettle.co to communicate better. Thanks for watching!
You can tell she's been in America from the number of times she says "like".
hahah....like, I thought the same
In Australia we say Cu#T so i am guessing "like" is much better lol
And she caught that annoying western habit of Vocal Fry
I'm curious as to what part of the USA she attended college.
@@grahamhutton1633 I've never heard of vocal fry before. This is probably the first time I've learned something from a Jonny video and it's from the comments!
I can say "Hua Hin" correctly in my Tinglish accent but as soon as I revert to English, it sounds different (Like a lot of Thai words)...
She’s Beautiful
But she spelt Ice wrong here sweat shirt spell's IC. 555
Does ice have her own RUclips channel?
The way she says Hua Hin is somewhere in between Jonny's Whoaa Hin and his Waa Hin
very good very good Spot on J
Thanks mate glad you enjoyed it
When I arrived here 8 years ago, stayed in hotel for about 7 , 8 months. Girl ran it for her Bangkok family. Highly educated, electrical engineer in University. Hi-so family, big house, with maid. Other siblings went to Switzerland, Europe universities. She assured me it was pronounced Wa Hin. Said there was a Wa hin rock. Anyhow, I call it Wa Hooa Hin. Everybody recognizes that.
Hua Hin , Head Rock.
When you vocalise the thai vowel 'ua' you naturally create a 'w' sound when transitioning from the 'u' part to the 'a' part. So when someone says Hua really fast, especially with a very short 'u' part, it could easily be misheard as 'hwa hin', hence the confusion.
That was my take on it as well. The H is soft, almost like a soft puff of air through slightly pursed lips before the UA. I don't pay much attention unless it becomes a point of order, then I enunciate more clearly.
Same amateur method for English with the wife. Break it down and once she gets the parts, then speed up and say it all at once. Unless there's an L or an R involved. LOL. That takes more effort and rarely sticks.
She is pretty.
I have a million dollar question for Jonny...
Hua means head in Thai and hin means Stone or Rock in Thai
😂 that’s correct
Ice is very nice 😊
I thought that's how you pronounced it like ICE said but that other way i noticed it too so it's Hua Hin with a H not the Y in Hua Hin always knew that very good i know that's right
The same in Pattaya foreigners keep pronouncing Petia 😅
When I visited Hua Hin in 1985 I could have sworn that the the locals pronounced it "Haw Han".
She says it a different way to you Jonny…..
It’s obvious my Australian accent you are hearing 🤣🇦🇺🦘
Som and Title would know how to pronounce Hua Hin. properly AND you as having been there a long time
😂
HOU HA INN ty Jonny and Ice for this video
Hello Jonny! In English the vocals are pronounced as: a = "ei", (as in "day"), e = "i" (as in "he or she"), i = "ai" (as in "I or by"), o = "ou" (as in "go"), u = "iu" (as in "you"). From that rule you never know how you should pronounce any new word. In some languages derived from Latin, vocals are pronounced straight as: a = a as in "tan", e as in "end", i as in "tin", o as in "doll", u as in "tunna". In Thai to say Hua Hin, the vocals are the same as in Spanish, Portuguese, Italian... Greetings from the Western Mediterranean sea shore.
Thanks Gabriel for the input & many thanks for watching :-)
@@jonnyasia Thanks for sharing, Jonny! 🙏
I would argue that native Finnish speakers, like me, have the easiest time with pronouncing Thai words the right way as they sound basically exactly the same. Finnish words are also read exactly like they are written.
@@fireoptions Perkele! 😝
Does she do corespondents, teach someone in the states
How do you say Pattaya?
All the Thai Locals (many) I talk to only say Whaaaaa Hin😁😁😁
34 years, it was always Hua Hin, where the heck Wha Hin came from beats me.
No wonder som was there Johnny.
Good video but the audio in the office was horrendous my man ! Yow ! ! Peace !
I worked with a lady named Hua. She doesn't pronounce it the way she does. She pronounced it with the W sound
Hi Allen, See there you go, many thanks for watching 🙂
Try asking her what her name is in English...I suspect it isn't "head" which is what the island is named for. Thus why it may be spelled the same the pronunciation isn't the same, very common in Thai and even English where one word can have different meanings depending on how it is applied.
Actually, she was Chinese not Thai
@@allenward3035There ya' go!
Sounds strange hearing a Thai speaking English with an American accent. Still excellent spoken English and would be no issues meeting up for teacher/parent day
Yeah definitely for a girl her age she definitely has a bright future ahead of her 👍😊
Its always been Hor Hin, thats how the thais pronounce it
Wow big papayas
Try again 😂
I love papayas
No its not
Wow good English, I mean not much accent....
And thanks for the Hua Hin debate...next one is Pattaya - hear all sorts of different pronunciations.
She’s just being nice to you Jonny. It’s Wa Hin not Whoa hin…..lol😂
here we go the debate continues 😂
they say you should learn to read and write first then the rest comes naturally
That’s what they say Geoff, reading and writing is much harder that you might think 😂
@@jonnyasia , I know , I don't understand the theory of it personally
@@jonnyasia , I'm going to give it a go when I move .. I tried that timekettle translator and it worked ok , I just said like ... one week ... 2 years .... 5 months .... January ect , just stuff I knew the answers to in Thai and it worked well , give it the big workout when over there 555555555
That is what Chuck did from "notime2bsad" channel. But according to his teacher, she won't teach him spoken Thai only traditional Thai. From what I gather when he explains it there is a tonal inflection which is not present in the mere spelling or writing. Thus why to most they think he speaks Thai very well, but to him he says he sounds like a toddler in Thai as he is doing the same as listening Thai to learn that part of it and he has been doing it for about 6 years....
@@repaid1ehh... written thai include the exact tonal sound in the word.
She has the studious librarian type of look…my weakness….Would like to schedule one on one classes with her next week …But it would be the type classes where there wouldn’t be much talking and the lights would be off…yum yum yummy..
Johhny, you are pronuncing Hua Hin much differently than Ice did . 😂
Learning Thai is tough for me due to dyslexia. That's why I use the Timekettle translator www.timekettle.co to communicate better. Thanks for watching! :-)
You don't miss a beat do ya mate 5555@@jonnyasia
Haha, nice plug Johhny
🤣@@Redcouriercat
Nice one jonny 😂
How about the correct way to say Pattaya?
Thats a excellent question Glen i will make a short video with Ice in the next few days. Legend thank you :-)
Bring back nam Jonny, absolute darling her
She’s left town bro, hasn’t been here for 1 or 2 years 😆
😢
Did she where in
Just joking. Love hua hin
.keep i trollin
Som you need to have Jonny propose to you in Thai
American accent nice
Its funny when you speak to other thais they say it how we are taught, like wah hin!
👍🦘
I think I need some lessons 😈😈😈
Best time to teach kids another language is when they start speaking their native language.
9:10,
It's a shame Ice studied in the USA to teach English. She should of studied in the UK. I hate the wrong way US people speak English. Sounds awful
I didn't think you could learn to speak English in America? 🤔 Like, it's like, you know like, I'm like, from like the UK like and we're like, not like saying like, like every other like word like, until I'm like, like I've no like idea like, what like Americans like are saying like? 😜 I believe "the" should be the most common word in English? It's certainly not "like".
Well in America it's not the proper Queen's English 😂
@@simonyee5524 like
pronounced : Who -R - Hin
And. Huewei cell phones? Are these huawei, or wawey? Big Chinese influences here.
This from the people who pronounce the word "no"... NOY!.. Hwa Hin. That's how it's pronounced... HWA HIN.
A pity she has a 'merican accent and not a real English one. Seems my pronunciation of Hua Hin is 100% *and* I can pronounce Pattaya!
Thai Ebonics Kaaaa!! Who-Ah-Hin.
Many thanks for the input :-)
