- This is the first part of my detailed building review about the LEGO 10302 Optimus Prime set! This is the true "mission impossible" set as I never thought it will become a reality, but Hasbro & LEGO surprised us and made it happen!

I cannot commend LEGO and Hasbro enough for releasing Optimus in his original G1 design
Although I've never watched the transformers cartoons and only seen the live action movies, this isn't the Optimus Prine that I know as such, but I still recognise how iconic this version is, can't wait to get one for myself
The live action movies are a crime against the original Transformers.

I have been loving the content lately. You use well known terminology while also including the definitions which is nice for new and old viewers. Great sets, interesting style that's unique but also simple and straightforward. Well done RacingBrick!

Right here is proof that practice makes perfect. Amazing video, lots of jumpcuts, nothing is boring, he has a good script (assuming he has one). He has come far in just the past few months.
A great set and bound to be a valuable collector favourite. A shame about the QC failures creeping into LEGO sets; well done for calling it out in your content.

I've never been a transformer fan..

Back in the early '80s in my Kindergarten days, I used to make this crazy deals: this one time, I traded three knockoff Hot Wheels for a genuine TAKARA TOMY Optimus Prime G1 with Trailer.
Which I still have to this day. The mother of the other kid was really pissed but... a deal is a deal.
EDIT: We called it "Commander" here by the way.
in japan he is known as Convoy and some other versions like Leo Convoy and Battle Convoy

THIS! This is one of the most awesome sets, that lego released in the last 3 years! I wasn't expecting that I will hate the DeLorean but love this Optimus Prime! :)
What I like most about it, is that it's G1 Optimus Prime, not the later one. I think it fits very well with Lego's audience. Maybe it is so good, because Hasbro is part of it xD
Since Lego's main audience for the bigger sets is around 30-40 Years old, this set combines two nostalgic things: Lego and old comics. And that's the reason why I don't understand why we get modern Bugattis, Porsches, Lambo's and Ferraris in the 1:8 scale field. I mean... the audience would love a Countach, an F40, etc. heck, even I would buy them- despite I don't like the 1:8 scale technic cars. :)

A very cool set indeed, I used to watch some milder versions of Transformers when I was young (you know how in the normal Transformers, there’s some scenes that might be too much for kids, might give them some nightmares?), but I can still appreciate this set! It’s really cool how the set not only captures Optimus very well, but Optimus also transforms! When I was younger, I dreamed about transforming Lego sets, now it’s a reality!
I hope Lego makes some (or all, if feasible!) of the other Transformers too! Also, Balaz, your name is spelled B-a-l-a-z, with an accent on the second “a”? And you’re also Hungarian, right? I never really got all these details in concrete form, just little hints here and there. 🤣😀

1:30 He is called Convoy in Japan. This is due to the figure's origin in the Japanese Takara (now Takara Tomy) toy line Diaclone, which Hasbro licenced from to take The Transformers worldwide.

Yoo I think I had a couple Kre-o sets as a kid when they made transformers.
It will be better if they added at least the trailer with interior details with it too
My box doesn't have the Takara/Tomy markings on it.

6:36 : Do the *fingers fall appart* if the 1x3 plate is *removed* to allow them some more movement?
_I mean, for display purposes, not for leading a bedroom war against Decepticons._
They don't fall apart, can be separated if preferred by removing the 1x3 plate

This and the BTTF DeLorean have to be two of my favorite sets of all time
Great job covering the reference material. Also for pointing out most of the newer parts. Though looking forward to the second part the less said about the KreO release the better, though to be fair the truck mode is for the most part pretty solid/displayable for a movie variation. And as long time collector of Transformers the third one you had peaking out is subjectively probably one of the worst variations of Optimus ever released. Won't spoil for anyone which it is, but it had me wanting to throw it at a wall in both modes.
I'm still building mine my instruction Manuel came in a cardboard sleeve which is different to your polythene. I found the instructions hard to follow building the dark blue leg sections. Other than that it's a great build 👌.

I was filming and taking notes as well so cannot really tell, but bougt it yesterday so didn't take that much time :)
@@RacingBrick i just finished building it. the jetpack won't fit on my optimus prime because of the back thing sticking out.
@@richardu5106 I suggest to go backwards in the instructions and check what's different in your build, it has to fit

The set looks amazing, but the box for mine I received had two bag # 1’s and no bag # 2… heartbroken I need to wait for the missing items before I can build it.
At 9:12 was that the Transformers Alternator Optimus Prime that turns into a Dodge SRT-10 👀
Could we use power functions or other motors in this Optimus Prime Lego set to make it motorised ?!

Could you compare it with the Kreo set? I had that set, and as far as I remember, it looked and built great! Especially, at a fraction of the price! Granted, it didn't actually transform like this Lego set.

@@kapilkirpekar3433 it's a really nice book, but it sold out super quickly so I don't think it is worth the premium price on eBay. You might want to wait and see if LEGO responds to the demand with another release, but it might not happen.

Love the videos... keep making them for us! Quick question... Why do some sets come with multiple bags numbered the same? For instance two number 1 bags.... why not just continue the numbering seq? I ask for my son because he always gets so frustrated when Lego does this. Thank you in advance
I assume it depends on the number of phases and the parts required in each of them, and also the age rating. There are sets that have more building phases and only single bags for each, but some might have more parts used in one phase so those come in multiple bags.

Multiple bags with the same number means they are all grouped together so you should only open them first. Then move into the next number

I'm 100% sure they tried it, but I guess it was abandoned for stability reasons
So how long was the build? It took me about 12 hours with breaks to rest my arthritic fingers.
As I am building, filming and taking notes I usually don't measure it, but I think it was done in one evening, surprisingly quick build.
Next thing you know, a beyblade set comes out, knowing the tt and hasbro collabs

I can only guess it might not be as appealing compared to the actual Optimus and transformer toys I grew up with in the 80s. I'm a massive Lego fan and original transformers but this just doesn't excite me for the money for some reason. Where as the Delorean I finally managed to get one the other day quick enough before they had gone again and loved soon as I seen it. I could be completely off, it's just what my thoughts were on it. Rather have the original transformers
I also had the legs wrong... Maby thats also an error in the manual...

Optimus Prime is actually called "Convoy" (コンボイ) in Japanese, but since there is no Japanese text on the box, I presume it's the reason why the name is excluded
Never have I been so excited for an official LEGO set. Are you planning to MOD the knees to make it bendable?
