- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2019
- In today's Episode, Scoop Makhathini, DJ Vigilante, Ms Cosmo and DJ Speedsta are jumping right into it and talking about Durban artists and their disconnect to the main stream, and they only flourish when they come to Jo'burg.
Lets talk! #POPcast
Zakwe and duncan still holding it down for durban and wacthout for beast and musiholiq🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
It's tribalism, y'all afraid to say it. I am a Zulu guy from deep rural areas in KZN, I've been to Durban over 2 years & I've been to Joburg over 4 years now & I can tell you straight it's tribalism, my people don't like anybody but themselves.
Haibo you're saying they don't last in this industry bcz of tribalism? Nooo bafo kanjani?
I understand your point. It needs a an entire video all on itself.
@@mvuselelomvuseh1569 you've missed my whole damn point now you putting words on my mouth.
@@everythingmalachi y'all can pretend as much as y'all want but this country is not only divided racial but also into tribes, I am a proud Zulu man but I know my people are arrogant asf.
The entertainment industry is slowly becoming decentralized therefore location lottery is slowly dying, and that's a good thing. 👌
ALSO:
Joburg isn't the reason why outsiders fail,
Outsiders fail because they only start taking their brand seriously when they get there. They only start learning how to build and respect relationships when they move that side, but THAT'S TOO LATE at that point ⌚⌚
e.g
You can't disrespect OGs from your hometown and seek validation from the OGs in Joburg, that is flawed in so many ways
you need to respect the protocol in your hometown first, that way if you don't make it on a national scale you'll still have a meaningful legacy.
ANOTHER THING:
Big artists only wanna play with you if you already have a community around your content (a community thats is inaccessible to them), which brings me back to an earlier point that i made
BUILD IN YOUR IMMEDIATE ENVIRONMENT 1st, and foremost
OR
if you don't have an outward personality then build remotely, but either way, build and respect from the on set
Dope comment✌ for real
Yeah uyavakala there hey 👌
👏👏👏👏 I don't think anybody could have said it better.

I like this and great perspective actually.

Thank You Pop cast for makin your videos in a way thats easy for people who struggle with data to watch it.
I love this show and I enjoy your commentary a lot❤️... Vigi has my heart pounding for real 😍😍😍
I appreciate how the guys and Noni are open to critique and actually take input from their audience. Thank you to the whole team (including the *sound guy)
FACTS!!!
This has been the most insightful POPcast episode. FACTS!!
"you are big in Durban ,I'm big in South Africa" DJ Speedsta that's a jab right there😂
Nah you took it out of context bro. There’s no jabs there, his just telling facts, if you big in JHB that’s means everyone in SA knows you
Sxova dee Live I felt that 😂😂🔥
Lmaoo it's true tho bro
I don’t agree with it cause Durban is the capital of entertainment. Afro pushed boundaries from Durban
But the conversation is about Hip Hop not House, Gqom or DBN Kwaito.
Y'all better watch out for PE artist and the music scene here is crazy. We're coming for ya
Hi, lubabalo. It's nice to see you
I really enjoy these POPcasts ❤👏
THANK YOU JEROME FOR THE SOUND 🙏🏽🔥WE APPRECIATE GROWTH!
Great sound. I think Vigi wasn’t given enough opportunity to talk on this part. Maybe he will talk more on another parts, I always look forward to his insights and opinions.
I am glad nothing much was said about the “Durban Conference” no names were mentioned because this was going to be taken out of context on the other social media platforms.
Great show. I love the sound, keep the venue 😂
I’ve liked every single episode but this one. The reason for that is because you guys are withholding information from us. We fell in love with this channel because we saw an opportunity to gain insight into the music industry. I was excited to learn about the politics in Durban. But on this episode we could see that you guys deliberately withheld material information from us.
Especially after the Dj Tira comment from Speedsta.
There’s a lot of Tira information they hiding. When Cassper has the fill up campaign at Moses mabhida, a lot of shit happened there that no one has the guts to speak of
SA Hip Hop Loud! I hear & will raise it up
Eish i feel like if banothetha izakuxabanisa u know.
They're not trying to be banned from eThekweni this December 🤣🤣🤣
Ahh, the sound is Crisp, hallelujah👌
Very insightful episode, I so wish Eastern Cape based hip hop artists can also can be great to reach Jo’burgs ears but hey kubi with artists this side.
I can't believe I am this show for free. Loool thanks for giving back to a community.

Really enjoyed this episode
I love how Vigi always bring up these new cats we haven't seen or heard. Really dope
We needed more content on this video. More time y'all 😆😆.
dope dope, its a great thing this was highlighted as we work on growing mpumalanga and set a proper structure
and create something
What people often forget is 98% of artists who are in Johannesburg are not from Johannesburg especially the big ones.
Don't be a housewife be a powerwoman 👐👌 ✔✔
Noted!
Insightful information yow and i do feel yall, Joburg is this hub of futuristic creativity so your heads gata be in the game
Ayt today I subscribe, nice work lads
Great episode guys, I enjoyed it, especially because yall did not smoke haha niyatshaya man HEY!
On the real nice topic!
Thouroughly enjoyed this one. Very important debate.
EISH kuba ngaske ingapheli. love what you do guys. Dimplez, khazosibulisa mfondin
I've read that Book, its by Nick Mutzukis, He is or still was a Director and a Lecturer at the Academy of Sound Engineering right next to SABC (Auckland Park) and I'm not sure if he's still a Chairman at Capasso. That book is a must read for artists, producers, managers and small recording labels. What I like about that book is the case studies, don't sleep on that book.
Eager To Win thank you
I'm glad you don't have adverts. Anyway great episode
"Yet". They don't have adverts yet
S/O to Vigi for the game. I'm definitely getting that book
We're coming, Speedsta. My bros are cooking fire!
mmmmm interesting. nice set up as well.
SCOOP MUST TELL US WHAT HAPPENED TO BOYS 'N BUCKZ
This Topic needs part 2 I really loved it and another thing la Durban bavelelana bodwa uma bekubona unzima they just shut doors for coz they think u gonna claim their territory
Dope setup
Dope show
I love the channel,I would also like you to discuss upcoming artists on how to make it to the mainstream, radio plays and registering the music and stop spamming mainstream artists with their links at Twitter and all that, how to submit their music
Informative
Dj Speedsta is a whole mood hleng.
True thou.... The guy's don't wanna support outside of Durban that's the problem. That's why they imitated the "Fill up"... The respect I give them is that they support each even in the taxi ranks that's how it is however you don't grow as an artist. This Durban conference mess up the artists craft... We such conversations with no fear or favour. Loved the show. Yea Speedsta keep Vaal on map👊🏼
It's not only about not making it in joburg. But it's all up to the Dj’s, in as much as we try as upcoming artists to push ourselves. I always feel the Dj’s hold the key to make that happen
98% percent of the music they play/promote in the club(or anywhere they playing) is international music. People listen to what their given , hip hop dj's (or any other dj) have the power to set a trend. And help push our local upcoming artists
3:35 ishhuuuu🔥😂😂🚑 scoop with the BARS
Best hip-hop podcasts
Because you guys clearly read your comments , i would love to give a shout out to SCOOP MAKHATINI. you have been a great inspiration to me as a person , your striking individuality has motivated me greatly and i thank you for being you
DJ Vigi please read it till the end its one of the best books ive ever read and it really helped me to decide to be independent but also utelize the distribution deals out there and i learnt about all of them in the book (RouteNote, Tunecore, Soundcloud etc.) It also has template contracts at the back to give an overview of how industry contracts are structured...
Durban hip hop artists do not really need to move to joburg to get recognition or whatever,
guys just need to put in more work, and trust me durban is very woke on music and supports it's artists
Big Ups
Lets do this!!!!
only problem with Durban is TIRA
Lungani Zondi qhaa !😂😂😂
@@nokuthulazwane3600 Loool Tira runs everything...if ungazwani naye uba nenkinga...
Happy Women's Month to the ladies out there.
Thanks @Speedsta i think that's the truth i needed to hear as a House Music Producer.
i like the Honesty about the culture, even Afrikaans music is far away from us(even though its trash but they winning as a culture ).
#QuincyDaPres
Profound Corner Music
Did you just say Afrikaans music is trash? Or do you only listen to Steve Hofmeyr?
Noni looking dapper😍🔥
GOLD AND BLACK IS HERE
great show today guys, i believe there is some truth in the conference being referred by vigi
Thabani Dube please share with us
Vigi You need to have yo own Channel on RUclips reading that book and advising us. That would be dope for the culture.
Waddup Scoop | iBhayi 4 Ever
Kunini ndibuza u Scoop about a book I can read for SA music industry... I'm so getting that book
Unfortunately when it comes to Hip Hop in Durban our media don't want to take risk in breaking the songs and there are very limited platforms for up and coming artist that showcase their skills.
Hi, let me start of by saying MsCosmo you were not only beautiful today but you sounded great too ;) Happy Women's month . My question to everyone is: How can an artist that does not make Hip Hop or Qqom music breakthrough in our current industry . I ask this because it has become very clear to me that the gate keepers( dj's , Presenters ,AnR etc) are in many cases associated with these particular genre's as is seen in the members of your panel. It almost seems as though rnb singers need to change their sound to fit in. Radios don't play our songs and brands don't invest in our music that much. It would be nice to see people represent us a bit more. I hope I'm not voicing my frustrations in the wrong place ( this is a HipHop show after all). I just think we need to try focus less on growing one sector and grow the industry as a whole to prevent the kids from thinking that the only way we can succeed is to become a rapper or sing on house music.
Couldnt have written it better myself👌
Vigi 😂🤣🤣 “ we’ll only come when it’s Durban July “
nje!!!! if u big in jozi you big in SA.
Ola Ta Scoop ✌️, sik'jongile eBhayi🤣
We happy there's no smoking today.
EY ..is Cosmo Xhosa... 😂😂 sis,wam ☝️☝️☝️🙏
The, "He is only big in Gauteng chat" has left the room 🤷🏽♂️
DJ vigi forgot to say Ms Cosmo looks beautiful in this episode.. Ms Cosmo you look lovely..
Siphiwe Nhlapo LMAO
BIG UP to MS COSMO "I always play Durban guys"
Kindly discuss what is really difficult for guys such as MT, Micky M, Chippa M, Siya Shezi and etc to be mainstream artists such as the likes of abo Pro, Jabba, Tuks with Venac. I have been waiting for their glory day since the times of the full Clip with Siz n Scoop.
Love
Nothing wrong with being a housewife though 🤷🏽♀️
There's everything wrong with an adult human being handing over the responsibility of taking care of themselves to another adult. It may be socially acceptable but it's still nothing to be proud of. No matter how many men out there actually want or don't mind taking care of you, the stage of finally being able to take full care of yourself should be a part of all human beings' life journey. Even in animals, the growth into adulthood involves being able to sustain themselves.
I think you guys should go and do more research about this Durban topic it important for the growth of the culture you could contact guys like sphetecular and naves , duncan and zakwe I think those could give u more insight and maybe we could have solution thank you
I think the whole Afrotainment thing is what is causing that chasm between the Durban industry and The Jozi Industry. I mean Tira is the only link to the Durban scene, and he is the only one who really mingles with all the Jozi cliques; the fact that he has the Durban industry by the balls makes him a Kingmaker wherever he goes.
Strongly agree, even our hiphop Djs go to him for clout! You will go to a hiphop event ubone seku ngena ushimora
Sphiwe Dimane Garbage I tell you, this thing of people feeling obliged and that they own the industry must come to an end, we need technology to disrupt this nonsense!!!!
ayi yáll just love blaming Tira...Afro is like Kalawa, there was a time when every hot kwaito song that came out in Jozi was realesed under Kalawa...Even black coffeez 1'st & 2nd solo albums were released under Kalawa
Mxo Ntombz you’re missing the point, I don’t know if it’s intentionally or if you don’t understand English, the point here is not the hot artists he has, the point here is the mafia like hold he has on Durban and it’s music industry
@@arthurmahlangu4851 how are Tiraz business ethics & moves different to that of Kalawa Jazmee?
Another thing you guys are also forgetting is that most of the Artists that are in Jozi, they not from joburg. Johannesburg is like the Hollywood of South Africa, so that’s why alotta Artists move to JHB coz that’s where the platform is in order to blow up but them staying in JHB for 3-4 years doesn’t mean they from JHB.
Y'all finally changed clothes, shout out.
Remember what they did to Cassper last year. I like what Speedy said about tham artists being big in their provinces only. Remember what happened with Cass last year when our favourite DJ got pissed that he never got the Stadium for free while Cass was getting it for free. He forgot that He fills the Stadium with people from Durban while Cass had people coming out of the province bringing money in, not only by entering the event but also through booking accommodations and using of transportation around Durban. Cass brought money in from outside the Province while bi Tira recycle Durban money. Durban people are talented and they have that mentality that they are better than the industry.
The biggest problem with the Durban scene and the artists not being able to sustain themselves over a period of time, is TIRA! He blocks people that are not with him. He hates competition, and unfortunately he has the connections that make everything either make you pop or drop!
sikujongile Grootman eBHAYI@SCOOPMAKHATHINI S/O to @Ms Cosmo we waiting for you on the 1st Sept
Even though Bra Scoop agrees with Speedsta I think what Speedsta is saying undermines what he and a lot of other people say they'd like to see happening in the game and that is being able to build bridges across all demographics.Rappers that are big in the United States are big in the whole world and according to Speedsta's logic it wouldn't make sense for them to book anyone from SA.Regardless of where you come from or how big you are in my space talent is talent bro and if aperson deserves a shot then give it.I'm sure you were able to go beyond Vaal because someone gave you a shot.Nice episode, more life.
kabelo alam speedsta should have pushed the boy though
@@sekhukhunekgopotso3953 My point exactly bro.
I've been asking for this type topic.... but i wanted it to be on every other city in SA ... n how to grow the culture of being in ur home city
Vigi true about the promoters thing that’s the problem ey
the durban sound is on soundcloud
shouts out to pop cast shouts outs USANELE SLICE FEDERICO
There is this kind of confusion or conflict between these two cities, its not only in Hip Hop even in Poetry we have this. Joburg Poets kinda shut doors for Durban poets, or if they open the doors for them, they do it just so they can play their unfair game of letting lame Joburg poets win slams over great Durban poets. Its everywhere bro! Its sick but I personally love how Durban holds their own down. What they do is unique, they have different kind of approach to the game and also they understand that their story is different and they dont wanna change it they wanna keep it that way and teach other Durban peeps to appreciate it as it is. Also people like Sjava from Bergville show us that hey, you can be from somewhere like Bergville , with weird fashion sense and all, be in Joburg but still maintain your original identity! Its a rare skill that Sjava has and I hope Joburg doesnt change him ever!
Loki Is future of Durban hip hop !
Did they throw shade to a certain miss Ndamase in the beginning?
Bhayi bro 😂😂😂😂
Y’all should add music to the show
No.....
You're more likely to be nicer to a visitor, than someone moving into your house. True
Vigi didnt get a chance to say much today coz nimngena emlomeni, but he made the best contribution. I believe that conference def happened. Sounds just about Durbanish🤣🤣🤣 Anyway, if yall had let Vigi speak more he would’ve gotten a chance to tell Miss Cosmo how bomb she looks😍❤️
I'm from durban and it's very hard to adjust to the joburg life
why is that? I'm also a Durban guy who couldn't last more than a year and a half in Joburg.
For me I experienced alot of tribalism
@@luyandakeswa8037 Really? For me, I'd say it was a different environment. Don't like busy places

ayeah Speedstar you're disrepecting Durban cats
😂😂😂 Vigi is finishing me ai the North is wrong.
With Durban booking local DJ's that's something that have been boadering me on why lineups of Artists in Events you see Durban Artists only whilst in Joburg and Estern Cape you'd see Artists from all over the country, like Beach Fest hosted by Gagasi FM that features only Durban Artists. This goes to the withdrawal of Ethekwini Municipality to sponsor Fill-Up Mabhida.
Please cover this question next episode: Why haven't we had any breakthrough artist ever since Nasty C and Emtee ????
