If I should die , think only this of me That there's some corner of a foreign field That is forever England The Soldier - Rupert Brooke Nimrod always reminds me of this poem by Rupert Brooke it is played at the Cenotaph in London every year on Rememberance Sunday .
This tempo is PERFECT.... allowing for the FULL DEVELOPMENT of the GLORIOUS sound that Elgar brings to us. So, we can emmerse ourselves with Sir Edward in the audible canvas that he paints for us !!!!
I am in the sunset years of my life. When my time finally arrives, I want to cross the veil into the spirit world with the sounds of this beautiful and triumphant piece, played by this astounding and talented musician as the backdrop. Gives me chills just thinking about this musical statement of having survived the challenges of mortality and coming to the end in glory and praise to the Lord for his mercy!
I am playing it tomorrow for the funeral of my friend’s mom. I was a little concerned it’s too “big,” but it gives me chills every time I listen to it.
Elgar was without doubt a master of quintessentially English music. No matter the complexity of the piece you always appear to be enjoying your playing Jonathan, thank you for your work in bringing us these wonderful videos.
Such a powerful piece on the day of Queen Elizabeth’s funeral. Thank you so much Jonathan for sharing this with us all at such a sad time. Beautifully played. Thanks to Tom too for sound and vision. God bless you both.
Stop making me cry 😂 Ok, carry on! My life changed when I found this channel! I work in IT and don’t do social media but RUclips for this is a life changing thing! You get first class performances for free but I have donated and will do so in the future.❤
The perfect day and time to have released your version of this beautiful composition: the day of Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral and internment. As an American I can only feel so much pride that our birth as a country came from Great Britain. As an American I feel a great sorrow for the loss that the world has suffered in loosing such a great lady. Seeing her coffin lowered into the vault while listening to your majestic interpretation of the Enigma Variation was a very emotional moment for me. With a great amount of gratitude for sharing your talent, Sally Z
@@arobotwithepilepsie6053 Is that a problem? Yes, I’m American (just so you’re not confused), and no I’m not a vegan. Not even a vegetarian. I was born and raised on a ranch in Texas.
Thank you, Johnathan and Tom, for such poignant piece of music on this sad but momentous day. My brother and I chose this for our Mum's funeral almost four years ago. Mum was born when Princess Elizabeth was 6 months old.
Well done Sir! This is the best rendition I have heard to date! You express the bass notes perfectly and play this piece with the power the composer intended!!
Farewelling Queen Elizabeth II in our own corners. As a Taiwanese in New Zealand, thank you Johnathan for releasing this video on this very day. God bless :)
Thank you both for uploading this today. I often find myself getting emotional when hearing this played, never more so than today. A beautiful tribute, played with feeling. Again, thank you both. xx
Hallo!! Wow such a perfect piece from Elgar, This on the funeral from Queen Elizabeth Just perfect!!! Seeing her coffin with flowers from her own garden raelly moving and cold shivers. Thank you very much! With Love from the Netherlands.
Well done, Jonathan. This piece feels like it wants to do more, be larger, and then it was! I love it. Thanks to Tom also. I watched nearly every minute of the proceedings today, but what really stuck with me was when they removed her crown.
He plays this at the tempo I prefer. He doesn't rush through the pause points toward the end, losing the dramatic effect--something which drives me nuts on many recordings of this. This is a piece I think you can go Leonard Bernstein on--even take some license and hold it a beat & a half longer on the final crescendo.
Yes Enigma variations was not particulars religious the music is very expressive with a building to full or almost full organ then softening to the end…. I was practicing it one day while my friend and neighbour suggested it was sad! Yes it is emotional as organ music should be! Let it grab you!
@@skycamnewzealand7966 Just speaking up for others like myself who were missing the vibe. This was an unusual experience for me, as I think it's only the 2nd piece he's performed in all the years I've been listening, that didn't sit with me. Don't fret, it doesn't happen often.
@@alanatolstad4824 Just wondering if there were others who did feel the same as you. Maybe they could have chimed in if they were of the same opinion. Not to worry. We can agree I'm sure that the music the Scott Brothers bring to us really is a great blessing to us. 🙂

Simply brilliant
Nimrod is one of my favourite pieces ever and you have certainly done it justice !
Will be played at my funeral as coffin leaves the chapel. It is a pity that I will not be there in person to hear it!
That is the "reality" of death.
Appropriate music for this day. 👑💐🙏❤️🕊✝️✨

You managed to only remind everyone twice that you are american. Are you by chance a vegan also?
Yes.

Nice to know you recognise you're roots, we may have our differences but so much in common.
Thank you. Perfect timing for a perfect rendition of a perfect tune. Nimrod is solemn, and yet so hopeful.
The most inspired rendition of this poignant lament. Thank you for sharing this today. 💔💐👑💐🎹🎶
It wasn't written as a lament though, rather a celebration of a friendship.
Thank you Jonathan and Tom. As always, you hit the right note and tone on such a powerfully charged day. Thank you.
Most beautiful and extremely appropriate for this sad day. A great choice.
I just wish I could have heard you perform this at Westminster Abbey today.
Respectful, wistful, majestic, uplifting…surely Her late Royal Highness would have been pleased.

The best part of this piece is from 4:15 to the end....but in particular... 4:26 onward.

This was played at Agatha Christie's funeral.
I like this rendition but IMHO, it needs to be performed on a large romantic organ. This organ is classically voiced. How about the Wanamaker organ?
Sorry folks, this version didn't do it for me.
It's hard to beat his version in Taiwan!
I’m finding it hard to understand why you would bother to leave a comment like this. It’s not necessary. Just move on to something you you enjoy. 😊

EVERY time I hear this the waterworks turn on. Same goes for Handel's Zadoc the Priest.
