I have been listening to this piece of music for 70 years now, and I believe this is the best version I have ever heard. The depth of expression especially from the strings was superb, and I could not fault anything at all. Sublimely majestic, moving, the pace exactly on point especially with the unhurried Nimrod, with its crescendos never failing to evoke emotion. Well done
I am in total agreement with your comments. I first heard the Enigma Variations when I was about 5 years old in 1946. My father was a church organist and musician who left me with a love of Elgar, Brahms and many other composers . I have watched this particular performance many times and it never fails to move me. a wonderful orchestra and superb performers. Even the filming is excellent and I can almost imagine I am actually sitting in that audience.
I totally agree - just wonderful. And consider also the significance of one of the most evocative pieces of English music being performed by a Polish Orchestra, in Warsaw, in the 21st century.
Elgar must have loved Jaeger dearly. This is full of love, beauty, passion and all the lovely emotions you can think of. God rest Elgars wonderful soul.
For me this is the sound of living to experience the sunrise after I have lost everything that made the sunrise worth living for. I'm at a loss for words to describe the stunning beauty of this performance. The players are all so deep into making this the finest interpretation of the Enigma Variations. I've played this numerous times, and often I'll begin to play it as background music while I'm working, but then find myself viewing it instead, because the filming is so "in tune" with the amazing music and performances. Thank you, Warsaw Philharmonic, for not just the heavenly playing of this piece, but for making it available for everyone to enjoy. Just stunning. (I wish there was a recording of this performance!!)
Oh, the beautiful melancholy of this masterpiece! It transports us, as it were, to a different world, another time, when gallantry and nobility were paramount and honesty and virtue were rewarded, even though hearts were breaking. I love it so.
For the 80th anniversary of D-Day. In remembrance of all whom have fallen and all who participated in the campaign and are no longer with us. Thank you for your service.
I find myself watching this in its entirety over and over. I never knew the Warsaw Philharmonic was so good. I wish I could but Blu-Ray videos of their performances but I’m not seeing any. What a discovery for me.
This is the version I return to time and time again for both its musical and video quality. Today, while listening to/watching this performance one more time, I remembered the recent passing of the much beloved Queen Elizabeth II, and the music, especially the "Nimrod" variation, seemed to take on extra layers of meaning, and I was deeply touched, again. If you know someone who has not listened to (or watched) this performance, I highly recommend that you introduce this version to him/her.

A fine performance. To date I thought perhaps only the British could understand Elgar. But this is Polish soul and artistry. a truly wonderful interpretation of a fantastic piece of composition.
I've now listened to this RUclips recording a number of times and feel I must thank you once again. I attended the Proms in London throughout the sixties and early seventies hearing several versions of this (ie Boult!). But, as I come back to this Warsaw recording, time and time again I feel this is the BEST recording I have ever heard. Such finesse, balance, feeling and... soul. The conductor's name is not one I can pronounce :) but I will remember it! Accept once again my thanks for a truly wonderful interpretation of a great piece of British music.
I am an American and it took me a while to understand this work. But I agree that this is the performance is the one I most want to listen to. Music is indeed universal, after all, we all love Shakespeare. (And Monty Python).
I notice that I commented on this two years ago . It’s still wonderful and I selected this recording above all others because I knew that the Polish people would understand Elgar . I live on the Malvern Hills , near to Elgar’s birthplace and many other places that inspired his music , and I am aware daily of this connection.
Timeless music. Well done by Warsaw orchestra. Thank you Elgar for creating such beautiful music. I am 39 I have been listening to Elgar since my early 20s.
What a magnificent rendition of this Enigma Variations written by Elgar! Who better to perform this than Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra by one of my favourite Conductor the ever green Jacek Kaspszyk!. Every single string or wind instruments do a amazing job and that's exactly what makes Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra outstanding. I have been to Krakow several times and not once have I missed a Classical concert when I am there! Thank you Poland for giving the world such remarkable musicians and music from Chopin to Ida Haendel and more! Your musical heritage is for all to see! You as a nation should be proud you have given the world and me such Joy by your incredible musical journey to bring Peace, Tranquility and Serenity to millions the world over! Love and greetings from Denmark.
Elgar is very precious: Has sentiment -- but he's not sentimental; Has Drama -- but he avoids the caustic, corrupting melodrama. His work is just goodness. And this orchestra offers a fine performance. Thank you.
Special congratulations to these three musicians ladies: Concertino, first viola and first oboe. Love them!!!! 😘 😘 😘 Enjoying a lot again the excellent performance.
I now forget how many times I've listened to this magnificent performance. Having a wide selection of most of Beethoven's Mozart's Dvorak's Chopin and many other composers, for some reason I love Enigma Variations. Maybe it is because of this performance by the Warsaw Philharmonic. I now know the faces of so many performers... noble people. Dedicated to music. Now five years ago. Every time I hear it and see it I wonder how those people are managing. Is Jacek Kasprzyk still there? The others? I wish you all well.
Astonishing. Breathtakingly. Perfect. How many recordings of this have I in my collection and none... none... compare to this. Sweeping, majestic, haunting and poetic... Sir Edward would be proud and pleased. And, there were actually empty seats in the hall for this. How many of us would have like to have filled them. Bravo!
The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Europe’s finest orchestra, delivers an unsurpassed performance of one of Elgar’s best-known works. There is also none better than maestro Jacek Kaspszyk.
Nimrod does just that. Nimrod allows you to stand on the very precipice of all emotions that drive us to love.💘 . When the brass and drum begin, it takes you to a place we all seek but rarely ever find,. Home
Ahhhh..... so beautifully done! Sending huge love and respect from central Florida. Especially appreciate this magnificent work while slogging through the corona virus lock down in May, 2020.
Thank you for a wonderful performance by a first-rate orchestra of a piece with extraordinary emotional range and intensity. When I wasn't weeping at its unbearable melancholy, I was spellbound by its agility of movement between skittishness, bombast and lyrical beauty. But always that return to melancholy...
Absolutely staggered by this live performance. Profoundly moving. The sheer beauty and depth were incredible. I remained stoically British stiff-upper-lipped until Nimrod and then the dam broke. From the bottom of my heart - thank you.
That cello solo intro in Var. XII (andante) really touches the most intimate chord of anyone who listen to this Elgar's masterpiece. This work by the English composer and its interpretation here by Filharmonia Narodowa are utterly moving. Congratulations and thank you for sharing the performance!

Unarguably the finest performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations I have ever heard. Moves me to tears every time I hear it. Very good that also it was permitted to finish without the audience immediately clapping the well deserved applause. Many thanks to all in the orchestra.
A wonderful performance from start to finish. Nimrod was devastating in its beauty and climax, but everything else about the performance was top-notch as well. Masterfully done.
This is one orchestra I really would like to attend at a live performance . Probably my favourite out of many others. This performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations is certainly at top of my music tree.

Bravo, each and everyone! • The audio is amazing, (with a good set of speakers!) • Maestro Kaspszyk draws the required emotion from each and everyone of the players and their instruments, and from the entire room, for that matter! • The filming is impeccable • Even the lighting is clear, bright and ample! • The performers' stage presence and mannerisms are pristine! Very professional! • The room is absolutely beautiful, and, I'm sure it sounds just as good as it looks! • Even the audience remains relatively 'polite' throughout! An immense joy to watch and listen time and time again! Bravo! And, Thank You to all involved to make this presentation possible!
I was a Tympanist in an award winning band in HS. In 1964 to 7, we produced 15 professional classical and Jazz musicians. I know them all. As a time keeper, feeling each pulse of the beat is extra hard. If you add a Parlando or Rubato Parlando to make a phrase speak, as a timekeeper you simply hope you don't have a part or your part is to bring everyone back to the beat. When I watched these musicians waiting as a large group for the last possible moment in the Parlando or Rubato Parlando sections, I knew instantly how good this orchestra is. To value playing as one is to value the emotion above all else. And life is hard. It is hard to be in sync with everyone else on every performance. Why orchestra musicians need a steady gig with a living wage. You can't be unduly stressed out and play like that. I know from the very competent but emotionally thin performances of the constantly disappearing and reappearing Detroit Symphony with one of the greatest halls (Orchestra Hall) and one of the most unreliable donor bases.
Absolutely stunning and also takes the breath away, nimrod just flattens me and leaves me in a heap wishing I could go back and time and just be with them all.

I lived in Poland for seven years and came to love the country. The Polish soul is a very old one. I saw evidence of it many, many times.

Ein wunderbares Orchester und ein toller Dirigent.
Timeless music. Well done by Warsaw orchestra. Thank you Elgar for creating such beautiful music. I am 39 I have been listening to Elgar since my early 20s.
Amazing sound performance and conducting. The conductor received an Elgar award. So outstanding, I listen to it over and over r
excellent magical ❤
It is rich with talents and glorious in performance!
Now on the lighter side you have given a teenager of enormous talent to the tennis world by the name Swiatek! You as a nation should be proud you have given the world and me such Joy by your incredible musical journey to bring Peace, Tranquility and Serenity to millions the world over! Love and greetings from Denmark.
Your Nimrod rendition is so beautiful. Tears in my eyes.
Elgar is very precious: Has sentiment -- but he's not sentimental; Has Drama -- but he avoids the caustic, corrupting melodrama. His work is just goodness. And this orchestra offers a fine performance. Thank you.
Variation XII (Andante) "B.G.N." is very touching. The cello solo is softly coming to us from heaven.
No doubt Warsaw has the best philharmonic orchestra, all of your interpretations are masterpiece. Thank you for sharing these with us.
Special congratulations to these three musicians ladies: Concertino, first viola and first oboe. Love them!!!! 😘 😘 😘
Enjoying a lot again the excellent performance.
Nimrod was played at my grandmother's funeral, absolutely beautiful piece and reminds me of her.
Everyone talks about the nimrod but I think the first variation does deserve its fair recognition and applause
and the eighth
Благодарю! Я влюбилась в эту музыку! Исполнение шикарное, невозможно оторваться!
I close my eyes and let this music lift my spirits. This piece, and its exquisite performance, is a perfect reminder of the power of music.
Bravo!
Yes! I wish I could have been there!! The word "perfect" is often used loosely, but you are spot on. This performance is perfect.
Grandiosa orchestra, musica divina, direttore Super ❤😊
😍
The Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Europe’s finest orchestra, delivers an unsurpassed performance of one of Elgar’s best-known works. There is also none better than maestro Jacek Kaspszyk.
Exquisite performance. Nimrod had me in tears.
As it should!
Nimrod does just that. Nimrod allows you to stand on the very precipice of all emotions that drive us to love.💘 . When the brass and drum begin, it takes you to a place we all seek but rarely ever find,. Home
Indeed.
@@lindar1043 Beautifully and perfectly expressed.
it always does. I miss my father who educated me with this masterpice.
Bellissima musica. Orchestra stupenda. Grazie 💚. Questo è il lato più bello della tecnologia 😊

Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra
Ahhhh..... so beautifully done!
I think the Poles have cracked the Enigma code
:)
That cello solo intro in Var. XII (andante) really touches the most intimate chord of anyone who listen to this Elgar's masterpiece. This work by the English composer and its interpretation here by Filharmonia Narodowa are utterly moving. Congratulations and thank you for sharing the performance!
The best performance I ever heard from this Enigma Variations, congragulations.v
The best version I ever heard, congrats Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, Jacek Kaspszyk
The tempo for NIMROD is stupendous... able to "milk" all of the depth Elgar has to offer.
Of all the versions I have heard, this is easily the finest. It's simply superb.
Truly the best performance of this musical piece I have ever listened to!
But how could we ever be disappointed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra and Jacek Kaspszyk?
A big thank-you to
Filharmonia Narodowa for the wonderful channel!
Unarguably the finest performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations I have ever heard. Moves me to tears every time I hear it. Very good that also it was permitted to finish without the audience immediately clapping the well deserved applause. Many thanks to all in the orchestra.
Wspaniały. Szkoda, że tam nie byłem.
Magnificent. I wish I could have been present.
Sir Edward Elgar certainly would be very happy with this wonderful version. Thanks a lot, my hand on my heart for you!!
The deepest truest Nimrod I have ever heard 👏 Congratulations 👏
A truly exceptional and sublime performance of Elgar’s masterpiece.
A wonderful performance from start to finish. Nimrod was devastating in its beauty and climax, but everything else about the performance was top-notch as well. Masterfully done.
You should all be very proud of yourselves, each piece was played to perfection. Bravo!
One of the most underrated orchestras in the world
This is one orchestra I really would like to attend at a live performance . Probably my favourite out of many others. This performance of Elgar's Enigma Variations is certainly at top of my music tree.
I've stumbled here late. In tears. Trying to come to terms with everything everyone else is trying to come to terms with. This is just sublime. Makes me miss full orchestra; makes me miss full brass. The pines of rome roar. Love it. To anyone else here and just absorbing this great performance: enjoy. Do well for those around you.
Yes, I miss playing in a symphony. There's something about being surrounded by the sound of the music all around me. It scoops me up and takes me to another place.
@@singingcyclops1 Absolutely it is different than listening. I often say "Oh I have played that before"! ... but I really think it is a different feeling being on the stage/grounds/dirt. :) This is not to take away from any performance: there are so many I could never achieve or be a part of or otherwise comment on. Just wish I could have been there :)
@@renzo6490 I also sang in choir in college. We used to do several great pieces with full symphony and a 73 voice choir. It would send chills down my spine sometimes.
Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. It hurts so beautifully. Thank you.
This is, perhaps, the finest presentation of live music to be found anywhere on the internet, period!!!
First, a tremendous Thank You to Filharmonia Narodowa for granting us, the viewers, the privilege of enjoying this astounding performance in full HD, interruption free and Ad free! Your contribution to this culture is invaluable! Much respect!
• The performance of this Romantic staple is immaculate! Bravo, each and everyone!
• The audio is amazing, (with a good set of speakers!)
• Maestro Kaspszyk draws the required emotion from each and everyone of the players and their instruments, and from the entire room, for that matter!
• The filming is impeccable
• Even the lighting is clear, bright and ample!
All those things, Dynamically Universal.
@@robertzeek4020 yes--I thought that
There is nothing to add---excellent comment
Absolutely stunning and also takes the breath away, nimrod just flattens me and leaves me in a heap wishing I could go back and time and just be with them all.
A great performance - we Brits are always grateful when Elgar et al are performed abroad, especially this well.
Pretty much because we had no great composers besides him! Notwithstanding Purcell.
@@leod-sigefast Vaughan Williams, Finzi, Parry, Bridge, Delius, Butterworth, Coates, Benjamin Britten etc. We have had a few. Elgar is my favourite though.
Vaughan Williams comes a very close second. But I've loved Elgar from childhood, andbthis isvthe best performamce of Enigma I've ever heard. And I'm Irish.
Leode Siefast
Purcell, William Byrd, Vaughan-Willams, Britten, Tippett, Robert Simpson, Maw, Whettam.
And, a humble addition, Sullivan's score for Iolanthe?
I applaude you all, standing ovation from the UK 👏👏👏 simply outstanding 👏👏👏
i play cello and i participate in a orchestra and we play enigma and when i listen this i was crying because it's very beautiful!!!
EXEPCIONAL musicality and sound of this orchestra.
The finest collection of musicians united to achieve a cohesive expression of their collective talents I've experienced in a very long time.
