This directly conflicts what numerous people, including Michaels and Hogan, have said. Michaels wanted a baby face vs baby face match and Hogan wanted a traditional heel vs babyface with him as the babyface. This double speak of "They both turned heel and their fans saw it as them just being themselves." is such BS.
I attended Summerslam 05 in D.C. and I was heavily invested in the main event and it’s build. I felt like I was transported to an alternate 1994-95 wherein Hogan stayed in WWE, and Shawn was his classic heel but also gearing up for his first face run as a singles competitor. It was a great throwback/dream match. At the time, we weren’t worried about Shawn’s overselling or anything like that and knew the match would cap off the build and we’d be done with it. Just glad I got to enjoy it in the moment live.
Same here, that arena that night in DC felt very tribal between hogan fans and michaels fans. Also eddies match and angle recreating his medal ceremony was awesome
@@griswoldclark6835 I agree; I really felt the split crowd during the Cena and Jericho match too. My group was cheering like crazy for Jericho to beat Cena out of nowhere.
Personally, I think that HBK selling for Hulk just like he did for Diesel in 95 was the exact right thing for him to do. It made the match so much better than if he tried to have a serious, high intensity match like HBK vs Angle from around that time.
