  • The Southern Pacific Coast Mail Train, often simply referred to as the Coast Mail, was an important transportation service operated by the Southern Pacific Railroad.
The Coast Mail’s route ran from San Francisco to Los Angeles and back. The train
primarily focused on transporting mail and parcels between cities and towns along the coast. In addition to carrying mail, the Coast Mail Train also offered passenger service to travelers along its route.
While the heyday both mail and passenger trains waned with the rise of automobiles, trucks and airplanes in the mid-20th century, the legacy of the Southern Pacific Coast Mail Train lives on in the history and heritage of the west coast railroad industry. It remains an important chapter in the story of the Southern Pacific Railroad.
On the Verdugo Valley Lines of the Glendale Model Railroad Society the Coast Mail still lives, so enjoy the ride!
The Society is located just a few blocks from the Freeway 134/Pacific Avenue offramp (Exit 7A North) and left at Hahn Ave. The visit is free plus cameras and families, cameras and questions are always welcome.
