About 3 years ago a friend gave me his G25 for free when he upgraded... I’ve not touched a console since - I spend all my down time on AC ACC RF2 and AMS2! I’m not in a rush to upgrade tbh. I love my G25 - id sooner spend the £££ on upgrading the PC!
my dfgt has been working for over 8 years. ive heard something snapped inside a few times but it still works lmao. getting an uprgade to fanatec csw 2.5 this month :)
I've got a G29 brand new back in August (this year). What makes me glad about this specific kind of video is: it's awesome too see that Logitech has great build quality and longevity. As I live here in Brazil, I don't expect to change or upgrade it any time soon. We already know that Sim Racing is a very expensive hobby and here (in Brazil) is no different.
I got G920 last Christmas (boxing day sale actually) with the H shifter for £180 new from Curry's/PC world (UK). I have been playing Euro truck simulator and ACC a lot and it works great for me. I had a Logitech Driving Force when I had a PS3 which lasted and never broke. Seem to be well made, especially for the price. Sim Racing is quite expensive here in UK too, I can't afford a sim rig, have to use a table and office type chair.
I spotted a video of a portuguese speaking brasilian that was showing him playing on PS2 with G27. I suppose it's because of the switch of the wheel program: us on G29 have a switch "PS3-PS4" that means "G27-G29", I suppose that on G27 there's "G25-G27". I would be very happy if I could play on PS2 lite with my G29, there are games that I still like on this console, and I never played them with a wheel

Very nice video, thank you. I have my G25 for 14 years... Never maintained it... works perfectly... I just had to use LUT files in Assetto Corsa for more realistic drifting. To build a cheap but satisfying racing sim it is perfect... I use my gaming laptop (1660ti) and a Quest2, and I am super happy for the price.
@@ligapersada4793 a 1660ti is comparable to a 1070 or a 2060 (without ray tracing and dlss)… MUCH more powerful than 1650ti. The Driving Force wheels have always been some of the best low end wheels I started with a DFGT and moved to a G29 im now rocking a G Pro Wheel and all three wheels have worked perfect for me.
using still g25 got it sinds 2006 and still using it now on my ps5 whit the drive hub adapter works as it should be no problems in my opinion still the best i dont need to upgrade
I bought my g25 about 3-4 years ago and it still runs like new. It already had some signs of slight abuse but so far didn't need any maintenance. I've been thinking of upgrading to a newer wheel that's gonna happen I'm sure gonna keep this one.
Picked mine up about 7 years ago for £50. Had a broken reverse, dead pcb, fixed it and was going to flip it. Used it a few times and fell in love with it. Never bothered upgrading as it was cheap and just refuses to die!
@@WiThErZ666 i actually wonder how much of the g25 can be interchangeable with g920. could i install the pcb controller from 920 in to the g25 & it registers as a 920 ? Just a thought for myself if ever my 920 fails, my g25 is still brand new in box from 2008 or something.
@@OugaBoogaShockwave The wheel mounts are ever so slightly different. I bought a larger wheel and the 3D printed adapter I bought was ever so slightly too large for the wheel base. I ended up making one myself. However, when it comes to internals I think there hasn't been a ton of updates. I know these old G25's rattle about a fair bit in comparison to the new tech but overall there hasn't been a ton of internal refinement over the years. If you have got an 'as new' example of a G25 kicking about I, personally, would be reluctant to do and irreversible mods to it BUT what you say does sound like an interesting idea.
@@WiThErZ666 THX for the replies. i also had a g27 & you could buy off aliexpress the g27 main board for roughly $50-85 usd to change g25 to g27. The main differences with 25 & 27 are heli gears & 4 wheel buttons. Yeah pedals have some different sensor & "supposedly better "tight" shifter on 27 but that's bout it. Also you can convert g27 to 29/920 with it's main board which i think is a better upgrade then g25 to 27 cause of the 4 buttons that can be soldered on pcb. All in all i am just wondering WHY i have held on to this brand new g25 so long. if i can "cheaply" update the main board to a newer model like 920 & still use the g25 shifter & button mappings then i think it's a win ? Well, even if i don't do it i still have a spare pedals & shifter i can use. Should i sell the g25 ? don't think i'll use it much for ps3 or older PC titles, i feel like i am holding a gem & don't know how to go about. i was trying to sell the brand new g25 for $350 & all i get are low ball $200 & a few $250 canadian. No thx but the parts i think are worth more to me & it's BRAND NEW. sorry for long post 😥
With my G27, I notice there is a huge difference in clarity between it and my friend's g29. The 'muddled' feeling you talk about is very present in these gear driven wheels over time. It's time for me to upgrade but I have no idea to what haha.
I have a Logitech BUS for logitech pedals which are 8-bit. My 12-bit converter gives your pedals a resolution of 4096-steps instead of the Logitech Standard ... 256-steps. Throttle control especially on gravel an snow is NIGHT AND DAY!! we're talking several 100% increase in throttle control. Even on tarmac you can hold powerslides in Dirt Rally 2 for looooong corners. For drifting and even in Assetto CC this is awesome. I have one extra and want to sell it. I can also convert G25 shifters to work with G920 and the others. Comment here if u want more info.
Don't forget not only is it damn alright, it was cheaper than a g29 and 920 and those didn't get a shifter at all. Mine still works and I even prefer it to g920 in dirt rally 2.
But don't get it into garbage, I'm the first saying that I would be interested in a G25 or G27, even if I've a G29. Simaracing games get old very, but really very slow. I often play at ~2005 games!
Doesn't really work for realism. If people want to get into drifting and have these wheels they should use the Tando Buddies car pack for Assetto Corsa.
I used the G25 from the moment it came on the market until the beginning of this year. Now I use the Thrustmaster TS-PC and guess what. I still use that shifter and it still works flawlessly. Maybe it feels a bit cheap, but when it still works after all these years of abuse it must be good.
Got one for right around 100€ in portugal a little over 4 years ago in second hand, apart from the smell it was like new.... Still using it to this day
Ah good old days. I remember buying my g25 from eBay for £95 in 2007. And guess what, I am still using to this day!!! i do plan to update to a simucube 2 one day. But until then it will be g25 to give me my sim racing kicks.
2024 (almost 2025) and I'm still using the G25 kit that I bought new when it first came out. I have a lot of variouse types of racing games and the one that still gives me the best "driving feel" is Race 07 - dirt cheap on Steam. Cheers
I have owned the G25 since 2008. I have played for hours on rFactor, GT Legends, GTR2, R3E, Live For Speed, and now Assetto Corsa Competizione and sometimes Project Cars. I was able to test a direct drive and going back to the G25 is difficult: it seems weak, imprecise and lacks flexibility due to the gears. But I changed the power supply to go from 24 volts to 30 volts and it gives it a little boost (I improved the cooling of the electronics). I have reversed the pedals, made myself a magnetic paddle shift mod and I'm currently looking for the right compromise for the brake pedal 😊 Push it to the limits! When it will break, I would go on a direct drive 😎
@@randomcallsign I don't have pics but I can take some. But I don't have discord 😅 Anyway, it's not "clean", I mainly looked for the functionality, and it is 😉
Had one, want one again. Liked it more than any of it's successors. Probably nostalgic stuff, but that's the way I feel. After this I'll probably try and find a good one. It's kinda like with the old cars... :)
I use my g25 since 2006 regularly, it can easily be maintained. I only needed to fix my encoder once because it broke but today you can just 3d print one
If anyone is using any logitech based wheel (minus the new g923 and that) I would recommend searching for Rasmus P's fffb lut guide, it transformed my wheel and I can feel almost every bit of feedback from ac's ffb
I wanted pedals and a shifter to pair my dfgt. But i got one of these for 100 euros, being cheaper than pedals plus shifter and adapters...been using it for a wheel and feels damn good for what it is! Cant beat the pric3
The new intro is now something, you simply cannot change like that. G25 is so old, that I wouldn't even think about that when recommending my fellow young simracers, yet you reminded us all about that piece of great engineering.
Bought mine yesterday used, and it feels like new, paid $100. Compared to my brothers g29 there's no difference, g29 makes slightly less noise but I think this is because of the old grease inside the g25. I just printed a steering wheel adapter and hooked on a real racing wheel. Now g25 feels much better than g29 and for about $300 less + I get a shifter with buttons + sequential gear option! They all looks the same on the inside, same motors, same structure. The software has been updated though and with 923 having trueforce, but there's almost no difference in driving feel.
I actually got a G25 for christmas couple of years back, my dad got it for £100, took it apart, fixed it up where needed, lubricated the mechanism, cleaned it properly inside and out, and it was practically good as new. my dad then got a G29 and to be honest, I prefer the G25. Not only for the looks, but the shifter is far better than the cheap piece of rubbish they charge upwards of £50 for with the newer wheels.
I recently upgraded my G25's brake pedal with the Axc-sim TrueBrake mod and it's made a real difference. I also added a SHH shiifter to the setup. So, I'm quite happy with my G25 for now.
Hi Mark, I'm looking to buy my first setup and also have my eyes on the SHH shifter. Didn't want too spend 190 euro for the TH8A, and the SHH is allot better priced and looks like it's build well. Can you recommend it ? And have you tried the sequential shifting ? planning to use that mostly.
Just got a gamming laptop and dug out my G25 (last used on the ps3 five years ago). Seeing the same issue of paddle downshifting as you mentioned. Also unusable lag. In your video it seemed to do much better. Guess I need to look for ways to reduce lag. Thanks.
This is a perfect video for me, thanks dude, sorry i don't know your first name.. But i have a driving force pro, that i guess was ps2 era, and used on my PC for GTR 2. Which i sim raced with back in the day on i think race sim central site, just for fun it was great. Im a old lad now 51, but i do have a pretty high spec PC thats only a year old, but i can play cod on full specs. I work hard look after my family and don't really do much of anything, except the odd full blown heavy metal concert..lol Im really thinking about getting a G25, just for a bit of fun again. i tried my old DFP on this pc with project cars 2 and it felt a little old. But a G25 just for fun now and then maybe the answer. Really wouldn't mind playing euro/american truck sim and assetto or Project cars and believe or not ive never played Forza, and the open world aspect of that looks cool. thanks for the video my friend, its just what i was looking for. That gets a sub and thumbs up from me, cheers...
The Driving Force Pro still has to be the best ultra-cheap wheel. 2 Of my friends got theirs for under $20! For a 900 degree wheel with force feedback that is pretty impressive
I had a driving force pro for 18€ and it was great! but my dad broke it because he got mad at me for playing too much on it and he felt bad so he got me a g27 I found for 170€
The only real downside of the g25 is the plastic gears and a few less buttons which were upgraded to steel in the g27. Picked up my g27 in 2011 and been hammering on it ever since.

Found a G27 in a neighbours garbage pile just before the pandemic craziness happened which then led to a PC upgrade and a steam spending spree on racing sims (as well as a VR headset). An upgrade to a Fanatec is probably on the cards for next year!
I also still have my OG G25... Everything works. The only other wheel I've used is the newest Logitech for the Xbox one and it felt the sameish. Not sure if it's worth an upgrade.
I received a G25 as a gift and it really grew on me. I’ve driven for about 500 hours in Assetto Corsa for the touge. Had so much fun learning about how to drift, how to much steering is needed. Essentially the G25 is the full package (except the handbrake of course). Sadly, turning the wheel very and going full lock in drifting quickly proved to be damaging the wheel and time really took its toll. The calibration went off centre and it couldn’t proper use the full 900° of rotation. Opened it up to find that optical encoder (small plastic piece) had broken into pieces.
@@ded_errorLess than 20€ with shipping (except if you live somewhere where shipping is more expensive), that's not so expensive. Moreover, it should be "liftime" warrantly because unbreakable 😉

This was my very first steering wheel and it was an amazing entry into simracing! This wheel is so much fun and I would even say more fun than back in the day way more expensive belt driven 'CSR Forza' wheel - any chance you'd do retro review of that wheel?

After having my Logitec Momo force for a few months as a gift , I wanted something more , something a lot better , bough on a bargain the G27 was thrilled to use it ..after a 5 years of hard use the little plastic wheel on the encoder cracked and I was losing the center with vibrations , so I repaired it easy the same one plus I bough a brass encoder carved by laser keeping it still just in case..I still see no reason to change it , but I know someday I shall do upgrade ..
I've had one for almost 2 years and bought it for 75 euros, only bummer I've had is the encoder wheel breaking a couple months in but after spending 15$ at a 3d printing company I got a new one printed and installed it pretty easily and I've been having a lot of fun with it since then. I have probably over 250 hours on Assetto (185 registered in steam but I did have a cracked version before so those hours aren't counted) and honestly I doubt the torque figures people say on the internet, with a lut file on Assetto you don't have to help the wheel countersteer at all and when you use DW or WDTS cars that have a pretty strong ffb, you actually have to fight the car pretty hard when you don't want the wheel to spin and after a 30 minutes sessions my arms start to hurt and I'm not a weak guy, like I don't work out or anything but I'm used to lift heavy stuff and things like that. Now I just passed the theoritical part of my driving licence which allows me to practice driving a car legally in order to pass the actual driving test in 3 months from now, and ever since I've started practicing (I had already started illegally before I had the theoritical pass but don't tell anyone) my dad (and myself tbh) has been surprised of how well I place the car on the road, how easy and naturally I switch gears and how well I manage my speed before and in the corners and how I apply steering input precisely and smoothly so I'd say the g25 and assetto combo might not be 1:1 to real life but it's realistic enough for you to apply your sim skills to real life, and I'll tell you more when I get my first car which hopefully will be rwd so I can test some skids. (don't tell my mom)

Just this week I picked this exact wheel up for $50 Canadian, or about £28. Its my first wheel, and I wasn't expecting much considering the age. Only one quirk I have noticed that the gas pedal sometimes sticks. Has anyone ever had issues with pedals sticking?
i have a dfgt, i want to upgrade. Is the g25 worth? or beside pedals and sifter is pretty much the same? I guess the button layout is better because the new wheels copied the dfgt buttons
it's good to have a wheel that works on older systems, and a sequential for stuff that dont read h-shifter. but it is a dumb how it won't work on ps4 and probably 5 and i guess one thing i wouldnt like about modern wheels are no button on the side. since i like having an ebrake button for drifting. unless someone made a wheel with ebrake, but i'm not going to be getting a new wheel any time soon.

Interesting, I say to you why I shall buy a G25 even if I've a G29: 1) which works better on GTR2, Rf, LFS, RBR, AMS and F1C? Theese are games that are still played a lot. So, it's higly interesting doing an accurate test about that 2) Are G29 pedal's potentiometer compatible with G25 ones? Potentiometers must be changed after years of use, there's a mechanic wear, it's unavoidable. So, I won't buy a G25 without having an incoming aftermarket potentiometers kit 3) There's nothing to ask about this last one, G25 is fully compatible with PS2. I still have PS2 lite+GT4, so adding a G25 at the system excites me. Or a way to play with the G29 at GT4, if FFB would work still

Except for MSFS2020/Assetto Corsa Competizione (while Assetto Corsa runs perfectly in full details)… Dirt Rally/ Project Cars (1 or 2)/ War thunder / X11 /Alyx/ etc. everything are working perfectly .
I would NOT recommend it anymore, though, I have seen 3060 laptops at fair prices recently…

EXACTLY, these Old wheels are work horses & logitech doesn't like that any more.
They just want to sell you a new wheel every few yrs, NO THX.
@@OugaBoogaShockwave You said it brother!

Mine is 13 years old and it works like the first day :)
Did you know the g in g25 stands for Glorious
Don't forget not only is it damn alright, it was cheaper than a g29 and 920 and those didn't get a shifter at all. Mine still works and I even prefer it to g920 in dirt rally 2.
Just replaced my g25 was using it for the last year and a bit. Wanted to get into drifting so I swapped out for a ts-xs. Great wheel with a LUT.
But don't get it into garbage, I'm the first saying that I would be interested in a G25 or G27, even if I've a G29. Simaracing games get old very, but really very slow. I often play at ~2005 games!
Would you sell it?
G25 has steering rotation limiter for drifting. Did you you know you could limit the steering to 200 degrees??
Doesn't really work for realism. If people want to get into drifting and have these wheels they should use the Tando Buddies car pack for Assetto Corsa.

I still have my G25. I recently added the TrueBrake mod and it's breathed new life into this wheel and pedal set.
Just ordered the TrueBrake. Can't wait!

I have reversed the pedals, made myself a magnetic paddle shift mod and I'm currently looking for the right compromise for the brake pedal 😊
Push it to the limits! When it will break, I would go on a direct drive 😎
do you have any pics of that? if so leave them on the discord. that looks cool
@@randomcallsign I don't have pics but I can take some. But I don't have discord 😅
Anyway, it's not "clean", I mainly looked for the functionality, and it is 😉

I still got my G25 to this day, works wonders!
I use my g25 since 2006 regularly, it can easily be maintained. I only needed to fix my encoder once because it broke but today you can just 3d print one

G25 is what you can call 'Real Force Feedback' entry level
G923 is such a small upgrade that it feel's like downgrade overall

The Driving Force Pro still has to be the best ultra-cheap wheel. 2 Of my friends got theirs for under $20! For a 900 degree wheel with force feedback that is pretty impressive

Could you use a G25 shifter with a g920 ? I love the extra buttons and the sequential mode
Yes, as long as it is a logitech wheel, that is newer/like g25
The only real downside of the g25 is the plastic gears and a few less buttons which were upgraded to steel in the g27. Picked up my g27 in 2011 and been hammering on it ever since.

ah the G25 the wheel which started me down the very expensive sim racing hobby, I only just recently upgraded my G27 great wheels!
You can find this encoder in stainless steel or brass on Ebay 😊

Interesting, I say to you why I shall buy a G25 even if I've a G29:
1) which works better on GTR2, Rf, LFS, RBR, AMS and F1C? Theese are games that are still played a lot. So, it's higly interesting doing an accurate test about that
2) Are G29 pedal's potentiometer compatible with G25 ones? Potentiometers must be changed after years of use, there's a mechanic wear, it's unavoidable. So, I won't buy a G25 without having an incoming aftermarket potentiometers kit
3) There's nothing to ask about this last one, G25 is fully compatible with PS2. I still have PS2 lite+GT4, so adding a G25 at the system excites me. Or a way to play with the G29 at GT4, if FFB would work still

My question is will the g25 shifter work with a g920 or is the g27 shifter better for that ?
My plan is to get the g920 for use on PC & Xbox one but hoping the g25 shifter works.
