Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai led the ceremony with 10 nominations, followed by Gunga Jumna with 7 nominations.
Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai was a 1960 release, but was not considered for the 8th Filmfare Awards.
Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai won 4 awards, including Best Film and Best Actor (for Raj Kapoor), thus becoming the most-awarded film at the ceremony.
Shubha Khote received dual nominations for Best Supporting Actress for her performances in Gharana and Sasural, but lost to Nirupa Roy who won the award for Chhaya.

Who says, Ganga Jamuna was a flop,it ran for 104 weeks at Minerva, Bombay, a mega hit of the period.
I found Raj Kapoor & Padmini were the best in JIs Desh mein Ganga Bahti hai... The topic was excellent too. Just imagine a musical against dacoits backdrop. Truely ahead of time film... In deed this vision of Raj Kapoor (1960) turned into reality In the year 1972, when a large number of dacoits surrendered in the Chambal Valley and Rajasthan owing to an important role played by Gandhian organizations under the leadership of Jayaprakash Narayan. Jayaprakash Narayan assured them that they won't be hanged i.e. the punishment under IPC would not be implemented. Sometime reality follows reels. That's why RK films were unmatched. Salute RK. Loved your creativities.

In my opinion, Ganga Jamna is far far better movie than others but the movie got less award than it deserve.

Film Fare Awards 1962 ka episode badia laga Rakesh bhai, aap ki detailing hamesha ki tarha hi Lajawaab rahi. Best music director Ravi sahab ko mila tha ye jaankar achraj hua. Jis Desh Me Ganga Bahti hai film dekh kar hi mahsoos hota hai ki poori film ka direction Raj Kapoor sahab ka hi hai but unhone apne Cameraman Radhu Karmakar ji ka naam aage kar diya tha. Shankar Jaikishan ji jyada deserve karte the music ke kiye 🙏🙏

Those were the days when truly talented artists were given awards, now its more about popularity than real talent or artistry. Real shame!
do you really think that jis desh mein ganga behti hai was better than ganga jumna and raj kapoor's acting was better than dilip kumar's? oh come on man , this prejudice and bias has been there since time immemorial- yes some times the most deserving people win it but not 100% it all depends on who has more clout.

All the films were outstanding in their respect why naushaad ji or shanker jaikishan ignore were surprising .Rakeshji what are your views .Good video which had reminded our golden area of bolly wood.
Very surprising.. naushad and Shankar jaikishan music was great in these films.. Ravi gave very good music but this was not his best..this award was not genuine
Episode bahoot achcha laga rakesh bhai. Again well deserved nominations and winners. So many iconic films released in 1961 such as ganga jamuna, junglee, aas ka panchi, gharana, sasural, hum dono, kabuliwaala, etc. I personally felt surprised not to see balraj sahni nominated for kabuliwala. Also i have one question, since 1962 awards are based on 1961 films, why were kanoon and jis desh mein ganga rehti hai were in the list of nominations? Since they were 1960 films, why were they not part of 1961 award nominations?
This was always surprising..it happened earlier also..if you check all episodes of Filmfare so many times films were awarded two years later.only related people know the truth 👍👍❤️❤️🙏🙏

Dilip Kumar 's GUNGA - JAMUNA is one of the BEST Hindi films ( from all angles ) I have seen till now !!! Now I am 79 years old . But , the film could not attract the people and
was not a success . ACTUALLY , it should have got most of the awards in 1962 !!!

Oh I always though Radhu Karmakar got the best director award! IMO SJ deserved the award for best Music. The orchestra for Aa ab Laut Chalen is legendary. Mukesh saab deserved the best singer award. So the big three clashed for the best acting award and RK saab walked away victorious. Great! I must say, I found Dev saab very compelling in the clip shown. Now really eager to watch Hum Dono.

It was superhit movie also songs were hit also Husn waale Tera jawab nahi was in top song list of Binaca geetmala , Jabse tumhe dekha hai was also popular also children song Dadi Amma dadi Amma Maan jao also a Bhajan by Rafi sahab and asha bhosle jai ranghunandan jai siya raam but award deserving was truly jaidev for Hum dono or Shankar jaikishan who had four superhit albums this year Junglee,Jab pyar kisi se hota hai, Sasural and jis des mein ganga behti hai Naushad was also deserving for Ganga jamuna, Ravi had another superhit album namely Pyar ka saagar which had three superhit Mukesh solos and a popular Rafi Asha duet, salil chowdhury had excellent songs in Chayya and Maya.

My favourite song from album is Main zindagi ka saath Nibhata chala gaya I can't tell u how many times I had listen to this but everytime it seems fresh . Sahir should have been awarded for the lyrics of this song as well as kabhi khud pe Kabhi halaat pe rona aaya.
