K. Asif's magnum opus Mughal-e-Azam led the ceremony with 11 nominations, followed by Chaudhvin Ka Chand with 6 nominations and Parakh with 5 nominations.
Chaudhvin Ka Chand, Mughal-e-Azam and Parakh won 3 awards each, thus becoming the most-awarded films at the ceremony.

MADHUBALA, no question! one of the biggest blunder by the award judges.
Best Actress ki liye Madhubala ji ko milna chaiye tha and Best Music ki liye Naushad ji ko Mughal Azam ki liye milna chahiye tha. Because Mughal e Azam music is classic romantic background all are wonderful.

Kohinoor was a rare once in a millenium phenomenon of film where the tragedy king and tragedy queen both did brilliant comedy and made audience laugh. It's so rare to see such film. So many great films released in 1960. Nice research rakesh bhai!!!
Yes Kohinoor was amazing.. Meena Kumari is my most favourite and here in this Film she was completely charming and lovable.. years earlier when i saw this movie for the first time i was surprised by Dilip Kumar and I started loving him more 👍👍

Excellent video on Filmfare awards 1961. Through the evocative film clips, dialogues n songs one can re-live the wonderful era of Hindi Cinema. The awards spelt various upsets over the years n decades for the nominees n winners n gradually lost credibility for the past so many years. Mughal-e- Azam, one the GREATEST films ever deserved many more awards. I was shocked to learn how Madhubala was ignored despite her exceptionally good performance. The same thing happened to Durga Khote. But what has happened has happened howsoever unfair it is . Jo jeeta wahi sikandar. Do continue with your good work. 👌👍

A interesting and informative video by Rakeshji Sadeo. There was tough fight for awards.Kohinoor and Mugal E Azam were ambitious films. The famous trio Dev Dilip Raj were active during the period. Kala Bazaar was not up to the mark. It was a year of Dilip Kumar. The decisions of the panel of Filmfare were almost correct according to my opinion. A good video by Rakeshji once again.

Thanks for interesting episode. Bimal Roy had received most filmfare awards as a director. It is surprising that ramanad sagar had produced and directed 1960s classic ghoonghat while banner was south cinema Gemini.

Not sure why Mughal E Azam lost so many awards. This was not fair especially when it comes to music, direction and performances. It seems awards were rigged even back then. Not sure though.
You are right as it is discussed earlier that awards are never genuine from the beginning.it is famous that Shankar jaikishan used to purchase award and so many other things

Mughal e Azam is the best Indian movie in history, and yet it didn’t win any awards. Just goes to show award shows are rigged.

Mughal~e~Azam got only two awards viz. for the best cinematography (R D Mathur) and best dialogues (four writers shared it).
Ditto 'Sholay' with just one award for the best editing (M S Shinde)
Films like Guide, Pakeezah, Amar Prem to name a few were totally ignore or sudelined for the music awards.
There's no end to this... The trend continues...

The biggest blunder was to pick any other music director than Naushad sahab for Mughul Azam. There were no better songs than those. There must have been some shady work going on in awarding this award.
