Being an East Coaster and former Pennsylvanian, I love DC and Gettysburg. I think DC is one of the cleanest US cities. I just took my young teen girls on a multi day trip to DC because we access the city via Amtrak and then use public transportation. It’s a very safe feeling city for women to visit alone, I feel, as long as you are smart. One thing I never get used to is the planes flying over head. After the events of September 11th, it always feels heart stopping hearing the planes.

I have lived in DC suburbs my whole life and even I haven't done some of this! And too bad the baseball game was canceled, Camden Yards is a treasure!

How much does that trip cost
Much of what there is to see and do in Washington DC is free, including all the monuments and memorials in the National Mall. Flights, lodging, and food will be the main expenses.
