After all, those Christian traditions became traditions because they worked.

When I attended a synagogue service for a bar mitzvah, near the end it came to the point where the kid and other members of the community came forward to read from the Torah, which was kept in a tabernacle in the center of the worship space. How delightful to find two of my favorite and great intellects, Bishop Barron and Ben Shapiro, together-united in their agreement of the importance of tradition and ritual, despite their disparate religious beliefs. Thank you for this discussion.
The Eucharist is the greatest struggle of my faith, it never stops becoming strange and to submit to that is an act of profound humility and submission. Every time I’m “worthy” to receive it is a great experience
There is also a great need to speak of and discuss Humility, and not only morals and ethics. How can one prove the Humility that Christ speaks of to us?
The loss of spiritual tradition begna to deteriorate with the boomers. The hippie generation rejected religion and traditional morality and as they created the Gen X and Millennial generations, we had zero guidance into anything spiritual. Only my Jewish friends were given that teaching and leadership by example. And even with that, most Jewish people I know under 50 only go to temple for the high Holy days, if that.
It is vitally important for Jews and Catholics to engage in constructive dialogue. Both sides do not have to agree but continuous dialogue has the best possible chance to show that we have more in common than we think. I have often said that when we drift away from rituals, from Mass attendance, synagogue attendance, it all fades into a distant memory, a memory that becomes tainted by our own emotions and intellect, and by influences of the world. There is a brilliance in the mandate to attend Sunday Mass. Without this structure it eventually all becomes lost. Great conversation between two great minds.
Interesting you say that. When I was a young adult, my life wasn't coherent with my faith, and I didn't pray much, yet I never stopped going to Mass. I intuitively knew that stopping that practise would be cutting the umblical cord, leaving me anchorless and adrift. It saved my life, and today my life is centred on and rooted in the Eucharist.
“DO THIS in memory of me”.
Barron did a very good job orienting his message in a way that appeals to Shapiro's Judaism.
I noticed that too - I do not think that is a bad tactic when you are a guest. Allows participants to open up and shows there is common ground.

Great conversation! I love the expression “kantian morality is rooted in the fumes of christianity”. SO MANY non-religious people today do not realize how much of their values come directly from the judeo-christian tradition.
For the dwindling few who possess them, yes, lol.
I am a "cultural Christian" who does not accept the literal truth of the scriptures, but I do believe that living the lifestyle of Christian tradition is still beneficial for both the individual and the society the individual lives in.
After all, those Christian traditions became traditions because they worked.
@@FinalLugiaGuardian That’s great. I would just point out that the Scriptures are not to be always read “literally”. The Church has been teaching how to read the Bible since the early centuries, and that requires guidance because of the layered nature of the text.
I like to see Kant as the first step back to Christ
@@FinalLugiaGuardianYeah, Christ said we'd know false prophets by their fruit.
You've probably accepted a lot of it besides the transcendent aspect. Which happens to be the foundation of... all of it.
Kantian Naturalism is great! Because it's like a sword with nowhere to grab it until you admit that you're talking about God's divine logos, nature, and Morality.
Naturalism is actually where I felt called back, because the assumptions it makes are answered in Christianity.
Wonderful discussion. Thank you Ben for having Bishop Barron. Very kind and open minded of you. Thanks again!
At the start Ben referred to Bishop Barron as his friend.
When Bishop Barron speaks, people listen. I really appreciated this discussion. Thank you Ben Shapiro for making this possible.
What joy to see these two deep in conversation So impressed Shapiro invited the Bishop
Just giving me so much hope
There is hope for the human race! Can you imagine for one moment 2 politicians having a similar discussion about any topic? Calming presenting views even if they don't have the same philosophical, political, or religious base. Listening, letting the guest speak, not arguing, ultimately letting the listener absorb new ideas. This is so refreshing.
Thank you. Two American men, respected and loved, sharing beauty.
This is so needed. I hope this Eucharistic revival bears so much fruit in terms of raising people's consciousness with regard to the Real Presence. Bishops should do more in terms of catechizing their flock. I didn't have to discover the Summa by chance after 25 years of being Catholic. Even early teenagers are capable enough to handle theology and metaphysics, so they should be weaved into the Catholic school curricula.
Edit:
My prayers are with you 🙏🏼. I was in your shoes a year ago.

Many thanks Ben for your interest and respect. This camaraderie is wonderful and deeply human in the best way. I love you Bishop Robert Barron. Edit here , I love you too Ben , you’ve got a great soul .
Big fan of you both, Ben and Bishop Barron. I’m Catholic and a subscriber of the Daily Wire. Such a treat hearing you two in discussion.
As a person raised in a radical reformation tradition (Pentecostalism) who is in the last few years being enlightened by the Holy Spirit on the sacraments, I enjoyed this conversation, Great minds coming together 👏🏽
Thank you for this! I have many Jewish friends as a Catholic and although they are don't believe in Our Lord Jesus I still love our conversations about religion
We are so privileged to have Bishop Barron guiding us. I've been reacquainting myself with my Catholic religion because on my own in the secular world, my life fell apart, and I have found so much encouragement and nourishment from listening to videos Bishop Barron has posted. I absolutely trust him and am grateful to God for all his contributions.
The level of respect Ben shows in all his conversations with different Christian leaders is very inspiring.
May all of our discourses with those outside of our communities be that respectful.
It's Christians who can't agree.

The Jewish people are the natural branches on the vine and we Gentiles have been grafted on. It’s a beautiful vine! Read what the great Saint Paul wrote about this in the epistle to the Romans.

Wonderful teaching from two true men of God
I loved listening to two very well read people discuss the interrelation of Judaism and the Holy Eucharist.
Without Eucharist,I can’t live a single day
When I attended a synagogue service for a bar mitzvah, near the end it came to the point where the kid and other members of the community came forward to read from the Torah, which was kept in a tabernacle in the center of the worship space.
The parallel with communion, going forward to have God's Word put in your mouth, really struck me.
Bc judeaism is gods old covenant before christ and Catholicism is the new covenant fulfilled by Christ

I think Ben is a fantastic interviewer. He’s so patient and respectful.
Understanding the Jewish roots of Christianity has brought me closer to Christ! Thank you for this conversation
Every sentence of this 12 minute conversation could be expanded into an entire semester course in a Theology or Philosophy program.
Its amazing how many insights, how much inspiration can flow from such a brief discussion between two people so devoted to discerning and sharing God's Truth.
Even Nietzsche warned about how morality would fall once its Judeo-Christian foundation completely crumbled. Rituals connect us to the past and allow us to maintain/build a community for our children's future. Excellent video.

Judeo-Christian isn't a thing. Ben just goes along with it to grift Christians.
@@wecx2375 It actually is a thing. Orthodox (small o) Christians realise the Jewish roots of their faith and celebrate and appreciate their Jewish forebearers. How rich to have two men discuss tradition and spiritual giants at work in our lives. Wonderful invterview
Lovely. I hope Ben brings Matt Fradd on for a longer interview soon.
There is also a great need to speak of and discuss Humility, and not only morals and ethics. How can one prove the Humility that Christ speaks of to us?
So much can be lost in just one generation. Each owes to the next generation the passing on of the wealth of spiritual traditions given to us.
Sure, there are some hard points of disagreement but that does not mean such disagreements should prevent us from dialogue. Ben Shapiro and Bishop Barron are setting a fine example for all of us!
