I learned an interesting thing this week. The word "elk" originally referred to moose. But apparently English people didn't know what "elks" looked like. They didn't live in Britain. So when they came to America, they started using a Native American word, moose, for the animal. Then they started using the word "elk" for a different species, which is a little smaller than mooses. Here's a German song that uses the word elk (elch) for mooses. ruclips.net/video/X51wJzPsKEQ/видео.html

Unbelievable that people want a picture that bad
People r crazy! Give wildlife their space.. when u get hurt it should fall solely on ur shoulders & not the animals because u have been warned to keep ur distance.. when someone gets hurt then the wildlife always get put down & it's not right!
Damn straight it is not SAFE I keep my distance from those bull Elks and stay far away from them.
It's like they have never seen a unicorn before!?!
If you take another second to looking in your camera of your phone, there is a very cool feature call "zooming". Yes, it's the feature that has been around for decade so where tf you been? So stay back tf off and zoom tf in, and that will 100% save you from them elking your butts
Go up to him and pet him , HE WONT HURT YOU . AAH OH WE GOT A KAREN

See. A. Doctor.
Can't fix stupid in America. It's pandemic...
These are stupid people. I’m from elk country. Just leave them be. Watch from a safe distance, if you must, but it is better to just move on. They are not rare or unusual.

He rutting and his neck is swollen/ full of raging mating hormones. These people are in serious danger and don't know it smh
It's a shame how city people seems to be to damn smart to use even the slightest amount of common sense
Stressing the elk out. The city should not allow people to get that close
The town of EP does put out so many warnings, police patrol, volunteers patrol and yet the stupidity of people still persists. So it's not the towns fault the idiots continue to not heed the warnings, the town doesn't heard the elk they are wild and there are way more elk than there are people who live in Estes. I've lived here for 15 years and seen people get gored, I've seen people get kicked, I've seen cars get attacked and the flood of idiocracy still keeps coming. How about if we just stop letting the idiots out instead of blaming the someone else for a change.
Was just going to say, I bet there already is a distance they are supposed to stay away from wild life , not just this area but every area.. can't stop every crime sadly
You could tell the animals were stressed. The male was trying desperately to herd the females and calves--- tourists, clueless!
SO..THEY CONTINUE TO FLASH SHOTS AT HIM
....TAUNTING HIM...PEOPLE ARE SO IGNORANT
The stupidity people can display never ceases to amaze me. RIP common sense.
Sooo uncool!!!
I question rangers need to BABYSIT!!!
This is extremely dangerous! If one of these elk harmed a tourist the elk would be euthanized. Don’t be stupid, people! FFS!
I see it every year in estes Park
Isn't Estes Park wonderful place
City folks, the downfall of humanity.
I cant stand the general public. Kind of wish that bull just started mowing people over and flinging them into the lake. That would teach them I guess. Give the animals some space! They were totally surrounding them. Then there were the morons slowing down traffic as usual to get a quick look.
The couple with a stroller .......................!
I wish nature would revolt against us…
Bull elk in the rut... "let's crowd him!" Here's your sign...
Powerful animals
I can't believe you don't surround them by other animals to breed with too far out over populated
To the Ladie on The Bike,,,,Really?
Is this a park? Are the elk use to being around people? This seems very foolish to me.
Yes and yes, and still foolish because these are wild elk
The person at the 4:06 mark gets the idea!
They're not just putting themselves at risk, for which they would deserve any harmful outcome. But in reality, the Elk will pay with his life should he hurt a human. His life taken for a selfie.
These people are selfish and ignorant, and could care less about these magnificent creatures.
