This man is just unbelievable. Not only is he among the most versatile drummers ever, but he is also a human rhythmic encyclopedia, and in every single note, pattern, groove or fill played we can appreciate all his love for the instrument, immense technical background and curiosity and enthusiasm for everything he plays. A true legend and an example for every musician in the world.
how do i practice my kick im thinkin the height of the chair affects my kicks makes me exhausted i need some advice how do i nake a good kick without excerting too much..
speaking of voices, he's doing Winnie the Pooh V.O. work; also - he's like the other Dom Famularo - an excellent ambassador for the drumming community.
Gregg Bissonette... He is 'everyman's" drummer.. Amazing understated chops.. completely unpretentious and positive. I think he is my fave musician in general
I said this in another post to another Gregg lesson with Dave Atkinson. This echoes the other Comments here. You don't see so much such an outstanding player and teacher who also seems like such a great person. Funny, smart, talented and enough energy for four people.
I went to a Gregg Bissonette drum clinic as a 12 year old boy in the 90s in Arlington Heights Illinois. Inspiring, humble, and contagious energy. Kicked off the next 30 years of drumming for me.
Love the lesson. Amazing to here how in love he is with drums/music after so many years, while uplifting those before him and his peers alike. Truly one of the greats that has influenced players and will continue to. True example of humbleness.
Love Gregg' s playing. Switched onto him after hearing him on one of the original Buddy Rich video tapes. One of the most musical yet underrated drummers of all time! Great job Drumeo, captured Gregg's abilities of a player very well!!!
Hard to say, if underrated. I know him since 20 years. His versatility and musicality hooked from the first moment on, too. And his fluency is on a level with Dave Weckl.
Great seeing Gregg as enthusiastic and amazing as ever! First heard him on Maynard Ferguson "Live in San Fransisco" in 1983, then live with David Lee Roth in 88. One of the true greats of our time.
It's amazing what this man can do with his minimal kit! Definitely drives home the fact that we don't need trinkets and decorated kits to be able to play well. Huge respect for this man!🙏
I met Gregg at Beatles on the Beach (Delray FL) this past weekend. Amazing drummer and totally friendly and genuine in person. Great stories and drumming insights too. Motivated me to get behind the kit after a hiatus (random life stuff). He makes drumming look smooth, easy, and fun, amazing repertoire of styles. Thanks Gregg!
Gregg is the best. Sincerely. Got it all, inside and out. My biggest inspiration for twenty years. Who doesn’t want to get better when they listen to him?
I love love love this guy!! That passion and energy could power up a whole continent. What a great human being. This was a much needed push since I've been slacking off lately and now I can happily start practicing again. Thank you Drumeo!!
The mentor of one of my favorite drummers. It's great to see him on Drumeo; phenomenal instructor and beautiful playing. Thanks for the great content as always, Drumeo!
I remember watching Gregg Bissonette on VHS for the first time in a Russian jazz school back in 1998. He has always been a true pro and still is my favorite videoschool guy amongst others of that time like Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Omar Hakim etc. It was so cool to see a guy with such versatile way of playing, like some cool punk hippie guy with crazy drum abilities in almost every genre. Thank you, Gregg, you are a great teacher and person!
I've been a GB fan since I first heard Eat Em & Smile. Back then there was no RUclips, so all I could do was try to listen to albums he played on and read articles about him. Fast-forward these many years and we're all able to dial up any and all things Gregg Bissonette anytime anywhere. He's so fun to watch and can play any style. No one ever mentions that he can sing, but he can do that, too--as evidenced by the intro track on this video!
Gregg & Kenny Aronoff are 2 of the best teaching drummers in MHO!!!! They both have a great mindset that I love.....I'll never be as great as a want to be, but I'm willing to spend the rest of my life trying to be as great as I can be!!!!! Great words to live and drum by!!!!!
Absolutely solid! The world needs way more of this kind of positive energy. Seriously making me want to play drums again. Now if I can just find a place to put a kit...
I hear you...hey, consider an electronic kit! They are amazing sounding and easy to set up or move around and great feel for great practicing. Plus, direct plugin to your DAW for recording
@@johnrogers9481 Yeah, I've thought about that from time to time but playing "real" drums for so many years in gigging bands makes it just not the same. I will agree that they can fun though regardless.
Gregg inspires me for so many years and he is still one of the best drummers in the world. My absolute favourite top-drummer. It's always a blast to see and hear him. So keep on groovin', Gregg!
When Greg says you have to like the drumming of every style, he is spot-on. I like everything from prog to metal to punk to funk to disco to latin to jazz.
NEVER EVER forget your quad expresso!!! best reason for watching this lesson - Does humor belong in teaching = 100% , it motivates to learn anything, anywhere, from anyone !
Been a fan of Gregg Bissonette since I first heard his drumming on David Lee Roth's solo album with Yankee Rose and Shy Boy. Amazing talent, and an amazing human being. I've never met him but I have a feeling.
OK. Ready for part 2! I saw Greg at a clinic about 20 years ago. An example he gave with playing to different styles was simply playing along to songs on the radio and start switching stations and play to whatever comes up. But you have to love all music.
Great player. Really knowledgeable, great attitude. Ive been studying Cuban music for years and he knows his stuff. Changuito a true master. Best Drumeo lesson.
Greg's a great Drummer and I love that song He played at the beginning. When David Lee Roth put his band together and had Greg as his drummer he didn't take a step back at all from having Alex before
Gregg is such an interesting, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and entertaining drummer! This the first time I have seen him, I will certainly be following him from now on.
From buenos aires Argentina. I'm a guitar player but start to learn and love drum years ago when discovered Gregg playing the extremist for joe satriani.
...........and this is why this man has been on the top musicians of all times call list. The list of who he hasnt played with would be easier to state than who he has. Absolute legend. Some of my favorite albums of all time have his name in the album liner notes. Hope he keeps going for a long time.
Waaaay back in HS marching band, we performed Coconut Champagne as a drum solo, I played marimba. This song was my first intro to Gregg. Fan ever since.
What a drummer and a human being!!!! I DO NOT play drums, I play the guitar - but who cares. Listening and watching him gives me inspiration for years to come. And guys, fellow guitarists - remember - there is no good band without a solid rhythm section, some may even say your band is as good as your drummer is.
Yes right. For example listen to Randy Rhoads with Quiet Riot then with Ozzy Osbourne with Daisley and Kerslake on the rhythm section. The difference is blasting. Randy is a guitar god period. But with a solid rythm section he really could express himself
Nice to hear him shout out Tomas Haake. That man is a machine and what he does in Meshuggah is legendary. Not many drummers revolutionize a genre like that.
I give the odd ‘clinic’ (more focus on the gear, than me) but one thing I tell younger drummers is to learn at least one type of groove from all the major music groups: rock, jazz, country, funk, reggae and blues. If you have at least one of each, then you can make your way through most situations. I compare grooves to tools-and as a ‘worker’ if you’re being called to a job, make sure you have at the least the right basic tools to do it right. Same basic premise as what Gregg is saying about variety. Very cool!
Love Greg B. My take, it’s not about shredding @ 240 BPM 24x7. Understand the structures and feels so you jump in and participate. Doesn’t have to be perfect, make it your own and add yourself to the music... love this guy’s energy.
Gregg you are amazing, very hard to purchase this purple kit, its a dream kit! I will keep dreaming! Your an inspiration to watch thank you for all you teach
Damn when Greg said he listens to Snarky Puppy I cheered a little. I NEVER hear any musicians talk about Snarky Puppy and their excellence. Was lucky to see them last year and was blown away!

What a great, positive guy, and a fine drummer. This is what life is about: have fun, do cool things, make people happy.

One of the top guest appearances on Drumeo!!
I play guitar and I love this. Such a musical lesson to understand where these styles and rhythms come from. Every player should watch this.
Outstanding! Bissonette is so fluid, versatile and just plain fun to listen to. I bet Ringo learns as much from him as he does from Ringo. Bravo!
for sure. Jeff porcaro is one of my favorites wish he was still around

Epic lesson. Himself and Roth chatting after 24 'espressos' back in the day must have been amazing.
One of my absolute favorit drummers. Honest, humble, pro, earthy, and a great teacher! Btw: that kit looks amazing
Ever since Roths solo album when I learned his double-bass shuffle, I have been a Greg Bissonette devoted listener! He's the real deal!

One of the most versatile Drummers, I adore this man, and his super feeling.
Gregg looks great and sounds sharp as ever. He's one of those who can play with energy and excitement and match that with talent and innovation.
I`ve been following Mr. Gregg since the early 90's. Love this guy.

I had the opportunity to see him live. Its impressive how even the most simple stuff sounds so good.
He was the second drum clinic I attended as a kid, great memories
