- Gregg Bissonette (known largely for his gigs with David Lee Roth and Ringo Starr's All-Starr Band) is one of today's most well-rounded pro drummers - he can play virtually any style on drums! He's so well versed in his craft that he made a DVD about it - "Musical Drumming in Different Styles" with Hudson Music.
In this lesson, he talks about how techniques and vocabulary from one style translate to another, why you should study the greats, why you should play with live musicians, and that time Tony Williams learned how to play heavy metal in one week.
Gregg is one of the most versatile drummers in the music business. His incredible range of styles from jazz, rock, Big Band, Blues, Latin, and fusion has allowed him to work with many of the world's top artists. A GRAMMY award winning drummer, his impressive resume includes Santana, David Lee Roth, Maynard Ferguson, Toto, Joe Satriani, and Ringo Starr, and you'll find his name on many TV and movie scores.
Get tips from a pro drummer and learn to drum in any style!

This man is just unbelievable.
Not only is he among the most versatile drummers ever, but he is also a human rhythmic encyclopedia, and in every single note, pattern, groove or fill played we can appreciate all his love for the instrument, immense technical background and curiosity and enthusiasm for everything he plays. A true legend and an example for every musician in the world.
One of the top guest appearances on Drumeo!!
What a great, positive guy, and a fine drummer. This is what life is about: have fun, do cool things, make people happy.

@@markdemell3717 Voice of a wrestler. 👌🏼🤣
@@saintjabroni He does a little ,not exactly Macho Man Savage though.OOh yeeeaah.
he never stops talking.
speaking of voices, he's doing Winnie the Pooh V.O. work; also - he's like the other Dom Famularo - an excellent ambassador for the drumming community.
Gregg Bissonette... He is 'everyman's" drummer.. Amazing understated chops.. completely unpretentious and positive. I think he is my fave musician in general
I said this in another post to another Gregg lesson with Dave Atkinson. This echoes the other Comments here. You don't see so much such an outstanding player and teacher who also seems like such a great person. Funny, smart, talented and enough energy for four people.
Epic lesson. Himself and Roth chatting after 24 'espressos' back in the day must have been amazing.
Outstanding! Bissonette is so fluid, versatile and just plain fun to listen to. I bet Ringo learns as much from him as he does from Ringo. Bravo!
for sure. Jeff porcaro is one of my favorites wish he was still around
I play guitar and I love this. Such a musical lesson to understand where these styles and rhythms come from. Every player should watch this.
Ever since Roths solo album when I learned his double-bass shuffle, I have been a Greg Bissonette devoted listener! He's the real deal!
One of my absolute favorit drummers. Honest, humble, pro, earthy, and a great teacher! Btw: that kit looks amazing
One of the most versatile Drummers, I adore this man, and his super feeling.
Gregg looks great and sounds sharp as ever. He's one of those who can play with energy and excitement and match that with talent and innovation.
I`ve been following Mr. Gregg since the early 90's. Love this guy.
He’s so knowledgeable about sooo many genres of music......and he’s an expert in each one. One of my favorite drummers and he’s such a nice guy.
Love the lesson. Amazing to here how in love he is with drums/music after so many years, while uplifting those before him and his peers alike. Truly one of the greats that has influenced players and will continue to. True example of humbleness.
Love Gregg' s playing. Switched onto him after hearing him on one of the original Buddy Rich video tapes. One of the most musical yet underrated drummers of all time! Great job Drumeo, captured Gregg's abilities of a player very well!!!
Hard to say, if underrated. I know him since 20 years. His versatility and musicality hooked from the first moment on, too. And his fluency is on a level with Dave Weckl.
I had the opportunity to see him live. Its impressive how even the most simple stuff sounds so good.
He was the second drum clinic I attended as a kid, great memories
Great seeing Gregg as enthusiastic and amazing as ever! First heard him on Maynard Ferguson "Live in San Fransisco" in 1983, then live with David Lee Roth in 88. One of the true greats of our time.
One of the true greats together with you!
It's amazing what this man can do with his minimal kit! Definitely drives home the fact that we don't need trinkets and decorated kits to be able to play well. Huge respect for this man!🙏
It's always a pleasure to watch Gregg's lessons. I love his passion for drumming.
Dang. The epitome of what a top professional drummer can do- wow. Mad skills. TY.
This is real musicality, superb musicianship; he has a pure love for music. Big thanks from Germany to Drumeo for creating this kind of content!
I met Gregg at Beatles on the Beach (Delray FL) this past weekend. Amazing drummer and totally friendly and genuine in person. Great stories and drumming insights too. Motivated me to get behind the kit after a hiatus (random life stuff). He makes drumming look smooth, easy, and fun, amazing repertoire of styles. Thanks Gregg!
I love love love this guy!! That passion and energy could power up a whole continent. What a great human being. This was a much needed push since I've been slacking off lately and now I can happily start practicing again. Thank you Drumeo!!
The mentor of one of my favorite drummers. It's great to see him on Drumeo; phenomenal instructor and beautiful playing. Thanks for the great content as always, Drumeo!
Love it! Gregg is a one of a kind player with tons of knowledge. Thanks Drumeo 🙌🏼
I saw him at a drum clinic in montreal ,back in the day he was with mapex drum . What a great evening!
I remember watching Gregg Bissonette on VHS for the first time in a Russian jazz school back in 1998. He has always been a true pro and still is my favorite videoschool guy amongst others of that time like Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, Omar Hakim etc. It was so cool to see a guy with such versatile way of playing, like some cool punk hippie guy with crazy drum abilities in almost every genre. Thank you, Gregg, you are a great teacher and person!
Love listening to Gregg play and speak about drums/music. And always, great drum tone, and LOVE the cymbal sound!
This is more of a life lesson than a drum lesson. He has one of the best attitudes I have ever seen.
Best lesson on Drumeo ! Love the Master Bissonette!!!! The way he loves music and all kinds of music is really inspiring me...thanks.
I've been a GB fan since I first heard Eat Em & Smile. Back then there was no RUclips, so all I could do was try to listen to albums he played on and read articles about him. Fast-forward these many years and we're all able to dial up any and all things Gregg Bissonette anytime anywhere. He's so fun to watch and can play any style. No one ever mentions that he can sing, but he can do that, too--as evidenced by the intro track on this video!
Gregg inspires me for so many years and he is still one of the best drummers in the world. My absolute favourite top-drummer. It's always a blast to see and hear him. So keep on groovin', Gregg!
I love this man and his shoes. I had an old instructional tape of him playing with the same all stars. I watched it 100 times
Thanks Jared and Gregg. The best drum lesson / interview I've ever seen.

Gregg is a legend and for good reason! What an amazing lesson.
OK. Ready for part 2! I saw Greg at a clinic about 20 years ago. An example he gave with playing to different styles was simply playing along to songs on the radio and start switching stations and play to whatever comes up. But you have to love all music.
WOW!!! Just WOW! Loved the lesson... man, this guy is amazing, his drumming and beyond!
The best! He can play any kind of music; make it his own. Always a perfectionist! Love this guy1!

I went to a Gregg Bissonette drum clinic as a 12 year old boy in the 90s in Arlington Heights Illinois. Inspiring, humble, and contagious energy. Kicked off the next 30 years of drumming for me.
Greg is one of my favorite drummers. What a wonderful character and beautiful player.
He's a runaway train, but my god the GROOVE is so amazing. What an awesome and truly versatile player. Totally blown away, Great energy.

That opening tune, Damn! Unlike some math prog display, this is something I could listen to over and over.
Wow! Thanks Gregg. So many licks in there to sample from. Liked your vocals as well. Two thumbs up.
Don't know what I love more about Gregg B.

One of my good friends! He had me come up and play Coconut Champagne at HIS clinic on THOSE drums! What a dude!
Waaaay back in HS marching band, we performed Coconut Champagne as a drum solo, I played marimba. This song was my first intro to Gregg. Fan ever since.

...........and this is why this man has been on the top musicians of all times call list. The list of who he hasnt played with would be easier to state than who he has. Absolute legend. Some of my favorite albums of all time have his name in the album liner notes. Hope he keeps going for a long time.
The Tony Williams story: 29:08 start
Gregg: How did you get that lick together in a week so fast?
Tony: I practice a lot.
(Me: In tears.)
From buenos aires Argentina. I'm a guitar player but start to learn and love drum years ago when discovered Gregg playing the extremist for joe satriani.
Absolutely solid! The world needs way more of this kind of positive energy. Seriously making me want to play drums again. Now if I can just find a place to put a kit...
I hear you...hey, consider an electronic kit! They are amazing sounding and easy to set up or move around and great feel for great practicing. Plus, direct plugin to your DAW for recording
@@johnrogers9481 Yeah, I've thought about that from time to time but playing "real" drums for so many years in gigging bands makes it just not the same. I will agree that they can fun though regardless.
I always enjoy Gregg’s enthusiasm!👍
Greg's a great Drummer and I love that song He played at the beginning. When David Lee Roth put his band together and had Greg as his drummer he didn't take a step back at all from having Alex before
One of my favorite drummers and humans!!!
