Btw, y'all who watched the season know how Haida's family's surname is also Haida, right? So does that make Haida's full name Haida Haida? Who tf decided that name was a good idea lol. Also did he get to study computer science in the end like he wanted? Cuz that wasn't quite clear. Actually there were a bunch of loose ends in this season tbh. And why did Fenneko even call out Retsuko for wasting all her money in her unicorn bf vr game in the past like gurl didn't you also do the exact same??? Hypocrite lol. But I forgive her cuz she's iconic and her laugh cures all sadness.

That was a top notch decision from the director. It reminds me of how the tv show The Office U.S. almost had a laugh track added to it, and fans universally agree that adding something like that would’ve completely ruined the raw nature of the show.

@@BB-eg5pu I totally agree with you! You understand my pain lol. Haida is my least favorite character of the series. He's top tier worst in my opinion. The whole will they won't they got stale really fast. And if I remember correctly, isn't this show called Aggretsuko? Because the last two seasons, it focused too much on Haida. And honestly, I don't like Haida and Retsuko together. They're better off as friends. Fenneko would be a better match for him! Poor Inui pretty much got swept under the rug. And Shikabane was another potential match for him. I didn't like how pretty much all the characters were pressuring Retsuko and Haida to be an item. I'm just really sad how the series ended. It was rushed and it literally exhausted me when I was finished bingeing it the day it was released. Way to murder a good show, Netflix writers!

Is anyone else a bit disappointed that Retsuko and Haida married legally in a 5 second sequence? I was expecting at least a small ceremony through a time skip but them marrying on paper sort of makes Retsuko and Tadano's break up more pointless than before. He said "Marriage is something done on a piece of paper. It doesn't change anything." And it didn't change anything between Retsuko and Haida except getting a new house and approval from her parents. So, if it wasn't done like Retsuko and Haida both pursued it to be done traditionally, then Tadano getting dumped by Retsuko feels more sad than good for both of them tbh.
Hot take but Retsuko and Haida should have NEVER been endgame. They’re so much better as friends than they are a couple, and I feel like them getting together kind of diminishes the integrity of their characters and the lessons they were meant to each us. Were they perfect? No. Did they always get what they wanted? No. But they kept pushing forward anyways and that’s what made them relatable and great.
Them falling into this honestly lukewarm (at best) romance and marriage is…..bleh.
@@TheLastHylianTitan Agreed. I tried so hard to want Retsuko and Haida together but I truly could not want to root for them. I was okay with it and yes they had some cute moments, but they were like mediocre to me. If the writers wanted them to be endgame, they should have expanded Haida's character way before the final season as more than just Retsuko's simp and made it feel less forced.
Also, both of them had a passion for rock (Retsuko for vocals, Haida for the bass) and that had so much *wasted potential* when this wasn't even acknowledged between the two 😭. I'm hoping Tadano and Inui found other characters that they could be with because they were done dirty :(
Man, why do all gringos forget that this series takes place in Japan, so them marrying in the spur of the moment was actually one of the most romantic and passionate acts that they could portray in the series. It goes as far that not only they skipped over asking for their parents permission (which is some sort of cultural obligation due to the aspect of respect given to elders), but also ignored common family dynamics of the country for the sake of their own peace. They are not a conventional couple in the slightest, but they do show the care and support they give to the other very openly, you're just not used to the way its portrayed because you believe that rose filtered shojos are an accurate representation of Japanese couples.
Yes exactly! I kinda wish instead of the ending being her back on the train to work again maybe it could've ended with a small ceremony with all the friends and family they made along the series.
That personally to me would've been a much more fulfilling ending especially since such a big motive in this show is haida wanting to be with retsuko and retsuko wanting to get married

Also, why'd you have to use a derogatory term like "gringo" when that's supposed to mean someone who isn't Hispanic or Latinx? I am actually Hispanic so that use of the term makes no sense and even if I wasn't, that was both unnecessary and irrelevant to say to others.
Yes it takes place in Japan and different cultures marry different ways but it was peculiar to suggest being married traditionally several times in the show in both their point of views and just decide to do it on paper. Heck, it's not really that they married on paper but that they threw it in a five-second sequence despite it being so anticipated for the characters to get married, even if it was the show's actual "endgame" or not. I feel like that scene could have still happened in the heat of the moment, but it didn't have to be so quick where the majority of fans didn't get to catch the scene properly. Even them suggesting they couldn't afford a traditional wedding or decided to do it differently would had given the scene better context.

I agree! Retsuko was often portrayed to be a hopeless romantic, so seeing her have little to no fluff moments with Haida was... strange? Considering how head-over-heels she was for Tadano (and projecting a fantasy romance onto space cadet in S1), the shift felt very forced. And yeah she learned from her past mistakes of rushing into relationships, but that wouldn't take away her love of romance right? It was as if she settled for Haida - which is not the healthy end you want to a "will they won't they" trope 😭
They are dating for, like, at very least 1,5 years at this point. You can judge about this by their seasonal clothes change and the fact that elections are held in Octobers. They have a chemistry of a long term couple. Also, I kind of think the writer/director based them on himself and his wife, and Japanese married couples are kind of culturally very different to both the rest of the world and romcom anime.

I don't understand why they would push Haida into pursuing Retsuko and to end up married to her. I actually like the chemistry between him and Shikabane. I even thought of a couple name for them: HaidaBane. (Ok the name's not perfect but U get the idea).
Also, maybe Haida's first name might be Heinrich, from the TBS shorts if anyone remembers.

It’s just, NOT the best ending for such a great show! They’re NOT a good pair!!! I wish they had different relationships than to be with each other, also yeah, WHAT THE HELL was the dumb campaign storyline?!?! It was just awful and very unnecessary!!!!
Felt like there were two season arcs crammed into one. Was a fun watch, but it was also disappointing. Not a very good way to end a series.
Heck, I was thinking that Haida would go for Shikabane instead in the first half of the season, with how much time they actually talked to each other, before the election arc jumped in and threw her out of the picture for the most part.
Agreed. I feel like the political storyline could have worked but maybe with another character. What if Haida was one of the employees who was laid off and his toxic family kicked evicted him afterwards? Then, he realizes how much homeless people in Japan have to go through and runs against his brother to change things.
Meanwhile, we could have Retsuko's final motive in the show be something she actually pursues.
You should realize they are endgame from season 1.
