I love how the show is an adult animation, but doesn't focus on sex, drugs or being irresponsible or a bad and funny person.
Yeah, the worst that happens is getting intoxicated at a bar.
Huge agree here!
Yeah. It's adult because it's focused on the dilemma of what to do with your life, on work, money, etc. What's more adult than that?
There's mature adult shows and immature adult shows. This is a mature one

Which is why I ship Haida and Fenneko lol. I hate the nice guy trope so I hope Haida and Retsuko never get together.

They probably did not think about how the animals work in real life when they made this show.
Other shows like Beastars for example does it yea but i dont think they did it with this show.
Some shows with animal characters does it and some just make them like humans.
@@anns9970 Haida x Fenneko > Haida x Inui > Haida x Retsuko imo
@@anns9970 fenneko x haida has been a long running ship since season 1. Im really hoping it happens
Inui was done wrong, but I am impressed by how she handled the situation. I've been in haida's situation, 5 years ago to be exact. Instead of being stubborn like him I moved on because the fact is when the person you're pursuing rejects and turns you down, it hurts, but thats your que to move on. I moved on and I found someone that I can have a real future with, been together for 5 years going strong. The voice actor for the stalker is the same voice as Louis the red deer from Beastars or it sounds alot like him................................
So not so much interesting fact as something you assume is true.
Actually the voice actor for Haida is the voice actor for Jack from Beastars

@@mzjulesb6989 I knew that. I said LOUIE not jack
LadyDraco87 Yeah you said that and it was wrong lol. He voices Jack not Louis.
Listen, Inui deserves to be someone’s everything, not an option. I think Haida knew that she deserved someone who wanted her 100%, and he wasn’t that man. The classic “right person, wrong time” tragedy. Whether Haida’s relentless pursuit of Retsuko is correct is still up in the air for me, but I firmly believe that him deciding not to waste Inui’s time anymore was the right and mature thing to do.
Oh yeah I def agree. For me the issue 100% is Haida's "if it's not Inui then it had to be Retsuko!" mentality and I can't tell if the show itself is condoning it. That is what makes me most uneasy.
The show doesn't mention him not choosing Inui as some noble decision for her benefit. Let's be honest here. He chose retsuko because he's still obsessed with her. It wasn't to give Inui a chance at a better partner.
@@RJLiams Inui doesn't deserve someone as spineless as Haida lmao. Neither does Retsuko tbh.
@@privernd Spineless isn’t exactly accurate when describing Haida outside of his (lack of a) love life. He’s had some real conviction and decent advice throughout, if only he followed his own words.
@HBegaming YT i will rewatch Aggretsuko again, but i will skip that season, i didnt enjoyed that much, i mean i did, i liked it, but is stressing and once is ok but watching it twice is too much, 1, 2, 3 and 5 are awesome seasons, and imo season 5 has the best intro, only because haida is in it
Haida is incredibly realistic. He doesn’t make the “logical” choice because he’s leading with his heart. He simply likes Retsuko because…..he just does. Inui makes sense and does like him but he wouldn’t ever be truly happy with her and it’s definitely not fair to Inui to be in this situation.
That’s some high school shit.
i agree!
@@mario167100 worse, it more like middle school and shit.
And that's why realistic doesn't mean good.
To hell with realism. I watch shows to escape that ish.
If there's one thing I've learned over the years, and Cowboy Bebop is a perfect example of this, people don't always move forward. They don't always grow. Sometimes they just can't escape the past. I'll be rooting for Haida to do so, but if he doesn't, well, sometimes that's life.
As much as I love Spike from Bebop,. you're right, he couldn't grow. You could tell Faye was falling for him, but he could only see the past.
And I dont see that as a bad thing, from a writing perspective. Sometimes seeing a character ultimately fail is just as effective as seeing one succeed.
Yessss, I didn’t like cowboy beepbop because of that. I got too attached to the characters just to see them walk off a cliff they saw miles ahead.
@@lullabysorrow5746 That's life though, in more ways than one. Even I'm learning that from other people now.
there's a difference between having that as an intentional theme vs being baldy wriiten.
I think this inability of Haida's to move on is realistic. You don't move on from feelings of intense infatuation without some self resistance.
IT's realistic, but you have to sacrifice a level of realism for a good story
@@shadekerensky3691 the sacrifice of realism is already done by making the characters animals. What makes this show good is BECAUSE it’s realistic.
@@Cloudychanceofgrey Keep in mind, you can be realistic whilst not beating a dead horse, an example of said dead horse would be Haida's whole thing with Retsuko. The best way to resolve it would be to have him finally learn when to quit and be Retsuko's friend instead of trying to force his way in as a romantic partner, though a good bonus would be to have him and Fenneko develop feelings for each other that were founded from their long-time best friendship (though that might be too much to ask.)
I agree but i doubt if haida took time away from both girls decided to work himself past retsuko and be with inui that would be unrealistic ya know?just because what he did was realistic doesnt mean an alternative couldnt also be realistic
@@fetusthegreat9797 Exactly, like him going for a relationship with Femneko wpuld be realistic because many best friends, especially as close as Haida and Fenneko are, turn out to be romantic soulmates. Plus, youbcan add the punchline of him and her getting together and possibly married as the penultimate stage of Fenneko's complain-about-something-she-later-likes idiosyncrasy.
While there's valid criticism about Haida's choice, I still think he made the right choice between Inui and Retsuko. While he did have a better chance with Inui, he still wasn't over Retsuko. Inui dealing with his left over feelings wouldn't be fair to her. He'd need time to get over his feelings for Retsuko at most 90% before getting with Inui. Same goes for Miraculous.
Taking time to get over his feelings for Retsuko before going to Inui would still be choosing Inui. Haida didn't do that. He shot down Inui and chose to keep pursuing Retsuko.
Being open with Inui and telling her that he would still be dealing with leftover feelings from his infatuation with retsuko was another option.
@@ShadyDoorags I swear this also happened with Retsuko and that elon musk horse thing in season 2. I swear it's like the writing requires that things return to the status quo at the end of each season.

The only comfort is that the show has shown it doesn't throw away its characters after their debut season. I'm holding out hope that Inui will get the happiness she deserves in the next season, if we get one.
A season 4 was confirmed and i think it coming out somewhere in December
@@anon_2614 yes early December i think
You may have to be holding out hope a little bit more longer...
Welp, we better pray for another season or maybe an spinoff
Valid criticism, but imagine him being with someone while you're clearly not over someone? Relationships are all about timing and this would've been a terrible one. Not to mention you said yourself, she liked him MORE than he liked her, there's an inherent imbalance! Yes, him pursuing Retsuko isn't gonna pan out, but he shouldn't be with someone while trying to get over someone else. That ain't fair to best-girl Inui
Yeah Inui deserves more than Haida lol. I didn’t like this ending of the show either, but somebody pointed out to me that perhaps they were trying to emphasise his emotional reality: that he isn’t ready to move on. And if viewed in this light, plus given the show’s awareness that Inui is a much better option, perhaps the next season will let Haida learn the consequences of his actions. Waiting to see how the show deals with this situation.
This sort of reminds me of how Retsuko missed out trying to get together with that Polar Bear guy.
The main problem I had with Inui is that she said “I know your choice” WHEN SOMEONE HE CARED ABOUT ALMOST DIED! Like bitch no shit she’s more important right now. SHE WAS IN DANGER AND ALMOST DIED
I think Inui was actually depressed at this point, her expressions through the episode says a lot, so yeah, she could say a thing or two. Still, she was pretty polite in this situation.
That's so true. Like he had to save someone he cared about because she almost got killed what did she wanted him to do? Let her get killed? And saving someone's life doesn't mean you're in love with them it just means you're a decent person.
I KNOW RIGHT!!!
💁🏿♀️😂😂😂
The show style is pretty simple so you can’t see the details of people’s facial expressions, but I think it was obvious to Inui when she saw the scene that he’d made his choice. Sometimes you just know
One thing I don’t understand is why Haida thought wearing a Freddy Kruger sweater was a good idea.

I think there is a big possibility Haida was written to have BPD. The Japanese creators admitted that Haida is written to be relatable to a female audience. Often females are the only ones in the media to be shown to have BPD, even though men are just as likely to suffer from BPD. Aggretsoku pushes the boundaries of how far they will take things psychologically. This season especially showed that they could have written Haida to have those personality traits. As a man with BPD I find Haida to be more relatable to me than someone like Rebecca from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. That scene were Haida admits why he fell for Retsuko is exactly how someone BPD can develop a favourite person. Btw I mean borderline personality disorder not bipolar disorder.
I also have BPD. It's rare it's portrayed in media and that I can relate to anyone. I still can't relate to people. That's just one thing that bugs me about being an adult living with mental illness.
@@Kakmanmartinez666 I feel you on that man 😔
@@ShinigamiWolf I can see Haida being BPD tho. It's so rare people talk about it
@@Kakmanmartinez666 His very low sense of cognitive empathy and high emotional empathy is relatable to BPD, but what really got me thinking that Haida could be borderline is when he explained why he fell for Retsuko, and how he loves Retsuko. There's almost no way they couldn't have gotten inspiration from someone with BPD developing a favourite person.
@@ShinigamiWolf I'm that way towards my fiance with the falling for Retsuko part. It's been 5 years and nothing will change how much I love him. He's my only "comfort" person tbh.
The last 2-3 episodes with Haida were frustrating. I didn't hate it [minus the stupid true love app point] but I wasn't a huge Inui fan, so while I feel bad for her, Haida not ending up with Inui didn't upset me that much either. I'm hoping the next season proves Haida wrong. Like he discovers Retsuko makes a better friend than girlfriend, then they break up, and while he's out, he sees Inui on a date with someone and learns she's engaged or something and it's a lesson on reality versus fantasy. Like, when you think about dating your crush, there's no arguing where to eat, or not wanting to watch the same thing. They love everything you love and there's zero conflict. I think the story arch with Tadano was a valuable lesson, so the writers [being hopeful here] wanted to show how it's not always a happy ending if you get your crush. I love Agggretsuko, but in all my rewatches, the only time Retsuko seemed the least bit affectionate towards Haida was when she was trying out the tips Tsunoda taught her to try and sweet talk Ton.
Well hopefully next season will flesh out that relationship with Haida and Retsuko.
Someone who practically ignores your existence only when it is convenient for them, is never the better choice.
She was never interested in him, despite his many attempts to assist and befriend her. Her thoughts on him are no more significant than what she had for dinner the night before.
Comparably his concern for her is as often and bright as the high noon. To chase someone this way for so long is foolish, it is not fair nor healthy.
Like he said in the video, "hes not even a friend of hers...just a coworker.."
@@MrKodachii if I’m being honest it seems kinda realistic. I’ve literally had to lay out what was basically an essay long roast of one of my friends for not being able to get over his romantic feelings for our other friend. Haida not getting over Retsuko, while immature, stupid, and unhealthy as all hell, does seem true to real life. And let’s not forget, Retusko asked him to hang out RIGHT after he made his mature choice. When people make choices, life changing ones that go against how they’ve been thinking/living for YEARS, it’s often VERY difficult to stay on that path, even if you’ve had ample time to think things through.
TL;DR Haida is a dumb dumb idiot man who’s frustrating to watch, but he’s realistic
Haida simply does not really like Inui. Just because we like her with him doesn’t mean he does or ever truly will. She’s a great character and deserves better than Haida. I do like Haida and Retsuko together BUT they both need a slow natural progression and a lot of growth on their ends
I felt the same way about this situation. Controversial statement coming: One thing I liked about Regular Show that Shippers hate is the hard truth that not every relationship we may desire is going to work out. Mordecai delt with two different relationships in the series, one being what he wanted and another being unexpected but also doable. In the end though he ends up with neither and marries a bat character at the end. What I liked about this is because it valued input from Mordecai's love interests. In most simple shows the relationship is set and everything works out. But life isn't like that. You may feel deep down you are meant to be with someone but that person might not even feel the same way as you do. Everyone has their own individuality and that makes any relationship complicated. Things aren't always going to be smooth and sometimes the best thing to do is to work on one's self so that if another opportunity does arise you will be in a better place and more mature to accept life's changes.
At the end, Mordecai is a simp.

Aggretsuko's biggest theme is private vs public identity. Retsuko is small, cute, timid, and responsible to the point of being crippling. At work. In private, she's a heavy metal thrasher. Season 1 had a great moment where you find out that Haida, the dependable coworker and loser at love, you see in the last episode he's punk. In private. Private vs public. The real person, versus the perforamnce they play in public. I could give a bunch more, but you get the idea. (Hippo lady being arrested for espionage charges, is my personal favorite.)
Haida never knew about Retusko's private persona. He thought he did when he saw the Idle show, and that's when he ultimately decided to go with Inui. The connective tissue that actually makes his choice of Retsuko work, for me, is the fact that the Inui presented to Haida was a performance. We never got to really see the real version of her, except for hints that she's a bit on the cold and calculating side. Not to a villainous degree, but just enough to drive home the theme.
Then it's the fault of Haida for not trying to dig and discover who Inui really is, right? Thing is, I don't think he's capable of doing so. /That/ is why I think it makes sense he went back to Retsuko. The phone app was tweaked with by Donkey Elon Musk just to say what everyone already knows. The thing he learned at the end of Season 2: That the person who can meaningfully connect to Retsuko, is Haida.
That's how I see it. I think Shady is looking at Aggretsuko as a real and critical view on office life, and modern living. In which case, yes you go for Inui what the hell is wrong with you? I've always viewed it in the terms of its theme I listed above. Could they have bridged the gap between the two concepts better? Sure. It just didn't bother me, is all.
Wait wouldn't he be donkey Bill Gates? He even poses with an apple on the covers of magazines
I haven't seen the entire show, but the "Sounds chicken to me!" sounds harsh; basically the last thing a traumatized individual should hear.
The karaoke room is no place for sensitivity. Only the complete and earnest bearing of one's soul is acceptable!
But I agree, it was a bit harsh. The entire Haida aspect of season 3 was off. I think they were trying to show that Haida finally found his balls, but like Shady said, he did Inui so dirty. >:(
Yeah. When I saw it I got so angry. It felt like a cheesy 2000s kdrama. Even the latest ones are more tactical with these themes and more mental health. So for them to make him sing that was f up. Even the Japanese dub is the same. He doesn’t say chicken but says “ain’t that much easy?” Or something along the lines. Is f up
i watched the whole show and i was really disgusted at haida when he said that
That's only in the English version. I forget what was said in the Japanese version but it was a lot more innocuous than that.
@@Fairygoblet Watched it and it says “such a nice life you got”. Which is still cruel
Personally, I liked that the show took this path. I think it's more realistic. Haida has been pining over Retsuko for years. He can't magically make his feelings disappear. Life isn't always fair and people aren't always going to pick the person who treats them the best. While I love Inui, she definitely deserves better than some dude who isn't over another woman.
Inui was a red herring and a plot device.
Her finding Retsuko's doiley was contrived and it annoyed me how she just LEAVES without confronting Haida. She just assumed the worst and left. WE know it was Retsuko's...But Inui just assumes Haida was two-timing her. Which he wasn't. Yes he has feelings for Retsuko but he only taught her how to play Bass.
Inui is too perfect for Haida. You said so yourself that she's perfect. He said so himself that it was learning Retsuko wasn't perfect that made him feel he had a shot.
I think it was more that she wanted that day to be just the two of them. And many woman can be territorial more with their crush (I’m giving my input as a cisgender woman). Also she knew he used to like her. It was super obvious even fenneko knew. So in her mind all she could probably think was “if he always has her around how can I know he will get over her?” Inui tried to make him open up to her which she did sort of. For the attack I noticed it was more how he took the hit for her without caring of what it could’ve done to him. And more the look he gave to Retsuko. Not of a concerned friend but a protective lover. Anyone would’ve broken down at it.
Although I feel the writers did f up the last bits of this seasons ngl
@@dcscruz2970 I could see that being the case, but for all Inui knew that may have been Haida's mother, sister, cousin, anyone's doiley. She just sees it, assumes he's seeing someone else, and leaves without saying anything. Even if her suspicions were right and Haida was cheating (nevermind they were not yet in a relationship) that's REALLY petty and rude of Inui to do. Imagine if you suspected a guy you were into was seeing someone else, and rather than confront him, you just walk out. That would reflect very badly on you acting on a mere assumption without even trying to get the truth from him. She didn't even bother to confront him or ask for an explanation, she just walked out.
Inui was new and even if Haida being into Retsuko is an open secret at the office, Inui had no way of knowing that was Retsuko's doiley. It's also common knowledge that Retsuko only sees Haida as a friend and very out of character for her to visit him at his place. I feel like the writers just wanted to have that scene where Inui asks Haida if he likes her, so they had her act out of character (rude and suspicious) to make it happen.
The scene where Haida admits he'd have chosen Retsuko happened much later. Still it was really bad for Inui to put Haida on the spot after Retsuko was just ATTACKED and hit her head. Calling the ambulance was good but pretty callous she just walks off when her co-worker might be seriously hurt and she'd be a valuable witness to get the stalker locked up. Imagine doing that in real life, washing your hands of your co-workers when one of them could be seriously hurt...Just because you had to accept the guy didn't choose you.
@@PlanetZoidstar you are right, but I still don't like Haida or his "nice guy" vibe... He and Retsuko are not a good match at all (and I kinda thought that the app's "perfect match" was something Tadano tampered, "from a nice guy to another" thing)
@@m.v.gonzalez5575 I like Haida, but I don't like how he simps for Retsuko when she's shown zero interest in him. The way he dragged her to the karaoke parlour and shoved the app in her face made him come across VERY badly to me. I don't know if the writers intended it, but it made it look like Haida was taking advantage of Retsuko while she was in a vulnerable state. Then the "sounds chicken to me" made it seem he was victim-blaming her.
Negging you might say.
@@PlanetZoidstar Exactly! Eh Haida just needs to realize Fenneko is the better choice.
All in all I think Haida does push things a bit too far, but then again having a friend that'll grab your arm and drag your ass outside when you're at your lowest? It's a double edged sword but I'd rather have that friend that attends to me, rather than leaves me alone because of some unspoken personal space that I never asked for.

@@shadekerensky3691 don’t you guys mean Inui? Am I missing something?
@@Verse_Jumper interesting take. It does make sense.
I agree with your argument, but I like so many others will let it slide for this show. It's a mature theme to move on, yes. However, the show has presented the possibility of Haida and Retsuko getting together since season 1. Even Retsuko in the Japanese dub during the coffee scene in season 3 agrees that Inui is a better choice for Haida.
The thing is, they both have a lot more in common then one would think. Much more. To put it simple, Inui is a great girl for Haida but Haida is not the best match for Inui. Even if he did choose her, he likes her but it is apparent he does not love her. And that in itself is also an important lesson, even if someone is the right match for you, even if so many around you say you two are great together, sometimes you just don't click that way.
As a guy who's been in Haida's position of being coworker zoned I kinda get that attachment to the idea of somebody who's cute/nice you interact with daily becoming a romantic interest. It's nice to daydream about being in a relationship with someone like that but he honestly did go kinda far in the last few episodes. If I had an Inui in my situation I personally probably would have dropped the initial pursuit and gone after the one who showed interest but hey that's just me.
Yeah haida got super creepy it was so weird how he wouldn’t take no for an answer
I think it's important to mention that the show is not yet over, It's entirely possible that the next season will "punish" Haida for the decisions he's made. My guess is that Haida and Retsukos relationship doesn't work out in the end, then he will realize he was never meant to be with Retsuko in the first place and that he made the wrong decision choosing her over Inui
I still feel pushing retsuko out when she needed more time than just months. Those who suffer from SA or almost dying take years to recover. Again. Years. Not months. Is not an action anime is a slice of life show.
Except Retsuko wasn’t doing any kind of self care to help her recover. She was hiding alone in a room in the dark and doom scrolling in her phone. She wasn’t getting therapy (because Japan) and she would have been let go from her job. Everything in her life would have fallen away or left her behind. She needed friend intervention ASAP.

"I never forget anything except the stuff I can't remember" is a whole-ass mood
I think that part of what I like about that arc is that Haida wasn't in love with Inui, he wasn't over Retsuko and it wasn't fair to Inui for him to pretend or try to force a relationship he didn't actually see going anywhere. I think Haida needs to actually get over Retsuko but I don't think he actually did with Inui.
The english version has different dialogue from the japanese it seems. In the japanese Haida says that he would've picked Inui over Retsuko, but after seeing her stare he realizes she can't believe that and apologizes for it but it was pretty much him still "Acting like a kid" (the translation is not that precise, the word used in context means more like an immature guy) again so that is why Enui ends up pissed and doesn't give him another chance
Edit: Yup, seeing the song part it is a whole different show. That is good, time for me to watch the english dub
Rewatching Aggretsuko from time to time, I put subtitles over the dub to see dialogue differences.
Definitely gives different backgrounds but it does make an interesting distinction.
Sub: (Haida) knows he’s lying on his preference and apologizes to Inui.
Dub: Unsure of his decision but before trying to reassure Inui, reaffirms himself that he prefers Retsuko.
Honestly, I like that Haida made the decision to continue to go after Retsuko, rather than pursue Inui. The reason I like it is because like you said, Inui would have been the RIGHT choice. I like that this show genuinely frames Heida as a flawed, sometimes problematic character. Too many shows would simply take the safe route. Aggretsuko didn't, and I respect that.
You know what I find, in retrospect, very interesting?
Haida is basicaly a shoujo heroine torn between the nice guy and the bad boy, except it's gender reversed.
And he falls for the usual "I can fix him/her" mentality
And yes, Inui is a good girl who did nothing wrong, she would have won if not for the bad timing.

You may think that is what you needed at the moment but if it is someone that does it for selfish reasons rather to try to help you out, It could make you feel worse. The problem is not the action, rather the intention of said actions in such situations.
I can see both sides of it honestly. I agree with the point Shady was making that the way Haida went about the situation wasn't great. There's a difference between a friend trying to support you through a difficult time because they care about you and Haida's Ted Mosby like obsession with Retsuko. @@gregorythestallion2984 Agreed. It's a horrible take to see this positively.
They BETTER redeem him this upcoming season and bring him to his senses. Retsuko has good qualities, sure, but she's always so wishy washy and never commits to anything. So that's already a huge red flag when it comes to a relationship.
So…how did you like the newest season 🫣😬
@@chey6073 tbh Haida completely changed in the latter half of the season, the dating arc was rushed, and its the worst Aggretsuko season by far. The ending was also so unrealistic! Plus, Retsuko and her gang are correct about vague assumptions they make about Haida cooking the books because he *stays at the office late* and I feel as if Retsuko being subtly blamed for Ton quitting was unnecessary because her recording of events was true. There's a lot more to say but s4 was the worst season (most fans I've met agree).
The part with Inui really hurt me low-key. I tend to empathize a lot and I just thought of how it felt to fall for someone who still is hung up on their past flame. I'm the type to show my heart and like, a good percentage of the times I do that, I get hurt. I hate that about myself
Ok the part when he called her a chicken for being in fear from that attack at the airport pissed me off. As someone who's been in a situation similar to that, it would piss me off if someone told me to "man up" or something of the sort. Trauma doesn't get resolved in a week. Not even a year. It's been a year since I was S.A in my home by someone I thought I trusted and knew. Sorry to vent but yeah. I tend to empathize with people a lot
I think the japanese line was different
Pretty sure the translation is shit
In the Japanese it was way different

I'm so excited to see your take on season 4.
Season 4 dropped recently and it's basically a "will they, won't they" between Haida and Retsuko. I haven't finished it yet because I get exhausted because I get so annoyed with them. Haida and Retsuko is a bad pair and I'm tired of the show both pushing towards it and pushing against it at the same time.
Bro I'm in episode 5 and I seriously wanted Haida to move on. He can't stop simping for her, and worse is that he's too much of coward to even communicate with her. He regressed.
You don't like who you don't like and is cruel to try if the other person is invested in you, Haida didn't like her, he wanted to like her because all were there to be easy, he was uncomfortable when she tried to be intimate, because he doesn't felt really attracted, also in the other side of things you don't have to like anyone just because that person is super into you, you don't own them that, is even a very bad message to give if trama was written to be educational and not about character conflicts. It is the same with Retsuko, she doesn't have to like Haida either, she may after him breaking the just work friends relationship jumping into her problems, and becoming a real friend, but she may not, and thats ok to. Is a thing we have to see. Also Inui personality was "I kind girl, I like that music disk you like to" it was obvious she was made to be a plot dog, literally, the writers clearly knew where they were going from the start with her, is not even a lot to get that invested with her character :/. I don't get why the public cared so much for her, she is still more a device for the story to happen than a character. Maybe next season they will give her more development, that would be cool. Also I been that friend confronting my troubled friend, but I get you have to see when is helping and when not, fun fact, the English voice actor for Haida felt the same about he jumping into Retsukko room and pushing her out to confront her, he didn't like it, how well he did the acting proves how good he is as an actor. I like what Haida did, by the way. xD
I saw a interview with the actor who plays him that talks more about the stuff he talks about in this video

True.

"In fact I'll be in the getaway car." Shady and Inui shipping art when?
Some rebuttals.
you answered your own question of why he can't be with inui. it takes time to grow feelings for someone. while it also takes time to get over heartbreak over someone.
if he had chosen inui, it wouldn't have been right or fair to her. the entire time he'd be in a relationship with her, she'd have to fight retsuko for his heart. my husband was in a relationship like that, being the one in inui's shoes, and he broke up with that girl because he knew he was second fiddle.
Using someone else to get over heart break isn't right or fair to the person you are using.
also, I'd argue sometimes you do have to pull a person out of a funk like haeda did for retsuko.
When my husband and I first started dating and learning about each other again, I had to do that for him. I would let him open up himself, 98% of the time, but sometimes, for his sake, I had to put my foot down and steer him in the right direction.
I pushed him to go to therapy when he refused. I pushed him to tap into his feeling for me, and he was finally able to face his fear of commitment and admit he was in love with me. I pushed him to get medical attention when he didn't want to but was in desperate need. He didn't want me taking care of him when he was sick but I showed up at his door, made my way in his apartment, and cooked for him and took care of him. while I prefer he let me in, there are times where he desperately needed help tearing those walls down and I had to do it.
and all of this happened when we just started dating, not even 6 months into our relationship.
Sometimes a person like haeda is what someone like retsuko needs. haeda has been gently asking and been ignored the entire series. Now retsuko desperately needs help, and he's putting his foot down and giving her a wake up call and steering her in the right direction.
don't get me wrong, overwhelming majority of the time no one should do this in the relationships. but as someone who had to do it myself, with the man who is now my husband, sometimes, *sometimes* these things need to be done. and I think this was one of those times.
either way, I look forward to the next season, that's coming in December
This video still has aged very well
Okay but...wasn't it stated that the dating app was only in beta testing? There's not exactly that large of a selection of potential soulmates for the app to choose
The earlier developments with Inui did always feel a tad rushed to me but yeahh Haida shouldve given her more of a chance
There's a podcast TeamFourStar has up on their main channel where they talk about the 3 seasons with Ben Diskin (Haida's eng VA) as a guest.
There, Ben expresses that while recording, he was confused and even upset with how Haida was written.
Talkcast Podshow Ep. 35 if you're interested in giving it a listen.
Bruh the entire point that Haida is chasing someone not interested in him is literally mirrored in you trying to push him towards another person he's not interested in fully, someone he had a passing attraction to based mostly on the fact she pursued him.
You're doing exactly what he's doing but for Inui.
As someone who relates to Retsuko an insane amount and has personally known people like Haida before, this whole subplot bothered me so insanely much. I despise a character they could have genuinely gotten me to root for all because of season 3.
Inui was set up for shippers to hate her even though she was the most mature in the show. I hated this season!
I feel like This show is about learning to be complacent and shooting down opportunities.
Because if you look at some of the situations starting with the main character, her goal originally was to leave her crappy job for a better life. She met the purple kangaroo dude who was legit rich. And she turned him down only because he told her to quit her job and they couldn’t get married. And the fact they discussed marriage so early in the relationship, I would of turned her down too when she said that. I’m sure if they really worked out he would of made her happy and married her after seeing how much it meant to her. Also she was upset she had to quit her job too which was weird. Then the rockstar thing happened and I thought it was perfect because she likes to sing, and it was making her money and her other singers, and she seemed to enjoy them more than her coe workers. Then she let it go to return to work. I feel like if Haida took no for an answer she would of went back to singing after she found new determination to not let the stalker win.
I feel like in the end she’s going to end up marrying Haida and become a manager at her job.
She was spending multiple days in his car like a hostage while he had no idea how Retsuko feels, she is down to earth while he is already in space. And we had already seen how much Retsuko is willing to tolerate in season 1 with the plant fanatic as long as she's wearing her rose tinted glasses, i cannot imagine living the Bachelor lifestyle long-term
Edit: it is implied multiple times in the show that she might make it big in her job, but that does not nessecarily mean its at the same company (post Pon rap battle, Pons speech in season 1 when Retsuko was “useless“)
Becoming a manager of her job IS an opportunity.
Retsuko has her priorities. Work, love, marriage. Tadano was only prepared to give her one of these at any point. He made it clear that he was philosophically opposed to marriage, it wasn't just a matter of not being ready.
You misunderstood season 2. She could’ve left the job she hated to be with him sure but the way he insulted her job and even her dreams of getting married was insensitive. He literally says “In a future where people are no longer needed to work people can pursue their dreams instead of wasting their time in things they hate” makes her feel her work is useless. And the marriage she gets serious once she hears the hippo girl and the pig boss talk of their families. She wants to get married, settle and have kids. But Tadano never wanted to. He literally says “why marry when two people being together is enough?”. Even when she sings in the karaoke he interrupts her. He did love her and they would’ve been perfect but the fact she didn’t feel as an equal and her dreams where nothing but old fashioned jokes to him is what drove her away. In early stages of dating you do ask your interested partner about family, marriage or so. Not if you would marry me but what are their thoughts. She only mentions it cause an article written about them mentions about them maybe getting married by how close they are and he quickly shot the thing down faster than a hunter in deer season
@@dcscruz2970I think you are misunderstanding season 2. I personally don't see how he was insulting her job or calling it useless. Tadano just said that some jobs will be replaced and then you wouldn't have to suffer through ones that make you unhappy. He was offering to support her so she had time to do whatever she truly wanted, but that wasn't something that she personally wanted. Also he wasn't inherently judging how others live and want to get married, he was merely expressing how his worldview works. Some people think legal marriage is important and others don't. They had fundamental differences in values so it wouldn't have worked out anyway.
Discussing things like relationship expectations early is very mature as it doesn't waste the time of either party. It sets the track for what is expected of the relationship and what are deal breakers without needlessly getting too attached and causing more heartbreak on avoidable issues.
@@supercat9784 He is a talented boy genius. While retsuko is more of the common girl to say. He wasn’t a bad boyfriend quite the opposite. But his ideals didn’t match her. And more how he saw things in a “but everyone will find a way to live even better!!”. A true dreamer. Which makes their communication become odd and he seeming kinda dismissal of her feelings. Is like dating a guy who’s younger or a cultural clash couple. Sadly while he might think he’s just being honest he hurt her and didn’t notice since he was looking somewhere else. With him it seems like he’s always looking beyond the horizon while retsuko doesn’t. I’m glad it helped her realized what she truly wants in life. I wished we had Tadano be back as a love interest since I found them cute but alas.
I love how you think Haida and Inui's relationship dramas are actually over, in a show that's proved that it loves wallowing in complications. That ending we saw---by now everyone should know there's more wacky hijinks and curveballs to come. Haida is an idiot, yes...but he's far from the only one, and there's no guarantee that there's any reward in his future.
And I wished Retsuko had stayed a musician since she seemed more happy. And the girls were amazing. I wished it had been the bunny girl saving her and the one pulling her away from closing inside her home. It would’ve been better and more fitting for the themes on season 3 about change. For her to act like an adult or better said act for her own self benefit and not just be emotionally dependable on others.
I would've loved Retsuko to stay an idol, but the sad reality is that being famous means handling hate and Retsuko couldn't handle it. She was getting energy and joy from the positivity she was bringing people, but one extremely negative person was enough to zap all that from her and even push her to the other end. All jobs come with their pros and cons that people have to be able to deal with and Retsuko clearly couldn't handle the cons of fame.
@@ShadyDoorags Yeah. But even an indie artist would’ve been enough. Since I feel she never as enough self love for me to even see her being in love with someone on an equal footing. That’s why I hated the Haida last episodes. It feels co dependent.
@@ShadyDoorags I still think she could've always gone back to being backstage and hidden like before, it was the leopard dude's idea to make her a singer. She the happiest when she was the band accountant, though, using her skills in a musical field she still loved.

Honestly I hope they never get together. While I could see them working well together, it's way too one-sided to be enjoyable to watch.
I mean this man has had a crush on her for HALF A DECADE, and isn't even her friend. Like how does this man not realize that she doesn't like him all that much?
At this point I just want to see him actually move on with his life.
While this review has absolutely stellar points, I think it misses the fact that it was implied that Tadano rigged the app to make Haida and Retsuko a perfect match, and his words to Haida afterwards suggest that he did it because Haida wouldn't have gotten up the courage to be more active in his pursuit otherwise
(......even though he'd already been rejected. But that's another can of worms)

100% agree. And it's not like a dumb love struck idiots like Haida can't actually exist, it's just that his character arc like you said, was much more interesting if he stuck with Inui; his persistent pursue of Retsuko feels very fan-servicy, and don't even get me started on the new season trailer!! I wonder if we're gonna get some Retsuko in this series called "Aggretsuko" lmao. Gotta love when the dude becomes the protagonist of the female lead story

Thank you!!!! I had the exact issue!!!! I was so happy to see Haida have some character growth! It was refreshing! Then they took it all away!
Welp, this all aged well after S4.
I don't even remember what happened in season 4 because it sucked.
Fun fact! The woman who voiced Inui sang the smash bros ultimate song.
i hope you watch season 4 and rage against haida again, i need to know I'm not alone in hating his arc, his lack of backbone, and the writers need to try an make me sympathize with him despite being 100% in the wrong yet again for another entire season
Tbh this is the one season that made me hate Retsuko. They are both incredibly toxic together and Haida last season made me dislike him, this season I can’t stand Retsuko. Especially when she slapped Haida (like she’s any better)
I've never understood why this has become such a common trope in any media involving romance. The situation where Guy likes Girl A who doesn't share the same feelings while Girl B likes Guy all the while Guy still goes for Girl A despite the unshared feelings but the ship ultimately sails because plot. WTF?
@8:58 I think an interesting thing to point out here is at this moment in the original Japanese, he actually says he would pick Inui, but Inui could tell that he wouldn't really ever love her so she keeps walking.
Honestly? This all seems pretty realistic, at least to me. I haven’t watched the show in a bit, but this take down reminded me of an event that happened in my life recently.
One of my friends had been rejecting our other friend for MONTHS, but he kept pursuing him despite being told MULTIPLE times. I had to basically write an essays worth of shit calling him out, and I still don’t know if he’ll stay true to his word when he says he’ll stop. While this situation is a little different than Haida’s, he too is infatuated with someone who’s already rejected him once before. And let’s not forget, Retsuko messaged him RIGHT after he started his journey of trying to move on from her.
Who among us (😳) have made tough choices that we were able to stick with, unfaltering, RIGHT after a revelation or epiphany? Probably not too many, and while it is possible to accomplish, its much easier to fall back on our way of living/thinking than go down the hard path, even if it’s often the right one.
What I’m trying to get at is that while Haida’s decision was stupid, it was a fairly realistic one, especially considering for how long and how hard he had been infatuated his Retsuko. Haida had been in love with her well before the series even started, and we’ve spent **two whole seasons** watching him fall head over heels for her practically every time he’s around her. If anything, sticking to his guns and choosing Inui over Retsuko would have been the less realistic option.
Now, am I trying to defend Haida? No. If he were a real person I’d tell him he’s demonstrously idiotic, and he needs to get his act together. However, his portrayal seems fairly realistic in my opinion, based on my own experiences.
Also, it’s easier to create drama over stuff like this lmao
Like, it was a writing choice to have Retsuko message him at the exact moment he decided to get over her. It was a decision for that to happen WHILE he was dating someone else. The writers clearly want there to be SOMETHING to happen between these two, and they’re going to write their way through hell and back if that’s what it takes to get themselves there.
It would have been nice to see him get with Inui. Hell, if we’re talking in terms of what would have been the best for him at that moment, then Inui should have been the ONLY romantic interest in his life. But if we’re giving Haida that treatment, then we should be doing the same with Tadona, or that other red panda that Retsuko dated who I can’t be bothered to learn the name of at the moment. They both made stupid decisions that costed them a perfectly good relationship with a person who would have treated them great, but they didn’t. The only reason we don’t get more upset over these guys is because we haven’t known them as long as we’ve known Haida. We haven’t seen how their minds work as well, and we haven’t been following them since the beginning.
The story doesn’t want Retsuko or Haida to be with someone else. The story wants to show the struggles and hardships that Haida and Retsuko face in their journey of being together, and if that involves stupid shit like Haida breaking an innocent girls heart because he was too much of a coward of being confident with his choices, then so be it
Point is, Haida is a dumb dumb stupid idiot man, but a fairly realistic one. The story want Retsuko x Haida to have some ground to stand on, and it’s trying to figure out how to get them there in a way that makes sense.
The story clearly knows when to call Haida out, and we haven’t seen how him and Retsuko are going to interact moving forward. If I had to guess, the pair will likely spend more time together, and Haida will have to learn to actually make decisions on his own, because so far, it’s mostly been the plot making choices for him. Whether you like this arc or is entirely your own thoughts and opinions, but that is make take and my personal defense of it.
I am a communist. Goodnight
Ohhh maybe next season Haida realizes she isn’t the one as Restuko starts to have some feelings for him? I dunno
Oh god that scenario. I was actually theorizing with my friends how season 4 would be about moving on from your mistakes so the moment retsuko gets feelings for haida he starts feeling for fenneko. A sort of "you had 5 years to get to know him" and "its been 5 years. Yet here you have this awesome friend always by your side and at your sorst"
I would hate that to be honest. It kinda shows constantly perusing someone as a good thing when it’s really borderline possessive. I hope they end up single or with other people
I guess I can understand why it’s so hard for Haida to get over retsuko. But at the same time Haida doesn’t realize what he feels isn’t love but strong infatuation. It’s hard to get over those feelings because infatuation is a very strong emotion. But when you need to get over that infatuation, the best thing to do is distance yourself from that person for awhile. Haida isn’t able to give himself the time to do that though because he works with her. The only other way Haida can truly move on is by having retsuko tell him they cannot and will never be more than friends and tell him to move on. Chances are that won’t happen because retsuko doesn’t even know what she wants. She’s being pressured by everyone around her to give Haida a chance but it feels like she kinda just isn’t into it, but she’ll try to convince herself that she is. It’s never good to be in a pity relationship, because when you realize you don’t like that person in that way the guilt will tear you apart, end you’ll just end up hurting them.
And then season 4 just makes it so much worse.
I feel like I'm the only one angry at Haida over something completely different
While yes, all the criticism about his actions towards Inui and Retsuko are completely valid
What DESTROYED his character for me was the way he mocked Retsuko for having completely VALID PTSD after almost being freaking MURDERED
"Sounds chicken to me"
Including making clucking noises
There's "tough love" and than there's completely disregarding someone's feelings
Which btw
He did this directly after Retsuko called him out for not actually knowing her and making a situation where SHE almost died about his feelings
I love Inui so much she was so sweet and mature.

After watching Season 4 I can see what you mean (and watching changed my opinion of Haida). Shame it was such a nice character.
Funny how stuff happens. I watched this series trough like a week ago and here Shady is presenting a video about it.
I love how aggretsuko is adult animation but doesn’t focus on sex, or drugs or heavy heavy drinking, and maybe even “racist” or insulting humor, it’s nice because if you search adult animation on Hulu or something the first thing that comes up is Family Guy, then The Cleveland show, then American dad and so on. The “problem” with those is that they’re “nasty” and highly “inappropriate”, UNLIKE aggretsuko.
anyways.
TCS,AD:what the hell could be the difference between aggretsuko and me?
the difference is, aggretsuko isn’t mid.
Oh boy, if you thought Haida was bad already, wait till season 4.
Season 5 is awful! You'll hate the ending.
@@breanntheartist1989 I watched some reviews and wasn't that crazy about it. They get married, but from what I saw it was underwhelming. Season 3, was a good enough ending for me.
I love Haida and still do, but good lord this season made me so mad. I'd very much prefer an ending where Haida and Retsuko don't end up with each other and are happy with other people. Inui definitely deserves better she was done wrong and I wanna see her get into the happy relationship she deserves later in the series.
Haven't watched this show but I sympathize with Haida. If nothing else from a writing perspective this represents actual love triangles.
I understand Haida's choice for not going with Inui because he just didn't spark with her, even though she was perfect for him which sucks. That's a real life situation.
I'm more disappointed that after they did such an amazing plot point of Retsuko leaving Tadano for not wanting to get married bc that's what SHE wanted, they make Haida STILL go after Retsuko and she magically gets feelings for him?? But then when they "date" to get to know eachother better, they grow apart. Retsuko sees Tadano behind Haida's back and they just seem disconnected.
Idk I was just not into this season sadly, even though it my fave animated series. We can only see what happens in the future, I am excited for where they take it. Who knows, maybe they got something awesome that will come from their choices!
What Haida did at the end of season 3 was to purposely provoke Retsuko to "fight back"
You're right about a lot. Haida follows his heart, but it creates more stress.
I love the part when a vegetable ask a question , because he know some one would have told that question
I hated what u stated at the beginning of the video but i decided to keep watching to hear what u gotta say and god damn i needed to hear it. I’m guilty of wanting my ship to end up together and work through all their problems and face the hurdles together. But itd be so toxic and impossible to work out in a REAL life relationship. Gotta remind myself that there is writers behind it and sometimes they do spread these negative and unrealistic expectations.
sometimes you need that person to force you to face your fears, there are some people completely incapable of getting past something by themselves and there's plenty of evidence that Retsuko is that kind of person.
But someone you don’t want in your personal life, is probably the last one you want help from. Especially if you know they have feelings for you, you rejected them, and they keep pursuing.
That person was NOT Haida. Barging into someone's room after they have been traumatized is the wrong thing to do.
You know when its serious when he quotes steven universe or Fairy godparents
Can I just say that I love your analyses, despite disagreeing with a fair amount of points. You come across as sensible and incredibly entertaining. Plus, I'm super happy to have found a youtuber that doesn't curse or use God's name in vain. Keep up the work my dude, you're a gem.
My only complaint about Inui (as a person) is how she asked Haida to make his decision on the spot after he just got stabbed in the hand while Retsuko was unconscious on the floor.
11:45 YES THANK YOU. This turned me off so bad I just stopped watching the show after that, which was a bummer because I really liked season 3 for the most part. I just really couldn't stand the way they built up the traumatic incident for Retsuko and then didn't actually resolve it in a way that was empathetic and satisfying so neither the characters nor viewers felt real catharsis. Instead, it feels like the writers ran out of time and just wanted to end the season with Haida being a love interest again without really caring too much about if that actually made sense with the rest of the story or not. So annoying, it made me not trust the writers to be honest. That catharsis over getting justice or resolution from being mistreated has been a running theme in the whole show, and it's such a shame to see them drop the ball so hard here. From what I heard about s4, they have not picked up the ball again unfortunately, maybe s5 will surprise us.🤷♀
To be completely honest, I was also a Haida and Retsuko person (hell I cried when he saved her from that asshole stalker), but there was a side of me that wanted inui, (correct me if I pronounced this wrong) to have a chance with Haida. After seeing multiple reasons why, I actually started to agree. I don’t know if it’s because I am not an adult and I couldn’t understand or if I just ignored that and went with what aggretsuko is about to people.
Now I am starting to wish inui got together with Haida, like they had a lot in common and all the points in the video were valid.
Man, I really want you to delve on haida's situation in the latest season
