Exactly what I was thinking. Apple has an entire event themed around ‘Apple Intelligence’ - and not one of their products has it! In other news - their iPad line up has become confusing, as are the Macs. Poor old Steve. I’m a hardcore Apple fan with everything Apple but I adore the S9’s design and feature and I do think Apple is lacking in a lot of features. Siri 2.0 should be out for a while now and not having Apple Intelligence in older devices because they didn’t future proof it even though they were working on AI for over 5 years was a huge miss. I’m disappointed at Apple.

I just used this feature and pointed it to a copy of a famous painting and it says "I can't help with images that have people in them yet". Even though I said what painting is this as a question. As soon as you have what looks to be a person in any image it says it can not help. The efforts by google to make the system politically correct and avoid accidentally offending someone is also holding back progress.

The reason I prefer Siri, as limited as Siri is, is because you can summon Siri using just your voice no matter what state your phone is in. Hands-free interactions are enormously convenient.

Very informative and great analysis of Apple's upcoming AI situation. They got caught on their heels, while other companies are throwing out alotta features that will be underutilized. I'm an Apple guy and I love these roll outs by Google! At the same time I recognize the standard Google has been replaced by an opaque marketplace they continuously curate.
It is clear to me that Apple should cut out this year's mobile phones and postpone the launch until next year when their AI is ready for the market - including the market outside the US. We who live outside the US have to wait much longer for Apple AI than you who live in the US.
The difference is on device vs cloud. Google is going to the cloud for almost all their operations. I want as much as possible to be on my device. Apple has promised this to us (of course they need to go to the cloud for certain things). I just trust Apple more with my data.

Google doesn't quite do this, because it's not about the experience - it's about the on-device and secure processing which keeps all your private information off the servers unless you choose otherwise. While this probably won't be important to most Android users and some Apple users - it is the reason why it is still groundbreaking, even if delayed. This is why there are device restrictions, it takes significant hardware to operate on-device in a way that offers a good experience. While this piece is interesting, it seems intentionally misleading.

Much of what Apple showcased is already accessible through Google apps on an iPhone without OS integration, which raises data privacy and regulatory concerns for the EU. Visual Intelligence does look smarter being able to solve problems with ChatGPT etc. and it will be much better with full integration in iOS. But yes it is very downplayed because Google lens and plenty of AI features already exist

Google glass is not at all what Meta announced. Meta announced a true mixed reality computer in a normal glasses format. The Rayban is simple glasses with Meta AI in it. What Google Glass was a text and minor icon overlay on top of a glass.
