Alexander Corvinus was the sole survivor of a plague that ravaged his realm when he came to power in the 5th Century AD. As Singe (the Lycan scientist working for Lucian) explained before he died by Viktor's hand, Alexander's body was somehow able to the mould the disease to serve his benefit thereby becoming immortal. The twin sons he sired, Markus and William were meant to continue his legacy. But when Markus was bitten by a bat and William was wounded by a wolf in the same manner, it all went south. Also I'd like to note as to what Singe said about how the vampires and werewolves were seemingly poised to destroy each other on a cellular level without the Corvinus blood to insure a perfect union between the two species. Namely with how it would've affected Lucian's relationship with Viktor's daughter Sonja and the child they conceived together, if they had received Viktor's blessing instead of his wrath. Given that both Lucian and Sonja were not direct descendants of Alexander Corvinus, I predict that complications would've arisen for both mother and child. Complications that would have left both Viktor and Lucian mired in grief.

Viktor was a powerful noble who had an army that Marcus needed to help get his brother under control. Part of the deal is Marcus would turn Viktor into a vampire, who in turn turned his nobles and army into vampires to help get William under control. And of course the nobles and army are loyal to Viktor, He's the one who took charge of the whole situation and Marcus had to fall in line and do what Viktor wants. Its mentioned in the book that follows this movie, books are better sources for backstory info.
So, to answer your question on what Selene became, Alexander was the first immortal human and did not have weaknesses to either UV or silver and since later generation Vampires and Lycans are weaker, drinking Alexander's blood not only puts them at equal strength as the twins, but it also eliminates any hereditary weaknesses. Selene is now a Vampire - Corvinus hybrid. Michael is a Lycan dominant hybrid. Marcus was a Vampire dominant hybrid. Had William been bitten before his death, he would have become a Lycan dominant hybrid similar to Michael. I hope you continue with the series because it will answer more questions and fill in the gaps.
You definitely should check out “Van Helsing” (2004) after this trilogy. Not only is it a beautiful homage to the classic universal monsters but it also has the BEST portrayal of the Werewolf to this day.

Markus was also brought out of "hibernation" but with lycan, not vampire, blood from Singe the doctor. It would appear that biting will turn you into a vampire or wolf depending on who bit you. The blood seems to be a vehicle for past memories, antibodies, infections, and just the thing to get you back on your feet after a few centuries sleeping. 😁
Watch all of them as o you see the whole story if you want I thought Underworld evolution. Add more action. Then rise of then lycans its up to you you get really into these movies your adorable and fun plus your easy on the eyes what the hell im vain
remember Marcus is a decendant of Corvinus so the same blood that allowed Michael to be a hybrid is the same blood that allowed Marcus to be a hybrid. Thats why Michael looks more like a wolf because he was a werewolf first and Marcus looks more like a bat because he was a vampire first.

Lucian was a popular character and he died in the first one so they brought him back to tell his story, *Selene is NOT part of it,* just something to consider in case you want to skip it or watch it after the others, it’s still entertaining though, but after that we pick up on Selene’s story again with the following movies.

Michael is the human strain, and I guess there are vampire children, and lycan children as well. Being born a vampire must be tragic, you would probably live underground in a big commune or inside a mountain or some such.
The story ran like this: Corvinus was transformed by the plague into an immortal. He had 3 sons. One bitten by bat, one bitten by wolf, the third one went on in the path of mortality. Michael is the descendant of the third son.
Honestly the jump in gore from the first to this is just whoa. Watching that Lycan chew into that vampires face at the start caught me off guard the first time I watched it 😂

my english is not very strong but there you go as someone quite familiar with the world of film, I'll try to explain a lot of things without giving away the other three films, the story- Hungarian warlord Alexander Corvinus is the only survivor of a deadly plague that destroys everyone in his village. In him, the infection mutates and turns him into the first Immortal (a separate race of which he is the only 100% immortal, according to many theories, probably true, he is the strongest creature, but he, unlike his sons, does not want to use his powers, lives in secret and tries to hide his sons' races from ordinary people) at some point he finds a human wife and has three children who are half immortal and half human, one wants and remains human, the other two become a new race, one becomes a werewolf the other a vampire, unlike in the future then the werewolves are wild and threaten to destroy everything, that's why marcus gives his powers to victor and then to amilia, victor makes him an army after he turns his wars into vampires, but they stay loyal to him, that's why victor has more power than marcus, marcus from another side lies that if he dies all vampires die, after centuries of wars the vampires imprison william and begin exterminating the remains of his wolves, in the early 13th century a pregnant woman is bitten by a werewolf and then captured by victor, she gives birth to lucian, a new species werewolves with consciousness and the ability to change. vampires can have children but it is difficult, it is mostly possible if they are from the first two generations of vampires (first generation bitten by Marcus, second bitten by Victor and Amelia) Viktor and his wife have a child, Sonya - a born vampire (it is possible that because of this she becomes pregnant much more easily) lucian and sonia are related, and as two births easily create a womb, a child (a true hybrid 50% by 50%) perhaps the strongest creature since 100% immortal alexander, victor does not want such a relationship and kills his daughter, start of a second war between lucian and william's werewolves against vampires, kraven allies with lucian and fakes his death, present day so to speak, seline finds out lucian is alive and wakes victor, the doctor and lucian thinks that only with pure corvinus blood can a hybrid be created (later we find out that they are wrong), victor learns the truth from the captured doctor and kills him, thanks to seline, michael becomes a hybrid (more werewolf 75% and vampire 25%) , victor can fight him on an equal footing because he is a first generation vampire and has over 1000 years of fighting experience, marcus wakes up because of the werewolf doctor's blood, making him a special hybrid because he is the first vampire. celine to defeat marcus drinks the blood of 100% immortal alexander, this makes her a special vampire/immortal hybrid which gives her more strength and regeneration plus more things like walking on ray light and another thing that is shown in the fourth movie so far races - human, immortal, vampire different generations, william's werewolves, lucian's werewolves, true hybrid, hybrid more werewolf, special hybrid vampire + immortal, special hybrid first vampire, born vampires why this world is slightly different from the ordinary ones, one of the main reasons why this world exists is there are mainly two reasons romeo and juliet and mulecolor biology, because of the first we have a love story between a vampire and a werewolf, and because of the second the races appear because of a mutation in the gene and they have a difference of the typical prestas, can give birth, werewolves are also immortal, can improve, there are many variants of hybrids, please watch all the movies 1,2,3 and 5 are the top, 4 introduces some character but leaves something to be desired, would i wish there were more movies like one about alexander and how he becomes immortal ending up changing his children into new races, a movie about marcus and how he makes a deal with victor and gives him powers, one about hunting william, one for Amelia, one for the end of the war with Lucian and Kraven's betrayal, one for the events before the 4th movie, and at least one for the events after the 5th movie, not to mention three
I've never seen this movie. I just stopped by for the Cute. I was not disappointed. I'm also starting to see now where the inspiration for the Dawnguard DLC for Skyrim came from. Marcus is literally the vampire lord.

The first UW was in England, Kate got alot of whistles and comments about her attractive appearance. This one was in the US, and for roughly 3 decades men have been cowed from speaking in such a manner. Kate got nervous thinking she had lost it. 😂
Alexander was the first immortal human because of the mutation in his blood when he was exposed to the plague, Marcus was the first vampire after he was bitten by a bat, William was bitten by a wolf and became the first werewolf, his descendants later became Lycans after they either learned or evolved to revert to human form and retain some human intelligence and restraint in werewolf form and the third son, Michael`s ancestor, remained mortal but still carried the potential for the immortal virus from his father and brothers which was why Michael was able to become a hybrid.
They are ALL immortals. Lycans included. Lucian being the first example you were shown since he was centuries old in the first movie. With Alexander being the first, purest and strongest.
Biss, an immortal (Alexander Corvinus) can live forever unless decapitated and drained of blood or in this case blowing one's self into approximately 10 million pieces. To add to what others have written which I agree with. I believe that 1 of the reasons Selene is much stronger is because Alexander Corvinus besides being a human immortal has (although not mentioned, a higher potency then other humans, u could say, a higher "mana" pool through which he can be more resistant, stronger , I believe it is implicitly meant when he is asked why he didn't stop his son. He himself could have done it I believe). This mixing it with Selene gives her the edge over Marcus, as Marcus is due to being the son, a slightly lower potency. Similarly it works with vampires. Meaning the closer you were sired to the "first" vampire, the higher the potency of the blood and normally the "stronger" vampires are. That is why Victor in the first movie so easily dispatches of a werewolf as he is direct son of the first vampire Marcus + generally vampires augment their potency over the centuries. Although in some versions vampires do need to "sleep" to maintain gained potency. But then again some lore about vampires is different from source to source as well.
So Alexander was a regular human king/lord who somehow became immortal from his bodies reaction to a plague that wiped out his people, Markus and William inherited this mutation and also were immortal. Now I can't remember where I heard this but I believe it was said that the Bat and Wolf that bit the brothers had rabies and the Corvinus immortal gene mutated them into the first vampire and werewolf.
Alexander was a king who was infected by the plague. His body adapted to the virus and he became the first immortal. Then he had three sons, one bitten by a wolf (William), one bitten by a bat (Marcus), and the last was a normal human (probably if he was bitten by an animal he would become a monster too). So William and Marcus were the strongest creatures (after the father). Viktor was a commander with a loyal army. Once he became a vampire, Viktor added his vampire abilities to his warrior skills. Even though Marcus was more powerful, Viktor had a loyal army on his side and Marcus could not face all those enemies. That's why Viktor was in command. Alexander was the most powerful and Selene, drinking his blood, got some of his abilities, but not enough to kill Marcus (or she still had to get used to her mutation). She has to say "thank you" to the helicopter. However I think Selene still has to get used to being a hybrid, she relies on weapons, but she has the skills to kill monsters with her bare hands. Same goes for Michael. He was more powerful than Viktor, but he was a new hybrid and had to feed, that's why he was about to be killed at the end of the first movie
When Viktor killed the lycan scientist, his blood drained down through the floor and into Marcus' sarcophagus, which he drank. This not only awakened him and transformed him into a hybrid, but it also gave him the lycan's memories of recent events involving Lucien, Kraven and Viktor. Drinking Kraven's blood revealed the full extent of Viktor's treachery. Also, Alexander Corvinus and his organization have been the only thing keeping human society from discovering that vampires and werewolves actually exist.
it was board game - World of Darkness, wich this film take some of it's mechanics. So vampires have dark ritual - Diablerie when younger vampire drink all blood from older ones and take part of his soul and powers and become more stronger. So film show child version of this )

Alexander was a true immortal with strength and healing. Markus and William used to be the same. But they were bitten by bat/wolf and their virus mutated. It’s why werewolves are also immortal the same as vampires in this universe. They both come from the same immortal source.
Okay, so Alexander Corvinus had 3 sons. One was born before the plague that took their village down. (The human child who is the direct ancestor to Michael) Alexander was infected by that plague, but his dna cells mutated and he couldn't die from it. He had longevity of life. After his mutation he had twin sons. They got the gene also. However, one son was bitten by a bat, which mutated him into some supernatural blood sucker. He can still walk in the sunlight because part of his dna is his fathers immortality gene. Now because he had the immortal blood and was directly bitten by a bat already, once the Lycan's blood mixed with him, he became a hybrid of a new kind. He could turn into a bat monster with wings. Like something that looks primitive. The same situation with William, only he can't transform into human shape. There is no explanation why. Any people he turned was not capable of turning for some generations later. As if a more diluted generation of Lycans had to be born, or maybe it was because Lucian had special dna of his own, and made him able to retutn to human form. Selene biting Alexander means she is a day walker with the ancient blood of an immortal, making her vampiric strength increase. Alexander looks the age he was as a human, so he was never that strong, himself...just couldn't get sick or die out. That doesn't include beheading or blowing up his body, of course. When he loses so much blood or injured, he must need a transfusion of blood to speed up his healing process. Maybe that's why his security soldier was yelling to get the kit, after Alexander attacked him for the key.

Day 406 of recommending Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), starring basically everyone, but Gary Oldman plays the Count himself. It's not just my favorite vampire movie, but one of my favorite movies of all time. :) Reactions to it have been a little bit mixed though, and it was filmed using some creative and unusual (sometimes just older) methods that might not fly with a younger audience, but I love it.
That 💩 that someone told you about their daughter in the timeline in future films. Your right about the casting of Kate as Selene (which means moon) as she’s believable as the character, movies can be hit or miss casting females in action films, but underworld got it spot on. You should check out Jolt with Kate as the main character, she good in that too. Her dad was a good actor as well and was in one of the U.K’s best loved comedy sitcoms called Porridge

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen these movies, but I remember that being bitten is what’s important for being a hybrid, not drinking of the blood, and isn’t that only if you aren’t vampire or lycan, since Michael was bitten by Selene before he completely changed into a lycan. I may be misremembering though.
@@MetastaticMaladies It seems to be a bit of both. If you recall, Viktor was brought back out of "hibernation" with an infusion of Selena's blood. Markus was also brought out of "hibernation" but with lycan, not vampire, blood from Singe the doctor. It would appear that biting will turn you into a vampire or wolf depending on who bit you. The blood seems to be a vehicle for past memories, antibodies, infections, and just the thing to get you back on your feet after a few centuries sleeping. 😁
Marcus became a hybrid because he drank Lycan blood which activated the Corvinus blood in him and allowed him to evolve.

remember Marcus is a decendant of Corvinus so the same blood that allowed Michael to be a hybrid is the same blood that allowed Marcus to be a hybrid. Thats why Michael looks more like a wolf because he was a werewolf first and Marcus looks more like a bat because he was a vampire first.

*NOT A SPOILER* but something you should and probably already know, the next one, *Rise Of The Lycans,* is a prequel. Lucian was a popular character and he died in the first one so they brought him back to tell his story, *Selene is NOT part of it,* just something to consider in case you want to skip it or watch it after the others, it’s still entertaining though, but after that we pick up on Selene’s story again with the following movies.

Being born a vampire must be tragic, you would probably live underground in a big commune or inside a mountain or some such.
The story ran like this: Corvinus was transformed by the plague into an immortal. He had 3 sons. One bitten by bat, one bitten by wolf, the third one went on in the path of mortality. Michael is the descendant of the third son.

as someone quite familiar with the world of film, I'll try to explain a lot of things without giving away the other three films,
the story- Hungarian warlord Alexander Corvinus is the only survivor of a deadly plague that destroys everyone in his village. In him, the infection mutates and turns him into the first Immortal (a separate race of which he is the only 100% immortal, according to many theories, probably true, he is the strongest creature, but he, unlike his sons, does not want to use his powers, lives in secret and tries to hide his sons' races from ordinary people)
at some point he finds a human wife and has three children who are half immortal and half human, one wants and remains human, the other two become a new race, one becomes a werewolf the other a vampire, unlike in the future then the werewolves are wild and threaten to destroy everything, that's why marcus gives his powers to victor and then to amilia, victor makes him an army after he turns his wars into vampires, but they stay loyal to him, that's why victor has more power than marcus, marcus from another side lies that if he dies all vampires die, after centuries of wars the vampires imprison william and begin exterminating the remains of his wolves, in the early 13th century a pregnant woman is bitten by a werewolf and then captured by victor, she gives birth to lucian, a new species werewolves with consciousness and the ability to change.
vampires can have children but it is difficult, it is mostly possible if they are from the first two generations of vampires (first generation bitten by Marcus, second bitten by Victor and Amelia)
Viktor and his wife have a child, Sonya - a born vampire (it is possible that because of this she becomes pregnant much more easily)
lucian and sonia are related, and as two births easily create a womb, a child (a true hybrid 50% by 50%) perhaps the strongest creature since 100% immortal alexander,
victor does not want such a relationship and kills his daughter, start of a second war between lucian and william's werewolves against vampires, kraven allies with lucian and fakes his death, present day so to speak, seline finds out lucian is alive and wakes victor, the doctor and lucian thinks that only with pure corvinus blood can a hybrid be created (later we find out that they are wrong), victor learns the truth from the captured doctor and kills him, thanks to seline, michael becomes a hybrid (more werewolf 75% and vampire 25%) , victor can fight him on an equal footing because he is a first generation vampire and has over 1000 years of fighting experience, marcus wakes up because of the werewolf doctor's blood, making him a special hybrid because he is the first vampire.
celine to defeat marcus drinks the blood of 100% immortal alexander, this makes her a special vampire/immortal hybrid which gives her more strength and regeneration plus more things like walking on ray light and another thing that is shown in the fourth movie
so far races - human, immortal, vampire different generations, william's werewolves, lucian's werewolves, true hybrid, hybrid more werewolf, special hybrid vampire + immortal, special hybrid first vampire, born vampires
why this world is slightly different from the ordinary ones, one of the main reasons why this world exists is there are mainly two reasons romeo and juliet and mulecolor biology, because of the first we have a love story between a vampire and a werewolf, and because of the second the races appear because of a mutation in the gene and they have a difference of the typical prestas, can give birth, werewolves are also immortal, can improve, there are many variants of hybrids, please watch all the movies 1,2,3 and 5 are the top, 4 introduces some character but leaves something to be desired, would i wish there were more movies like one about alexander and how he becomes immortal ending up changing his children into new races, a movie about marcus and how he makes a deal with victor and gives him powers, one about hunting william, one for Amelia, one for the end of the war with Lucian and Kraven's betrayal, one for the events before the 4th movie, and at least one for the events after the 5th movie, not to mention three

The first UW was in England, Kate got alot of whistles and comments about her attractive appearance. This one was in the US, and for roughly 3 decades men have been cowed from speaking in such a manner. Kate got nervous thinking she had lost it. 😂

Alexander was the first immortal human because of the mutation in his blood when he was exposed to the plague, Marcus was the first vampire after he was bitten by a bat, William was bitten by a wolf and became the first werewolf, his descendants later became Lycans after they either learned or evolved to revert to human form and retain some human intelligence and restraint in werewolf form and the third son, Michael`s ancestor, remained mortal but still carried the potential for the immortal virus from his father and brothers which was why Michael was able to become a hybrid.

They are ALL immortals. Lycans included. Lucian being the first example you were shown since he was centuries old in the first movie.
With Alexander being the first, purest and strongest.
Biss, an immortal (Alexander Corvinus) can live forever unless decapitated and drained of blood or in this case blowing one's self into approximately 10 million pieces. By drinking Alexanders blood, Seline absorbed his immortal bloodline, strength, and memories and became basically an immortal vampire. Hope that helped. Love ya Mel! ❤️

@@taoist32 To a certain extent. There are numerous ways to "kill" a vampire and they must feed. An immortal like Alexander is immune to sunlight and does not need to feed having never been bitten by a bat.

To add to what others have written which I agree with. I believe that 1 of the reasons Selene is much stronger is because Alexander Corvinus besides being a human immortal has (although not mentioned, a higher potency then other humans, u could say, a higher "mana" pool through which he can be more resistant, stronger , I believe it is implicitly meant when he is asked why he didn't stop his son. He himself could have done it I believe). This mixing it with Selene gives her the edge over Marcus, as Marcus is due to being the son, a slightly lower potency. Similarly it works with vampires. Meaning the closer you were sired to the "first" vampire, the higher the potency of the blood and normally the "stronger" vampires are. That is why Victor in the first movie so easily dispatches of a werewolf as he is direct son of the first vampire Marcus + generally vampires augment their potency over the centuries. Although in some versions vampires do need to "sleep" to maintain gained potency. But then again some lore about vampires is different from source to source as well.

So Alexander was a regular human king/lord who somehow became immortal from his bodies reaction to a plague that wiped out his people, Markus and William inherited this mutation and also were immortal.
Now I can't remember where I heard this but I believe it was said that the Bat and Wolf that bit the brothers had rabies and the Corvinus immortal gene mutated them into the first vampire and werewolf.

Alexander was a king who was infected by the plague. His body adapted to the virus and he became the first immortal. Then he had three sons, one bitten by a wolf (William), one bitten by a bat (Marcus), and the last was a normal human (probably if he was bitten by an animal he would become a monster too). So William and Marcus were the strongest creatures (after the father). Viktor was a commander with a loyal army. Once he became a vampire, Viktor added his vampire abilities to his warrior skills. Even though Marcus was more powerful, Viktor had a loyal army on his side and Marcus could not face all those enemies. That's why Viktor was in command. Alexander was the most powerful and Selene, drinking his blood, got some of his abilities, but not enough to kill Marcus (or she still had to get used to her mutation). She has to say "thank you" to the helicopter. However I think Selene still has to get used to being a hybrid, she relies on weapons, but she has the skills to kill monsters with her bare hands. Same goes for Michael. He was more powerful than Viktor, but he was a new hybrid and had to feed, that's why he was about to be killed at the end of the first movie
When Viktor killed the lycan scientist, his blood drained down through the floor and into Marcus' sarcophagus, which he drank. This not only awakened him and transformed him into a hybrid, but it also gave him the lycan's memories of recent events involving Lucien, Kraven and Viktor. Drinking Kraven's blood revealed the full extent of Viktor's treachery.
Also, Alexander Corvinus and his organization have been the only thing keeping human society from discovering that vampires and werewolves actually exist.

it was board game - World of Darkness, wich this film take some of it's mechanics. So vampires have dark ritual - Diablerie when younger vampire drink all blood from older ones and take part of his soul and powers and become more stronger. So film show child version of this )

If Marcus had turned William into a hybrid, it would've been a Lycan dominant hybrid, which probably would have caused the beast to fully take hold and make it so even Marcus wouldn't be able to control William.

Markus and William used to be the same. But they were bitten by bat/wolf and their virus mutated.
It’s why werewolves are also immortal the same as vampires in this universe. They both come from the same immortal source.
Okay, so Alexander Corvinus had 3 sons. One was born before the plague that took their village down. (The human child who is the direct ancestor to Michael)
Alexander was infected by that plague, but his dna cells mutated and he couldn't die from it.
He had longevity of life. After his mutation he had twin sons. They got the gene also. However, one son was bitten by a bat, which mutated him into some supernatural blood sucker. He can still walk in the sunlight because part of his dna is his fathers immortality gene.
Now because he had the immortal blood and was directly bitten by a bat already, once the Lycan's blood mixed with him, he became a hybrid of a new kind. He could turn into a bat monster with wings. Like something that looks primitive.
The same situation with William, only he can't transform into human shape. There is no explanation why.
Any people he turned was not capable of turning for some generations later. As if a more diluted generation of Lycans had to be born, or maybe it was because Lucian had special dna of his own, and made him able to retutn to human form.
Selene biting Alexander means she is a day walker with the ancient blood of an immortal, making her vampiric strength increase.
Alexander looks the age he was as a human, so he was never that strong, himself...just couldn't get sick or die out. That doesn't include beheading or blowing up his body, of course.
When he loses so much blood or injured, he must need a transfusion of blood to speed up his healing process. Maybe that's why his security soldier was yelling to get the kit, after Alexander attacked him for the key.

Day 406 of recommending Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), starring basically everyone, but Gary Oldman plays the Count himself. It's not just my favorite vampire movie, but one of my favorite movies of all time. :) Reactions to it have been a little bit mixed though, and it was filmed using some creative and unusual (sometimes just older) methods that might not fly with a younger audience, but I love it.

That 💩 that someone told you about their daughter in the timeline in future films. Your right about the casting of Kate as Selene (which means moon) as she’s believable as the character, movies can be hit or miss casting females in action films, but underworld got it spot on. You should check out Jolt with Kate as the main character, she good in that too. Her dad was a good actor as well and was in one of the U.K’s best loved comedy sitcoms called Porridge
