I have heard this idea in more recent times too. But I'm not sure if it is the official reason. The idea of cutting oneself to draw a predator toward you has been around for a while too. Particularly with sharks. 'Predator' was once described as "Jaws, in the jungle". When an animal is closing on its prey, we often say "It can smell blood". Of course we know this creature has thermal vision etc, but Billy may have cut himself symbolically to say "Come to me..". He wanted to draw the creature to himself, so the others could get away.
Sonny Landham (Billy) ran for the US Senate from Kentucky. He ran as a Libertarian. A friend of mine joked that Carl Weathers should have ran for Governor somewhere. A gubernatorial trifecta...

The wild shooting into the forest is called a 'mad minute'. My deceased father in law told me that, when he was in Vietnam, this was a standard practice when you were ambushed in the jungle. You basically send a wall of bullets back in the direction of the attack and eventually you will hit the enemy, who is unseen.

the "deforestation" scene is an actual battle tactic. At this point they think that they are still up against the rebels and don't know anything about the predator. Calling "contact" declares that you've been engaged by the enemy in an ambush. When ambushed, you have lost the battlefield initiative (very bad) & in order to regain control of the battlefield you do the unexpected and immediately counterattack and overwhelm the enemy with superior firepower.

The scene where Carl Weathers dumps a mag into the helicopter pilot and co pilot then Dutch launches a grenade and blows it up is so over the top lmaoooo peak 80s
This movie is one of the most testosterone filled movies to come out of the 80’s. Also, even US military thermal imaging can be beat by mud. There was a funny podcast with a veteran and it came up.
Yes, this was and still is a movie that was targeted towards men. Great movie! Saw it in the theater! The predator voice is also the voice for Optimus Prime.
Love your reaction Biss, watching Arnold kick butt is always a good time! If we ever get invaded by aliens I will show them this movie just to make sure they behave 😉
Of course, this is the ultimate movie for men. But, brave of you Biss' for sticking to your principles. As an ex-mil', I was blown away by this movie & must have seen it dozens of times since. To be fair, I wouldn't want to watch & rate 'Sleepless in Seattle'. ; )
Nice reaction, Bisscute! Yeah, Predator was an '80's classic. This might be the first film you've watched in 2024 with Carl Weathers in it, so I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet: R.I.P, Carl Weathers, a.k.a. Dillon and Apollo Creed.
It's crazy how fast the Predator can lock onto targets with his plasma caster like when Arnold chucks the rock to distract him during the final battle... On another note RIP Carl
Really enjoyed your review! I think what works so well with the movie, even with some of the ridiculousness, is that they do a really good job of setting the tension in the movie. Between the jungle, camera angles, soundtrack, the sounds the Predator makes, etc.
After watching all your reactions for so long now, I just have to say, I love watching you with the Jump Scares. You look so freakin' cute, cause you're like half scared, and half angry at the same time, and it's hilarious!! If I watched a scary movie with you in real life, I think I would actually die laughing!! Thanks always for the fun reactions. Keep smiling 🙂👍🇨🇦
This movie was a quote and meme factory. You'll start recognizing the "bicep handshake." Also the lines, "If it bleeds, we can kill it," and, "Get to the choppah! "
To make the movie the studio had to Hire a Bodyguard for Billy(the intuitive one). And the Bodyguard was not to protect him. But to protect people from Billy. He was a notorious Wild man back then......so funny.
The movies you react to are often very nice, reminding me of many memories, but here what is important and relaxing are your facial expressions. Thank you for sharing!
I recollect the Mythbusters tested this very thing in a crime caper episode. They set up thermal motion sensors in a hallway that acts like the infravision of the alien here. Using large costumes did not work, neither did coating a person in mud like Arnold did here. The person set off the alarm anyway.
I'll have to take your word for it to replace the "suspension of disbelief" I'd relied on before. I love this movie, but it always seemed odd to me that we were to believe that a thin layer of mud made a better thermal mask than the log, a few feet away which did not conceal a small rodent underneath.
I was 7 when this came out. I heard about it for years and got to see it when I was 13. I love that the predator comes from a world with culture and a code of honor. Dutch turned out to be the best after all.
I love this film, is a Classic for Scy Fi cinema and i loved your reaction Biss🎉🎉🎉 Thanks for this one Biss. old films are full of nostalgia but at the time were inovating new ideas with practical special effects not computers. Please Miss Bisscute react to more classic films like Predator 2 starring Danny Glover, the original Mad Max Trilogy with Mel Gibson, Rambo (first blood) with Silvester Stallone, Lethal Weapon (with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) those old films i think you will like them.
The production itself. I am aware film students are instructed to watch this and analyze how it was made. You pointed out the distinct environment and ambience. This is very well used for establishing and keeping the tension. Even in scenes where nothing appears to be happening all the clicks and birds and so forth are always inducing anxiety. More as well looking at the sets. Add the usage of score, helped to have an expert on the case of course. The usage of foliage for example and the knowledge that the human brain can discern between real and fake plants as it can real and fake fire all to help the audience be more immersed. And so on with the details and technical effects in this. I don't want to say it's a fantastic production as much one done right and that absolutely was a movie that producers after it thought about when making their own films. Obviously the character synopsis, arcs and blending are on point in addition to all that to round this out. I care about these characters and when things happen to them. Even when some of them are people I would regard in real life as aholes. And I sincerely feel the antagonist is an intimating character as well grounded enough for being something fantastic. I can believe why they would be terrified of it and why people may have even believed it was a supernatural demon. None of it feels forced or unbelievable and again that is a good job when it comes to things like aliens that are so far removed from static reality as we know it. Overall there are reasons this film is so legendary and they are not just because it Arnold or epic action scenes. It's just well done enough to not ignore it.
That's the idea but in reality that doesn't work. If we can detect body heat from a helicopter through a persons clothes or hiding in a wheelie bin I'm sure the Predators would have something much more advanced.
When Arnold throws his knife and pins the guerrilla to the post, it was simply to get rid of it so he wouldn't have to carry it for the rest of the movie.
@@BissFlix I personally do not. This is, by far, the best Predator film. Directed by the guy who did "Die Hard" and "The Hunt for Red October." Both classics. It was originally just a one and done film. The rest were made to purely make money.
During the making the movie, the actor that played Billy, Sonny Landham, almost got into a fight with Arnold. Billy Dee Williams had to step in to cool things off. Apparently, Sonny had a violent temper.😮 He also ran for Governor of Kentucky and was 1/8 Seminole.😊
Looking back at all my favorite 80s movies I'm amazed at the lack of tactical knowledge that everyone now seems to intuitively know. Even children now wont run around holding their toy guns like all my favorite action stars used to.
Biss, Back in those days, people were not mostly making movies because that is the way to make money unlike nowadays. I remember when I watched this movie, the whole family watched it 10-15+ people because, that is what people used to do on weekends. People were not exposed to the thousands of lame "action movies" like the ones they are making nowadays with no storyline but lots of guns, explosions and fast cars. When Predator came out, most people had no idea what this movie was about. For most people, the plot, the performance, the special effects were like nothing ever seen before. Music, of course it is amazing, there is a full orchestra behind that. Most movies nowadays don't write and produce music, they just take what's out there. Keep watching these classics Biss, UHHH... You are like the perfect GF/Wife. Miss you, and sorry I can't make any of the live Twitch shows, my job sucks.
That was Jesse "The Body" Ventura who said I aint got time to bleed. He was a former WWE wrestler who had matches with Hulk Hogan and other greats. He was also the Governor of Minnesota.
Not Blackhawk helicopters. These are "Huey" helicopters. Blackhawks replaced the aging Huey design maybe 8 years after Predator came out. To it's credit, the Huey is still in current civilian use for search and rescue, forrest fires, and business/ personal flying.
@@BissFlix glad I can help. good guideline: movies before Mid-90s - Huey movies after Mid-90s - Blackhawk (Blackhawk entered service earlier, but HUEYs were cheaper to use/find for movies)
Most of the actors in this movie all served in the military as well, including Arnold. Jesse Ventura (Blaine) was also one of the original Navy Frogmen that served in Vietnam, and had a successful pro wrestling career, and was a member of the Mongols MC, and was governor of Minnesota!
The "prequel" "Prey" was actually geared towards women in many ways.I think it's something you might like."Predator 2" is also good. It doesn't matter what order because "Prey" takes place before the first one.
This movie boasts three politicians in the cast. Arnold Schwarzeneggar (Dutch) went on to become the governor of California. Jesse Ventura (Blain Cooper) went on to become the governor of Minnesota. Sonny Landham (Billy Sole) went on to run for the Republican ticket for governor of Kentucky and lost the primary race. He then ran for a Kentucky state senate seat and lost. He then became a Libertarian candidate for the senate seat held by Republican Mitch McConnell and lost. The Libertarian party then asked him to withdraw from their party due to him making several racist comments regarding people of Arab descent in an interview.
Iv been waiting on this one. I'm so excited for you to start this Predator journey. I also think you would like the (AVP / Alien vs Predator) they took the Alien franchise and the Predator franchise together and made them enemies. I really believe you would enjoy it much more.
The guys from Corridor Crew tested the camouflage idea. The mud actually works against infra-red. It masks your body heat very well. What the predator sees is actually accurate.
The helicopter pilot at the end was, Kevin Peter Hall. I say, WAS, because he died a couple of years after the film. He was also portraying the Preditor in the film. As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
This movie is one of the main perpetrators of people believing that you can actually walk around and shoot a minigun like that do you actually know what kind of power source you would have to lug around to make that gun functional in the jungle.... there's a reason they are mounted to helicopters and vehicles because they require a very high voltage power source as it's not physics or mechanical action that makes the barrels spin, but an electric motor. 😂
The ultimate action movie an easy 5/5. Those helicopters at the beginning are Bell UH-1 Iroquois or commonly known as "Huey" not Blackhawks. They were used a lot in the Vietnam War and in the 70s and 80s. The Predator is from a race of hunters, trophy hunters, and he happens to like skulls. At the end he took his weapons and technology off because he found an, intelligent, crafty creature (Arnold) worthy to fight in honorable hand to hand combat. But in the end when he lost, he wasn't going to be someone's trophy or allow his technology to fall in the hands of a backwards species, so he destroyed himself
3:35 That is chewing tobacco. A habit that has almost completely disappeared by now. That is also the reason Blaine spat such large amount of saliva on Dillon's boot
So when it comes to the mud and heat sensor this was actually tested by corridor crew a few years ago and it really works. They had a super expensive infrared camera and even right up close it could not detect the guys body heat while covered in mud.

A very corny film, but that's what we loved in the eighties!
Oh?
this thumbnail says so much lol 😂🤣
Funfact: The Predator was played by Jean Claud Van Damme, but the production was a mess, he was a pain in the ass, and they took him out.
...and the predator costume was completely different and super heavy (that's why he was a pain in the ...)
@@potens1And he was too short. At the time Arnold was still 6’2”. Van Damme was around 5’9”-5’10”. Not exactly an intimidating predator.
Yeah, it was heavy... and HOT! And in the jungles of Mexico.
please biss continue with the predator movies 🥺🙏
Why? The sequels are just more of the same. Nothing new.
@@Stogie2112 The second one is a little different you get to see more what the predator looks like and the movie aliens vs predator is a good movie because of the lore and the movie predators is also a good movie like all great franchises once you watch one you must watch them all because they are all good movies yes they could be better but they are good movies I hope she continues to watch them all lastly mate if you have seen alien vs predator requiem then you would know it adds more to the lore it’s not just the same each of the movies have something new mate smh 🤦
@@LovelyBeachCoast-us1ec .... To each their own. For me, it was the same story: humans fighting Predators, Aliens fighting Predators, again and again....*YAWN".
The "lore" is a total bore.
@@Stogie2112 the lore is amazing read the comics and you say it’s the same story so is most franchises like the matrix star wars star trek the marvel universe movies Friday the 13th hellraiser Halloween just to name a few franchises that do the same thing the same story but they are all amazing franchises including the predator franchise everyone needs to see the whole franchise of something from start to finish smh 🤦 🥰😈
Fun fact: the original predator was Jean Claude Van Damme, and there are clips of him wearing a different monster costume. But they needed a taller man and changed the design.
The original creature design was insanely stupid, so they brought in Stan Winston and his crew... with an assist by James Cameron.
The actor who played "I aint got time to bleed" guy went on to become governor of Minnesota. 😆
"Prey" is a prequel to predator .
But not as good as the original.
@@dan_hitchman007 But better than the sequel.
@@dan_hitchman007But I think Biss will like it even more.
And it's trash
if she gave the best predator movie a 3.5, just imagine the others...
WOW! She has such good instincts for movies. First of her reactions I've watched so I don't know if she's into pop culture but she was finishing quotes and guessing plot points left and right. Bravo!
Those helicopters are not Blackhawks, but in fact, Hueys. Older helicopters famously used in Vietnam
Predator captures the perfect tone all 80s action movie was trying to achieve, being a badass.
It does, I enjoyed it. Thanks for watching
15:20 - "professional deforrestation" - Awesome description. :D
Me and several US Navy shipmates of mine watched this in the movie theater at Charleston, Sc. 1987. It's an experience we'll never forget.
I bet, sounds like it. Thanks for watching
this thumbnail is chef’s kiss 😘 🥰
When it was released in 1987, Predator had an original premise. I liked the slow reveal of what the Predator was; it built suspense.
I see
The scene where Carl Weathers dumps a mag into the helicopter pilot and co pilot then Dutch launches a grenade and blows it up is so over the top lmaoooo peak 80s
This movie is one of the most testosterone filled movies to come out of the 80’s. Also, even US military thermal imaging can be beat by mud. There was a funny podcast with a veteran and it came up.
Thank for watching
Bro myth busters proved that wrong like two decades ago 😂😂
@@Dylan.More-Veiny Corridor Digital proved it true recently
yay I was waiting for this 🥹🙏🥰
Yes, this was and still is a movie that was targeted towards men. Great movie! Saw it in the theater! The predator voice is also the voice for Optimus Prime.
For decades I didn't think the mud things wouldn't work, but it does. A group of guys tested it out and put the video on RUclips
To be fair, I wouldn't want to watch & rate 'Sleepless in Seattle'. ; )
Haha, I did enjoy it
She gave it 3.5 stars :O. Go get the torches and pitchforks :). I hope you reach 100k Bisscute. Best wishes.
Thank you
Nice reaction, Bisscute! Yeah, Predator was an '80's classic.
This might be the first film you've watched in 2024 with Carl Weathers in it, so I'm surprised no one's mentioned this yet:
R.I.P, Carl Weathers, a.k.a.
"someone brought the big guns" she said. Well, it wasn't me. Oh well.. I brought a minigun...
"Do the deforestation now" 😂 that's like I said when I first watched it. Blast it before it escapes
The funniest part about this movie is the fact that the predator slipped and fell over the waterfall too while chasing after Dutch
Great reaction, I hope this gets thousands of views and you react to the other movies in the series.
Thanks you so much
"For the Boys" as Biss drools over the beefy boys. Violence was encouraged for sure! Fun reaction Biss, you rock!
“No more nap, gotta move” are words I live by. 😂
Haha
This movie was a quote and meme factory. You'll start recognizing the "bicep handshake." Also the lines, "If it bleeds, we can kill it," and, "Get to the choppah! "
Can’t wait
BISSSCUTEEEEE! GET TO THE COPPPPEAHHHHH!
will you review the Prey soon. i am waiting
😂 cHopppper
GOINGGGG, thanks for watching
It's too bad Mac didn't get his payback. Bill Duke is still my favorite in this.
My pleasure, thanks for watching
I recollect the Mythbusters tested this very thing in a crime caper episode. They set up thermal motion sensors in a hallway that acts like the infravision of the alien here. Using large costumes did not work, neither did coating a person in mud like Arnold did here. The person set off the alarm anyway.
Another RUclips channel did the mud test themselves and found it plausible.
Corridor Crew did a video testing the mud-masking-infrared trope and found that it is quite effective.
Thanks for watching
I love this film, is a Classic for Scy Fi cinema and i loved your reaction Biss🎉🎉🎉 Thanks for this one Biss. old films are full of nostalgia but at the time were inovating new ideas with practical special effects not computers. Please Miss Bisscute react to more classic films like Predator 2 starring Danny Glover, the original Mad Max Trilogy with Mel Gibson, Rambo (first blood) with Silvester Stallone, Lethal Weapon (with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover) those old films i think you will like them.
The predator follow the honnor code so much, not only he give Dutch an equal term to fist fight, he also warn Dutch about the suicide bomb.
Right, glad you enjoyed this
The production itself.
Thanks for the info
It wouldn't detect him cause the layers of mud and its cold
ahh ok, thank you
@@BissFlix awesome reaction 💯👍
That's the idea but in reality that doesn't work. If we can detect body heat from a helicopter through a persons clothes or hiding in a wheelie bin I'm sure the Predators would have something much more advanced.
@@4Kandlez It does work Corridor Crew has a video on it
When Arnold throws his knife and pins the guerrilla to the post, it was simply to get rid of it so he wouldn't have to carry it for the rest of the movie.
haha that is funny
This is still the best preat
Do you recommend the rest of the series?
I dont know for sure I think Arnold was in this first movie only so I'm not sure bissthe other commentators can help you im sorry❤you
@@BissFlix I personally do not.
Older movies made before w0keness and DEI invaded everything, are mostly solid gold.
Thank you, glad you are liking the reaction. No worries about not making it to twitch
Jean Claude Van Damme was originally cast to play the Predator.
Oh?
That was Jesse "The Body" Ventura who said I aint got time to bleed. He was a former WWE wrestler who had matches with Hulk Hogan and other greats. He was also the Governor of Minnesota.
Not Blackhawk helicopters. These are "Huey" helicopters. Blackhawks replaced the aging Huey design maybe 8 years after Predator came out. To it's credit, the Huey is still in current civilian use for search and rescue, forrest fires, and business/ personal flying.
Oh I see, thanks
@@BissFlix glad I can help. good guideline:
movies before Mid-90s - Huey
movies after Mid-90s - Blackhawk
(Blackhawk entered service earlier, but HUEYs were cheaper to use/find for movies)
Most of the actors in this movie all served in the military as well, including Arnold. Jesse Ventura (Blaine) was also one of the original Navy Frogmen that served in Vietnam, and had a successful pro wrestling career, and was a member of the Mongols MC, and was governor of Minnesota!
You should check out Conan the Barbarian, it's an Arnold classic
Might do that someday
The role that got him recognized, the OG sword and sorcery movie that spawned a genre. Worth a watch
@BissFlix When you said, "BET PRICK!" I damn near fell out of my chair laughing 🤣🤣 You are so damn adorable hun
haha glad you had fun
The "prequel" "Prey" was actually geared towards women in many ways.I think it's something you might like."Predator 2" is also good. It doesn't matter what order because "Prey" takes place before the first one.
Hopefully she watches Prey. I don’t care about any of the others.
@@yannym4605 Truly that's how I feel too, lol.
Prey was hot garbage
@@Beardo2517 A lot of people like it, to each their own.✌
This movie boasts three politicians in the cast.
I am enjoying the fact that you literally are enjoying this movie!
haha thanks for watching
Thanks for the info
3:35 That is chewing tobacco. A habit that has almost completely disappeared by now. That is also the reason Blaine spat such large amount of saliva on Dillon's boot
Arnold was once known as the "Austrian oak"because he was so big then, when he was a bodybuilder.
"Lettttttt's Stay Positive" lol
@@BissFlix you are so funny, love seeing your videos
So when it comes to the mud and heat sensor this was actually tested by corridor crew a few years ago and it really works. They had a super expensive infrared camera and even right up close it could not detect the guys body heat while covered in mud.
Oh wow
When Arnold was in the Austrian army, rumor was he drove and army tank into a lake.
Biss! “No wonder you had to leave home with such a face.” Actually, based on the franchise, this Predator is the ‘cutest’ one in the family! LOL. Loved you reactions, Biss. Specially your appreciation of the ‘Austrian landscape’. If you continue with the franchise, female bad-asses join the battle with the PredatorS. My sisters and nieces are fans of the franchise.
The predator is played by Kevin Peter Hall. He is also one of the Helicopter pilots at the end. Jean Claude van Dammed was originally cast as the Predator, but it didn't work out.
