  • We've come a long way, but lets not forget where we came from. 7 years ago the GT 1030 was a competent entry level GPU, and at the same time, the Pentium G4560 was a greatly priced CPU.
    While you can't expect too much out of these little fellas, you can still get away with some popular games today. And with a couple small upgrades in the future, maybe this system can go a lot further.

      @@its.panda_07 I mean with that, you can only browse websites basically. You already will have problems watching youtube at high res/framerate because your Hardware doesn't support the new codecs youtube is streaming out natively your CPU has to render that in software and it will lag horribly. I've seen that even on my 3770k as soon as I went 1440p/60fps video my CPU was perma 100% and I got like 5 fps. Now on 12700k I can watch 8k/60 fps and my cpu/gpu don't even go above 20w usage. All depends on the right decoders implemented in hardware and the right mmx extensions supported.

    I had this exact combination back in the day. I remember being impressed by the 1030's performance at the time and to this day I still maintain the opinion that those who talk bad about it don't actually understand the benefits of it (no PCIE connector & single slot) that make it PERFECT for upgrading old desktop PCs with bad PSUs and little space for a GPU.
    I now have a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and an RTX 4070 Super though, so my budget gaming days are now behind me!

      All true, but the GTX 1050 wasn't that much more and was way better. You could even get 1050Ti with no ext power. You're unlikely to find either of those in single-slot though, and SFF versions come at an increased cost and usually are still 1.5-2 slot.

      I miss this era of the PC Space too. Also loved the aesthetics of PC's back then, RGB was there but wasn't over the top, more like highlights on a few components here and there. Games were also not pushing so much as they are now for graphical fidelity and framerate so you could build a modest system and be good with that. Stuff that was coming out was in reach for most consumers compared today where everything is massively overpriced for what they are, especially gpu's.

    I gamed on the modern equivalent for awhile (at least, I think so) - a Pentium G7400 and Arc a380. Yeah, there's worse cards... it was true in 2017 too, at least the 1030 was current, um... yeah. There are always worse CPUs, because, well, Celeron word-processing processors that struggled with much more (ok, ok, the internet was fine... sure...)
    The Pentium G7400 and Arc a380 actually held a 30-60 fps average in Baldur's Gate 3 - cinematics are what saw the 20s. This was at relatively high settings. If you know the game, it was Act III that made me change out the card. Also noteable, I guess, is the fact I used a CRT monitor at 1600x1200 - so it was like the old school 1080p. BUT IT DID IT.
    In 2017, this was probably totally OK with your whole Steam back-log... I mean all those games you bought because, well, maybe someday I will play them... but you didn't. (The struggle is real, it used to be books I hadn't read that I owned... but, y'know, progress and all)
    Also, I discovered you here from a recommended video, and I applaud the algorithm for getting it right.

    I remember upgrading to a GT 1030, 8GB DDR2 and a Core 2 quad Q8300 on an inspiron 545s mobo. And honestly It really blew me away as it really felt like the last thing ill ever game on as it was my first time ever experiencing 60FPS in games and ultra settings at a HD resolution with the games I played on it and made the laptop I upgraded from look like a complete and utter scam I bought from walmart being a $400 HP 15 with an intel pentium n3540 and 4GB of ram. As well as any other prevoius laptop I grew up with streight from the pawn shop because my family couldnt afford a console of a gaming PC.

    • @YogertPC
      @YogertPC  Месяц назад +2

      Oh wow a Vega 56, well when you're done with it, i'll buy it. I hear you can flash it into Vega 64 without issue as long as it has Samsung memory. Either way, an i7-8700K or 9700K would be a jump in both clocks and multithreading for about $100. My brother recently upgraded to 8700K, its still a solid chip without needing to get new motherboard and RAM.
      GPU is a little trickier since youre on LGA1151, anything newer than Vega or Geforce 20 is on PCIe gen 4, and you could run into bandwidth issues pairing with a coffee lake chip. A used 2080 Ti or Super could be a good deal, not to mention way better on efficiency than Vega. Personally i'm interested in something like an RX 7800 XT.
      And if an entire new platform upgrade is in your future, i'd go AM5, since new chips should be coming at the end of July, while Intel's current LGA1700 is at the end of its life. A Ryzen 7 7800X3D would be pretty gamer

    you need to look at your individual thread values for the CPU to see if you're being CPU bottlenecked. You could be at 60% total CPU utilization but because games dont have perfect multithreading and some have terrible multithreading. If you look at individual values you will see one or more cores at 100% and others not being utilized properly, a single thread from the game is demanding more than that thread can handle. Sometimes turning off hyperthreading can help for CPU utilization in some games as that comes with more powerful individual threads. Just a few times in your video when you said that the CPU wasn't the bottleneck but your GPU wasn't being utilized... if BOTH arent being utilized you should just be getting more frames and more utilization of the GPU.

  • @chinesepopsongs00
    @chinesepopsongs00 Месяц назад

    For hyper threading in games count 70% cpu as the limit because higher will cause wild fluctuation in frame times making playing any game no fun at all. The 70% is not something i invented if you going to read all documentation from intel about it you will find this magic number as the core efficiency without hyper threading. You will also find the additional efficiency gain of the 2nd thread mentioned between 20% and 30% depending on workload. However it can block the first thread causing lower single thread performance. And single thread performance has a direct connection to frame times in many games. So in short GPU bottleneck is overall lower average fps that can be tuned with graphics settings. CPU bottleneck will cause fps drops so your average might be somewhat ok due to good enough GPU but the 1% lows will be horrible. Also a CPU bottleneck is hard or impossible to tune in game settings. Only if the game has specific settings that impact CPU work directly will it make a difference like crowd density because calculating pathing for less npc’s saves CPU time for building the scene of the next frame.
