C20let have a 1st gear indent switch, (also from a cavalier 4x4 turbo) limits boost to stop it destroying the gearbox and transfer box (as it would have had from factory). Bridge the plug which plugs into the switch in the gearbox and it will go all out. Those that run the f20 box have no choice but to bridge the plug because the f20 box never came with the switch from factory as it was only ever tended for the c20xe. But had this lad had the knowledge on these he would have known that. Not hating he’s just not from this era. When his gearbox goes wrong he will find out why these are hens teeth. Drums on the back and half moon rev counter this will have an 8v c20ne/seh from factory. Beautiful car though.

    • @richarddavies5711

I’m guessing it’s because the car isn’t making 300hp until overboost in 4th gear and also the extra gear change into 3rd probably hurts the time.

Owner needs to check his boost pipes, I reckon he got a boost leak somewhere?????. Boost doesnt seem to come on strong and a 300bhp FWD car weighing just under a tonne, it should be all over the road, but this car seems to put the power down even in lower gears, the car isnt producing much boost, hence why I think its leaking somewhere.

Great engine, especially the early one with a bit higher power, no cat etc. I always wanted to fit ITBs, on a bog standard lump that upped power to 200bhp NA! Its no wonder that so many kit cars and racers used that lump. I'm a 46 year old family man now but i've even had dreams of driving my GTE thats how much it stayed with me haha! Martijn Jansen already said it, but i just have to point it out once more. In Germany and the rest of Europe, the car was called Opel Kadett. Funny that Vauxhall named it Astra back then, because the Astra is what was its successor in Germany. The Astra line startet with Astra F, the Kadett line ended with this particular model, which was the Kadett E.
Nonetheless, the motor from the Cali Turbo, which was the C20LET, is a beast and has been used in a lot of Opel/Vauxhall swaps, from Corsas over Kadetts to Astras.
This here is quite a nice build. Big ups to the owner i.e. previous owner and builder 👍👍👍

Yeeeessss..absolutely love the old skooooll bwoiii!!! Now you out there type of cars next to a top end merc ect and you can have the merc...ok take the brute savage and feel the true raw engine power and the car making you work..not sitting in a merc or bmw and just out your foot down,,anyone can drive fast in a straight line..these things seperate cruise control car fans to real drivers

Just because it has a hybrid doesn't suddenly mean it's 300bhp. Would say standard map as it still has the boost limited in earlier gears which they done to keep the 4x4 healthy. Still awesome to see and probably a giggle to drive

There is one here in Norway with 500 horses. It is completely useless! The owner has now purchased a Lotus Esprit that the engine will be fitted into.

lovely machine & fair play to the guy for being honest about the work that was done, plenty of folk would have gladly skated round and collected the flowers for the work done even though it was previous owners that did it.

I dare to say that this gte started out with a 2ltr 8 valve engine because of the drum brakes at the rear, the 16 valve redtop gte came with disc brakes at the rear! Very tidy, clean car anyways!

I worry about the future of us petrol heads with the phasing out of petrol and this cheap fuel they're forcing on us.
