In the early 1990s, South African Kadett GSi's were further upgraded based on their success in production car racing and initially 500 special units were built as road cars for homologation purposes. This was a minimum requirement for entry into the Stannic Group N races. They went against BMW's 325iS (A 2.7 litre homologation special from BMW). They featured more aggressive 276-degree camshafts made by Schrick with 2 different settings for timing overlap (110° and 107°), revised intake and exhaust modifications (4-in-1 branch manifold and freeflow exhaust), Irmscher spring kit, modified engine management system by Promotec, a limited slip differential developed by Andre Verwey and special Aluett 7Jx15-inch ET35 alloy wheels, they were nicknamed the "Superboss" and held the world record for the most torque per litre (114 Nm per litre) for a naturally aspirated car until 2009 being beaten by the Ferrari 458 (117 Nm per litre). After the first 500 units were produced, many more were built to satisfy public demand.

Great to see a vid of the good old Opel Kadett, these used to be everywhere when I grew up. Never see them anymore unfortunately. This piece is beautiful, extremely tidy. Keep em coming guys!
Respect to this man,,,,,,,,Now i have to explain to my wife why i am sitting in a wet patch......
I used to work for Vauxhall when these cars were brand new rolling off the production line, Pre delivery inspection road tests was very enjoyable indeed. Can't imagine the chassis could handle that much power, must be fun to drive.
Neighbours son-in-law used to have a nice Astra GTE. Now he has an Insignia estate. Sad times.
😂
He gave up..sad
bet he's gutted.
Talk about a blast from the past you don't see many of these about. I used to see them a lot when I was growing up. My auntie had a gte convertible in blue the 8v version.
Awesome video bro, you're prolific Ricky mate never a disappointment with your content !!
What a sound guy! Can tell that car is his pride & Joy. Super chill letting you drive too!
Ricky what a car , I love the old school cars and this made my day watching this lol , I myself have a very special car and will be contacting you in a few weeks / months to do a video of my old school beauty , watch this space :)
Loving this unique channel and experiencing these fantastic old skool cars. Keep them coming.
Im still hoping that Ford bring back the Escort or Sierra in a Anniversary edition. That would be amazing.
Never gonna happen as much as we'd love it. Would love a new generation Cosworth!
Even if they did it would never be the same unfortunately
@@bendude6748 yeah would be a shitty transverse engine with front wheel biased all wheel drive
The escort is back not sure if releasing in UK but selling in china
@@servantofthewatchful6202 you are correct indeed. Just China!
Love these old things. I had 3 x Gte16v’s back in the day including a mint Champion edition of which some pr1ck stole it, crashed it and burned it out to a crisp. I was devastated so I bought a Nova 300bhp Gte c20let - the guy in the vid is spot on, 3rd gear onwards they’re ballistic. Good vid 👍
Man I remember these cars growing up! Love it!
7:55 awkward lol!
Max Power vibe with this car . Respect Need more fast E34 and E32 BMWs on this channel, bet somebody reading this has one!
I once read in a car mag that the engine in the 150bhp 16v was too much for the chassis, what must 460 be like lol
Mint car
ah it wasnt though, i suppose eventually it would strain it and rip it apart but not as bad as people say, they got used a shit load in rallies and still do today with a few strengthening mods.
early 1's were 156bhp
later ones were 150
c20let engine is 204 from factory
I love the owner's expression while driving - pure enjoyment :)
Had a GTE back in the 90s. Late to get back to the Air Force base early hours one morning driving through the Cotswolds and I saw hazards flashing out of a bush. It was a GTE parked backwards in a ditch. I slowed down in mine after 🤣Very dodgy handling!!
U blast out a bend not blast into one and loose it
Love the old power band different feelings makes me smile need more of this men get them out the garage let us c them😃😃😃
Just love this video.. have a grin on my face the whole time watching it😂😂😂 I actually own a 91 Opel Kadett Super boss. Only 500 made in South Africa. Love it to bits!
Those are some rare beauties.
Best hot hatch ever made, just my opinion.
Still to this date one of my favourite engines I had a c20let in a nova but the early costcast heads it was Courtney sports demo car it was a weapon!
I had same car back in the day, mine had a Courtenay Turbo conversion. It ran 220 bhp and the torque steer was crazy. This thing has double the power!!
Of course the power is amazing, but keeping a 90’s car in mint condition like this...that’s a real petrolhead !!!
Love at the first sight with that beautiful thumbnail. Great car!
Yes yes ricky pulls another classic hero out the bag!!!! Whos got a special Nova GTE they wanna show ricky????
@@rubelkhan3439 ricky fancy it?? Providing Ruble wants to be on you tube?
Beautiful car! As a kid I loved the Astras and Sierra Cozzies and it puts a smile on my face to see one looked after/tuned to perfection!
I brought a GTE when I was 15. Got banned from driving the same day 😂 I paid £50 for it but didn’t pass my test till I was 24 so fuck it I won 😁
I'm a ford man through and through but this is absolutely perfect. Best word for it, perfect.
7:14... all the POLICE ever saw of those car's... 🤷♂️😂
The police used to also use these for their unmarked cars as well.
Much respect to keeping to keeping such a old iconic classic alive. I've got a 1.8 vtech sport accord and that will be with me for much more years to come.
MK2 GTE hands down best astra ever made.
This channel just keeps getting better & better!
Loving the old skool vibe!
Here in the netherlands it's called Opel kadett GSi
we had gsi and gte's, how does that work over there?
@@Soulvex same to us, i don't know when but first there was GSE only and i think since the kadett it became GSi
@kurtis howard no, but there were nof GTE's here, they changed the name after a few models. I'm not sure, i'm a subaru guy, not an opel guy
Soulware3D gte was a vauxhall Astra for the British market the Gsi was an opel Kadett and was for the Europe market
@@Shane-zx4ps they had different trims in the uk and same running gear if i remember rightly. maybe i'm confused with the mk3 astra gsi.
love these old motors, great that people tune and keep them alive,
new cars are soulless,
loving this channel and calvins car diary, keep up the good work guys.

Sapphire Cosworth
And a V6 Clio
Hes done a pulsar about 3 weeks ago
On gt4 you went straight to the caterham and fully modded it i bet 😆
This car is a monster. One time a friend from the city stopped in front of my living (cafe). Bep bep, he offered me a ride. I had nowhere to go but stepped in anyways, he wanted to show off. He had this Opel GSI, with the electonic speedometer. He did a couple of laps through the inner-city. I was scared riding shotgun, that car was so fast. Beautifull
those dislikes are from Renault 5 gt owners😅
😂👊🏻
Stunning. I had a couple of Astra's in the early days but this is next level. Fantastic to see such an old hatch being kept relevent ... And quick! Beautiful!
I had 2 of these red top legends a GTE as in the video and a Gsi absolutely loved both✊🏼
J B I redtop swapped my 1.4 corsa when I was 18, good old days
Unknown D that must of been an absolute weapon 😎 I used to upset absolutely everyone back in the day those engines are legendary. I can only imagine what it was like in a corsa 🤣you must have destroyed everything
J B had a lot of fun with it, me and a mate did buy a nova to do the same but the deeper we got into it the more rust we found, ended up putting the ford mondeo 2.0L 16v into a fiesta that was also a lot of fun😂 to lazy for all that now haha
I'm loving this channel!!! I cannot get enough!!! Keep up the great work
