    Figure Drawing Exercises!
    In this video I go over the basics of drawing your character from different angles. With high camera angle and low camera angles.
    I also show how these same techniques can be used for stylised characters that don't have human anatomy (right at the end).
    Learning to master these skills takes a long time. And there are many ancillary skills tied up in figure drawing. Perspective, Form Drawing, and your ability to visualise the three dimensional space are key.
    But it's not just a matter of learning all the basics first and then at some distant point in the future becoming amazing... the process involves back and forth. Spending time applying your skills... Drawing fun/interesting things... and then going back to the well of technical drawing to improve your foundation.
    Hopefully these demonstrations and exercises can help you with the basics of drawing figures from different angles. And inspire you to brush up on your perspective foundation.
    Once you get good at these basic manipulations of the perspective and camera angle... you can play more and more with the camera angle and extreme nature of the distortion.
    If you want to learn about the techniques I am using based on the Loomis Method you can check out these videos:

    Posing The Figure - • Learning to Pose Your ...
    Different Body Types - • Learning to Draw Diffe...
    Draw Straight Lines (Grid Exercise) - • Want to Draw Perfect S...
    With most types of stylised types of art - There is often a mix of structure and perspective and technical drawing.... combined with symbols and abstract features.
    Once you get good at blocking in proportion and posing with the Loomis Method you can use it to suit your own style.
    It's just a tool you can use to help you draw cool stuff!
    Happy Drawing!

    I just got the Loomis books to learn more closely from your teachings :) Later I'm also looking into getting into your line & color academy.
    I'm learning from different sources like Proko, Drawabox, Marco Bucci, Peter Han, etc. Your style is a very nice change of pace and a reminder that all these technical lessons are just a means to get back to drawing cooler stuff. So thank you very much for all your content, I really appreciate them! 🙏

    Exactly the lesson I needed. Your videos are amazing. You explain things I already knew or seen before in a new perspective, or things I was learning through practice without having the words for them yet. A much more practical drawing lesson than most things I've seen in years. Thank you so much for this.

    Exactly what I needed. Stumbled across your videos while reading loomis books. And picked up everything much faster than from the books. Not saying the books were bad just your way of explaining made the process of consuming of loomis methods much easier.
    Thank you 😊

    9:01 Hope I knew this when I was starting learning how to draw stuffs... And also, extensive dynamic angle shots are not necessarily more difficult than "fairly simple" shots because you can get away with more drastically exaggerated posing while simples shots usually require more precision due to its needs of clarity over dynamic flow of the shot.

    • @TheDrawingCodex
      @TheDrawingCodex  Год назад +1

      That’s a great point and totally true from my experience! Dynamic poses can be extremely forgiving. I feel one of the hardest things to do is just draw standard characters sitting or standing next to each other in a scene while keeping everything accurate. There is very little wriggle room… You have to get everything just right.

    Question, is the loomis mannequin better or the boxy boi mannequin (which is made of boxes, cylinders, spheres) better?

    • @TheDrawingCodex
      @TheDrawingCodex  Год назад +1

      Whatever works for you is best in my opinion. For me the Loomis one is quicker to draw because most of it are simple lines.

      I got them on Amazon many years ago. I don't think they have this set there anymore that I could find. They are made of foam. Try searching for Foam geometric solids. Or something similar. Normally used as a teaching aid for basic shape learning etc (for younger kids I imagine).
