Quick answers: yes, it was Naomi, yes, the quality of the video is meant to be like that and yes, the fully naked lady at the end is Madonna. not only the song Erotica is great and provocative , but the album also called Erotica, the Sex book with her Dita persona ( the one with the mask in the video) and the movie Body of evidence were too much for the 90’s. Madonna was everything the world needed, but they couldn’t take it ! Watch from this album the videos for “Deeper and deeper “ and also “Bad girl”. They’re perfect! 😀
What about Rain? It’s just perfect and beautiful! Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails said in an interview that when he saw what mark Romanek (director of the video ) what he had created visually and artistically with that song he def wanted him to direct closer (1994)...then M, created another visual masterpiece with Romanek in 1995: Bedtime Story ✨

the 80's and early 90's had 'dangerous' music. There's a quote from Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails who says that music was so much more non-restrictive back then, people just put themselves out there in a way that isn't done today. Less flashy, more 'risque' in a tasteful and purposeful way. This is a song about sex and it's lusty and sexy. 'Sexy' music videos these days are people twerking their asses; it's not the same thing.

This video was filmed during the making of Madonna’s infamous “SEX” book which featured many famous people that you’re seeing in the music video. Some people in the book not featured in the video include Vanilla Ice and Big Daddy Kane. The video was only shown on MTV at midnight for 3 nights. The only way to see it again was to record it to VHS tape back then. Other vids you have to see: “American Life (uncensored), What It Feels Like For A Girl, Express Yourself, Papa Don’t Preach, Frozen, and Vogue. All these videos are an absolute MUST.
This is the title track from her album Erotica. She released a coffee table book titled SEX the same day as the album. It had a metal cover. The book features a few pictures of Madonna and Naomi. On the last shot of the video that’s Madonna, which Valentina later recreated on Season 9 on the Madonna runway. You should definitely react to some albums and tours too. I’ll gladly be your Madonna historian.

the cinematography is designed to recreate madonna's dreams and sexual fantasies, hence the blurred visual effects. it also integrates some of the risque cabaret performances in pre-WW2 germany (1920s-early 1930s), which was an unusual time of sexual liberation before it all came crashing down with the nazis. the overlay references madonna's experience with the moral majority in the late 1980s - early 1990s, when she was put through through ringer by the media for expressing sexuality so openly.
Your reactions are EVERYTHING! This song has a special place. Picture it, little Louisiana college town 1993. My BFF (a gay man trapped in a woman's body) and I standing outside of the city's only gay dance bar, shaking like leaves debating if we should go in or not for the first time. We hear this song come on, decision made and our lives were forever changed.
This was another #1. Looking forward to your Madonna journey. In addition to breaking many barriers with homosexuality, female sexuality, racism, feminism, aids, etc Madonna has made some beautiful ballads over the years. Be sure to include some of those too. Love her rebel side, but her softer side is also amazing. She sings very relatable songs of love and relationships and emotes so much emotion through her vocals.
steven yany Erotica peaked at #3. Madonna’s #1 hits from the 90s are: 9-Vogue, 10-Justify My Love, & 11-Take a Bow. 2000’s 12-Music was her final #1 hit.
I'm so happy to see you guys exploring her videos. Madonna is one of my favorite artists ever. Here are my recommendations for you: Human Nature, Hung Up, Ray Of Light and one of the recent ones, GOD CONTROL
Thanks for the information I look in the internet and the theater had a lot of history. Sadly was demolished in 2005. Wish it could survived all the New York demolition of theaters an old mansions.
I loved you guys for showing this video. I was a youngish late twenty something when Madonna put this song out. And I LUVVV IT!!! As for your comments about the supposed video quality. I am a kid born in 1963 and managed to view porn movies back then in my seventeen year old days. This is very reminiscent of those old movies that were recorded on what was called 8 mm film back in the day. Just do your homework. Anyway... I love your showing "Erotica" 💋
@@DanDTV I agree with this 100% its an incredible live performance especially for naysayers who say Madonna can't sing. Her vocals are incredible in it.
I believe this version of the video only aired in Europe. The American version was toned down a bit and only aired 3 times on MTV after midnight. All the setups in this video were from the photo shoots for Madonna's Sex Book. If you look closely, you'll see Naomi Campbell and Vanilla Ice.
Few things about this video, the sample music in the background towards the end where you see the cross is by Lebanese legend Fairouz( singing about Jesus getting crucified) the video had many celebrities including Isabella Rossellini and the only Naomi Campbell. Also that is Madonna's body , and the last scene with the her hitchhiking naked, is what Valentina did for the Madonna runway.
"why dont' people do this now???" -- cause she suffered such a backlash that pop artists everywhere were frightened back. She is to this day a pioneer, and most people don't know it.
lol!! it was fun to watch to your reaction. Quality of the vid is supposed to be grainy and looking like an old vintage video of underground scene. There is a lot of celebrities and female and male Supermodels from that time like Naomi Campbell, Isabela Roselini, Vanilla Ice, Denise Rodman, etc. Is all her naked, no doubles. Last look is more like an homage to Angie Dickinson look, but all naked. That was a fierce Madonna era, pioneer, aggressive, true to herself like always, but exploring and sharing her sexual fantasies. Great Album! my favorite Madonna era. Ditta era.
Not a die hard fan of madonna so i dont have thoughts to share with you guys, but Im still here to see your reactions to the video 🤣 entertaining as always 😂😍
So fun watching this younger generation reacting in such shock to Madonna's work! I saw this video as a child and I remember being mesmerized by the visuals, the music and the beat. You really should pay attention to the lyrics... Madonna has a wealth of amazing work and she is THE QUEEN for a reason!
It was filmed in miami beach, I was there during the filming of the gas station scene and the naked one asking for a ride on the street.....everyone in south beach had a “Madonna” experience....she then was at night at this club called Warsaw in soth beachc.... we met her several times it was an amazing time to be young, gay and in Miami....early 90’s
Thanks guys! Fun reaction. Yeah. Madonna liked to be naughty. Lol So, yes, the video was intentionally shot that way. You young dudes crack me up though. I remember watching a reaction to the Vogue music video by these two 20 something guys. They were both like, oh, wow, this video is really old. It’s in black and white. 🤣😂 Ummm.... noooo. Some things are done this way for creative\artistic reasons. It’s not like these were produced in the 1940’s. They did have color back in the ‘80’s and 90’s. LOL Made me laugh out loud. Anyway, thanks for entertaining me dudes. Stay safe! Cheers!
Now do you understand why a Madonna fan will never understand why other singers or artists are worth being loved. She has done everything, she did it long before and MUCH better. Being a fan of hers is like learning about life. She is not just a popstar. She is an ARTIST.
Madonna is way ahead of our time. Imagine this song was released in 1992. Bringing the underground to the main stream. Everyone was shocked at that time. LOVE HER!
Unless you were born before 1992 you can not appreciate how much Madonna's star power was. She broke new ground and pushed the boundaries so far out before their time. Noone will ever come close to Madonna's drive, ambition, sheer artistry.
BTW, this was not the official version of the video. The official censored version showed on MTV only after dark. The guy who has the whip and rides her like a horse is the same guy from the Justify my Love video, Tony Ward.
It's absolutely incredible the way you both react to Madonna videos, I really enjoy it because Madonna is not an ordinary artist, so you react as the way she deserves 😉
Madonna was is and will always be the number 1 trend setter. Keep exploring her legendary work. As for what to watch, her list is endless:) Frozen, you’ll see, Vogue, Take a bow, Ghost town, nothing really matters, american life, love profusion just to name a few 😉
Loved your reaction 😂 its really interesting to see this videos through the eyes of new generations. Yes this version is low quality, the standar version its far superior in editing and quality. If you want to see her best videos and perhaps the ones that, by now, shows the vibe of the times and have sort of a message implicit id suggest Deeper and Deeper and Bedtime story, this one was actually acquired by the MoMa as a permanent piece in their art collection😉
The video is actually a montage of videos Fabien Baron took during the making of her Sex Book during the summer of 1992. A lot of artist are in this project actually. Most music television around the globe broadcast the censored version after midnight. The reason Madonna did this video and others like "Justify my love" in 1990 was because a very conservative USA was basically telling woman how they should act, how they should do their work and portrayed woman. Madonna didn't approve. It basically started when she did Like prayer. Madonna was talking issues that were still happening in the country. But Madonna wanted to use her platform to talk about them. The public on the other hand was bias. They know they had to be talked about but to be thrown in their face, they weren't ready for Madonna. But because every new project she was releasing was too hot or too heavy for the public, Madonna did it bigger the next step. Too prouve a point: Stop telling woman how to behave and do their work.
Madonna is an art geek, 100%. She knows a lot about photographers in the past who were wild geniuses, this video was filmed during the making of the Sex book. Steven Meisel was a famous fashion photographer that had a degree in graphic design from Parsons, every big photographer had a coffee-table book of their work except Steven and Madonna talked him into it after a publishing house offered her a book deal. The artistic influences Madonna and Steven had during this time were the works of photographer Man Ray. If you want to see Madonna's and Steve's first collaboration done right years prior to Erotica check out the album cover to Like A Virgin.
So, to answer how people saw the uncensored version of this, MTV played it only three times at midnight and then deemed it too hot for airing. This was her second video to ever be banned from MTV. The first obviously being “Justify My Love. “
Imagine being an underage, closeted adolescent who stayed up til midnight to watch this on one of the handful of times it aired on MTV. Everything you felt times 10.
I'm a true blue Madonna fan since 1985 and I'm really thrilled to see how you guys have reacted to her unconventional artistry! I highly suggest that you try to see her "Material Girl" video - It epitomizes the "age of excess" that characterized the 1980s. Very glamorous! ❤
Don’t forget Isabella Rossellini is in the video also. The quality was intentional and meant to resemble old Berlin pornographic and soft porn movies. If you watch Jessica Lange’s character’s movie performance in American Horror Story Freak Show you’ll see similarities. The video was supposed to be in conjunction with the book “SEX” which had detailed and up-close photos of all of those scenes and more! You had to buy the VHS (video tape) to see this version. Even the tame one they would only play on MTV after 10pm and they would have advisory notices before they’d play it. MTV was pissed because she was one of their biggest video stars and she was pushing them to do stuff they didn’t want to do, which was also part of the intention of the video. She once said that Dita (the dominatrix character she played) would teach them and guide them (MTV) through this journey. They were on edge for the longest time from that point forward.
Hi boys! Love you! Ok, vids from The Virgin Tour, Drowned World Tour, Reinvention Tour, MDNA Tour, also do Sticky & Sweet Tour!!! You guys are amazing! Nick, Los Angeles.
Just to be super clear, you are watching the "uncensored" version which pretty much never aired on TV (except in France once) - this uncensored version was supposed to be released as a video single Christmas of 1992 - I remember, because I had it on order/hold at my record store but they canceled it. Anyway my point is, the quality of this uncensored version is because there isnt a digital version of this available - I had a promo copy of this on VHS and I believe you are watching my copy that was upload in the mid 2000's with the tech we had then. I sold the promo tape so cant upload with modern day technology anymore. Anyway, if you watch the OFFICIAL version of Erotica, the quality is much better but like the other commenters already said, some of the scenes were shot during the making of her sex book and it was filmed on 16mm to get a grainy quality and so those parts would be grainy mixed in with her regular video quality moments where she's in her dom outfit performing the song. Think you mentioned you watched what was on her official channel - i dont think thats accurate. This has never officially been made available. The official version played on MTV for 3 nights after 11pm and then stopped airing.
where did people watch the uncensored version? like "justify my love," i understand that gay bars were the only place one could see this on heavy rotation (even radio stations avoided the controversy). i was too young during this period, but remember going to gay bars in the late 1990s, where her videos and live performances were a staple of the scene. another fine point about this time (the early 1990s) is that neither prep nor the cocktail drugs were available, so gay men were still dropping like flies to aids. to an impressionable kid questioning their identity, the prevailing message from the media, from society, and from our own families was that this "plague" was our punishment for coming out, for expressing our sexuality, for just living our lives. madonna, who had lost so many gay friends to it, understood hiv/aids as a disease disproportionately impacting gay folks because of political inaction fueled by homophobia. as a pre-teen seeing these videos, her live performances (her "vogue" dragball production at the mtv awards set the stage for the show "pose" nearly 30 years later), and the "truth or dare" film, i felt madonna was on a mission to validate our existence, our community, and our right to be sexual beings at a time when few others did.
Yes, that's Naomi! And Yes that's all Madonna. The grainy 8mm footage from the video was filmed during the making of Madonna's iconic S.E.X book, by Steven Meisel. It featured many of her celebrity friends, and was not only a N.Y.T. best seller, but the most sought after and biggest thing ever, at the time. Madonna is still pop music's most controversial and iconic artist ever! She was getting censored, and excommunicated but brought the ART. She truly paved the way and broke down the barriers. Madonna created a blueprint, or formula that all of today's top diva follow, whether the know it or not. I can remember the pop music landscape before Madonna, so I clearly see her influence EVERYWHERE ! It's why she's referred to as the "Queen of Pop." I'm so glad y'all are getting educated... werk!
I’ll give you love, I’ll hit you like a truck. I’ll give you love, I’ll teach you how to 🦆 (it’s a grainy video as it’s meant to resemble pornos from back in the day, and yes that’s Madonna naked hitch hiking at the end) you gotta see the sex book which accompanied the single - listen to the erotica album too. Songs about eating out and also standing up for the gays and hiv/aids victims circa 1992
Love you guys!! You are so lucky to be able to react to such Masterpieces for the first time. Please react to “Oh father”. It her most cinematic video and saddest ever made.🙏🏻💜
I would say, you should react next to “Human Nature” since it’s basically the continuation of “Erotica” after she received backlash. Thanks for doing this, btw! 🙏❤️
In NYC, there was a call-in music video channel called The Box where you could order videos to watch that would be aired after you paid something like $9.99 to watch the more explicit ones. I ordered Erotica at least 20 times.... And got in a metric shit ton of trouble for it. As a 41 year old practicing homosexual, I have to say: totally worth it. Madonna is still my queen.
This one of a few videos that were banned. Though a few years later they’d air banned videos after midnight. This one one,Justify my Love, Closer by Nine Inch Nails all we’re viewed after midnight. Her videos still hit the same way.
superbly done. well, seems like David Fincher is the director of many top fave mv's of mine from many a-list artists. a lot from my Madonna's faves are by DF as well.
HI GUYS , THE QUALITY OF THE VIDEO IS FINE, WHAT SHE DID , WAS PORTRAIT LIKE A 1900'S BLACK AND WHITE KIND OF ERA, WHERE WOMEN HAD NO POWER, DIDN'T TALK ABOUT SEX , POLITICS,ECT. SHE KNEW IT WAS GOING TO BE BANNED, SO SHE DID IT IN A VHS FORMAT AND SOLD IT. GREAT BUSINESS WOMAN. THAT'S HOW SHE STARTED THE 1990 DECADE, ALSO SOME OF THE PHOTOS FROM HER SEX BOOK ARE INSPIRED BY THE EROTICA VIDEO AND JUSTIFY MY LOVE. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A WAY TO LOOK FOR THAT BOOK CALLED SEX. IT WAS A LIMITED EDITION ONLY AND SOLD IN A MATTER OF HOURS.
Jose Vazquez it was the Justify My love video that was sold as a video single not Erotica. Also the pics for the sex book are not inspired by the erotica video, the erotica video was literally video footage of the photo shoots from the sex book. Also you guys doing the reaction, it’s not old or bad quality, that’s how the video was supposed to look. It’s representative of the dirty seediness of the underground S&M sex culture. I’m not speculating on any of this I’m old enough to have lived through this era. I was 17 when the sex book, erotica album and consequently the movie Body of evidence came out. She was hitting the world with a triple whammy. Bitch had some shit to get off her chest, no pun intended. I also own a copy of the sex book. It’s fascinating if you ever get a chance to see one.
I got the scans. Here is the download link. I know its illegal. But how can we see the book aniway? kupdf.net/download/madonna-sex-full-book_58cf7683dc0d603439c34668_pdf#
Love your reactions. If you want true art and a virtual mind trip on acid, check out Madonna's Bedtime Story. Beautiful, trippy, haunting, ethereal, and scary, all at once.
Priceless reaction, please react to any of the following: Vogue, Deeper and Deeper, Bedtime Story, Bad Girl, Hung Up, Human Nature, Take A Bow, Like A Prayer, Express Yourself. ...it's really endless when it comes to Madonna and music videos.
Released in 1992, (almost thirty years now) Madonna was trail blazing and knocking down walls wherever she went. In season 9 of RPDR this video was the inspiration for both Sasha Velour's dominatrix look and Valentina's naked runway (with only black strips to hide her dignity) just as Madonna had done while hitch hiking during the clip.

Death Becomes Her was released the same year as this video. Isabella was popping off in ‘92.
"Human Nature" is her response to all the backlash she recieved for Erótica and her SEX book. So you should react to that next.
The rope choreography has never been matched.
It would be awesome if they react to Human Nature next. After Justify my love and Erotica uncensored, Human Nature would be perfect.
Miguel Nuñez second or third this.
That would be hilarious,if they reacted to Madonna's "Sex"book🙊

Stay safe! Cheers!
"I'm gonna watch this alone later!" LOLOLOL
Antonio Beardall omg that’s amazing 😱
It is not "old", it is an artstical choice to make it look like that
It's absolutely incredible the way you both react to Madonna videos, I really enjoy it because Madonna is not an ordinary artist, so you react as the way she deserves 😉
...well as someone who went out to the bars alot in my 20's -30's during 80's-90's - these Madonna Vids played in BARS all the time..
rextrek that’s awesome! 😫😫
This looks older on purpose: the look of the vid and sound of the song is“vintage”
Lol, I'll NEVER forget this song...it was after all the background song while I got my freak on at my cubicle at work...he was great btw. Lol
Human nature next! It’s about all the hate she got after this era
Love, love, love seeing the children get educated. ❤️ 😘
Sasha Velour did the Dita (M with eyemask) look in her season. One of he few times she wore a wig.
Madonna was is and will always be the number 1 trend setter. Keep exploring her legendary work. As for what to watch, her list is endless:) Frozen, you’ll see, Vogue, Take a bow, Ghost town, nothing really matters, american life, love profusion just to name a few 😉
Human Nature!
Lol “ I’m going to watch this alone later “.
Can't believe it has taken you so long to do research on Madonna´s art
Kenny Dominguez agreeeed 😫
Madonna, Cherish.
THAT IS NAOMI CAMPBELL MAKING OUT WITH HER
Madonna Vogue MTV Awards Live 1990
I love watching reactions to that.
@@Joelsellers29 me too!! Any one you'd recommend highly?
She literally walked down los ANGELES freeway in heels naked
PLEASE, watch American Life (uncensored version) in my opinion her BEST video yet
I'm so fucking excited that you are doing a Madonna Series! Yassss!
Watch Human Nature next.
I'm a true blue Madonna fan since 1985 and I'm really thrilled to see how you guys have reacted to her unconventional artistry! I highly suggest that you try to see her "Material Girl" video - It epitomizes the "age of excess" that characterized the 1980s. Very glamorous! ❤
More Madonna pls! Yes, I've just subscribed for that!
haha loooooved you guys' reaction... hugs from brazil
Yyyaaasssss!!! I'm loving this idea!!! Love the nails Andy!!!
I LOVED this!!!!!! Thank you ..... miss girl is gorgeous 💙
Erotica is from 1992 and the video was shot to look like an old homemade video .The song says " I'll teach you how to ****"
They would air it only after midnight when It can out
After three times during midnight, the video was banned totally in MTV at the same title of ''Justify My Love''.
The official version played on MTV for 3 nights after 11pm and then stopped airing.
the quality is art!!!!! haha they made it like that! and it was madonna n very scene when you were askng who it was. and it was naomi! :-)
The quality is meant to look “old.” Madonna’s desire behind the Erotica album was for an underground sound and as well for the video.
where did people watch the uncensored version?
like "justify my love," i understand that gay bars were the only place one could see this on heavy rotation (even radio stations avoided the controversy). i was too young during this period, but remember going to gay bars in the late 1990s, where her videos and live performances were a staple of the scene. another fine point about this time (the early 1990s) is that neither prep nor the cocktail drugs were available, so gay men were still dropping like flies to aids. to an impressionable kid questioning their identity, the prevailing message from the media, from society, and from our own families was that this "plague" was our punishment for coming out, for expressing our sexuality, for just living our lives. madonna, who had lost so many gay friends to it, understood hiv/aids as a disease disproportionately impacting gay folks because of political inaction fueled by homophobia. as a pre-teen seeing these videos, her live performances (her "vogue" dragball production at the mtv awards set the stage for the show "pose" nearly 30 years later), and the "truth or dare" film, i felt madonna was on a mission to validate our existence, our community, and our right to be sexual beings at a time when few others did.
It's why she's referred to as the "Queen of Pop." I'm so glad y'all are getting educated... werk!
The Sex book is LITERALLY going for $200-800. I could never
I’ll give you love, I’ll hit you like a truck.
It her most cinematic video and saddest ever made.🙏🏻💜
Love your reactions! 😂😍😮🦹🏼♀️
“What’s in her mouth... a lollipop.. “..it’s ball gag...
I recommend watching Bad Girl. That video always had an emotional effect on me.
superbly done. well, seems like David Fincher is the director of many top fave mv's of mine from many a-list artists. a lot from my Madonna's faves are by DF as well.
I love your madonna videos ! Your reactions are so funny .. hugs
Please do a reaction to Maddona "bedtime story" and "what it feels like for a girl'
21st-century kids can’t even come close to knowing how we partied and our music was vastly superior then today’s music.
The reaction is so endearing lol.
So glad I am about to watch this! So glad this is happening!
I laught like a crazy guy with your videos... i suscribe
Released in 1992, (almost thirty years now) Madonna was trail blazing and knocking down walls wherever she went. In season 9 of RPDR this video was the inspiration for both Sasha Velour's dominatrix look and Valentina's naked runway (with only black strips to hide her dignity) just as Madonna had done while hitch hiking during the clip.
yes it's Naomi Cambell! This song has aged very well. You can see the HD version it's been uploaded recently on Madonna's channel.
Sasha Velour did that look for her Madonna Runway challenge
