Madonna's ex-backup dancers Dare to speak their Truth

- In 1991, an intimate documentary, "Madonna: Truth or Dare", promised to take audiences behind the scenes of the singer's famously boundary-smashing Blond Ambition World Tour. Twenty-five years later, a new documentary says there was far more going on backstage - from painful secrets to broken promises. Three of the tour's ex-dancers, Oliver Crumes, Jose Gutierez and Kevin Stea join guest host Gill Deacon to discuss how the film "Strike A Pose" reveals what became of them when the wild ride was over.

q is a magazine show that’s unpredictable in the best sense - proud to be “a wild mix of culture by way of Canada” as described by the New York Times. The Globe & Mail noted the show’s “raging popularity across a variety of platforms -- podcasts, television, websites, satellite radio, terrestrial radio, and occasional live remote broadcasts." - Развлечения
These men are icons. One of the things I love about Madonna is that she was never afraid to put great talent around her. She always chooses the best artists for her shows.
I agree wholeheartedly, very well put
Have you seen truth or dare, love her[MADONNA] , praying the aids march is no longer symbolic of our way of life. We need cure.
This lady is an excellent interviewer. She asked the questions, and let us hear the answers without constantly interrupting like most interviews.
Yes! Nancy Grace comes to mind. Ugh
I AGREE. Excellent interviewer.
Violet Blue Amen to that
Violet Blue I agree. That is the power of radio.
I thought that, too. Very professional and pleasant.
I ran into Kevin at a club in Los Angeles about 12 years ago and literally stopped him in a hallway (I think we were both in line for the restroom or something) to tell him thank you for what he did and for inspiring me to become a dancer when I was a kid lol 🙈 We laughed and he gave me a hug and was so sweet, gracious, and ADORABLE! Thanks again, Kevin 🙃
Probably the ABBEY
@@damien1781 Not the Abbey..Can't remember the name but it was in the area. Had another friend performing at the same venue that night for some event.
Met Kevin at the Bourbon Room last year. The sweetest guy ever. The second I saw him I knew it was him.
This interviewer is great because she allows her guests to talk. It's about her guests not her. A+
Led Zep yes exactly
Led Zep I agree. That is the power of radio.
Gill Deacon CBC Toronto
Years later people still talk of that tour. That is how brilliant it was. It was the right moment. The energy. It defined the coming years. It set a bar.
Who is the interviewer? She's really good. This interview flows like a very natural conversation.
that helps when you're a good person which she is
Eric Pratt oh wow thanks for the info
MechanicalAnimal I agree. That is the power of radio.
Mechanical.... yes very natural conversation, very clean. I love her style.

"Blond Ambition World Tour" - the best Madonna's tour ever. Great music, atmosphere, the best dancers ever. It was all magical. Thumbs up!
Blond Ambition is my favourite tour followed by Confessions.
@@BB_arbie Blond!
Mines the Girlie Show
M@@zarajenkins6948 Agreed especially in NYC! Madison Square Garden!
mine hard candy
I've just spent most of watching this video in tears. The Blond Ambition Tour was the first time I saw Madonna live at Wembley Stadium in London age 15, and I am just as much in ore of this show today as I was back then. It defiantly made me grab life by the balls and stand up to ignorance! I'm now a 44yr old guy who has just married the man of my dreams, on a boat with Madonna's Ghosttown as our walk in song in front of 65 straight people. Thank you Madonna and dancers for giving me the power to be me.
That's fantastic. Well done to you
Congrat!
I saw the BA tour too, here in Los Angeles. In the Truth or Dare film, it's the section where all the celebrities show up backstage. That's from the L.A. stop.
I wish I could have seen this tour live. This and the Girlie Show are masterpieces
And congrats on your wedding 💚
I was 22 when Vogue came out as a single and that video actually helped me finally come out. The movie, her dancers, were all a big part of me accepting myself and being brave enough to say, "Yes, I'm gay." I will always love Madonna and her troop for her being a pioneer for my generation.
That was myself as well. I was living in NYC and I was obsessed with this movie . It helped me come out
Now u know from todays news what shes really been doing for decades
I was probably in my early 30's when I watched it only because it was on one of the channels I got on Direct TV. Living far out in the country, I got only 3 channels. I had to turn the antenna towards the chicken house to get PBS, a mountain for Ch 6, and towards the barn roof on the W side for Ch 4. Then all of a sudden I get 100's of channels, including movie channels. So the Truth or Dare documentary could of been on A & E one of those. Madonna wasn't played on the Country Music Stations so she was virtually unknown other than a glimpse on T.V. or on a magazine cover at the checker's counter. My opinion of seeing her perform was shock. I had never seen her perform, so I was shocked for several reasons. Her showmanship and choreographed dance sequences while performing on stage were jaw dropping, even if you didn't know the songs or liked the music. The song Holiday I liked and was impressed with the way she included the audience. Like a Virgin was a song I felt could've been sung by a country artist, and the wedding dress scene was cutting edge without being smutty. When I saw the same song, Like a Virgin being performed with the male dancers in Egyptian clothing, and fondling themselves all over, and Madonna doing the same on a bed underneath them, the song went from being an innocent song about a woman feeling desired to a raunchy triple "X" pornographic performance. Her music I feel could've had a wider appeal if she didn't find it necessary to accompany each one with a strip show that cheapened the lyrics of the song, and the performance of the dancers.
She's a great journalist. Interview skills on point. She knows when to be silent and when to probe, and exactly how to gently get more. So glad she's around!
Gill Deacon ! Great voice
I would love to see Nikki and Donna being interviewed on the blond ambition tour.
Blonde Ambition They started on The Who's That Girl Tour
Nikki and Donna. They hold the lock and Madonna holds the key!
@@absoluteacw lol
Considering wot maddonna sed about nikki.. I'd love to no wot nikki really thinks x
@@miasmum001 what did she say about her?
How GREAT an artist has to be to have her Ex backup dancers featuring a full length documentary? Madonna, only.
Indeed. Try to name anybody else's back up dancers and then say that Madonna is all about Madonna... What a bunch of idiots. What Madonna did for these people (even if some of them weren't read for it) is beyond anything anybody has ever done for the gay community. I'm not gay, but even for me it was a PLEASURE seeing something so FREE and so human in the 1990s.
well, I'm not sure about her true intentions on setting statments about civil rights by showing openly gayness. I think it was more about shocking people (which is the driving force throuout her career) Whatever it was, it is her Star Power what have these guys on spotlight, then and NOW!
I know, growing up gay in upstate New York, that seeing Truth or Dare really changed my life and opened up my eyes that there was a great future ahead for me.
I'm gay Jenna, but will you marry me ;-)
In art is necessary to shock to make your message strong, clear and appealing and well, SHOCK is very relative, back then it was shocking, nowadays is not... but nowadays is not shocking thanks to Madonna who shocked back then...
WHAT AN EXCELLENT INTERVIEWER.
Welllllll done.
I love how Kevin grabs Oliver's hand
This is a TALENTED interviewer .... notice how it flows? Seems more like a conversation between friends vs in interview yet is totally revealing
''Strike a Pose' was much heavier from an emotional standpoint than I expected. But it was great. It gave me a lot to think about. I loved these guys as a middle school kid. And Ms. Deacon is a wonderful interviewer. This was good.
Kevin has aged beautifully. Yes for the silver fox moments x
Do you know hes last name... he still totally hot and interesting
I think EVERYBODY had the hots for Kevin, way back since the Vogue video to the tour and then to the doc.
He's SMOKIN hot! I think he got better looking as he got older. Intelligent and just gorgeous
he's still so beautiful
That was one of the best interviews I have ever seen! The lady made great questions and the boys were so expressive about everything! Very fun to watch and I even got teary-eyes at some moments!
I wish this interview would go on forever! I love those guys so much!!
I love this interview!! How wonderful these three were and how they still are 25 years later. Missed the other three. R I P Gabriel Trupin
Can we have a moment....That Interviewer is AMAZING!!!! Great Questions & Transitions in changing topics...OVERALL great interview!! I'm glad I came across this interview. :-)
This tour was a game changer. It set the stage for everything we have today. A groundbreaking magical time that I feel honored to have witnessed
Yes Blonde Ambition tour changed the tour game forever. It will always be my favourite tour ever.
AMAZING interview. She made them feel so confortable, I very much enjoyed the conversation.
This is awesome, to hear them after so long, growing up with the documentary Truth or Dare and recording Blond Ambition on VHS and watch it over and over. Wow. Thank you so much guys for this.
guy's what have you done since blonde ambition? I hope you've had a fantastic life. you guys were amazing dancers.
J. C. How is showing interest disgusting? ?
Madonna needs to make a official blonde ambition tour blu Ray release
+N Nikki Yes!!! The most iconic tour of all time and it's not even on Blu Ray or DVD or anything!
it was released in laser disc in the early 90's
The rights to the Nice concert are owned by Pioneer...M doesn't look back...and isn't too pushed as the vocals (and cinematography) are bad. Yokohama concert has the sets blowing around in the background, so that's a no-no. The Paris concert filmed by Alek Keshishian, excerpts of which were used in ToD is PERFECT...I think the only hold-up is because of the vocals and a licencing/rights issue with Miramax.....WHO KNOWS...ask Guy Oseary :)
It was shown on tv in the UK from Barcelona. i taped it. still got it.
There's also a rumor that the archived tapes for the tour were lost in 9/11 because they were in a vault at the World Trade Center
Who else is going to watch Truth or Dare [again] after this? ;)
I still have it on DVD. It made my collection! Nothing came after her.
Eileen D I know you from the Wendy Williams RUclips page lol
Cali OMG hiii! How funny lol- small world! Look at you, you're so beautiful ❤❤
Eileen D Very small 😄😁 And thank you!
Never seen it. Now I'll have to :-)
Q interviews, always fantastic!
You're all so humble and gracious in this interview ..it shows a great deal of good in your characters! Oliver Crumes, I think we all overlook the fact that you were only 19 years old during your time in BA. I thought you were awesome then, as you are now. Guys, thank you for letting us look closely into your experience..much respect to each one of you xx
Lovely interview. I'm curious about the (new) documentary now.
I was 5 years old when I first watched the Blonde Ambition Tour (Barcelona). My sister had recorded it and I watched it over and over again, and I still watch it to this day 33 years later. Iconic.
I was at Wembley Stadium Sat 21st July 1990 - Changed my life :)
Thanks for the upload!
1990 was A very special time for a 13th year old kid, from his eyes were opened without fear, love this guys!!! God bless them!!!
Awesome interview. Thank you for sharing.
This was excellent! What a nice energy on this interview! I watched the documentary Strike A Pose again because of this. Thank you! :)

A Touching Story I Never Heard! I suppose there are many stories like these guy's, but I think listening to this particular interview melted my heart! Thank you!

q on cbc thank you so much for posting this wonderful video; God bless you.
brilliant interview boys ... honest and humble ..👏👏🙏
Thank You for the great interview!!
You looks sooooo amaaaazing! Haven't aged a day! 😘Are you single?! X 😜
+Kevin Stea You look so beautiful. I love the change in your hair and the addition of the goatee. I wish you all the best.
Can't get over how you've somehow managed to look better over the last 25 years! Dayum! ;)
Stunning then and even more beautiful now!
you are insanely gorgeous xx
Madonna gave a lot of her staff (dancers, back-up singers, friends) room to shine in HER orbit. That's how we Leos roll: we are natural balls of magnetic light that attract people. However, that doesn't mean she was a very kind or generous person to be around. In her 20's and early 30's, she was still building her career and definitely full of herself. For her own brother to write a book exposing her says a lot. To be fair, Christopher probably misses all the good times he enjoyed with her in the 80's and 90's.
I recently read that book. I believe him. She was awful. Poor guy
This is such a delightful interview
That Versace black leather jacket is sitting!
super cool interview!!!
Phenomenal interview. I didn't want it to end.
What a great interview!
I still have that video Truth or dare on V.H.S some where in my treasure chest of classic memories.
Blonde Ambition was iconic in every way!
thank you for this interview ,so nice to see this guys again
Beautiful insightful interview.
Thank you!
I'm real glad to be seeing these guys and how they are all doing, cool conversations and stuff I didn't know, about being a madonna tour dancer...thanks for uploading!!
Excellent interview !
Jose Extravaganza will always be a legend, and he's a very down to earth nice person in real life. Jose, I love you.
NYC here. Wish I could run into him... to give him a hug.
Amazing interview!
Loved this whole era and loved each one of these guys and the back up dancers who are not included in this interview! Blond Ambition Tour was/is/will always be the ultimate tour that will always be looked at as legendary!!!! Madonna surely knows how to pick them.
Love the interviewer! She is amazing. I was 27 years old when this tour came out and the first time I saw Madonna in concert. It was one the best times in my life!
I proud of them very much! Oliver, Kevin, Jose...I wish Gabriel there... they made the tour! Wonderful interview ever...
My favorite part of the entire film (Truth or dare) was the dancers! I saw it in a motel in Eugene OR when I was homeless right after it came out, irrelevant but I'm just remembering that now... lol. I haven't seen the more recent docs but now I gotta find those. Can't wait to see what those have in store. I remembered the stories, the fun and the challenges of that tour and I felt an immense excitement for all those dancers (& singers too!) getting to have this larger than life experience. They were all so talented and interesting and engrossing and colorful! I grew up dancing but was never very talented (or committed, tbh) but having that background myself really helped me appreciate how amazing they all were. Gotta watch Truth or Dare again now. For the 15th time, or so. I'll have some new insight after watching this interview. Great interview, BTW! ❤️💕💞👍🙏✌️
LOVE IT!!!! thanks 4 sharing this treasure.
Never been a doc that topped this tour !!
Such a good interview!!!!
I still love Truth or Dare and the Blonde Ambition tour! Unforgettable! These stories are enlightening! Love you guys!
Great interview!
I loved this interview. Seeing these men thrive after so many years. xoxo
Holy shit that was a great interview!

"Avant Garde" Of diversity. That was that tour, these guys and Madonna. Period.
Blond Ambition is to this day my favorite Concert hands down. Thanks to these dancers who I adored just as much. Cannot wait to see the documentary Strike the Pose.

TODAY I met somebody Who Saw FIRST performance in Danceteria...Madonna 1983 friend of Jean Michel BASQUIAT at the time invNew York!!!
This guy Marc lives here in Spain since 1986.❤
lol, anyone remember in "Cherish" when these dudes were dressed as mermaids and had to flop around on the floor 😂
tea wrecks yes!! That was so HOT!!!
She’s never played that one again. One of my favorites. Strained her vocal range tho
THIS!!!...was most enjoyable!!!
Oh. Oliver looks struggling to express himself. It's hard to do it around extroverts. Great to see this interview.
Very good interview.
These men were amazing dancers during the Blonde Ambition tour.
For all the bad many people say about Madonna - she treats her staff and co-workers right. Good tipper also I have heard
Thank you for such a lovely interview. I grew up watching madonna and these talented dancers who inspired me a lot throughout my childhood. They have gained the best things in life - true friends for life. God bless you all. I love the documentary, I cried watching that, bring back so much memories. After all that fame, they struggled a lot in their lives but they have found each other again. Such a beautiful documentary, highly recommend. I am watching that again.
These men look so good still!
Philip Vanguard they certainly do. I loved watching them dance ,brilliant 😊
I agree! They look good and are special inside too, I believe, judging from their answers! 😍😍😍💞
fantastic thank you
Interview was the cat's meow .... these dancers were truly a siginificant part of that tour .... nice one and the interviewer was on the money ...big GRACIAS
What a great interview! I yope the guys can meet with Madonna and patch things up.
Interesting.......... and very emotional. I LOVE DANCE, and DANCERS rarely get much credit. Lovely guys..............thanks! cheers
Nice interview.
GREAT INTERVIEW AND INTERVIEWER. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Great bunch of guys. RIP Gabriel
Gay men have done so much for the arts it's literally insane. All the best broadway musicals, ballet principal dancers; fashion designers. I mean they are the epitome of what art is. I heard an interview where Madonna talked about how it was a gay man that encouraged her to pursue her dreams and move to NYC. The truth is they are warriors. They are judged and discriminated right and left and still they rise.
We DEFINITELY try. Thank you for recognizing that. ❤️✊
Hey guys 25+ years later, I STILL LOVE y'all ❤️!!
I'm a huge fan of Madonna,,,before i didn't know her and when I bought a compilation dance album with two of her songs e.g. Everybody and Burning Up....i was hooked with the beat when i listened to these tracks...later i was craving more for her songs..and when the first album release...i really save a lot just to get a copy of her first album...for these back up dancers...they are really fierce and the best dancers were really hand picked by Madonna to get into her tours...until now she always have the best dancers and that is why she always on top of the game...more power to Madonna with her upcoming theater tour ''Madame X Tour''....
I remember watching Madonna Truth Or Dare and I like Madonna and I saw this in 1991 the dancers and Madonna live and I loved Madonna and it must have been cool to work with her!
No other re make as great and authentic as this.
...Express yourselves...This interview was very interesting, and...very touching! It brought tears as also a lot of smiles. Love these guyz! and am pleased that Madonna gave them a chance! (except for the suing part...She should have stood by the promises she had given and not double back!) Truth or Dare...
May you walk in sunshine...

I remember when Truth or Dare came out, and it was so awesome, shocking, sexy,I wanted to be a dancer also, I was 14, and guess what, Now I'm a dancer.Inspired!!
