    The only thing which is almost as unbelievable as the greatness of this song, is the fact that very few people seem to realize the deep society criticism which is embedded within the lyrics.

      ForcefighterX2 Also TRAVIS did this song for charity and Fran Healey said it was best lyrics he had always loved. I use to be huge TRAVIS fan.I know Fran writes most lyrics for Travis,but he really was proud to be able to cover this song. They do go deep and again,like you,thats what i find so bloo*y clever,lyrics like this in 4 minutes. X

      @TheUltimate about how monotonous society is, it’s about, everything that’s wrong in our society, we all know what’s wrong, and have known for decades but do nothing about it, the needle goes back and we all singalong like before, we are the white mice, none of us are prepared to try and make a change, we all sit on social media making comments yet we do nothing, the-needle goes back to the beginning o the song and we all singalong like before, we accept inequality, illegal wars, poverty ,wars against each other, black against white, religion against religion gay against straight etc. we are constantly been conditioned wake up people of the world, we have the power,

    This is one of those rare songs that brings back memories and feelings from a time in my life where I can honestly say that I was truly happy.
    It doesn't even matter that the song is an underrated classic or that it contains some of the best lines ever written... it simply transports me back to a happier time in my life within the first few chords and for that reason it'll always be up there aloongside the most iconic tracks of the twentieth century.

  • @rouncer74
    @rouncer74 5 лет назад +3

    This song is not so bleak or literal as to mean that life is meaningless and the same. Rather, it is a comment on misplaced values in society, and the general public apathy seen in western culture.
    This is where the synagogue line comes in- tradegies should shock us more than they do, and society should ascribe more value to such events. Similar is the line about american businessmen buying van goughs for the price of hospital wings- you have to question a society where people can spend so much money on something so trivial, when so many people in the world suffer and die.
    No, this is not a look at the bleakness of life, but a call to awake from the apathetic circularity of modern life. Rather than allowing each day the be the same, this song hopes that we can make a difference each day, and thus make each day different.

My favourite line, however, is 'Now the traffic lights change to stop when there's nothing to go' - so bloody true to life.
