46100 Royal Scot 'The Golden Arrow' 30th March 2024

Out in the Southern Region and We see a ex-LMS Stanier Royal Scot Class 46100 Royal Scot with The Golden Arrow by Saphos Trains running from Poole to Hanwell hauled by Class 57 57311 and 46100 takes it on to Canterbury West and back.
The Original Outward Journey was suppose to be via the Redhill to Tonbridge Line but was shut due to a landslide at Edenbridge and so it was diverted on the Crystal Palace.
Location Taken: Wandsworth Common, Chartham, Sturry and Hildenborough.

But why did it need, what appears to be, a diesel engine at the rear?

Primarily, to provide electricity to run the kitchen and other creature comforts that you'd expect from a premier dining train. Secondly, to provide insurance to prevent avoidable delay.
