The quality that you put on these videos for something so niche is impressive

I think funnyplaying already makes an aftermarket GBA motherboard that they sell.

Those Retro Game Restore cases are awesome. I had a gross and cracked PC Engine and controllers that I swapped into his shells (the "smoke" ones) and it's such an improvement. Plus I got stickers/inlays from GrafxGear to finish those off. Also I replaced a brown and brittle Super Famicom case with RGR's clear one. It's smooth and shiny like glass and I would actually prefer a rough texture and some color to it, but it looks great anyway and it accepts cartridges from any territory now.

easiest way I can describe the NEC PC-FX is it's the successor to the PC engine/TurboGrafx 16, Japan only. It's game library is kind of notorious for not being really games and also being pretty deviant.

I wonder if we will ever see a redesign of the gba pcb into one that is in the shape of a gb pocket

You're the man, Dubes! Thanks! 😊
I have every Retro Game Restore shell so far and I love them all, but I am saving a lot of them for the consoles that I do the mods to, not just stock ones.

dang very nice video! Subbed! I really hope the GBA mb will be open source - would make add on projects so much easier!

New shells can look really cool, but realistically, for most systems, you can get a new system for cheaper than a replacement shell. Especially if it's a non working system with a shell that is in fine shape.

I hope the re gba boards will incorporate improvements to the ground plane and power input circuitry like what mathjis did with his game gear boards.
Having a 1:1 recreation is fine for repairing borked systems, but if you're going to that effort, it'd be nice to see some qol improvements to go with it.
If it does have improvements then ignore me, but if not, then that'd be a must have for me to buy one.

I absolutely love transparent shells for the use case you cited: something to show off. But I find there often *is* something to show off! OpenTendo is a great example, and so is the similar NESessity. And to be honest, I just think they look great in general, even for stock internals. Retro Game Restore's build quality is incredible; not your typical AliExpress replacement, no sir. They're lovingly crafted, artisanal shells, and I think having the transperent smoke NES option available to the community is important. I've been pushing for the 300 likes just to get that option out there for us, but I'm no influencer... 😆

Actually, thinking more about this, I just like clear shells in general. Even if the console is totally stock, I think the internals are really neat. Electronic internals aren't things we often see, but they're so interesting and beautiful (modded or not). Remember those old Apple iMac desktops that had clear shells? You couldn't see all the boards and the CRT of course, but it was neat. I loved that, and I love the clear cases today, even just for stock electronics.

Did one of the gba boards a few weeks ago. Was definitely a pain especially since the screen connector on my was crooked and so it messes with the screen a bit. Second board I am gonna do isn't crooked though which is good.

@Aisflou No worries. The Funnyplaying boards also have all the audio amps built into the boards so they are way louder than stock GBA.
