I really really really hope you enjoy this series. It’s the biggest project I’ve ever worked on by far and I’m really nervous about it! The audio and video was a bit rough for the first few days because I was too excited and overwhelmed to make sure everything was okay. Hopefully it will get better in the coming videos and you won’t mind too much! Also if there’s anything you want me to do different let me know now because I’ve not edited the other ones yet so I can adjust them to suit what people want! Love you all ❤
Men you did great and i gotta say its one of the videos i have most enjoyed in your Channel. keep up the good work Edit: im not english so please have that in mind when reading this
Elliot, I was beginning to wonder what happened to you. This explains it. Let me commend you on showing me the best and most thorough footage of Japan that I've seen. Because you actually took the time to film a lot of the "hole-in-the-wall" stores and show the massive amount of merchandise that these stores just blew me away. I was watching in total amazement and in complete awe the entire time. I felt like I was right there with you. I cannot wait for you to upload and publish Episode 2.
@@TheRetroFuture put back up the Pokémon emerald Rick roll cartridge video! 😂 I want to see that again man! Cmon! I’m a long time subscriber, you have to reward us with that!
Gosh, it's so mesmerizing to see these stores stocked with so much cool stuff. Even though it's just a video, it makes me feel like a kid in a toy store again . Can't wait to see what you do next! ❤
As always, absolutely fantastic content. I loved the different format of this video. You captured some terrific shots of Japan too. I am REALLY looking forward to more of the videos in this series. Keep up the amazing work!
I went to japan in 2010 and it was the best trip of my life. I'm now married with 2 kids so there's no way i'll ever be able to go back there...which make me sad a bit.
Love seeing all the old and exclusive stuff, someone like me will probably never get to Japan in person so this is a good as it gets, thank you Elliot!
This has to be honestly one of my favorite videos. I’ve always dreamed about going to Japan, especially to find all the cool & unique Nintendo items they have. Thanks 4 taking us on the journey!
I know it has nothing to do with games, but I'm also curious to see the cuisines y'all had in japan and maybe some recommendations if anyone were to go visit themselves lol
Seeing that boxed gameboy color broke my heart.. I’m currently in Tokyo too and I paid nearly double the price for the same gameboy in Akihabara. You win some, you lose some I guess 😅
I can see that you had a really great and unique time there. I hope i can visit Japan myself one day. The cultural difference is something that is worth witnessing.
This series is absolutely unreal! Couldn't love this more, so awesome to live vicariously through you on your trip. Love everything about this - just perfection! Keep em coming :)
Man, I miss shops like these. In my hometown there once was a retro game shop, but in the town I live now they even closed the GameStop. So nothing retro AT ALL here. Went on holiday the other day into a veeery big town. Internet said it had 3 Retro Games shops. One was for VERY RICH people looking for sealed stuff. One was a complete bust and the other one was in the middle of restructuring... at least they got good prices on the stuff that was actually there. This makes me want to go to japan. Just that damn language barrier....
yo this is about to be a REALLY good series! watching this really takes me back. I remember walking through the alleys of Golden Gai or spending hours and hours in Akihabara. God I miss Japan.... But seriously looking forward to more in this series. I think this might be one of your best ones yet man!
I was in the same stores as you and i was really disappointed. I only found 1 yellow Pocket with a burned screen for about 20€ (which i bought instantly). There was nothing left… just some extrem overpriced stuff like the micro you mentioned …. Now i have ordered all i wanted on Sendico… about 600€ worth of Gameboys, Games and stuff 🤓
Glad you actually got to see Tokyo like this. I did the same in 2013 and ended up playing street fighter in the arcade on the top floor of Super Potato smoking Marlboro reds. The best experience. Really can’t comprehend how lovely it is just wondering at night.
Awesome vid, though my favourite part might be you (tipsy and jet-lagged) excitedly showing off the path and streets while exclaiming “Alleyways! Staircases! Go up those stairs!”
Great work Elliot, really enjoying these and vicariously experiencing your joy at visiting these places for the first time. There's nowhere else like Japan and it's great you're getting to see so much of it. On a personal note, I'm reassured in a way you didn't find much in hard Off in Akihabara, as I thought I'd just been unlucky when I visited. I'd heard so many good things about it, but the two branches I visited there didn't have much for me, but good to hear you had better luck in some other regions!
I'm going to Japan for the first time myself at the end of July, and I plan on shopping around for retro gaming stuff as well so I can hardly describe how exciting this video is! Can't wait for the next episode!
Those faulty PSPs aren't faulty, just untested. I bought one last month. Sure I had to go on a treasure hunt around town for a battery and memory cards and charger (thanks hardoff junk section), but at the end of the day, I had a 3000 PSP with new battery, memory card, charger and 5 games for about ¥8500. I was happy
Brilliant series, this is my dream! Hopefully I get to do this someday. In the meantime, we'll all be living vicariously through your vlog series. Cheers!

Everybody always defaults to Super Potato in Akihabara, but the stores you REALLY want to hit are BEEP, and the Suruga-ya Game-kan right next door to BEEP. Admittedly, BEEP is a bit more... esoteric... than you might be looking for, specializing in old microcomputer standards and arcade PCBs and the like, but they do still have some Game Boy stuff on offer, and their prices are generally quite decent. And Suruga-ya Game-kan quite literally has probably THE best selection of Famicom, Super Famicom, Game Boy, etc. games you'll find in any one store in Japan, with its only real competition (not counting Super Potato, since that place is always picked out and/or overpriced) being Trader #1 -- an underrated spot for retro game collecting that people tend to pass over because they assume it'll be expensive and "corporate," when it's really anything but! If you find yourself back in Akihabara again, I highly recommend checking out BEEP and Suruga-ya Game-kan, as well as Trader #1. Support the lesser-known Akihabara retro game collecting gems, rather than continuing to line Super Potato's pockets! ;)
I actually went to the store next to the Hard Off in Akihabara (shown at 9:02) a few weeks ago and I bought four broken PSVita 2000s for 82,000 Yen each. They have been a fun project so far! I've been able to get 3 of them working, and 1 'kinda' working. Loving the content, keep it up!
Cool to see you there in 🗾 🇯🇵 Your point of view, and what you can be searching, is quite different then other. Mainly cause you practically have it all, and have huge knowledge of types of consoles and variations. It seems challenging and exiting. I'm so glad you had a BLAST in Japan and made it home safe!! LOVED this first part and can't wait to see the rest-- production quality is so lovely!! Thanks for taking us with you!!
In my experience, sendico is really only worthwhile if you plan to buy a ton of stuff. I bought a game gear and some games for about $50 total and shipping and customs came out to over the total of that. Spent somewhere around $120 in total. The game gear was a broken one of course. Could have just gotten on eBay for less and within a week.
Retro game hunting in Japan is one of my favorite hobbies. That's awesome you made it out here. You've gotta check out Namba Osaka as well. It's incredible

8:52 This place (Surugaya) I bought a Green DSi fully working for 900 yen with no issues, just a bit dirty. Also was the only place I could find old flip phones, highly recommend.
I went on a big fleamarket when I was in japan and holy s**t, they didnt care about handhelds around that time atleast. got 2 psp and 3 ds lite for 1 dollar each. (6 years ago) dont know how the bargins would be now but i will try and get back there to do some hunting : ) Great video btw!

I'd avoid super potato, most retro stores in tourist areas make the prices way too high.
Stick to Book Off, Hard Off and smaller businesses.
