I watched the whole series in about two weeks and loved almost all of it. The writing is often so freaking brilliant I can't believe it's still good. And Danny Devito just gets better and better. Season 13 felt different for sure, but to me it still felt like a natural continuation for the series, almost like they'd earned the right to try new things in order to keep it fresh after 12 solid seasons. I really seriously liked season 13 a lot. It had couple weak episodes, but many seasons do. I especially liked the Mac's pride episode and I'm quite surprised so many people here don't like it, as I could never have imagined such a beautiful episode from Always Sunny, it left me kinda breathless, being the finale for the series so far. And for the record, I don't really care for that kind of dancing, but couldn't turn my eyes away and probably looked the same as Frank's reaction. To me the episode was perfect conclusion to the mac's over-played closet-joke. It actually lifted my already high opinion of the previous seasons, because it ties up few sub-plots so well while being true to the characters. The pride episode was clearly an important one for Rob McElhenney and he worked his ass off to pull off the dance routine. I think people should give at least this episode another chance and remember that the guy who is behind all of this great series wanted to make this important episode like it is, with extra effort. This is one of the only properly redeeming episodes for any members of the gang. They're horrible human beings, but this one time after 13 seasons two of them managed to make something truly beautiful happen and in the process understand one another. I think it probably helped the episode and season that I marathoned the whole series. If I had waited the S13 week by week my reaction to it would most likely be very different. I'd be disappointed I didn't get a classic Sunny episode after a long week's wait. Watching it all at once, the s13 felt like proper try at change and 'self-reflection' and not disappointing at all. I hope people discover the greatness of S13 in their reruns.
I absolutely adore IASIP but I was never able to explain why I love it so much to my wife (although we do have pretty simmilar taste in movies and TV shows). She is not a popculture geek as I am, she did not appreciate all the subtle references and hints and basically thought the show is just bunch of people yelling at each other. When the S13 finale came out I made my last effort and practically forced her to watch it - I literally asked her to watch it as a personal favor to me, which she did (bless her), although she really did not want to. When the episode ended she said: "I get it" with tears in her eyes. Just like Frank did.
`The thing about Mac's pride episode is, despite being able to appreciate how skilled and intricate the dance is, many people, myself included, just don't find watching a dance very entertaining, and the dance did take up a large portion of the episode.

The episode "The gang tries desperately to win an award", which is also their 100th episode, is about how they've never won an award. If a show makes it to 100 episodes, it's a big deal and is more than likely a good (award winning) show. Someone recently made a good point about his father, Luther, walking out during that scene. He didn't walk out because he's a maucho heterosexual, he left because he's a closeted homosexual and probably went to go cry somewhere alone because he didn't want to show his emotions around a crowd of other men. That final scene is legit.

Okay, then please give us an idea what one or two of the worst seasons are. I want to know what you think a bad season - by the standards of IASIP - is.
Eh personally season 1 didnt do much for me. Not because of no Danny Devito but because everyone feels slightly off and not as... themselves as theyd drastically shift to in season 2
If you look back at past seasons, even then not every episode was amazing. Only a few from each season stand out. This season, there was the me too movement which is one of my favorites ever. The bicycle one was awesome. The first one was good. The escape room was also awesome. The bathroom one was pretty good. The 2 part show was Ehh. The airplane one was Ehh. The finale was not funny but it was awesome.
I love it when people give the latest seasons the credit they deserve. The show has definitely changed and evolved and I get that it might not please everyone, but what it might sometimes lack in raunchiness and moments that make you scream with laughter it makes up tenfold in creativity.

Is that the one where they get stuck in a freezer? That's one of the first episodes of that series I saw. I remember wanting to see the episodes where the "clips" happened.
The best version of repetition making things better was an Exit 57 sketch called "Down in the Basement" starring Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, and Amy Sedaris.
I'm a simple man, I see Deleuze, I click like. Even so, this was actually a really interesting video. I actually think I enjoyed this connection of Deluzian repetition to the show than the actual show.
jesus now we have ads playing before the youtube videos as well as the youtube videos themselves stopping so the person can "introduce their sponsors" so more ads? it's too much.
Among fan circles, you'll hear a lot of people say that this was either the best or worst season of the series. Some feel like this season relied on too many callbacks, some feel like Rob McHelleney, Charlie Day, and Glenn Howerton should've written more episodes, some didn't like how the show sort-of paid heed to political correctness more than usual (a few more female writers and directors than usual, one of which, Megan Ganz, was the victim of Dan Harmon's extremely misguided romantic conquest while writing for Community; an episode devoted to calling the gang out for their past sexual harrassment, censoring slurs that weren't previously censored, treating Mac's struggles with his sexuality seriously, etc.), and some just plain missed Dennis. I, however, think that a show that can evolve with the time it's being made in without too often feeling like it's pandering to any one particular political alignment is truly a mark of good TV, and as good a confirmation as any that Sunny has two more seasons in it.
There's something I love about the fact that if you were to remove the comedy elements, It's Always Sunny would be a horribly depressing drama about the worst parts of humanity and how this group destroys the lives of pretty much everyone they come into contact with. It just seems so genius to make that into one of the funniest comedies imo.
Sperium3000 That’s funny you said that cause the actual original promo line they used for the show in the first two seasons was, “It’s Seinfeld on crack!” It was a quote from some review of the show.
Scrubs had such a good ending too! The book of love eighth season end was soooo good. They just couldn't help themselves and let it end on a high, they just had to bastardize it with that horrid ninth season.
I've rewatched Scrubs 4 times and skip the ninth season EVERY TIME. The series had a such a great run and then they butchered it with a reboot nobody asked for.
13th season wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either. i still think it was very enterteining, like every season of the show is. that's why we love it so much in the first place. the mac dance was incredible.
7:00 i dont agree. that repetition in himym was much more of a deleuzian repetition than any other example given. while it appears the same it works very differently, in a way repetition of this scene from the very first episode does not simply undermine (as many fans thought) the series but gives it all a completely new meaning. it reframes it from being a sort of millennial dream of being old and successful and looking back at their wild and fun youth that in an end worked out to this view of "its never too late live and love" while at the same it explains the running gag of why the story started where it started and why he was talking about all this other stuff all the time. i think if you just watch first 3 (maybe 4) seasons and just add last 2 epidsodes it is an amazing series (but everything from season 5 to finale sucks ballzzzz).
Not that I didn't have it coming by not catching up with HIMYM. But thanks for not mentioning the spoiler warning would apply to other shows as well. lol

My favorite "clip" show episode of all-time is from CLERKS: THE ANIMATED SERIES - where the second episode of the series is a clip show. Brilliant!
Is that the one where they get stuck in a freezer? That's one of the first episodes of that series I saw. I remember wanting to see the episodes where the "clips" happened.
season 13 was different, not as good, but something that needed to be done.
Okay, I'm lost on that episode with the dancing. I'm all for being able to express yourself but I didn't get it.
it's cause it wasn't funny or good. There is nothing to get. It just sucked
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia has become my trainspotting❤️
I literally cry every time I see the season 14 finale
“How to not suck” makes more sense, right? “How not to suck” implies they are sucking... but not well?
The best version of repetition making things better was an Exit 57 sketch called "Down in the Basement" starring Stephen Colbert, Paul Dinello, and Amy Sedaris.
I'm a simple man, I see Deleuze, I click like. Even so, this was actually a really interesting video. I actually think I enjoyed this connection of Deluzian repetition to the show than the actual show.
The, “ omg I get it.” Was so emotional and touching, I am shocked it was from sunny
jesus now we have ads playing before the youtube videos as well as the youtube videos themselves stopping so the person can "introduce their sponsors" so more ads? it's too much.
Do a Philosophy of Steins;Gate.
I've been avoiding this show for 13 seasons but I think the time to stop doing that has now come
Prepare to laugh harder than you've ever laughed and love characters that you would despise in real life.
Thank you for posting this!!! I've been geeking out about this for some time now.
OP
I love that they used eternal sunshine of a spotless mind for reference. They should a whole video that movie.
Philosophy of Venture Bros!
i was not prepared to be this moved by this show.
I loved that you used the word 'dive bar'
12:04 Glad to see they're aware that it's basically Seinfield but crazier.
Sperium3000 That’s funny you said that cause the actual original promo line they used for the show in the first two seasons was, “It’s Seinfeld on crack!” It was a quote from some review of the show.
There should be a podcast for Always Sunny
This show is so brilliant and hilarious. Thanks for the great video explaining how brilliant it is!
so happy you did another one on sunny!
I think my heart found a way to flow without beating
I look forward to seeing your explanation as to why the last season of game of thrones was amazing...
Back when Wisecrack was a channel I watched regularly and enjoyed.
I never thought I would come across a video of my favorite and viewed through the lens of my favorite philosopher I'm so glad I did tho
Wisecrack is the best thing to happen to philosophy majors. It's also the only thing.
13th season wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst either. i still think it was very enterteining, like every season of the show is. that's why we love it so much in the first place. the mac dance was incredible.
How in the hell do u guys pull off such sophisticated research
I finally got to watch this after the 13th season came to Hulu! Lol
I wish you guys would do a vid style like this for one for the RUclipsd ‘no bullshit’ essentially roasting him for his takes on South Park
I hadn't seen this new season yet, but just from these clips i'm fucking dying laughing. This is one of the greatest shows of all time
Thou has no idea how much I'm trying to resist not binging this show!
I want that painting from the back!! I can't look at anything else, that painting is so weird!
Philadelphia's weather is always sunny and clear...everyday is never the same, though.
No episodes on black mirror, American gods or game of thrones? So much potential
Those last three episodes though. So goddamned great.
Well, the past few seasons do suck. So . . . you were saying?
Not that I didn't have it coming by not catching up with HIMYM. But thanks for not mentioning the spoiler warning would apply to other shows as well. lol
Damn near had a stroke. I only heard audio for the first few seconds and I thought you were Michael from VSauce.
I think season 13 was pretty rough, but 14 had some decent episodes
I have been saying "Everybody shits" for years. Now people are gunna think I am referancing Sunny. Lol.
