Hey I have a NISSAN FRONTIER 4X4 4 cylinder and it is showing a throttle response sensor I put in a very cheap sensor from Amazon and it is showing the same code please help me?
THANKS! I have been searching for months to fix my high idle on my Pathfinder. I finally found your video. Not even the Factory service manual explains this procedure.
I already watched this once when replacing the TPS on my 95 Nissan maxima the first time. But I'm replacing it again. I thought the transmission was going out, it was slipping so bad. Some one told me to test the TPS because the idle was surging up and it was bad, replaced it and no more transmission problems. Thanks again as always for the videos!!
@CarsNToys Sir, I just watched your videos 6 years after you’ve posted it, do I still a chance to respond to my 2015 Nissan Xterra throttle body I don’t know how to test it
Awesome video; I just changed the TPS in my 2003 Infiniti QX4 and notice I did it wrong by placing the TPS metal tab in the opposite side of the throttle. Thanks for this video.
Hey buddy I just wanted to say I really appreciate the time you took to show these methods and skills. I've been stuck for a minute with this tps sensor. What model car are you working on here?
Thank you. I have a Nissan Xterra 2006 - the check engine reader at O'Reilly's said we need a Throttle body positioning sensor. Grateful to find your video.
very, very educative and on point. My 2001 Infiniti I30 idles up and down when heated up. this been going on for a while. I've changed MAFS, Throttle body more than once. However, they're used but the problem continues. sometimes it stalls, you push the gas, the car don't move and you can see the meter go up but not moving. I'm fixing to change the position sensor like you did. but it's had to get around it for lack of space. Can you help. thanks.
Thanks, It did help me a lot. I removed mine, and when a placed it back it gave me problems, but now I know why, I never imagine I had to adjust the throttle.
Hey I just wanted to let you know that you're really good at explaining that sensor I have a question for you and I also want to thank you for all the videos that you have made I have a Nissan Frontier are you located in California
Thank you. This was really helpful. I have an 88 Buick Lesabre and how to position it was what I needed find out. You were straight to the point and fast to explain it and I know that is what most people love about you. Again thank you.
This was the most helpful video and in under ten minutes. Wish I would of found this one sooner. I hope the tps sensor is my problem for my low idle. This will be my third attempt. I've cleaned throttle body and iac valve so for my poor idle the culprit must be the tps. Thanks
Very well done and clearly expained. None of that rambling that lots of guys do. Now I will know how to fix my granddaughters ips if it needs it. Thanks for the vid.
Thanks. Watched a lot of these videos and yours has been so helpful Have an 02 Nissan Xterra supercharged 3.3 4wd. Any videos on idle air control, ignition switch, how to track down a short and cat converters. Or how to bypass supercharger all together. Thanks again and GODSPEED
Thank you for the detailed video, really helpful. I am looking to replace TPS on my 99’ Pathfinder 3.3L, could you let me know what the voltage adjustment ranges are?
First, I want to let you know that your Videos are very clear easy to follow. Now I changed the TPS in my 2003 Infiniti QX4 before seeing your video and mistakenly placed the TAB on the opposite side of the throttle pin. During testing, the engine was revving up and down and then stop working. Found out ECU was fried. Purchased one on eBay and after installing the ECU and the IACV engine did not start. Pull out codes P1610 and P1611 which I guess would be normal. Had my original ECU repaired and reinstalled but the engine won't start. At this point, I need to find one last option to get the engine up and running or tow the car to a mechanic for repairs. Greatly would appreciate any input.
great vid. I do have a question. We have a 2003 Nissan Frontier where we replaced the TPS, but now it wants shift funny between first and second. Revs up before shipping from 1 to 2. Like 3000 rpm then shifts. I read a lot where it says the TPS needs to relearn the transmission, but every relearning pattern I've tried doesn't work. It still shifts funning from 1 to 2. Then I got a code for TPS low voltage. Does this mean that it's just not adjusted right? anyways I'll take any help you can offer. 2003 frontier 3.3 auto trans. thanks again

Hi and thanks for the video; is the voltage range for the GPS sensor the same for all cars? I have a 2002 jaguar x-type 2.5 that I need to replace the TPS sensor on. Thank you
How do we adjust the TPS on a 2001 BMW E46 M3 please. Wondered if you had wire brushed your screws and soaked with WD, they might have come out easier. Also noticed you had socket shape tops to them and was thinking perhaps using socket would help ?? Just a thought !! Thanks for Video
Note before you remove old TPS, take a sharp object and mark plastic part of sensor and housing it sets in-use these marks when replacing new TPS---just like timing marks used on older cars.....
No, thank you for your help.... Hey, just to ask you.. I tried getting a TPS from the store (Canadian Tire) for my 2004 Pontiac Montana but the part didn't fit.. and they told me that was indeed the part for the model... any suggestions...Thanks again for all your help.

Thanks for the video, after servicing my Throttle head of my Nissan Sentra 2014 I've been experiencing a limp in acceleration the rpm goes up and down does it mean if I adjust the sensor it'll be fine?
Im having trouble with my throttle i believe its the tps bc my idle is horrible. This helps i dont know if it would be this tho bc it does almost die on me while driving it. Like sputters. I love my nissan tho thanks for sharing
Thanks for the great videos. I have a 96 maxima with 156 000. Everything is in great condition except the car will not move in reverse gear when the engine is hot and it reverses slowly when the engine is cold. Would you have the transmission redone on it ? Cost is about $1500 . Also having a hard time finding a rebuilt transmission for it ; would you know some good sources to call that might have it ? Thanks.
Hi thanks for this great video really helped me a lot but i would like to get a precise adjustment using a multi meter i drive a Nissan Sentra 140i twin cam 16 valve if you could possibly guide me to the correct wire to use on my plug that would be really great thanks.
Best video I have seen yet! I have a 2005 Hyundai Tiburon. It was "bucking" and hesitating. Also idling all over. I changed the TPS by myself but didn't know it had to be set to a specific spot and/or to reset the idle position memory. The car continued to have same symptoms. I decided to clean the IAC valve thinking maybe that was it. It ran pretty well for a day or two but it's back to the same old same old. It has to be that I put the TPS on wrong and I didn't reset the idle position memory! Do you have any tips on how to do that with an 05 Tiburon? Thanks!
Hi, thank You For This Wonderful Video.. My Question Is After Setting The TPS At A .4volts (say That Is My car Make Position) , Must I Open The Throttle To Full Position And When Done, How Many Volts Should I Expect To See From The Volt Meter ..?? Regards
8:23. Reset TPS procedure Does this also work for a 2001 maxima? I am having strange idle issues. I have tightened the throttle cable bolts which got lose. It idles at 700-800rpm fine but my son says sometimes it randomly revs up and down when in park after 3-4 mins. Like when you are waiting for a curbside order pickup. I do see the TPS change on my live data when pausing the gas. Can you disconnect the TPS brown connector while it’s running to see if the idle smiths out? If it’s happening I haven’t been able to reproduce it. Could this also be IAC? No codes present with my scanner other than p0744 (transmission TCC) Throttle body was recently removed to replace rear valve cover gasket. And cleaned with carb cleaner as shop blue towels.
Thanks for a good coverage on this topic. I just replaced the tps on my 2001 xterra 3.3 and the idle is perfect but it keeps dropping out of overdrive when driving and surging from 2500 to 4000rpm. Is that an issue that is fixed by the memory reset you are talking about? and is turning the ignition off and on 20 times method works on my model?
I did a scan this morning and I see two fault codes: P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit and P1705 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A/T. Not sure why I am getting that when I just replaced the TPS and the idle is around 750rpm after getting warmed up.
Did you delete the code after replacing the sensor? If not, assuming the sensor is repaired, the ecm will continually monitor the sensor and eventually turn off the check engine light.
What's are thr RPMs at idle? You should be between 700-800rpms (with the AC off). That being said, your vehicle does have an idle position memory. Fortunately it's the same procedure I describe in the video. (8:20) If you continue to have trouble you're best bet is going through each trouble code with a repair manual. I don't have one for your specific vehicle but I may be able to obtain one through a vender. Feel free to message us via Facebook. Cheers.
Thank you for the video. My car (Nissan Altima 2013) works fine in reverse, but does not get past 2 rpm on drive mode. What do I possibly do to fix the problem?
Yes, I did. I cleaned the TPS,wires connectors, that plug into the TPS,somehow , the symptom went away. The prongs were so dirty and rusty. Try that on yours
Good morning what is the information for what wire on connector and idle speed for 2003 Infiniti i35? Hope you are still answering and providing information. Thank you and great video I subscribed 👍
Does the key flick memory reset work on an 06 frontier? I'm going to replace mine, to see if if fixes the random turning off of the truck, and going to replace the cam position sensor as well.

Does the metal part in the tps that moves the throttle goes over the metal hinge or under? Idk if I explain myself but the tps lifts the hings or stops it from going too much?
19 year old part, this make and year was /is very reliable. My problem is at live data the tp to as high as 16% with the pedal almost all the way down. Can I adjust or clean the sensor to help with that or do I just need to replace it?
Thanks. I just subscribed. Simple explanation. Jack, my 94 Z28 is loping when the car is warm, but no check engine light. So figured I would take it to the mechanic when the rough idle starts. Right? He doesn't do it at the shop. Frustrating and thinking about renaming him Christine. God bless.
I replaced my TPS on my 2001 Xterra. Thought that I had found the "sweet spot" you referred to. Now, when I drive it, the rpms will jump and fluctuate rapidly when accelerating. Hi and thanks for the video; is the voltage range for the GPS sensor the same for all cars? I have a 2002 jaguar x-type 2.5 that I need to replace the TPS sensor on. Thank you
Very informative and precise. Could you do engine timing video
How do we adjust the TPS on a 2001 BMW E46 M3 please.
Wondered if you had wire brushed your screws and soaked with WD, they might
have come out easier. Also noticed you had socket shape tops to them and was thinking
perhaps using socket would help ?? Just a thought !! Thanks for Video
Omggg you’re the best. It kept going so high. After watching this I adjusted it and now I’m cruising 😎 thanks bro💪🏽
Good stuff man. Glad to help.
Note before you remove old TPS, take a sharp object and mark plastic part of sensor and housing it sets in-use these marks when replacing new TPS---just like timing marks used on older cars.....
That's a great tip!
i think your advice on doing the ignition reset method worked. i will check again in the morning with a cold start
Not starting the car right or do you have to start car I'm sorry for the question
No, thank you for your help.... Hey, just to ask you.. I tried getting a TPS from the store (Canadian Tire) for my 2004 Pontiac Montana but the part didn't fit.. and they told me that was indeed the part for the model... any suggestions...Thanks again for all your help.
Great stuff C.N.T. I'm working on a 2001 Infiniti I30 3.0 Liter. What would be the Base Idle Speed, Which Leed do I insert the paper clip, and how many volts am I looking for? Thank you in advance Don in Boca Raton, Fl.
Hey just wondering if the turning the key 20 times trick works for all Nissan’s, I’m in a 2002 Nissan Frontier 3.3L
Where did you hear this? I also own a 2002 Frontier 3.3L
What is the base idle speed/RPM on a 1995 Nissan Pickup with a 2.4 L4 engine and how do you reset the RPM memory on this engine?
John Peacock did you ever get a response from him?
Did you?
Did you get a response
Great video bro! Was wondering if you know where I can find my MAP sensor on 2001 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.8L? Location please and thanks in advance. When I press on the gas paddle while driving it it does not respond
Regards
8:23. Reset TPS procedure
Does this also work for a 2001 maxima?
I am having strange idle issues. I have tightened the throttle cable bolts which got lose. It idles at 700-800rpm fine but my son says sometimes it randomly revs up and down when in park after 3-4 mins. Like when you are waiting for a curbside order pickup.
I do see the TPS change on my live data when pausing the gas.
Can you disconnect the TPS brown connector while it’s running to see if the idle smiths out? If it’s happening
I haven’t been able to reproduce it.
Could this also be IAC?
No codes present with my scanner other than p0744 (transmission TCC)
Throttle body was recently removed to replace rear valve cover gasket.
And cleaned with carb cleaner as shop blue towels.
Hay man I’m writing this to see is your still checking these to give me some much needed info
Any other trouble codes?
I did a scan this morning and I see two fault codes: P0120 Throttle/Pedal Position Sensor/Switch A Circuit and P1705 Throttle Position Sensor/Switch A/T. Not sure why I am getting that when I just replaced the TPS and the idle is around 750rpm after getting warmed up.
Did you delete the code after replacing the sensor? If not, assuming the sensor is repaired, the ecm will continually monitor the sensor and eventually turn off the check engine light.
Yes. several time, but these two codes keeps coming back after driving around for 10 min or so.
Try that on yours
gotta luv the engineers that got electronic to work for 19 years!
Good morning what is the information for what wire on connector and idle speed for 2003 Infiniti i35? Hope you are still answering and providing information. Thank you and great video I subscribed 👍
Thank you for your very nice and helpful video
Does the key flick memory reset work on an 06 frontier? I'm going to replace mine, to see if if fixes the random turning off of the truck, and going to replace the cam position sensor as well.
Thanks man. Helped me fix no engine code rough idle on Nissan. Altima 2001 same tps
Hope your still active in here looking for the specifics for 2001 Nissan Sentra
I hope I can finds answer to this! My RPM in highway go down sometime at speed of 70mph to 600 rpm which’s suppose to be normal at 2500rpm and only happened in mornings
Thank for the video. I just install a new tps on my 2001 infiniti i30. Iddleing is at 2000 rpm what is the idle speed for my car. Thank you
Is it basically the same throttle position sensor on a 99 Mercury villager with the 3.3 l
The only reason I am concerned because the code of throttle position sensor pops up thank you for your video very good
Great details but I would really like to know how to put the spring back on the throttle which is next to the throttle body
hi....I'm Raul and I need your help with my 2003 ford expedition xlt sport edition 2wd 4.6 L,.....I just clean clean very good the throttle body and put new IAC valve with new Gaskets on both, but my car has fluctuations after 40 seconds of start.....can u help me with it?.....whats its the right info that I need to adjust my TPS in case I replace it....tnks.....I like all your videos, they are very helpful!!!!
Need to adjust throttle position sensor on a 2001Infinity I-30, so which wire to a touch for multi-meter reading? THANK YOU
I have a 1997 Nissan pick up I'm having problems with the throttle pale sensor I've replaced and can't keep it idling right ! what do you think I've done wrong also do you think I've got to reset and how do I do it? thanks great video . .
Great video excellent on giving the information and examples and details
Your educational presentation is very precise. I have a 2000 Infiniti i30. I would appreciate if you could send me throttle position specifics for this car. Thank you
Does the metal part in the tps that moves the throttle goes over the metal hinge or under? Idk if I explain myself but the tps lifts the hings or stops it from going too much?
I have a Nissan Xterra and was wondering if you could give me the base idle for it.. as we was the DC that it's supposed to be please!! Thank you!!
From what I can tell, it happens in 2nd gear (though i could be wrong).
It did not happen before swapping the TPS.
Do you have any advice?
It is a 2001 nissan xterra se v6
