Thanks Andy. Faced with a horrendous bill to fix my TPS and quoted insane prices to replace the throttle body/injectors at £1600. Now you’ve given me invaluable know how to get my CBF1000 running. 👍

Thank you. I've just ordered a new TPS for my zx12 and had no idea how to calibrated the sensor. My question now is idle speed ? The idle speed was irratic which led me too the sensor. Idle = closed throttle? I adjusted the idle speed when searching for the problem 🤔

What an awesome find, This tutorial . It relates exactly to the bike I have the CFMOTO 650TK. Thank you Andy Mechanic I will be following your next few videos.
Hi Andy I've installed a rapid bike evo and when the new tps wire is connected (wire to wire), the bike randomly cuts off when riding I guess its because of stock wire to tps isn't connected. Any way round this bud?
I need to adjust the TPS on my 2007 Bonneville carbs. Should I leave the idle screw set where the bike is running and idling good, or should I unscrew the idle adjustment knob before setting the TPS?
Sir, i have a yamaha xj6. bike has brandnew spark plugs and airfilter but my bike rpm cant stay stabil around 3-7k rpms. It fixes after 7 rpm. I got my bike checked to repairman and he told me %99 tps sensor. What do you think sir ?
Depending on the system on the bike, the idle is usually controller by the idler speed control valve, actuated by the ECU. This is an air bypass & has no effect on the butterfly spindle position so no, you don't have to adjust idle speed, in fact, often, you can't! Hope this is of help Cheers Andy
Hey mate, the video is great. I have done exactly what the video says, but for some reason I can’t get past 2.88 when opening my throttle. I did have my tps as far as I can clock wise and the highest number u get is around 5. When u make any adjustment to the tps the full throttle opening number won’t go past 2.88. Could you please give me some guidance to what could be the problem ? Thanks
Sweet will check the feed, I did replace my tps, I am also getting a code which I believe it’s telling me - error tps low .. would you know if this could be causing by my throttle body or my throttle cables not being tuned/adjusted properly? I’m working on a Cfmoto 2015 650nk.
Unlikely to be cable adjustment. The CF Moto TPS units break easily if they receive a shock or high vibration. Have had to replace on previously that broke when crate was dropped (new bike). Cheers Andy
I did the Throttle position input voltage inspection and it went as high as 4.74v which is below the minimum range of 4.75 to 5.25 I also did the wiring connection from the ecu for continuity and I had 0.00 at 2000k for ohm. Based on that info would you be able to point me to what else I can check or if you can tell what the problem is? Thanks heaps for the assistance… :-)
Thanks for the video! How Should I do this for a Yamaha Fazer 600 2001? Could i do the same with the neadles? And where van i find the specs for my bike?
I have Yamaha R6 2004, 12k on it! And I have opened/cleaned the throttle body and my mechanic played with the TPS because my idle was high! Although the idle is perfect now but I feel my bike performance is not like before. Like the sound or you can say it is lean. Any recommendations you can give to fix that perfectly?
Yes, moving the TPS position was not the solution in any way whatsoever - it needs to be returned to its original position - usually there is a small white paint mark from the factory - realign it to this. The idle issue - it's a carb bike so simple carb adjustment. Best not to ride the bike as it is as the mixture will be way off.....lean, like you suspected. Cheers Andy
@@AndyMechanic Thank you so much for your guidance. More over I will appreciate if you can tell me how to fix the issue completely! I also try to see how I can bring the TPS back to the factory mark. But is there a way that I can do it professionally by the multimeter or any other tool to get the exact reading! Also want to know how to adjust the carbs? Is it by the air sync gauges? Or any other way. Please guide! Thank you!
My AT motorcycle feel very heaver and the power is not maximal. Is it because of the TPS (Throttle position sensor) ? Because I been in and out of Yamaha but never fix the problem. Feel like the mix in combustion chamber isn't right between gas amd air. My air filter are new and I did clean my injector last month
Hi Mike, sorry I don't know the specifics on that model. However, most TPS units operate the same way. Best to source the Service Manual if not sure. Cheers Andy
You'll have to set the TPS using the resistance values most likely. To obtain these you'll need to reference the Service Manual for the particular Make, Model & Year. Cheers Andy
No. 12v DC will be needed as max voltage will be 4.5v at full throttle. Assuming Polaris use a standard TPS which should be 3 wire one been an ECU given ground, one signal wire (return to ECU) & an ECU supplied 5v+
@@AndyMechanic hi would u know what the readings are on a 2011 500 polaris ranger at idle, the guy was fooling around with tps and the idle screw thats not to be touched
the problem is that I had ordered 2 different brands of sensor, one gave 0.810V and the other new sensor gives 0.740V at idle. But if I install the original Oem it gives 0.960v. Should this be an issue?
Thank you very much for the reply sir! i just bought a new Hitachi oem sensor, the value is now exact 1,0V at idle. And the car runs extremelly well ! the acceleration is now amazing. Thanks for the advice!
Better to work out why it's running lean than try patch it up. Check fuel pump pressure - if it's down then that will cause it. Remember these dirt bike engines run in open loop all the time so no self correction is possible. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
Im getting a lean code and very poor running motorcycle. I put a new TPS on but it actually exacerbated the issue. I have no air leaks I just figure out what the heck is wrong.
Hmmm....Okay. well you can unplug the TPS and test on the bike. However they are usually a 3 wire type on bikes, one is an ECU given ground, another the 5v+ reference from the ECU & the 3rd wire is the signal wire back to the ECU. You'll need to know which is which. Provide the TPS with 5v - adjustable power supply set to 5v DC. Put + on 5v reference, negative to ground. Then attach your multimeter - positive to the signal wire & negative probe to the negative of the power supply or at the TPS on ECU given ground. With the engine OFF & throttle in closed position you should get around 0.5v. As you roll open the throttle very slowly the voltage should slowly climb, to a max of around 4.5v. If at any time the voltage drops momentarily during opening the throttle then it's a fail & TPS must be replaced. Hope this helps Andy
so I recently changed the MAF and iacv on my Lexus RX300 and it's giving me P0505 code, used a computer program and found it when I floor it with the engine off TPS only thinks I'm at 75% Max throttle. I did not touch the alignment of the TPS when I remove the iacv, So how do I re teach the car what 100% throttle is?
Hi Andy, how can I calibrate a TPS on a ford falcon xr6 2003? I followed a method of disconnecting the negative battery terminal and shorting it to the positive to discharge the capacitors. Then reconnect battery, switch on accessories and wait a little bit and run on idle for 15 to 20 min. Test drive afterwards. It seems that the car drives better but not quite there yet especially when ac is on. Any advice? Cheers, Maz
I have a Mitsubishi FTO GPX Mivec triptronic and replaced my TPS without calibration and it's gearing like crap, over revving and triptronic box is having issues. Before this I had no drama's! Any idea what it should read power wise on multimeter buddy ?
No. More likely the fuel pressure is dropping when the engine is turned off. There is a valve in the fuel pump which closes to maintain line pressure. If this leaks then fuel pressure drops & it takes time for the fuel pump to bring it back up - usually causes long crank times but engine does start.
0.5v is about what you'd usually see at throttle fully close. However, should be more like 4.5v at throttle fully open (most vehicles), though yours may be a different spec - best to reference the Service Manual. Hope this is of help. Cheers Andy
Andy : I am a DIY and only work on my own cars . I noticed when you back probed the connector , your probes were real close . If the ground touches the signal return , will it damage the ECM ? If that is the case , would it be better to use another ground away from that signal wire ?
Hello Andy, are those values of voltage output from the tps on idle and full throttle position same for all motorcycles? I have a Kawasaki ninja 250 FI, I was planning to caliberate it but have got no clue what the voltage values are. Will these values work?
Hmmm.....the voltages do vary slightly between manufacturer. However, usually around 0.5v at idle and 4.5v at full throttle is what we would expect to see when testing. However, for calibration you really need to know the specs specific to your bike. Maybe your local dealer may help or you could download a service manual? Hello Mr. Andy! I have a Honda sh 300i and I think I'm the most unlucky owner! Since I bought Moto he just stands and was walking for all possible mechanics in my city ... That's how Mr Electronist told me. After that went well for a little while. He started well. Then how was very dirty I went to washing. After starting '' fun '' how he was doing before ... - Stopping the engine when slowing. - fluctuations in reversal. - And difficult start. The Valve game was also checked. Even distribution. Loud tired this situation .. Two a half years. I do not know what to do ... please! If you can help me somehow. All the best! - From Romania I write to you.
what if the voltage is change when the engine is start example if my voltage in of engine is .73 in close position and when engine start the voltage is up in .86-87 is that normal or i need to change my tps
Hi, no, that's not normal if the bike has an idle speed control valve. If however it uses a steper motor to control the butterfly (fly by wire) then that is normal. You should test the 5v reference at ignition on/engine not running & with engine running. It should always be at 5v
Thank you for this great information. I was having some trouble calibrating the tps sensor on my ninja 650r. Bur i didn't knew the voltage values. Could you help me out with a little doubt? There is another like tps sensor on my bike...a little downstairs from the tps sensor...and a dont know why my bike has 2 tps sensors
Definitely not. This is the correct procedure when replacing a TPS - though some Manufacturers have their own methods so always best to check the Service Manual. Cheers Andy
+melchor napoles yes, Firstly Welcome to my RUclips channel. As a rule of thumb most TPS units do work the same way. However you are best to obtain the specs for your bike by downloading a PDF workshop manual. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
Hi, I'm sorry I have no idea. You'll have to call Honda - their Service department should tell you. They will need the VIN number of your bike. Don't call a dealer - ring the HQ Cheers Andy
Hi, well most cars have an adjustable TPS so it'll need to be calibrated if you have removed or replaced it. Some newer cars have non adjustable TPS and in that case the ECU usually just self calibrates. Hope that helps. Cheers Andy
Hi, it is one component, that if faulty, could affect idle. However, I'd check the operation of your idle speed control valve first. Also are there any fault codes? Cheers Andy
Hmmm.....it sounds to me more likely to be fuel pressure. I'd test the fuel pump output pressure - you'll need a fuel pressure gauge and fittings to fit your bike to test this. Hope this helps Andy
Great video Andy! Now I have finally confirmed a small portion of my knowledge regarding TPS. Like I'm certain now what the slot is for, that it's for angular adjustments. I also have a YAMAHA XTZ 125 with a TPS on it's carburetor that I think is having a problem. At mid to full throttle positions, I'm getting some sort of a weird engine sound which I presume to be a "Knock"? I'm hoping you could give me some of your expert advise based on how I'm describing my engine problem. :) It's "sounds like someone poured gravel on to a metal pan" when I'm at mid-full throttle or during heavy engine load. Maybe you have a guide you can share and show me the designation of each 3 wires like which is ground. signal or voltage input and what are the ranges of voltage/ohms I should be at, exactly what you did on this video. I hope you have the time to read this and don't mind helping a fellow home mechanic out. Suscribed!

thank you for this learning video , i have same problem on burgman 400 the out put on ideal 5 v i tried 2 hours to set as manual instructions and failed , the sensor was read the voltage between 4 and 5 volt , is this sensor not working and must change or am i cant set ?
+ahmed khalil the TPS usually had 3 wires. The first is ground (battery - ), a 5v DC supply from the ECU & thr last is the signal wire. Usually with the throttle closed the output on the signal wire is around 0.5v then will climb steadily up to around 4.5v DC at throttle fully open. These are generic values and I suggest you find the specs for your bike to be accurate. Hope this helps. Regards Andy

No. More likely the fuel pressure is dropping when the engine is turned off. There is a valve in the fuel pump which closes to maintain line pressure. If this leaks then fuel pressure drops & it takes time for the fuel pump to bring it back up - usually causes long crank times but engine does start.

Great video, do you know the specs on a Yamaha YXZ 1000R?
How do I find the values for my xtz1200 tps?
Send me an email with the VIN & I'll let you know :-)
what if the voltage is change when the engine is start example if my voltage in of engine is .73 in close position and when engine start the voltage is up in .86-87 is that normal or i need to change my tps
Hi, no, that's not normal if the bike has an idle speed control valve. If however it uses a steper motor to control the butterfly (fly by wire) then that is normal.
You should test the 5v reference at ignition on/engine not running & with engine running. It should always be at 5v
@@AndyMechanic oh its mean my tps is need to replace thanks sir andy
I don't understand why kawasaki tells that you have to replace the entire throttle body when the procedure is so simple...
hi andy how about turning the tps in my mio i scooter tne value is 0.09 in open in close 5.40 is that good pr bad
you think that is ok for my kymco 50cc 4t ???
Thank you for this great information. I was having some trouble calibrating the tps sensor on my ninja 650r. Bur i didn't knew the voltage values.
Could you help me out with a little doubt? There is another like tps sensor on my bike...a little downstairs from the tps sensor...and a dont know why my bike has 2 tps sensors
Gustavo Escoto I’m having the same issue with my bike was your tps making a bunch of noises and how did you end up fixing it
no need to remap ecu with this technique?
Definitely not. This is the correct procedure when replacing a TPS - though some Manufacturers have their own methods so always best to check the Service Manual.
Cheers Andy
Hello maybe have help to set a yz 250
2011 model 2 stroke
Good day is this applicable on all brand of motorcycle i have a problem on tps on my motorcycle helpul idea thanks a lot
+melchor napoles yes, Firstly Welcome to my RUclips channel. As a rule of thumb most TPS units do work the same way. However you are best to obtain the specs for your bike by downloading a PDF workshop manual. Hope this helps. Cheers Andy
thanks andy and more power
hi how r u plz can u tell me that what is tps setting for honda city idsi ?
Hi, I'm sorry I have no idea. You'll have to call Honda - their Service department should tell you. They will need the VIN number of your bike. Don't call a dealer - ring the HQ
Cheers Andy
You’re awesome
Cheers :-)
Is this applicable for any cars also?
Hi, well most cars have an adjustable TPS so it'll need to be calibrated if you have removed or replaced it. Some newer cars have non adjustable TPS and in that case the ECU usually just self calibrates. Hope that helps. Cheers Andy
Will this fix the idling on my trx 450r
Hi, it is one component, that if faulty, could affect idle. However, I'd check the operation of your idle speed control valve first. Also are there any fault codes?
Cheers Andy
@@AndyMechanic she will run no problem but as soon as i left off the throttle she quits on me
Hmmm.....it sounds to me more likely to be fuel pressure. I'd test the fuel pump output pressure - you'll need a fuel pressure gauge and fittings to fit your bike to test this.
Hope this helps
Andy

my throttle body idle high But when turn on the as it drop also drop in drive or at the stop light My car is a Toyota Carina 5A engine
Bang setelah ganti pake TPS otopart kok tetep ya kalau di gas spontan kaya keringgalan gas nya..telat respon. Knp ya?
What if I buy I used one that was on the same bike ?
Suscribed!
i need help ....whut this shit of TPS i dont find the spec for my scooter ....i ned to recalibrate them ...i ned my scooter to go work is realy frustated..i dont know were find the spec for repair them...is a kymco agility naked renouvo 50cc 4t euro 4 pls help me :d any idea .?
thank you for this learning video , i have same problem on burgman 400 the out put on ideal 5 v i tried 2 hours to set as manual instructions and failed , the sensor was read the voltage between 4 and 5 volt , is this sensor not working and must change or am i cant set ?
+ahmed khalil the TPS usually had 3 wires. The first is ground (battery - ), a 5v DC supply from the ECU & thr last is the signal wire. Usually with the throttle closed the output on the signal wire is around 0.5v then will climb steadily up to around 4.5v DC at throttle fully open. These are generic values and I suggest you find the specs for your bike to be accurate.
Hope this helps. Regards Andy
