A really cool thing was the “you can hide under the bed” and “press shift to run” pop-ups because you never actually need to go under the bed to hide from anything and running doesn’t change any outcome. It's just there to put you on edge cause now you think you need to.

Fun fact: a LOT of soviet apartments have the same room planning like in this game. Me with my friends were playing this in the same apartment, but mirrored cause it was on the opposite side of the floor
when he said i feel like im running in to someone i laughed cuz i knew the corpse was there.... also did you notice it was the missing kid red shorts and shoes
Mad props to the creator of this game; going through frame-by-frame of the creepy moments, you can actually catch glimpses of corpses and phantoms moving around the house, things that would only be a flicker in the gameplay but that really show the dedication that was put into every detail. Not to mention fun to (watch someone else) play!
The best part about this game is that everyone is freaked out about the big dude, but he's actually helping you. The big dude gives you clues, keys, the lighter, the album you are looking for, etc. Meanwhile the real evil is in the doll. The demonic doll is the one going around turning off the lights and the candles, closes its room with chains and cries when you are making progress. Shows how much we rely on appearances in our lives. I mean, the big dude's a cannibal and all, but nobody is perfect 😆
Fun fact: when the game saves at 19:07 it’s because a scripted event is happening! Down the hall through the bloody door, a MASSIVE arm comes out and crushed the lightbulb (which you can hear shatter a few seconds later). Jack missed this (understandably so, this game is great with its atmosphere and making the player panic) but it’s SUCH a good scare and really catapults you into realizing there is something incredibly tangible in the apartment with you, and it could easily crush you at any second.
the scare at 30:14 was genuinely one of the most terrifying jumpscares i've ever seen like i'm shocked jack didn't have a heart attack right then and there
This game is really more creepy than other games that I have ever played. Like Outlast or Deadspace 08 things jumped scared me. This is like 10/10 for creepy. Like when you think you have escaped, but the outside is red and frozen in time basically. It doesn't try to be gimmicky which sounds weird as there is a doll. As an indy game it is real top effort.
I somehow went "whooo" like a strangely calm owl in response to it when I usually jump a mile and try to fight the scares physically (don't question it I gave up on trying to do that lmao) 😭😭😭😭
I normally don't get scared when watching someone playing horror games, but this one had me so... unsettled. I genuinely felt unsafe despite watching this in a brightly lit room at ten in the morning... This also goes for the creators other game too. There is something about the way that they build the atmosphere and pull off the scares that is so perfect - it feels like nothing else I've seen. I hope the developers know how amazing this is and that they have something special here. In fact, I think I'm going to go get the games - even if I never play them because I'm a big baby - because they deserve the support for this amazing work.
And the fact that it actually looks like an abandoned apartment of some poor lonely russian grandpa gives me chills. My grandparents lived in exactly the same apartment (the exact room planning and some furniture). And even broken elevator. I remember it happened in my house one level down at night. Shit sounded so scary. Had to talk to the service through always closing doors to explain the situation and turn it off
12:10 This is a very well done jumpscare... The way they zoom in, and the way the doll's staring at you only for the short duration of the jumpscare, and on top of that, the fact the doll makes a noise right before the jumpscare immediately puts you into alert mode, therefore making the jumpscare even better. I love it.
Okay, everyone is talking about how good and scary the game is. But is no one gonna talk about the lore of the game and why all of the scare is happening etc. Well here's my short theory. I watched this game being played by Markipler for the first time, but when I watched it the second time being played by Sean, I noticed some small details that I haven't caught the first time. Before going to the apartment we see a missing poster, it says the missing person is a dude wearing a white shirt with red shorts and red shoes. And I realised that this missing dude is in the apartment (the one the player plucks his teeth out). Moving from the missing dude to the messages on the wall when the player enters the bloody door where it says things like "hear?" and "voice" and one of the messages says "I buried him in concrete". That's where I realised something when we saw bags of cement outside the apartment. My theory is, what if the grandfather had something to do with the missing dude, and that the grandfather had kidnapped him and killed him then hid his body in concrete in a room (the player says something like "this room stinks of a corpse") . Realising what the grandfather had done he went insane due to the "voice" he heard? And proceeded to commit suicide (I assumed this because behind the bloody door there was a chair and a rope hanging from the ceiling, suggesting that this rope could've been a noose). And now the grandfather's ghost is wandering around? This is just a theory and not entirely true or accurate, but I'm just saying I think happened in the apartment if anyone is interested in lore of the game. Let me know what you think or if you have anything to add.
I think the ghost that's trying to kill the player is not the grandfather, I think it's actually his victim (one of many?). The grandfather murdered the missing guy for some reason, the guy turned into a monster and then killed the grandfather or made him kill himself. Then in the game this monster/ghost is trying to kill the main character, while he's trying to survive following the hints that his grandfather left behind for him
Here's my theory: The Grandfather was being controlled by the Demon to kill many, many people. That 15 year old kid that went missing was just the most recent victim. This is evident as you could see the kid's corpse in the bathroom, another corpse in the wall, and another in the oven. Who knows how many more were killed. The group of people looking at the player during the jumpscare were probably all victims. After the Grandfather got too old to do the killing, or maybe the Demon got tired of him, it killed him through making the Grandfather commit suicide. Or maybe the Grandfather couldn't handle it anymore and committed suicide on his own. The fact that there was rope still hanging on the ceiling with a chair beneath it means that's where people found the Grandfather dead. When the player came into the apartment, the Demon had found it's new victim to play with. During the entire game the Demon could have easily killed the player, but no, it toyed with player the whole time allowing you to think you could escape. The reason you couldn't escape at the end was because your fate was already sealed the moment you first got trapped into the apartment. That was the moment you got teleported to another dimension. And I am pretty sure it's a Demon because I don't think any ghost of some grandfather would have the power to transport someone physically to some hellish world and trap them there. The writing on the walls was from the ghosts of the victims trying to help the player as they thought the player could still make it. The candles were likely not left by the grandfather to save you against the Demon because he would have also left something to light them with. The candles were likely just there because the Grandfather happened to have some.
I love Sean’s editors because they make their sound effects sound so atmospheric and accurate to the in-game sounds, even the joking ones like the long long man great work guys!
I am currently envisioning Winnie the Pooh twirling my small intestine around a fork and dipping it in honey while humming lullabies that would render an insomniac comatose.
I noticed an interesting thing. If you look at the face of the big guy, there are two different models for him. You can best see it in the face. One of them is much more decomposed and has big teeth (you can see him in the jumpscare where you turn around to see him right behind you - 30:15 ), the other one just has a big smile (that´s the one you chill with in the elevator - 40:54 ). The interesting part to me is, that the smiling guy actually helps you in the game. He gives you the lighter and then helps you get back into the apartment. In short, he isn´t activelly trying to kill you. But the more decomposed guy mostly just seems to want to murder you. And as Sean poited out, the smiling one doesn´t seem to be afraid of light. So my little Game theory is, that they are two different entities. Maybe they are fighting over who will rule the red hellscape dimension you are in. What I´d like to think is, that the reason there are two of them is, that the guy got posessed by something, and because of that, he became a murdering cannibal. And in the process, he lost most of his humanity, so that´s why he looks like a corpse. But the second guy is the original conciousness of the body, still alive and human (to some extent) and he is just trying to stop the murders, which the demon in his posessed body is doing. So he tries to help you defeat it. I know this is a bit of a stretch, and I fully realise that there are unlimited possibilities to why the creator decided to make the same guy with two faces. Maybe the only reason is that it just looked better in some shots, but I still think it´s an interesting detail. :) What do you guys think about this?
i noticed some of that two but had not thought that they might be two entities . I thought they where the same guy . your theory makes more sense good call
@@aloenuht.1740 Yeah, that's also a possibility. But in that case, what are the chances that the cannibal just so happened to murder a guy that's also extremely tall and also happens to have cuts all over the body. But it's possible that your theory actually was the game creator's intention, and he just used the same body model for the victim. Or maybe just all souls lost in this dimension are somehow distorted or twisted in some way, so that's why a victim would also look as a monster to the player.
The subtle background "Lonnnng Lonnng Maaaaaaannnn!" had me in stitches in the middle of a scary playthrough. I've seen a few other streamers play this game already, but there were so many additional details/scares that Sean picked up on. This was a fantastic watch. Thanks!
This game handled its jump scares so well. Where a lot of games rely on super loud noises to make the player jump, this one makes everything happening feel much more real by having the scary things appear with almost no noise at all. It really adds to the feeling of uncertainty as to what might happen next.

This was so impressive, "wrong floor" was kind of typical as far as an indie horror game, but THIS used so many creepy visuals, game mechanics, sounds, just incredibly well done. Jack's playthrough was entertaining also, but that kind of goes without saying.
This was truly the most tense I've felt watching anything in a while. I don't usually get so bad watching Jack's stuff, but this was almost painfully tense.
I’m so happy that the Let’s Players have found this project. I’ve sang it’s praises to everyone who would listen for like a year now. It has its shortcomings (the doll jumpscare, the sequence where you leave the apartment, etc), but no other game has ever made me feel so helpless before. The red herring of being able to hide under the bed, the fact that you can’t reliably shut any door, the randomized scares in the bedroom, the build up, everything is so good. It’s nice to notice little details every time I watch someone play it, like seeing the doll staring at you in the mirror when it’s looking forward in reality. Good stuff.
I really liked the doll jumpscare at the beginning, short lived but definitely anxiety inducing. Hit my head on the wall next to my bed. The game is taking things that lots of people hate, like tight spaces, having to constantly be in motion in that tight space, and basically just pitch black darkness, into such a cool gaming experience :))
@@lmaohi5098 I just think it could have been more creative, like, I don't know, showing a contorted figure for a split second then the lights go out and when they come back on there's the doll in its place. A red png zooming in does the trick, but it feels cheap especially because everything else is well done. Completely agree that the claustrophobia is very good, though. Love the realization everyone has that they're being watched and they can't do anything about it.
@@anassortmentofplaylists2058 I can definitely see that jumpscare happening, like seeing the figure/doll for the first time is an introduction to the madness that is yet to happen. All in all, I'm excited to see what other great games these devs have put out.
This game actually creeped me out! The scares in this game weren't always loud, it just creeped you out, and had a good buildup to it, which makes it really awesome, I think the only weak part of it is when you're in the flesh dimension or something it kind of takes you out of the immersion about a creepy apartment and just became that generic bloody and fleshy hellzone or whatever. But nonetheless, I got really creeped out by this game! And I'm only watching Jackscepticeye play it, can't imagine me playing it all by myself LMAO
jacks intuition is crazy, like when the light broke for that one room and we saw it for a split second, we could pause and see it was a dead body but Jack just kept on saying he felt like he was backing up into someone
just so you know jack! the rug on the wall thing is common in Russia a lot of houses are in a bad state and the citizens there will put rugs up lining the walls to try and insulate to keep the house warmer since its so cold
It's interesting to see how Jack finds rugs on the wall weird. Growing up in Eastern Europe, it was something quite normal, even if a bit old school, to have rugs on the wall. I never understood why it's done, but I know that it felt comforting to wake up seeing that first thing in the morning
It's because walls were thin and winter was very cold, rugs on the wall were placed for isolation of heat :) But also it is also kind of a tradition, showing off beautiful rugs, they can also be seen as art and it doesn't get dirty on the wall
In Turkey, especially in villages, we have rugs on the walls too. I didn't know that it was used for heat isolation lol i thought they do it cuz it looks good.

And those spam-flyers are actually put all over every apartment building, just like in the game. Like, I can literally go a couple floors down to the entrance of my building right now and see a very similar one.
YES YES YES!!!! FINALLY!!!! You are the first and only RUclipsr who actually noticed that there was someone sat in the living room only visible in the dark and before you turn the lights off. Since you got close the model looks to be the grandfather.
I think part of the reason this is so effective is that it isn't just a cinematic game with jump scares it does good good work to make you feel truly in danger of losing the game, it capitalizes on the fear of the unknown which I've noticed is of the most effective, and also,.most of the scares are happening somewhat in real time, rather than a cutscene where "something spooky happens"
I was in the middle of rewatching Mark's playthrough of this and dropped everything to watch Jack play it - after which I'll head back and finish watching Mark's, because apparently I need to be scared by this game at least three times in two days.
Totally agree that this game executed its scares really well, without relying on horror tropes like jump scares. Also, Seán’s humor, which he uses to assuage his own fear while playing, was even sharper than usual! I love that we got a callback to 🎵 _Long, Long Maaaaaaaan!_ 🎵 Also-also, I got heavy _HDWGH_ vibes near the start of the game when Seán mentioned Green Day’s _Wake Me Up When September Ends._ On Tour, he told us that was the first song he played on the drums.
This had me so tense, neck and shoulders were truly tight the whole video, and by the end I was hugging a pillow for comfort and protection. Man, I enjoy a good horror piece, but I need something like a let's play to buffer the scares or I'd give up watching. Thanks for doing these, Sean, so that we can appreciate them with you.
It's amazing to me just how innocent this game looks. It looks just like a cheap jump scare simulator, and it's so much more to the point it is actually bloody terrifying! What a well-made haunted house sim that is actually how you craft the genre. Also, this game does the impossible... make the room with the World's Scariest silly doll the point you run to for safety. Yes, that thing is cursed, but after awhile it's a point of safety
I genuinely don't know if jack is lucky or unlucky for experiencing almost all the jumpscares this game had to offer. If you actually watched some other youtuber's playthroughs, they miss out on a lot of jumpscares.
I always forget that these are supposed to be scary, I usually get distracted by jacks hilarious commentary and reactions that by the time its over I go to bed with an aching side and my need to lough filled!!
This is the first horror game in a looooooooong time that I've had to turn off part way through. I'm watching this in the middle of the day - and I just can't handle the tension!
I LOVE the longer gameplay videos Sean has been giving , it makes them feel like a movie and a series of episodes rather than multiple short videos. Incredible creator
I was absolutely terrified watching Mark's playthrough but even though this time I knew what's coming, it still scared me. This is really well done and scary, been a long time since I've seen a horror game being so scary
This game was freaking amazing. I would be terrified playing this game. Whoever made this game, plz do more like this. (The small things in this game are top tier. That fact it tells you press this to sprint, hide under here, but it’s not needed for the entire again, and no jump scares, that’s just makes you tense and paranoid for the whole game. Just the small details man, this developer is a genius)
When you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes back into you. I have played From the Darkness, and it's absolutely terrifying and sinister. I shivered when you had to go in the dark to try and light up the room again when there was a big horrifying monster lurking in the dark. From the Darkness is a great and spine-chilling horror game.
I really like the subtlety of the scares. No big bang or immediate flashes except for the baby, but even that one was a silent scare. The devs really let the spooky things linger. Makes the game so much more unsettling since you don’t know if there’s something you missed that was there the whole time and you just haven’t noticed it yet.
It got even super scarier for me, when I realized, that the flat is almost exactly built as the one I was living with my mom and grandparents 😳 even the tv in the living room furniture is orientated the same way lol 😳😳 ...even the fuckin mirror in the hallway (yes, im also from a post-communistic country)
As someone whose mother's side of the family is entirely Polish, the rug on the wall makes some kind of Slavic sense. I could see my grandma doing something similar.
@@KuueenKumi Fun fact: Apparently the reason it became a thing at all was because the walls of the apartment buildings were constructed so thin, that putting a rug on the wall was a form of insulation/noise cancellation. ✌️✌️
I used to watch Sean with my dad when I was about 9, I’m now 15 not much older but in that space of time my dad got cancer and ended up leaving and I just love coming back every so often and watching some vids, it reminds me of my dad
the scare where you're in the closet and he is really close in the corner, face illuminated by the light. got me in both Mark's video and yours. Best jump scare. A bit sad you missed the one with the hand and the light though because you went under the bed too soon. it made it feel so real in a way, that the monster wasn't just a shadow.
God this is one of the scariest, grossest horror games I’ve seen in a while. The jump scares were great! I didn’t really like the part outside the apartment, it kinda took me out of it. I really like horror games that stay in one place, that changes. It really gives your this feeling of “this place is haunted”, especially in a home, as home is supposed to be a safe space.
I love when you play horror games, you make it fun & ive always been trying to stop being a scaredy cat, it sort of makes me feel at home watching this
This is such a great game with brilliant scares. The atmosphere, the light play, the sounds -- all of it comes together in a terrifying experience. I'm reading a lot of Russian people in the comments saying the apartment layout is common, which adds another level of scare for people familiar with it. I hope the dev makes more games like this!
@YeaMan whats up, you’re everywhere. this is like the fifth time I’ve seen you on my comments in like a week. would seriously appreciate it if you would stop, thanks
I don't jump often at games, but when that doll showed up when the light turned on.. legit screamed. Sean, you never disappoint! These indie horror games are incredible!! 👏👏
There is something special about this game. I'm pretty immune to most horror game antics, but this one sets off some weird primal fear in me and makes me SO on edge just watching it.
this 100% got my heart racing. loved this one, probably one of my favorite thus far. props to them and props to sean for not being as scared as i was and progressed
This was the first video of Jack’s I’ve seen that genuinely startled me. @ 30:15 When he unlocked the cabinet in the closet, heard the baby, and turned around to that giant dude in his face. I legit screamed! 😂😂😂😂

The edited in “long long man” sound fading in and out was so well done that I thought it was part of the game for a moment before recognizing it.

I love it.

Also made you on edge every time you went near the doll again

Then in the game this monster/ghost is trying to kill the main character, while he's trying to survive following the hints that his grandfather left behind for him
Here's my theory:
The Grandfather was being controlled by the Demon to kill many, many people.
Long long man stays on my mind rent free lmao

@@calaclullaalaflulla3378 What the fuck
What do you guys think about this?
This is cool as shit
I thought the guy that helps you might be one of the victims
i noticed some of that two but had not thought that they might be two entities . I thought they where the same guy . your theory makes more sense good call
its so cool that you pointed these things out and theorized on them!! love it
@@aloenuht.1740 Yeah, that's also a possibility.
I need a compilation of Sean softly saying “Hey” to horrifying things. 44:22

This game handled its jump scares so well.

Good stuff.
^^^^^ I saw one person play it and fell in love with how incredibly scary this game is.

Same. 😂
i feel that too, when i saw the guts like door earlier in the game it kind of lost its immersion of a normal apartment with a creepy guy in a room

just so you know jack! the rug on the wall thing is common in Russia a lot of houses are in a bad state and the citizens there will put rugs up lining the walls to try and insulate to keep the house warmer since its so cold
It's interesting to see how Jack finds rugs on the wall weird. Growing up in Eastern Europe, it was something quite normal, even if a bit old school, to have rugs on the wall. I never understood why it's done, but I know that it felt comforting to wake up seeing that first thing in the morning
It's because walls were thin and winter was very cold, rugs on the wall were placed for isolation of heat :)
But also it is also kind of a tradition, showing off beautiful rugs, they can also be seen as art and it doesn't get dirty on the wall
Some hand made rugs can be very expensive so I suppose as decoration too.
@@SpicyPunkRockerOfficial that's amazing bestie, but we were kinda talking about rugs here

Ngl this game is one of the few Horror Games to hit the Scene that's just so genuinely terrifying without ever using excessive Jumpscares

It's amazing to me just how innocent this game looks. It looks just like a cheap jump scare simulator, and it's so much more to the point it is actually bloody terrifying! It got even super scarier for me, when I realized, that the flat is almost exactly built as the one I was living with my mom and grandparents 😳 even the tv in the living room furniture is orientated the same way lol 😳😳 ...even the fuckin mirror in the hallway
(yes, im also from a post-communistic country)
This is one of the scariest games you’ve played, I literally screamed out loud multiple times. Indie horror games rock
i'm so grateful this game is finally getting recognition. it's been out for awhile and im glad everyone is finally seeing it.
That's actually what a typical Russian apartment looks like (if you don't live in a new building)... and the rug on the wall is actually quite common
1:28 "Can I just ring everyone's doorbells? I know this isn't the apartment I need, but this is the apartment I want to annoy!" He's my spirit animal.
I'm so glad Sean played this game, it's one of the scariest games I've ever seen. Daz blacks playthrough of it was also good.
Daz played this? I'll check that out after this
@@justaguywhoplaysgames yeah, his reactions are hilarious 😂
@@quirkygirlboss They always are lmao

Sean sounded legitimately scared for his life, this game is awesome
God this is one of the scariest, grossest horror games I’ve seen in a while. The jump scares were great!
I didn’t really like the part outside the apartment, it kinda took me out of it. I really like horror games that stay in one place, that changes. It really gives your this feeling of “this place is haunted”, especially in a home, as home is supposed to be a safe space.
I love when you play horror games, you make it fun & ive always been trying to stop being a scaredy cat, it sort of makes me feel at home watching this
god I"ve seen this game played several times & yet it still gets me to repeatedly jump with its quiet scares of ppl just standing there, menacingly
Sean is probably one of the few and far between that would record a video of someone breaking into his house and then upload it
I see it
@@ZBlinkZ alright dude, i just subbed to you btw
And yeah. he'd def go all out with the editing too
@YeaMan whats up, you’re everywhere. this is like the fifth time I’ve seen you on my comments in like a week. would seriously appreciate it if you would stop, thanks
Wait what?
I don't jump often at games, but when that doll showed up when the light turned on.. legit screamed. Sean, you never disappoint! These indie horror games are incredible!! 👏👏
There is something special about this game. I'm pretty immune to most horror game antics, but this one sets off some weird primal fear in me and makes me SO on edge just watching it.
WAIT WAIT WAIT AT 25:24 THE WALL SAYS “I buried him in concrete” THERE WERE CEMENT BAGS OUTSIDE THE APARTMENT IN THE BEGINNING
this 100% got my heart racing. loved this one, probably one of my favorite thus far. props to them and props to sean for not being as scared as i was and progressed
This was the first video of Jack’s I’ve seen that genuinely startled me. @ 30:15 When he unlocked the cabinet in the closet, heard the baby, and turned around to that giant dude in his face. I legit screamed! 😂😂😂😂
Lookin' like the uncle everyone wants. We love you Jack. If I'm honest, I started getting worried; you hadn't posted in 5 days, I thought something happened to you
He was active on Twitter :)
@@MissManday oh
I don't have twitter lol
@@junebug08 now that's a true blessing. Definitely better without it
@@maxgoldpower you just don't need all that negativity from those kinds of platforms. all you need is things that make you feel good about life and yourself
