When this started out with the drum loop I was like "alright!", then the no-input mixing part without the drum loop came in and I started speaking German and opened a new age cult (or started a band. Let's go with that). I can't believe that the process of making a trippy, 70s atmospheric synth soundtrack sound is just right there at our fingertips. Really going to take the tips from this, thank you!

😂 I love this description! I think it's totally accurate. Enjoy both the sound and the new age cult!

This is really cool! Didn’t know you could do feedback stuff in logic. Thanks!

Fun stuff, huh? Happy to help!

Love the no-input angle, thanks for pointing it out. So many of the Logic stock plugins have “feedback” controls that can be exploited this way. Plus many of the filters can be pushed to self-oscillation-the manual mentions a few, I find PhatFX is great for this. Thanks!

How do you record the audio from the output of the loop? Do you have to route a separate bus with output to a new stereo channel to record onto? I was thinking of just using soundflower/blackhole to route into Max or Pure data to record the output but that seems needlessly complicated

You should be able to just bounce the audio like you normally would (though it might require a “realtime” bounce).

@@SimonHutchinson interesting, so you couldn’t just route that output of the feedback loop to a new stereo track and arm/record the output?? I’m not even sure how to do a real-time bounce, will that keep all of the automation and everything from the performance?

You could do that too! Real-time bounce will keep all automation too. In Logic it's in the "Bounce" window (after you go Command-B). There's a check-box for realtime.

i dont think this is feedback, this is just layering a signal with itself

Interesting thought. I'm not completely sure the distinction that you're making here, but the signal is *fed back* into the bus, and goes through all the processing again (as a loop). Check out at 5:17, when I remove the original track. At that point there's no input at all, and the only sounds are produced by feeding back.
