  • This video revolves mainly around the creation of a Shuttle Rig for MTB. Along the way we discuss lots of Yakima product including the newest top of the line upright bike rack, the HIGHROAD. We compare it to the FRONTLOADER, as well as the previous version, the HIGHROLLER. We also spend some time talking about the RACKANDROLL trailer itself. Next up are the SKYLINE TOWERS and JETSTREAM BARS, and we finish up with a brief look at LOCK CORES. I hope you enjoy it, learn something along the way, and that it helps you in your decision making process.

    Excellent video and detailed. I had factory crossbars on 2016 ford explorer and had same bow issue when bikes on top. Went with Yakima crossbars system for the VW Alltrack, Subaru WRX, and Honda CRV. The Yakima system offers the most stability and versatility. You have all the toys in that garage! Fantastic get out and play family man!

      Good stuff! Thx for watching and commenting. I totally agree that Yakima crossbars are so much more secure than factory. Not cheap but a worthwhile upgrade if you are hauling gear more than once or twice a year.

    awesome video all around. Just got a Rhino Rack roof rack system for my sedan with aero bars and got two Yakima Highroads for my bikes. The High road is pretty great due to its ease of installation, not contacting the bike's frame, tons of wheel size capability with zero adjustment, TorqueRight knob, and tool free. My qualms with them are that they are a tad heavy/large and that the SKS locks should come for free all ready installed for the price. Other than that they are very secure and a breeze to use

      @@kevinhill.8 Hello, can you please tell, if should be possible to mount Yakima Frontloader over Thule WingBar EVO roof bars in place where THULE 753 footer is? Can the Yakima front and rear clamp be tighten on that place? or not really? I have roof box in the middle so therefore I have place only from the both sides. thanks

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  5 лет назад

      @@spinergybiker2 The Yakima Frontloader does not have the option to mount in the slot of the Thule EVO. This means you will be mounting under the crossbar, and thus you cannot mount where the tower/footer is. To do so, you would need a bike rack (for example the High Road) that has the ability to adapt to T-Slot mounting with the use of this accessory: www.yakima.com/smartslot. Hope that helps!

    Hi there. Australia calling. Great review. Almost no one does this type of review over here.
    I am in the process of building a small shuttle trailer for 4 E-bikes.
    Could you tell me what the center to center distance between each rack is, that you used for the High Roads ? I was thinking around 300mm or 11" in your funny measurements.
    And what does the width of the actual base under the front wheel measure ?
    Thanks in advance.

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  2 года назад

      I don’t have the trailer set up that way (sold a few of the bike racks too), so I can’t help with your first question. As for the width of the front wheel tray, it’s about 9 3/8” (9.375”), which is like 23.8cm. Hope that helps. Good luck w your trailer setup!

    Bike tires are rarely the labeled width when on a rim and inflated. That being said I agree it is odd... you'd think they'd offer some buffer space in their specified recommendations

    I finally decided to gear up and bought a trail bike with the frontloader rack. I have only used it twice so far. Seeing through the sunroof my bike wobbling gives me anxiety every minute of the ride! Have you had any problem with any of these so far?

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  3 года назад

      Nice job getting yourself set up! I've noticed some wobbling too, but never had any issues. Are you attaching to factory crossbars or aftermarket bars? Our factory bars on our Subaru Outback would wobbled way more than the Yakima bars we have on their now.

      @@kevinhill.8 @ 11:35 thieves can easily cut the strap (made of thin stainless steel metal and rubber-coated) with those scissors that cut thin metal... Might want to get the T-Slot kit for it instead.

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  2 года назад

      @@HDMOVIECREATOR2012 got it. Yeah, the HighRoad straps could easily be cut with tin snips, you are right ab that. As with all the locks on Yakima and Thule racks and accessories, they are really more for “keeping honest people honest” than actually preventing a thief from being successful. Unfortunately, if someone wants your bike, or your rack, they can get it without too much trouble. 😤 We use a heavy chain lock for our bikes whenever we are leaving them unattended, and we run it around something solid, not just the rack.

      @@kevinhill.8 I'm thinking of using a kryptonite u lock and ran it around through the rear mount and the aero bar.

    Just purchased two highroad racks and by god they are simple to use! One question i have though for first use is about tyre inflation, is it beneficial to leave the tyre inflation a bit lower to grip on the bar better or just leave them pumped to say 30psi?

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  3 года назад

      Good question. It's true that lowering the tire pressure can help them be more secure, but I wouldn't bother unless you are doing some long distance traveling.

    • @billybass4189
      @billybass4189 3 года назад

      @@kevinhill.8 thanks for that, i did indeed leave the pressure up but it was a fairly long journey of 75 miles but all was well. I will admit to using an extra strap rd the rear wheels to be sure and to avoid shocking the plastic toothed straps too much.

    Did you ever try the t-slot configuration, versus the straps? (video on that?)

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the question. I have yet to use the T-slot adapters. I had originally hoped they were going to make it really easy to get the rack on and off (push down, turn 1/4 turn, and they pop out of slot), but instead you have to thread the wing nut onto each t-bolt, making them more time consuming than the straps. I think the only time I would use them would be if I needed the rack to sit right above a tower where the strap won't work. Hope that helps.

    Hey, I am curious if you have any experience with the Yakima Raptor?

    • @kevinhill.8
      @kevinhill.8  5 лет назад

      Thanks for the question Joe. I have never used the Raptor myself, but I have put bikes on and off of it where I work. The Raptor can save you a little money vs the Frontloader ($34 more) or the Highroad ($74 more), but I prefer to not touch my bike's frame, so I would personally stay away from the Raptor. If, however, you have a full front fender on the bike, then the Raptor makes more sense because the other two need to grab the front wheel. That said, my commuter has a front rack and a (short) front fender, and it works fine with the Frontloader and Highroad. Hope that helps!
