Great short little video explaining/showing us what you experienced. Glad you posted this as I am planning on getting this camera for my Wedding Videography! Looking forward to your low light tests as well. Thanks!
OK, that is great news. There is a Facebook HC-X1000 Page and a poster there explained that he thought the HDMI out only worked in "Playback" mode. This would be a no go for me. I need an external monitor and to monitor the recording in "Camera" mode etc. Thanks for the great responses here!
Excellent! After 12 years, I am getting back in to the Video Business, and boy, have things changed! I was looking at the AJA CION 4K at $5,000, but, by the time you add all the accessories, I would end up spending about $15,000 (Ouch) I was also looking at a JVC unit at $1,600, but, its Low Light is terrible. I believe I am going to buy one of these cameras based on your amazing reviews! I've seen a lot of reviews and you have the best! Also, like you, I want to get a total of 3 of them! Thanks, Mike
Hi Gary, Actually, you are right about the low light thing... I will be using these to video RUclips Contests with great lighting, but, also for short productions that will go straight to video. Low light is extremely important! I will check out the camera you just mentioned. Thanks, Mike
Hi there, I'm wondering if you could give me some advice on the audio on this camera? I am using a Sony digital wireless lapel and when plugged in to the camera I get that constant hiss that I can't figure out how to get rid of. Thanks in advance.
Hello Gary I have watched your review of the Panasonic HC X1000 4K camcorder, and I must say I am very impressed with what you say, and how you say it. I suspect you are also a very busy man, so I will keep my questions to an absolute minimum, but please let me give you a little background.I travel the world chasing steam locomotives and the places to go have all but disappeared so I have a timeframe problem! I tried video with my Canon 650D (1920 X1080 i 25FPS) but found quality and frame rate problems gave not as good a picture as I wished for, so bought a JVC PX 100 and now shoot at 1920 x 1080 p 50 fps. The results are a vast improvement but having now seen some 4K footage I really want to upgrade to 4k and have bought a LG 49UB820 4K TV.I only shoot outdoors in good light and my editing is restricted to cut/paste/transitions and a very sparing use of brightness/contrast/colour saturation etc. but I would like to process entirely in 4k so that the picture on the TV is as good as possible. I have a Windows 7 64 bit based system (Core i7 3.4 Ghz +16 gig of ram + NVidia GT 640 card} and use Cyberlink Ultra 13 Video Director. So, sir Does the Panasonic HC 1000 sound like it might be a good choice for my needs? I really can’t afford much more than around £2000 so is this probably a ” best buy” for me? I am a little confused about references to “editing 4K on an HD timeline”. Can I edit in 4K from capture to screen? I am totally confused about “colour sampling” I have no idea what the JVC shoots in, but will the Panasonic be better? Any thoughts about the microphone/sound quality? As your ears are probably closer to the ground than mine, I wonder if you know of anything in the pipeline that might fit the bill? I know this is a big, big ask, but I would be very grateful on any feedback you can give Thank you so much John Parker
+Ivan Ćosić Hi Ivan I had it a while now and it's a great camera. With plenty of light the picture is VERY impressive! I also have the DVX200 and in good light both cameras give excellent results. Of course the DVX200 performs a little better in low light due to it's larger chip. I haven't done any greenscreen with either camera yet as I use them more for theatre shows, but i would imagine they would perform very well with such a high bitrate!
Excellent video review. I bought this camera shortly after watching your review and I use Final Cut Pro X for editing. But I have some video quality issues. On camera pans and moves the video almost seems to pixelate. Have you encountered that issue? Do you use any kind of video conversion software to before importing to FCPX?
+Den Woltering Not had any issues like that. I tend to use proxy files for editing though so that it's just like editing HD video. I also edit on a HD timeline so i can use the crop function without loosing detail. Do you film in .mov? I do as this should play in FCPX better than mp4 or the lower quality AVC. I just received the DVX200 yesterday so will be using this as well as the X1000 this weekend for a couple of jobs. Gary
+DanceShowFilming Thanks for that response. I will try shooting in .mov and import proxy files. That might be the solution. I looked at my video on my TV and it looks way better. Thanks again.
I'm looking for an indie film camera so would you please elaborate on why you say it's not for indie films? One of the things that attracted me to this camera is that you could shoot at 24p, which I thought might be better than shooting at 50p and cutting it in half in post to get a more cinematic look. You're saying a DSLR would be better for indie films than this? Please enlighten me!
Hi Wanwosan Perhaps I was a little hasty in my assumption as to whether this is good for Indie films as you would have total control of the lighting, and should be able to get a great picture. However, I feel that you wont get that great cinematic feel from a camera like this. There is a little bokeh on the zoom but its just not the same as a lowlight fixed focus lens. The picture is very clean, "video clean" and lacks that cinema lustre perhaps? I only use 50P though so perhaps not my place to assume what 24P will look like? The 24P setting is actually 4096 x 2160p / 24 fps (100 Mbps) which is true 4K, if this is what you want? If it's any interest to you, I'll be making a video on how this camera handles about March time, as I'm busy with shows through FEB! If you get a X1000 let me know how you get on for indie films? Sounds interesting. All the best Gary
DanceShowFilming Yes, I'd be interested to see what its 24p looks like both at 4K and 1080. I also see it has two recording modes in 4:3. Take a quick gander at those too in your next video, please!
Here is a link to a video i made with the HC-X1000. Filmed in 4K at 50p and edited on a HD timeline in FCPX. There are some cropped shots in it. All filmed under artificial light, but all rooms were decently lit by fluorescents. ruclips.net/video/rDPMQ76klEo/видео.html
Thanks alot for the good job....but I still like the panasonic hd 151.with the video qualities....how do I go for this camera, cause is my first time to see that on your desk as you explain the hc-x1000...be happy if u return my answer...thanks..
Personally I prefer the Panasonic DVX200 as it has a larger chip and so better in low light than the HC-X1000. I just use the HC-X1000 on the edge of the stage on wide angle for a decent picture, but filmed from the back it can be too dark. See this review... ruclips.net/video/AjfC-OHAt-E/видео.html
DanceShowFilming - very nice review!! I'm seriously looking into upgrading my Sony 1080p handycam to a decent 4K camera, in particular one that has easy manual controls like the Panasonic you've just reviews, as well as the Sony equivalent (FDR-AX1). I'm trying to decide which way to go - Sony or Panasonic now, or even to go for the Sony FDR-AX100. What I don't like about the AX100 is it's ability to easily access manual controls (as well as filming in 60p which is what I'd prefer in 4K). The low light quality of the AX100 seems better than the Panasonic HC-X1000 to be honest, but it does have a 1" sensor, which may explain this? I'd be very interested in your low light tests!!
Hello sir. i am doing wildlife videography in DSLR nikon D500 nikon lens 200-500MM F5.6. now want to move in video camera want to buy panasonic hc-x1000 4k video camera i am doing only wildlife videography so what you suggest me. should i buy this camera?
I'm really looking forward to this next video! We have been having this, "it's good, it's bad, it's ok" conversation on "DVXuser" for a while now. www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?328028-New-Panasonic-4K-60P-Camcorder-HC-X1000 In a lot of cases it seems like people make videos to intentionally discredit it. I'm having so much trouble deciding because most of my videoing will be of "unpredictable" animal behavior, in "unpredictable" weather. I can't tell the clouds to only make it this dark if they want to block the sun. Or a horse without a rider to only walk off in that direction (don't break into a trot or gallop), an animal is unpredictable. But I'm not made of money, I can't afford a $7000+ camera :( Life would have been easier if they stayed 3CCD (no jello effect), but they didn't!
I should have it finished later today (27th Jan) or early tomorrow morning. I filmed a Panto show rehearsal with it, with lots of different light levels and I had it standing against a 151. The results are startling!
Personally I prefer the CMOS chip to CCD in that its a much more cinematic feel to the picture. Its much less electronic, but the downside is the jello effect etc you get from CMOS. I'll make a video on handling the X!000 later that will have this test in it, as well as the cameras many features such as focus assist, ND filters, attaching monitors and mics etc.

Yes the low light filming is a real mixed bag with this camera, more coming!
Also, do you know if the HDMI out will work with an external monitor in "camera" mode and/or for recording/shooting video?
Scott Owens Hi Scott. I've had an external monitor on the camera via HTML and did a few shots with it.
OK, that is great news. There is a Facebook HC-X1000 Page and a poster there explained that he thought the HDMI out only worked in "Playback" mode. This would be a no go for me. I need an external monitor and to monitor the recording in "Camera" mode etc. Thanks for the great responses here!
DanceShowFilming I'm hoping the low light tests have demonstrated more positive results than negative?
