This is a great review! Epic stuff! thanks
Very good review. Your pointing out that the F-stop is not constant was a real deal breaker for me. Dynamic range is another issue. Not stable enough in variable light.
I haven't heard from you for a long time. I think you have covered the salient points here. I think that I would agree with everything you said even though I have never operated this camera. Because i shoot a lot of live theatre, concerts and dance recitals, I decided to go for the Panasonic HPX 250. Ok, it doesn't do 4K but I'm pretty pleased with it. I think that a lot of people fail to recognize the value of a fixed zoom like this. I also have the Panasonic AF100 with the 12-35 mm f2.8 and the 35-100 mm f2.8. My wide shots are covered by a Panasonic GH3 with the Olympus 12-40 mm f2.8. All three record to Atomos recorders. Gerry in Calgary.
After using a VX1 camera ($700 AUD) for 2 years and now upgrading to this camera due to a product end of life discount ($2250 AUD), I can say the low light is still at least 10 times better than the VX1. Sure the latest with the 1 inch sensor ($3700) is going to blow this camera out of the water, but this camera today has become an epic mid range camera that is still better than other mid priced cameras with smaller sensors.
Thank you for this very detailed and thoughtful review. This is almost as good as actually having a demo model in my hands. Great reference footage. (*Small detail for people watching this, the recording speed of this camera is measured in Mbps, IE megaBITS, not megaBYTES. So if 200 "megs" per second sounds fast, that's because it's actually moving at 25 "megs" per second.)
Thank you for the Great Review! Do you think That It still Worth in 2019 (almost 2020) for street jornalism Day light and indoor Events with Good artificial light? A bit of advice about your issues with skin tone and the zoom. Don't neglect color grading as a step in your editing process. It's best to shoot in a flat color setting and then color grade to get those custom gamma settings. Thanks for your review though. I'm about to replace the HVX200 you see in my pic.
