- Buy the Panasonic X1000 here: amzn.to/2DUuxx2
Extra battery: amzn.to/2XObQ55
What I like:
*well balanced in hand
*20x zoom lens - 30-600mm - 49mm front lens ring
*Excellent image stabilization. Uses Power O.I.S. in 4K, 5-axis hybrid O.I.S. in HD mode
*Full of manual controls on body
*Built in ND filters - 1/4, 1/16, 1/64
*Can use Panasonic/Varizoom controllers
*Great battery life
*Touch focus on LCD screen
*Tons of codecs and frame rates - Cinema 4K/24p, 4K ultra 60/30/24p - 100Mbps - 150Mbps in MP4 mode, 1080/60p at 200Mbps ALL-i in MOV
*Adjustable cine-like settings - same as Panasonic pro line - Detail Level, Chroma, Gamma, Knee, etc. - Cine-Like D and Cine-like V presets!
*No 4k cropping
*NTSC/PAL switchable - world camera
*Timelapse mode
*IR mode
What I don’t like:
* Uses two built-in Venus processing engines to scale the 4K image down to HD, but I think that causes fan noise. This camera is kind of loud.
* Small sensor 1/2.3” MOS - not good in low light
* Not good in low light. Lens is f/1.8 - f/3.6
* LCD is bulky
* Touch screen, not as responsive
* Physical menu dials not responsive
* EVF is not clear, really small
* No 1/4 20 mounts.
* Lens cap is practically permanent
* Focus, Zoom, Iris are electronically controlled, so there is a delay in operation
* No 3.5mm mic jack?
* Odd choices for codecs and frame rates - AVCHD only 1080/720/60p,1080/60i from 8Mbps - 28Mbps
Strange features:
*Blue ring light around body, turns red while recording
*NFC to connect camera via Panasonic Image App to tablet or smart phone, but iPhone doesn’t support open NFC. Android.

The delay on the control rings is not so laggy that it is a problem when adjusting on-the-fly. I was coming from a consumer model HCV-770K that used a "multi-manual" dial for all manual settings, so having three rings is a huge improvement for manual shooting compared to the V-770. You complain about the lack of a 3.5mm microphone jack. I prefer pro audio features. I have a large assortment of microphones, including condensers, so I consider the locking XLR with optional phantom power a feature, not a drawback. If I am using a 3.5mm microphone, then I have a Rode mini jack to XLR adapter in my camera bag. If I need a 1/4" or RCA inputs, I have adapters for those as well. XLR is by far the best, so I'm glad that it is the native audio input on this camera. Also, it should be mentioned that the phantom power / mic level / line level on each input can be controlled independently, and each input can be routed to either L/R channel or both, or you can switch to the built in microphone. You talk about the poor low light performance due to the smaller sensor, but the gain on this camera is better than some others I've used, so it partially makes up for this.
Side by side video of both, seeing at the same time offers the best visual review
"i can't find a 3.5mm mic jack"
XLR > 3.5mm
Yes. XLR with phantom power is the best. Want 3.5mm? Get an adapter.
you can get a fairly good adpter for less than ten dollars. its not a real problem at all hahahah
@@joaomanuelveloso2 If you need an adapter with plug-in power for 3.5mm mics, you'll need a more expensive adapter that converts phantom power to 3.5mm, so it's more than $10. But yes, it's not a real problem. It's just annoying.
@@VideoGizmology i just bought a boya adpter that work wonders. it costed around 60 Brazilian reais, its around 10 dollars.
Smaller sensor doesn't mean less light. The lens captures the light. A bigger sensor does need a bigger lens capable of shining light over a larger surface that could mean it is a faster lens as well.
True. Lens is a determining factor of low light, however in 2018, if you put a 50mm full frame lens on a full frame sensor camera and then put that same exact lens on a super 16 sized sensor camera, the full frame sensor will be better in low light, therefore, my point is the larger the sensor, typically, but not always, will give you better low light capabilities. If you have examples that contradict that idea, I'm curious to learn from it.
You have to purchase an adapter for your 3.5 mic---which I did with my AG-AC90! My Rodes mics work just fine.
I would much rather have XLR inputs than one for a 3.5 minijack
You're wondering why it uses a small sensor. Well, the reason is that it wouldn't be possible to put a 20x lens of this size to a larger sensor. Bigger sensor means bigger and much more expensive optics. This is a ENG-type camera. It cannot compare to a DSLR, different purposes.
Not necessarily true. The Panasonic AG-UX180 has a 20x optical zoom lens and a 1" sensor.
This panasonic is larger than the HC-X1000. And 1" sensor is also considered small sensor compared to Super-35 or Full Frame. Bigger sensor = Bigger lens, that's it.
Thanks for the overview! How does the footage from the Panasonic HC X1000 compare to similar priced camcorders such as Sony and JVC? From what I can tell it seems that Panasonic is not near as sharp. I'm in the market and really want to like this and the new DVX200 but I am just not seeing the image quality... Any thoughts?
Cheers,
Greg
+Greg Allen As far as image quality goes, when shooting 4K and editing in 1080, the image is sharper than an HD Sony or JVC camcorder in the same price range. However, the 4K from a GH4 or even an FZ1000 bridge camera is noticeably sharper than the 4K from the X1000 due to the smaller sensor. The biggest downfall with the X1000 is the absolutely terrible low light capabilities. I rate this camera at an ISO of 200 and once you start adding gain, your blacks turn to green mush and the digital noise is unbearable. If you shoot outdoor daylight or in well lit studios, this is a great bang for buck. If you shoot in uncontrollable situations, a GH4 is a better camera or go up to a DVX200.
+Video Gizmology but zooming during videos and video stabilization in a GH4 just sucks. I have a GX8 which is great at pictures but I am SO disappointed from the videos.
+Video Gizmology in the video you said "the camera has NFC but iPhone has not NFC capabilities..." but the camera does has WiFi so you can use the Panasonic Image App on iPhone/iPad with the HC-X1000! :)
XLR adapter to 3.5mm socket, not ideal but still a workaround.
Great review thanks for the advice
I try to find night vision mode. But i can't acces it. I try to set it up on manual mode and automatic mode. I watch a lot to the manual. But nothing. If you still have the camera please can you do a video with a tutorial how to set up the functions.
Sweet review. Does this camera have the capability to creat flat profiles like you can with the gh4 and other Panasonic cameras? Like adjust the black levels, gamma and whatnot?
+Ian Grogan Yes, you can adjust most of the same settings as you can on the prosumer Panasonic cameras, such as the AC-130 and AC-90 series. It does not have V-Log, but has Cine-D and Cine-V profiles.
Rode sells the adapters by the way.
Yeah the camera lacking a 3.5mm mic jack is going to be a problem for me.
The specs do not list a 3.5mm mic jack. The new AG-DVX200 has one though. I guess Panasonic learned something...
Comparing with sony Nx80 n Z150, Panasonic Ux 180 which is best in low light and video quality
What are the primary differences in this camera and the UX180? This camera is on sale for about $1,000 and the UX180 is about $2500 right now. I don’t want to waste money on a camera that is only slighter better than this one. Would you recommend this or the UX180?
They are very different cameras. Nearly everything about them is different, but at the of the day, if money is your greatest concern, get the cheaper one.
The UX180 has a better zoom lens, better and larger sensor, better in low light, has SDI and Timecode out ports, it's a larger body, better codecs, better image quality.... I could go on.
Video Gizmology thanks for the reply. I plan on filming football games with this camera from the sidelines. i need a camera soon and will probably get the X1000. At the end of the day, would you recommend this camera?
And what do think. Cool or not? I need a good camera for my RUclips Channel and Online Courses. Do you have a cam tip for me?
You have a lot of options for RUclips and Online video camera.
Low budget HD: Canon HF G30/G40: ruclips.net/video/L7sBeV_Fom0/видео.html
High Budget HD: Canon C100 Mark II with 10-18mm, and 24-105mm lenses.
4K: Canon GX10: ruclips.net/video/O4YLdNjCnFY/видео.html
Panasonic AG-UX180: ruclips.net/video/xcyMDGZ68Go/видео.html
Sony NX80
You could also use mirrorless cameras like the Panasonic G85, GH5, Sony z6300, but they come with plenty of issues.
Remember that the camera really doesn't matter. Make sure it has a wide lens, 28mm or wider, microphone inputs and headphone jack. Good autofocus. Besides that, your audio and lighting are more important. Spend extra money on audio and lighting and less money on the camera.
I am trying to decide on buying this camera or not. I shoot a lot of weddings on a Nikon d 5300 usually with a 24-70 mm lens or 50 mm, both at f 1.8. I'm still learning about more professional grade cameras, would this impact my videos in a good significant way? if not could you or anyone recommend a camera i should look at? I really want a sony camera, but they are out of my budget zone.
+Cory Venable For weddings, I do not recommend a Panasonic X1000. Best cameras for weddings under $3K are the Panasonic GH4, Canon C100 with dual pixel upgrade, Panasonic AF100A, Canon XF200, Canon XA30, or pay slightly more for a Canon C100 Mark II.
+Video Gizmology thanks! That's what I needed to know. I'll do my research on the cameras you have listed
Could you transport videos from the camera to iPhone?
I have a question regarding the sound. how could you hear the video you are recording? do you have to get an adapter? and what kind of adapter do I need ?
Also can you connect wireless to it using Bluetooth
There is a headphone jack to monitor your audio on the camera. No adapter needed.
is this camera available worldwide?
How useful is this for shooting drama? My worry is the infinity focus it seems to have. Is there depth of field with this camera or not? Worried this will look no better than my handicam if there's no real ability to shift what is and isn't in focus.
This is not good for narrative drama. It looks too much like video and not cinema. Of course, a good drama is more about the writing, acting, and directing than it is the camera, but this model won't help. Stick with digital cinema cameras or larger camera sensors with interchangeable lenses.
at $2,497.99 on amazon this camera better be awesome.
It's not that great anymore. Don't buy this now.
Panasonic released updated versions of this camera and other 4K cameras. If you want Panasonic, you now can get the AG-UX90, HC-X1, or AG-UX180. The only camcorder I personally own now is a Canon XF200 and I love it: ruclips.net/video/rcJYle2tWtc/видео.html
@@VideoGizmology I am very newbie but want to start making videos. Which updated verision of this camera are you talking about? Panasonic HC-X1000EE?
Is there any sense to buy it now in 2020 for about $1500 ? For the purpose of making short-films for youtube.
Or maybe you can advice something better for that price? thank you!
@@unregistereduser4874 This camera is still a highly recommended camera for documentary work--and probably short films too. Not sure why he recommends the Canon XF200 when it doesn't even shoot 4K, but to each their own I guess...
Hello sir please help me sir
Sir mujhe HCX1000 4k camera reset krna hai toh kaise kare sir
cool cam
Mines just arrived and My LCD screen doesn't light up. Glowing a dull grey but no menu or picture. Am I missing something? My eye piece works fine.
Not sure if the LCD lights up or not, the body ring is the thing that's supposed to light up. If you don't see that blue ring, there is a menu setting that turns it on or off.
I like to buy x1000 Is it a good camcorder
is it possible to buy a converter on front of the lens? Plaese give me the number and website. Thanks
What is the iso db setting to use for filming to get the film look using that camera ?
I don't own this camera anymore, but I used to stay at 0dBs of gain at all times. I think it's safe until around 6dBs, then it gets really noisy.
I see okay I just bought the Panasonic HC-X2 it is a good camera beautiful picture what I notice with Pentatonic it need a lot of light for it to work and if you go above 20 db the picture fall apart
Nice camera 4k
can you tell how to stabillized the Frame ?
hey, nice review yo! I was wondering if this camera could record while being charged at the same time? And how do you mount an XLR cable to the camera if their is no mount would you have to buy separately?
o nvm on the last part about the mount i think i see where you mount an xlr cable now
I beleive it is limited to XLR ports not 3.5 mm
How to reset that camera
How big is the raw file recording size? What size SD should I use, do you think?
If recording 4k/30p, it's 100Mbps - so a 64GB card will give you a little over an hour of footage. I typically film long events, so I get 256GB cards. If you shoot documentaries or anything long form, a 256GB is a good size. If you only film short content, then a 128GB card is great.
Video Gizmology My card is 128GB, but I'm planning to shoot at 4k/60p - I don't think I'll make much use of C4K - so I'm not sure it'll be enough for anything big. But hey, there's two card slots, so it shouldn't be a problem.
How to... background blurry?
make sure your lighting is bright enough, zoom in the camera to a telephoto focal length, open the iris as wide as possible at that zoom length, use ND filter if necessary, put your subject at a distance from the background -- those are techniques to make the background blurry
budget?
lovely review if only it had at least 30x
how to stabilzed the frame
Wide angle for this camera?
Panasonic HC-X1000
Can youvtake pictures with this

Very nice
i want buy this camera so pls tell me its better to shoot wedding event?
If the wedding is outdoors, this is a decent camera and will do well when there is a lot of light. But this is not the camera for low light shooting. For low light, get a Panasonic GH5S or GH4 with speedbooster. Or Canon C100 Mark II or C200. Or any Sony camera does better in low light than Panasonic.
Can you take pictures with this
The best mics are xlr. just face it. Who buys a $2500.- camera and yet is too poor to buy something like Sennheiser ME66? You're not going to use a 30 dollar thing anymore dude. Probably with this camera, you are going to use handheld mics for sound guys and reporters.
Damn! The fan really is loud!
@ it,s good camera
Now then where is the shotgun mic holder?
The mic holder goes next to the XLR ports, but I removed it for this video. If you buy this camera, it comes with a mic holder.
can it pause while your recording so you can switch to another shot then resume
+Will Fribourg It cannot pause the recording, but you can just start and stop recording.
*****
No. Red cameras are completely different than this one.You need to spend upwards of $6k to start competing with Red.
Can I add an Atomos Ninja to this?
yes
How much is in dollars
So is this a good camara... It's for semi professionel video ?
If you do a lot of outdoor daylight filming, then yes. If you shoot both interior and exterior and need a good low light camera, then this is not a good choice. A Panasonic GH4 is a great bargain right now. A JVC LS300 is excellent for cinema quality shots. A Panasonic FZ2500 looks like a good travel camera (I just ordered one). I love my Canon XF200 for documentaries and event shooting, albeit no 4K. Panasonic HC-X1 is the replacement for the X1000 - wait for that one.
What about Panasonic hc xe1
I just orded a Panasonic hc x1 (: it looks Nice (:
I'm looking at the hc x1 also, do you like it?
Is it good for wedding and events?
As long as the event is daylight and outdoors, this is a great camera. Anything that requires low light shooting is not recommended. This camera is terrible in low light. Lots of grain. Hard to focus.
I want To put a fish eye lens on it, what size
The thread needs to fit a 49mm ring.
how to connect it to pc for live streaming?
You'll need an HDMI video capture device. Check out the Elgato Cam Link 4K.
@@VideoGizmology I had a panasonic cam recorder. How can I connect it to pc for live streaming?
I just used this camera in 4k at 50fs and cinema 4K and the footage on my 4k tv doesn’t look any better whatsoever than test footage i just shit on my £199 Panasonic just HD camera. No real difference in quality. Very disappointed. Any ideas anyone? .
Can you send me 4k 60 fps rew file form camera? hello :)
prz
I unfortunately do not have this camera anymore.
There is no 3.5 mm mic jack
+WupperVideo I want one
+Ian Cruickshank Thanks for suggesting an adaptor. I'm in a part of Asia where accessories have to be ordered from overseas. Regards.
well that is stupid u can buy an adapter
Screen réversible for facecam ?

Ultimate 4K video recorder for concerts?
The ultimate 4K video camcorder in 2018 would be the Panasonic UX180, Sony Z190/Z280, a Canon C200 with 70-200mm compact-servo cine zoom lens, or Canon XF705. The Canon XF705 hasn't been released yet, but the specs are perfect for concerts. The X1000 is no longer a good option because it is inferior in low light.
@@VideoGizmology Hey I have a question. I am looking for a camcorder but I am looking for an older model. I want something that has a balance between specs and features with price and reliability. Basically what I am trying to say is, I'm trying to find older models that can still be used today because of price. What would you recommend?
@@VideoGizmology Some people told me to just spend the extra money and get the latest models others mentioned that I can still find cameras and save some money/spend it on other things like lighting for example because they said that's what would make the difference. What's your input?
Canon XF200/205, Canon XF300/305, Canon C100 with dual pixel, Panasonic GH4, Canon XA30, Sony Z7U.
My current preference is to buy the newest and best camera I can afford at the time that makes sense for the kind of productions I do. Cameras, like computers, have a short shelf life. Unless you spend over $5k for a camera, don't expect it to last you very long.
Does that mean when shooting in 4K, the stabilisation is inferior to when shooting in normal HD?
Yes, but I don't think you'll really notice unless you are zoomed all the way in and running while shooting handheld, which is a scenario you should never be in.
Yes, but its wont be as smooth ... I want to shoot a low-budget movie hand held and do lots of hand-held tracking ...
Hii
Did you get written permission to film the birds cuz you know how these days birds will sue your ass quick if they don't want to be filmed. lol
